The truth is out there (though not in this book), 08 Apr 2008
I bought this book because it was offered with Mystery Method and, having read The Game, I thought it couldn't hurt to hear it from another guru's point of view. After all, Style did it.
I was wrong.
My girlfriend disapproves of me reading books on pick-up, and the reason (apart from the obvious) is she thinks PUAs hate women. This is not the case with Mystery Method. Mystery Method is a way to be more fun, interesting and attractive around women. If these tactics were employed by all men, it would make men a much more attractive proposition for women and its techniques should be welcomed.
Ross Jefferies does appear at times to hate women. Page 54, Paragraph 8 reads:
"Oh, the joy of battle, my borthers! Flushing a chick down the toilet of humiliation is almost as great a kick as scoring!"
He unapologetically loves sex, but occasionally uses it to punish women he has labelled as unworthy. He writes:
"To aid you in detection, I've designed what I call rather modestly the JEFFRIES UPRIGHT/UPTIGHT SCALE. It allows you to quickly size up a girl to let you know if she's got relationship potential or if she deserves no more than having one of the "quick-lay" strategies pulled on her."
I found this man abhorrent, not least of all for the spelling mistakes, poor editing and cheap paper in this book, which gives it the ironic appearance of a Christian pamphlet.
The one redeeming feature of this book, that which salvaged an extra star from me, is the brief description of neurolinguistic programming. I know he uses this technique for Speed Seduction and there is enough on it in this book to pique my interest and make me want to learn more.
In short, do not buy this book if you are an aspiring PUA. Read it only as an insight into the mind of one of the original gurus as he was in 1988. It is useless beyond that. Absolute rubbish!, 11 Nov 2007
I am astonished and confused by the positive reviews written above.
This book looks as tawdry as it reads. The type font is thoroughly amateurish and makes you immediately think that you have bought something that can only have been self-published.
The author's writing style is rather poor and he comes across as little more than a bitter woman-hater.
He has one or two good ideas alongside some truly awful ones - the 'I'm your secret admirer,' T-shirt one was particularly unimpressive and the fact that he then went on to offer sell me one made me laugh. This suggestion was not his worst, however; breaking down in tears when a woman refuses to kiss you has to take that honour.
As for the NLP and hypnosis techniques... hmm!
This book has one saving grace - it is cheap. One of the best on the market today!, 25 Jun 2007
"How to get the Women..." is one of the best picking up guides available on the market today. It has precise practices you can apply to real life sitations and seems to be written by someone who knows how to get what you want. The advice was also less heavy-handed than some I've read recently, and doesn't seem to have any of the crassiness of other books. Highly recommened to those who want a better quality of life and dating life as well. Also recommended: "Get Laid Now!", another one of the better advice books as well. original idea, disappointing result, 26 Sep 1999
Why not apply modern communication techniques to seduction? This book instantly caught my interest for this obvious yet so far untried idea. Finding great pleasure in communicating, and particularly in interacting with the charming half of humanity, I found this book too interesting to resist buying. It is for that originality alone that I will grant it two crowns. Beyond that, I find it a shattering disappointment. If you need more confidence for approaching women, then you need more confidence in general. The author seems to display self-confidence in abundance, but that alone won't help any reader. Far better guides for this end would be 'Awaken the Giant Within' by Anthony Robbins or 'Frogs into Princes' by Richard Bandler and John Grinder. For actually researched information about the psychology of seduction it is a better idea to turn to 'How to Make Anyone Fall in Love with You' by Leil Lowndes. What irritated me most is the author's treatment of Neurolinguistic Programming. This useful set of methods the author uses rather unconvincingly. I say that by comparing this book to other works, e.g. to 'Trance-Formations' by Bandler and Grinder, who actually use the very same communication techniques they are teaching. If you work in sales or training or in any other occupation that requires accomplished communication competence and then take a look into this work, you will be unimpressed, possibly even disgusted. If you have no such previous knowledge and wish to have more interaction skills with women, then there are infinetely better sources than this one. Better than reading a book at home however, is to go out, remind yourself that women have a need for communication, too, and then talk with them like the interesting people we all are.
THE MANUAL for all guys, 02 May 1999
Hey this is powerful stuff, I think there is a tendancy to 'not believe' because the method is so simple. Well it is that way with so many things in life, the enlightened smile to them quietly basking in the knowledge of how trivially simple it all is. While the unenlightened, however, are still scratching their heads -trying to work out the connection that links to relativity. Firstly, you must try it and adapt it to your own personality. There are many eye openers in this book, i'm sure all guys could take onboard something that provides a positive benefit to them. Some may not like Ross' style, indeed if you are a overly 'nice guy' you may feel offended. Don't be, remember you can take on board whatever serves you and adapt the rest. Piece :-)

