Fantastic!!, 15 May 2005
This is a brilliant book that really gets you thinking. As a Reception teacher, I'm always struck by how difficult listening is for children. We tell children to listen but don't really teach it. Until now! This is such a practical book and makes so much more sense than the 'Literacy Strategy' which is far too formal and rigid. I've used some of the games this year and will be doing the whole shebang with the new intake in September. The B.B.C Razzledazzle programme, goes alongside this book and the kids love it. Seriously, this is the best teaching book I've seen. Buy it and use it. Give the Literacy Strategy the elbow! (If you're worried that you won't be covering what you ought to be, don't. The author is a literacy advisor on the Primary Strategy team.)

Excellent, well worth a look for all early years teachers., 12 Jan 2001
After using this book in a reception class I would definately recommend it. The activities are short and concise and if the instructions are taped children can easily use them as an independent activity. The worksheets can be linked to many other subject areas especially mathematical development. I will definately be purchasing a copy of 'Listening Skills for Key Stage One' as well so that I can accomodate my higher achieveing children with similar activites. My only critisms would be that the activities do not follow a logical sequence some of the ones in the middle of the book are definately more complex than those at the end.
