City & Guilds 2330 Level I, II, and III - very useful book, 31 Mar 2007
Like its brother (book 1) this book has clear diagrams, concise information and appropriate levels of mathematical involvement for the (2330) I am at level III 2330 taking exams this year and have bought this book because it summarises what I must learn in the City & Guilds Schema v2.2 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology - Installation buildings and structures. Again there are a couple of errors, but no book is without errors so do check your BS7671 Regulations for clarification on each one u think is wrong. Again I recommend this book for the Unit 1 2330-301 component of 2330. (online exam) and the NICEIC Inspection and testing book (ISBN 0-9531058-8-1)for 302 and any up to date snags and solutions will help with the diagnosis and faultfinding (303).
City & Guilds 2330 Level I, II, and III - very useful book, 28 Mar 2007
This book has clear diagrams, concise information and appropriate levels of mathematical involvement for what is a brand new course. I have studied the schema in detail and recommend this book for the Unit 1 2330-301 component of 2330. (online exam) The Units 2 and 3 are another thing entirely though. . NICEIC Inspection and testing book is what u need for 2 and any up to date snags and solutions will help with the diagnosis and faultfinding (3).
would not recommend buying this book, 31 Jul 2006
it is littered with mistakes, simple calculation performed on three-phase systems is incorrect, similar with diversity, the author state that 100 mA RCD can be used for personel protection against electric shock?, but had previously stated that above 50 mA would kill, the whole book is littered with errors. Do not buy.
A disappointing book, 14 Apr 2006
Poor explanations of topics in this book particularly the chapters on earthing and protection, lighting, circuits and systems.
I would advise would be sparkys NOT to buy this book as it is too oversimplified!!
Not enough numerical problems at the back of the book
Poor explantions in some areas, 14 Apr 2006
A greatly oversimplified book with poor explanations in some areas particularly 3 phase supplies and electrical circuits!!
Certainly more examples could have been written at the back of each chapter giving students practice with calculations.
If you use this book in isolation to become a sparky then you will fail!!

Trevor Linsley is a good author but this book is very basic., 23 Apr 2008
I have this book and it's at a basic level of understanding, very basic.
There's no problem with that, but if you are considering doing the 2330 course, be prepared that it gets a lot more in-depth than this !
The electrical qualifications within the construction industry are apparently the most technical of all courses. That's not to say that other trades within the industry are a lesser trade, I couldn't plaster a wall flat or put up a brick wall correctly, or plumb a pipe in if I tried, but this area does get technical !
If you want to get into this area, I recommend the following books initially along with at least the BS7671 and the On-Site-guide version, these have all been a great source of information and reference to me and have so far seen me get through the 2330 level 2 with distinctions ! I'm about to take my level 3 exams with confidence.
Level 2:
Basic Electrical Installation Work.
Trevor Linsley.
· ISBN-10: 0750666242

· ISBN-10: 0435449370
· ISBN-13: 978-0435449377
There are many more books on the market, but these are what I have used. I also recommend for level 3 getting GN-3 (Guidance Note 3, test and inspection) and also considering:
Testing Electrical Installations: A practical guide for electricians.
Anthony Hinsley.
A well illustrated way of testing and inspection of electrical systems.
Level 3 is specific in a big way for testing and inspection along with fault finding and rectification !
Trevor Linsley is a good author, it's just this book is very basic for the level of understanding that is required. But if you have the passion and know absolutely nothing, then start with this book, get the idea and then hit the 2330 with force along with some of the study guides recommended above if not all plus a few extras !
Terrible book, 10 Nov 2007
This book is less than useless for people on this course. It tells you nothing but the basics, often leaving out any explanation as to how it got the answers. It also assumes you know alot more than a beginner is supposed to. Would recommed getting the another title by this author, as he does in depth in other versions.
friendly clear revision guide for 2330 level 2 students, 18 Sep 2007
This book is great for revising for the exams as it is clear and has lots of questions and potted knowledge which will guide you through the course.

all in one review that covers the basics, 30 Dec 1997
For the price it can't be beat. It covers the basics and gives a good intro in to 3 phase power systems (something they don't teach anymore to EE students at universitys). If you are looking for loads of examples and good reading you will not find it in this book. The solved examples are few, and the sample problems are not very practical.

(2330) I am at level III 2330 taking exams this year and have bought this book because it summarises what I must learn in the City & Guilds Schema v2.2 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology - Installation buildings and structures. There are a couple of errors but check your BS7671 Regulations for clarification on each one u think is wrong.
If you use this book in isolation to become a sparky then you will fail!!
all in one review that covers the basics, 30 Dec 1997
For the price it can't be beat. It covers the basics and gives a good intro in to 3 phase power systems (something they don't teach anymore to EE students at universitys). If you are looking for loads of examples and good reading you will not find it in this book. The solved examples are few, and the sample problems are not very practical.
ERRORS, 24 May 2008
Great information, good colour layout. Makes book interesting to read. However, there are many errors in the answers given in the back of book. For example, multi-choice answers given in chapter 5 are 12 in number but there are 16 questions. Then a lot of answers given are incorrect. As this is a revision guide it needs to be accurate.
do not buy this item!!, 11 Mar 2008
don't buy this item i orderd this book 2 weeks before amazon said it was "supposedly" to come out. It is now the 11th of march and it is still not here, Amazon just keep forwarding the estimated delivery date and i can't get me money back.

An excellence book for Electrical technicians, 17 Nov 2000
As a middle manager in a electical motor repair workshop, I found this book could give me up to date and pratical concepts in Electrical Engineering that is not easy to found in other books. Specially in the content about insulation material, it could stengthen the understanding of the basic concept of using of insulation materials in high and low voltage motors. I always put this book on my table for reference. As a conclusion, the content is practical and execllence. But it would be better if the of words of printing a little bit larger for easy reading.
