Great book, but terrible online content, 10 Sep 2008
I ordered this book as part of my Masters in Business Administration course. The book is neatly structured, mainly separating subjects in three main parts: Strategic Positioning, Strategic Choices and Strategy in Action.
I also found the case studies presented in this book to be of great help when studying for the Business Environment module of my MBA. A matrix table presents a guide for each case study in the book and what are their main focus. For example, if you want a case study that focus on Porter's five forces, then read the TUI case study on page 619, and so on.
The book also comes with an "student access kit" to access further content online, and claims that users would have access to more than 30 "classic case studies" within the companion website.
The book is good but I must say the so called online content is a joke. You can only find the case studies that came with the book, and there are no further "classic case studies" to be found. I was particularly interested on a given business case which is mentioned in the book as available in the companion website for my dissertation, and I can't help but to feel cheated about it.
I emailed support asking for advice but I never got an answer, and I tried to call Pearson's support line but I have never received a call back or a proper answer to my query.
The experience I had with Pearson's student access kit was terrible that comes with this book, and I would warn anyone who is thinking to buy one of their books or a standalone student access kit to stay away from them.

Management and Organisational Behaviour ..., 19 Mar 2008
This is an outstanding book to have in any executive library. It covers so much more than most other books, and I'd go so much as to say it is a must have / read for anyone studying management, or is on an MBA program, or is going into an executive post.
Well writen, covers topics clear and succinctly.
Money well spent.

Indispensable, 09 May 2008
Have had every edition and I still carry a copy in my bag. Anyone doing acute takes who thinks they don't need to reflect on some aspects of some cases will come to grief. I am reassured when I see junior docs carrying a well worn copy.
Brilliant , 05 Feb 2008
This new book is even better than the 6th edition as its tiny! Meaning it's even easier to put in your bag/pocket and delve into on ward rounds/acute takes when your unsure of diagnosis/what to do next!
possible, THE best medical book out there...of all time, 02 Jan 2008
Guys, and gals, this book doesn't even need an introduction. Being only a 2nd year medic, I thought I'd get this now for later usuage, but it really has helped me out so much already. From the handy revision of essential anatomy and physiology for key conditions, to the layout, including advice on OSCEs, emergencies and much more, this book truly is a life saver, and should be given to every 1st year medical student, as it will benefit them for the rest of their career. What are you waiting for, buy it now, and lap it up!! Invaluable!!
Must have for med students!!, 30 Dec 2007
This book covers all areas of internal medicine and surgery in a clear concise way and whats more is that its easy to carry around when your on the wards. This book covers everything from aetiology, epidemiology, clinical features through to the necessary investigations and management of varying conditions. I dont actually know a medical student who doesn't own it!
Perfect for medical students for several reasons:
- Easy to carry
- Includes medical pneumonics (they make its so much easier to remember)
- concise - makes a great revision tool to test your clinical partner
- covers such a broad spectrum of topics
- the radiographs, CT images, MRI section is definately worth a read!!
- it contains evidence-based medicine with easy links to websites
...could it be any better??
The best ever, a must have, 28 Jul 2007
This 7th edition of OHCM, while retaining the much loved concise and essence of the previous editions has been greatly revised, improved and updated. It contains a new chapter on radiology, new information on how to handle common calls and a wider coverage of medications and doses, clinical skills and surgery. The best feature has to be the integrated colour illustrations with pictures and cartoons; and tons of radiographs, CT images, MR1 images etc. The layout is very reader friendly. This is an invaluable study aid for plab and all medical exams. It also has a PDA version, and web links from the book for instant access to evidence based clinical information. This is a must have and if you have a previous edition it is worth the upgrade.

Great for distance learning M.Sc. project, 19 Jul 2007
I'm doing an M.Sc. in Operational Research by distance learning. I didn't have much of a clue about how to go about organising the research for my dissertation, and this book (out of all that I've bought) has been the best, providing a clear workflow from start to finish. Some really helpful references too.
The best just got better..., 30 Aug 2006
Having used the previous edition for a number of years in postgraduate study, I really didn't think it could be bettered. The great news is it has!
This new edition is a 'must-buy' book for any business student, whether they be undergraduate or postgraduate. Actually, it seems a shame to restrict the recommendation to business students, as most students of the social sciences would find it useful.
What's added enormously to this edition is the inclusion of loads more explanatory diagrams and computer screen-shots. Additionally, there are plenty of step by step examples of the application of theory. I've struggled with statistics despite reading numerous books and playing with very clever software. This book however has sorted me out. It's worth the money for that single chapter alone.
I know many of us students are hard up... but buy it! It's great to have around, rather than hoping the library has it!
An excellent introduction to research methods, 10 Dec 2003
I have used this book as a class text for a number of years (using both this and the previous edition); it is an excellent introduction to the subject. The organisation of the book is a particular strength, making it ideal for self study also.
Excellent book, 17 Aug 2003
The book is extremely helpful in creating a strong base for a research (Dissertation in my case). Reading the book and following the structure presented throughout book provides a certain level of confidence to deal with the research. The language is quite easy to follow and the book also contains some very useful examples.
An Excellent Help, 12 Jul 2003
I've used this book at University now for three years. It's been of invaluable help in all my projects and has allowed me to achieve a good grade in my dissertation. The book is thorough, easy to grasp because of its logical structure. I'm recommending this book to all my friends regardless of whether they're business student's or not.