Somehow disappointing., 03 Mar 2001
This book is now outdated (written in 1995) and there has been a lot of changes in the MBA application process over the last years. I would even say that this book can be misleading! Be cautious. Also, do not expect any specific advice targeted for European applicants since this book has been written for an American audience. It is a bit frustrating..
Does anyone think it funny, 31 Aug 1999
Does anyone think it funny that most of the reviews here contain spelling and grammar errors? I'm making more money than any of the MBAs that have commented here, and I never graduated from college! Spare yourself the book and the cost of an MBA, and learn Peoplesoft or SAP.
Wish I had this when I applied, 12 Aug 1999
This book is very thorough and very in-depth. I wish I had this when I was getting into B-School. Of course, I also advise that you understand where you want to go with your career by getting your MBA. This will let you know what concentration you want, and even if MBA is right for you. I'd recommend Vault Report's Guide to Top 50 MBA Employers. It's fairly thorough, though I wish there were more companies covered. They also publish all of this info on their site (vaultreports.com). Save you some moolah. Peterson's Guide to B-Schools is pretty good for general info on B-Schools, but fairly dry.
Nothing New, 08 Aug 1999
Don't waste you time Unless you have a minimum GPA of 3.45 from a top school, GMAT in the mid 650+, and Executive job experience. This book provides the basics assuming that you have the above. I question the experience other readers are claiming to have with this book. For starters if you're at this level of the game this book may just tickle your ego. But be prepared a huge assumption on your part is made that you are already one of the players. And trust me you would know if your one of these people.
If you dont know anything this book is for you!, 04 Aug 1999
This book is great if you don't have a clue. Many of the tips are not exactly what I would call the insiders guide for getting into a top MBA program. Things not to forget are Executive job experience and that record setting GMAT score. No job experience or never held a top management position you say!? Well then you had better be some kind of business prodigy that can laugh while taking the GMAT. However the book did have numerous essays and examples of accepted applicants. This book was also easy reading and can be read in less than two days. Because I felt the book was just a rehash of other material floating around I only gave it a 3.

Awesome book, sick of the cynical reviews, 20 Oct 2008
First off, the mystery method is a well written, well laidout, thorough, clever, helpful book. It allows you to understand certain things about women which make sense and explains step by step how to pick up a woman that you want. The bad reviews it has got are hugely uncalled for, some of the reasons suggested in the bad reviews are things like, theres not enough examples, but not everything can be spoon fed, you need to think of things for yourself and see what works for you, also if there were lots of great examples then there would be a robot army of PUA saying the same things, similar to what was explained in the game. another reason for the bad reviews are due to people thinking its about manipulation, NO ITS NOT! it can be used to manipulate, but using a lines from the film 'Hitch'.....'any man can sweep any woman off their feet, they just need the right broom' the mystery method gives you your broom. Not every guy will work game to just get one night stands, so the cynics saying that its about manipulation are wrong, also the MM allows you to get the girls attention so in the comfort building zone and onwards, they can get to know the real you, would they notice you otherwise if you didn't use lines etc...? probably not! Men have been using chat up lines and things for years so this is just a much better, less cheesy way of learning how to evolve beyond those cheesy chat up lines you hear in the pub every week. I would highly suggest anyone with dating problems or even if you want to understand women better, you should get this book, but i would recommend you read the game by Neil Strauss first as it gives you a great foundation, also remember this is just one of the theories (mentioned in the game) their are lots out there, like cocky funny (david DeAngelo) etc... so read around the subject and learn as much about women as you can, this is one book in your collection, learn, and adapt socially and become a better you and be able and confident to show everyone the real you in the end! good luck everyone!
Good theory - but where's the practice?, 24 Jun 2008
The book's all theory - you need one of his $2,950 courses to make it work, or get a book on it, as he tells you to do on page 77. So what's the point of buying this book? The first 67 pages are his definitions and his hugely time wasting theory. There's loads of repetiton.
The book lacks `canned material' - whole examples of everything you might say and do from start to finish. If there was just one chapter on it, the book would justify itself. But that would be the only chapter you would need to learn, and its missing.
I've finished it, re-read it and summarised the useful bits: I only got one and three quarter pages of useful info. It has not equipped me to even begin the first "opener."
Mixed feelings about this v.practical book - maybe a starting point., 12 May 2008
'Mystery' says that to use these tips u have to go out four times a week - evenings.for 4 hrs a piece and approach 12 women per night.erm - don't really have the inclination to be that desperate and am too lazy to be honest.the book has some good ideas but it all makes u a bit cynical really, informing u of 20 million ways to lie to get women into bed.it all seems a bit sad.there are some good tips n info but it's average. 'The rules of the game may be more practical' and 'The game'is a much more enjoyable read. 'Mystery' isnt exactly ugly as sin either which makes u a bit cyncical.ho hum.nevermind.
Nothing to fear, 06 May 2008
Me being a woman, I wanted to see what methods you men use topick us up. I must admit, after reading this I had nothing to fear about some secret method I never knew about, I am safe, so youmen can read on and live in hope.
The truth about his book, 20 Jan 2008
Well if your skimming over these books and you are wondering which out of the millions to buy. I would say firstly Neil strauss - the game. The game is told in story form but you do learn some things as you read it definately new perpectives on the whole women situation. The reason i would say buy the game first is because it really wets your appetitie for the subject to learn more.I would say that the mystery method book, (which is breifly mentioned in the game), makes brilliant reading after reading the game as you already know the basic prinsciples. The mystery method is well worth the money on its own but it is not a story as the game is, it is purely examples, theory and suggestions. 10 out of 10.

