It is a great book which got me home on my bicycle safely., 24 Jan 2001
It tells everything you need to know on how to fix your bike while out on a ride, if you get a puncture, bent spokes or so on. It also tells u what tips to use on your job. It isn't too big so you can take it with you in a bag.

The only book you need to maintain a modern road bike. Covers everything in an easy to understand way, but does lack pictures of procedures if thats what you want.

I don't agree with all the positive reviews here. The layout is a bit confusing at times and deraillier problems are not covered well enough.
When it's good, it's very very good., 03 Jul 2005
... but when it's bad, it's useless. Among other things, Zinn assumes that everybody today has STI - integrated brake-levers/gear-shifters - at their fingertips. His diagrams and instructions on these are, in their clarity and completeness, exemplary. But if you don't have STIs, perhaps because you have a slightly older bike, he doesn't have much to say to you at all. Likewise, the roadbike user with cantilever brakes will find little beyond advice to turn to the relevant section of "Zinn and the Art of Mountain Bike Maintenance" (that's another £12.35 on Amazon.co.uk). Still, it's a useful supplement to my very old edition of Richard's Bicycle Book.
They're all true!, 08 Mar 2004
In common with most of the other reviewers, I'm finding this book an excellent reference and good general read (although my wife does find it strange that I've started reading this book in bed from time to time!).
Whether it's just knowing the names of the different parts (OK, it's been a long time since I last rode a bike) to performing regular maintenance on the bike, it's all in this book. Plenty of diagrams, too.
Brilliant - won't need any other book, 15 Jun 2002
After searching through Amazon for a decent book on how to look after my beloved road bicycle I finally settled on Zinn and am glad to say that I am delighted with this book. It covers pretty much everything, from basic emergency repairs to complex workshop stuff. Great layout, lots of diagrams and a sense of humour. If you're getting serious about your cycling and want to know how look after and repair your bike this is great. Also has calculations for things like frame sizes and an excellent trouble-shooting table. I love it!