Excellent book for level 2 both 6129 and 6089, 05 Sep 2008
Here at PPL Training in York we used to use the old JTL Level 2 plumbing book for our City & Guilds NVQ level 2 courses. This lastest book combines both the NVQ side and the tech cert (6129) side, which is a good step forward as BOTH qualifications must be taken to gain a NVQ 2 in Plumbing.
The book is clearly laid out with individual chapters on the course structure. Errors from the previous versions have been corrected and along with clear colour diagrams makes this book suitable for both young and old alike. We at PPL train a mixture of age groups and find this book a very valuable reference and learning resource.
IF you are training to be a plumber either at a private college like PPL or a local FE college this is one of the books you MUST buy - excellent.

I'm recommending this book to all my friends regardless of whether they're business student's or not.
childrens care learning and development level 3, 22 Aug 2008
i have just completed my nvq level 3 with the help of this book, it is brilliant and helped me with evrything i needed to know and is insightful into the world of childrens care and help me understand it more easily. the book is broken down into the core mandotory units you are required to coomplete and optional units. it is like the bible if you are doin the course and is well worth having.
Primary English book review, 24 Feb 2003
This book is particularly useful for those doing any teaching degree, but particularly for those who are doing the Ba ed primary teaching with QTS. This book has a range of information on giving knowledge and understanding to those who wish to find out about all the different components of teaching primary English. Such topics that are covered include spellings, early writing, shared writing of fiction and non fiction and aspects of reading, listening and speaking and grammar. This will help any teaching student in their assignments on the teaching of English to primary schools. It also provides comprehensive background information for those who are not aware of all of the aspects of teaching primary English. Soooooo it's definitely worth buuying to get your top marks in your english assignment and to acheive good teaching in schools!

This book is a must have for all medical students entering their clinical years. Read it early! I only discovered the gems contained within this book when my OSCE's were approaching as it had been collecting dust on the shelf and I was kicking myself that I hadn't read it earlier. Plenty of pictures and illustrations to clarify the procedures. Stuck for christmas presents?!! = ), 11 Nov 2005
Macleod's 11th edition is an exceptionally helpful learning tool for using both throughout the year for reference and more importantly when the OSCE time starts to draw closer! Admittedly, I often struggle to keep up with all the coursework and it is so easy to feel like your 6 foot under! However, I find this type of study aid a blessing! Macleod's is extremely well organised, clear and concise which makes it very easy to refer to the exact area you want to consolidate. Each chapter introduces the particular system followed by how to take a through history and examination. The examination sequence has been constructed in a stepwise form with displaying colourful sketches of the correct technique to adapt. There is also boxed information which covers key points for differential diagnosis and what signs you should expect to find. The pictures are particularly useful when trying to learn about rare clinical conditions that you are very unlikely to be presented with on your ward teaching sessions as a medical student! This book is especially great at helping medical students to become competent in clinical examination and history taking because it comprehensive explanations enable you to grasp a basic understanding.

beautifully presented, detailed but not laborious, 07 Nov 2005
I used this title for many years and have recently acquired the latest edition. I find it useful for developing a sound base in examining patients through its cocktail of physiologica, anatomical and practical information. Its very well presented and mostly comprehensive. The new edition is actually much better; with new chapters on examining ears and children, essential stuff nowadays. The examination routines are not particlarly practical in the way they are presented and necessitate either a good teacher or another small more focused book. The authors have also tried to make it more OSCE and MRCP freindly by including various abbreviated examination routines for partuclar instructions. Having sat finals, and now approaching the MRCP i have to say its not a useful book for learning short cases or long cases. Its useful as a foundation but you need other books for cases. I still consult it when i forget exactly how the JVP is measured etc.

Having sat finals, and now approaching the MRCP i have to say its not a useful book for learning short cases or long cases. Its useful as a foundation but you need other books for cases. I still consult it when i forget exactly how the JVP is measured etc.
Excellent book, 01 Oct 2008
I used this in conjunction with the Experts Guide Job Interview DVD Job Interview Skills - Extended DVD & CD, and found them both to be indispensable.
Excellent guide to PDP, 09 Oct 2007
For students at school and university this is an essential guide. Personal and Professional Development Planning is key to making the most out of your experience in any educational institution. Employers are looking for much more that the diploma/degree that you emerge form Uni' with. You are required to be able to demostrate your skills and attributes as they apply to the work that you would be doing. Cottrell shows you how to draw these out, collect evidence and demonstrate what you have gained and achieved through your educational experience.
Lot's of detail, too much, not inspiring, 09 Feb 2006
i was dissapointed when i bought my copy of this book. it is set out very much as an academic text and not very user friendly. i was surprised by the style of book the author chose to do. mostly forms and questionaires to fill in, followed by some short paragraphs. it is very much the typical type of offering from an hr department when they are encouraging time management, or reflective practice. not inspiring or motivational at all. the content is ok, but reminded me very much of the type of exercise they gave us for professinal development courses at university. i did not get a lot from them either. thorough but left me dissapointed.