Great book, 25 Mar 2004
Like people have already written, this book is more about the industry than how you're going to get into it. I bought the book knowing that, but I found this book very useful, covering many subjects that I wanted to learn more about. Some of the stuff he discusses in the book are things you can find out by doing simple searches on Google, but I think he has done a good job on collecting information that is crucial when trying to get into this business. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who want to develop a game.
Great book, interesting and informative!, 22 Oct 2003
This book was really good, it tells you all you need to know about the industry before you commit your-self to trying to get into it. The only thing I would say is that it does concentrate too much on 'networking', were you have to know someone in the industry to get in. That said it does give the warnings and the information to decide if it is the right path for you. Also it has very good interviews with people in the industry, a good bit is were it give you a 'day in the life of' for each sector of the industry form real people in the industry. Would recommend this to anyone looking to enter the industry or to anyone remotely interested in the industry!
Buy to find out ABOUT the industry, not get into it, 04 Oct 2003
Well, I liked this book until I got to the chapter that actually told you how to get into the industry. It explains how the industry works, and is very interesting, however in a nutshell, it says unless you know someone in the industry, forget it.

Piece :-)

Out of date, 09 Oct 2007
This book is ok for outlining various specialties but is now entirely wrong in terms of the training paths since MMC has been implemented. Is there going to be an update? Otherwise not very helpful.
Great Book, but 3 Years Late, 25 Jun 2007
This book is great for specialties and a general guidance to medical school, but do not rely on it for career guidance. It is old and dated compared to the MMC new structures. It also has no coverage of MTAS as such.
Somewhat out of date, 19 Dec 2006
Although this book is still an excellent resource with regard to specialty profiles and a general overview of various parts of medical careers, readers should note that the section on Postgraduate Education is now very out of date and does not include any information on the Foundation Years, instituted by the Modernising Medical Careers (NHS) framework in 2006.
Not informative enough, 22 Jun 2005
I expected a lot from this book to make a decision. The previews reviews were excellent, but I have a feeling they may have come from the actual authors?? It's OK, but not really informative enough.
one word - fantastic, 14 Apr 2003
this book provides a great breakdown about uk specialties and the training pathways and exams needed for them. being an international student i was pretty lost about what came after medical school, but now i am found!! opens your mind to options you also may never have thought about if you didn't have any exposure to them previously (opthalmology anyone??) fantastic place to start in considering your future career while a medical student. now if only someone would write one as straightforward for the U.S. system...

It's OK, but not really informative enough.
one word - fantastic, 14 Apr 2003
this book provides a great breakdown about uk specialties and the training pathways and exams needed for them. being an international student i was pretty lost about what came after medical school, but now i am found!! opens your mind to options you also may never have thought about if you didn't have any exposure to them previously (opthalmology anyone??) fantastic place to start in considering your future career while a medical student. now if only someone would write one as straightforward for the U.S. system...
Fantastic!, 05 May 2008
A really fantastic book by a down-to-earth Mum who maintains a sensible and 'what works for you' attitude to parenting. Equally helpful for non-medics as the advice is universal. Be prepared to read it all in one go as once started, it has to be finished!

Customer Reviews
