Excellent book, 18 Dec 2007
This is one of the book which i think every body should use for hir GMAT exam. It can be truly said Bible of GMAT. Highly recommended. A Must Have, 03 Sep 2006
The secret for the GMAT is practice and stamina.
For my own preparation, I used The Princeton Review, Kaplan's Book and ETS' The Official Guide for GMAT Review.
I will go through the advantages and disadvantages of each, and explain why The Official Guide for GMAT Review was the best of the three and why you should give it more time than the others.
Princeton:
Plus
- Good review sections (both quantitative and verbal)
- Practice tests similar to the GMAT
- Online tests are easy to review
- Provides you with a test strategy on how to crack the questions
- Explicitly advises you to practice also with The Official Guide for GMAT Review
Disadvantages
- Does not explain why a choice is wrong
- Not enough practice questions
Kaplan:
Plus
- Good quantitative review sections (appendix was great)
- Interactive software for reviewing the Kaplan GMAT strategies
- Practice tests similar to the GMAT
- Practice tests and sections are difficult, this creates in you a sense of urgency
- Plenty of practice questions
Disadvantages
- The software interface is old and slow, you are left to work with a little box on the screen
- Practice tests and sections' answer choices are not very well explained
- The questions are far fetched and do not fall in the spirit of the GMAT, this might lead you the wrong path
The Official Guide for GMAT Review:
Plus
- More than plenty of practice questions
- You might get the same or similar questions on the GMAT (like I did)
- The practice questions are organized by level of difficulty, the last ones are the most difficult
- Free PowerPrep software that has two practice tests exactly similar to the GMAT in look and feel (free online tests at the mba dot com website http://www.mba.com/mba/TaketheGMAT/Tools/PowerprepSoftware.htm)
- The practice questions reveal actual GMAT test patterns
Disadvantages
- Absence of test taking techniques
- The skills review sections are poor
- Only the last 200 questions in every practice section will be like the ones you will see on the GMAT (unless you perform poorly)
This Official Guide from GMAC should be the cornerstone of your preparation, simply because the questions are from past tests and are very thoroughly researched. This will allow you to develop insight into the test mentality.
Equally important the correct and the wrong answer choices for each question are explained in detail. You will learn the various ways used to lead you in error and consequently, you will develop the feel to spot and eliminate wrong answers.
The rules of grammar on which the GMAT Sentence Correction questions are based are best outlined in this guide. I had a lot of difficulty with the Verbal section until I read through the explanations here.
Overall, this book shows you all the tricks of the GMAT. I did not have bad surprises when I took the actual test; it seemed that I had seen all the questions before. Great study Guide, 03 Feb 2006
I also felt compelled to write after reading the first review. I think this book is extremely helpful! And I felt better using this book than others because it is made using real GMAT questions from past tests. So you know the material is the real thing. Apparently because it is written by the people who write the GMAT exam, it is the only study guide that can use real questions. The diagnostic test at the front helped me to determine where I needed to spend my study time, which cut down on what I thought I needed to study. Also, the practise questions are in order from easiest to hardest for every section, so I knew that when I started having trouble I was in a harder section. It gave me a lot of help! My weakness is in quantitative skills, so I also purchased The Official Guide for GMAT Quantitative Review for extra practise. The basic information in the book is the same, but the questions were again, very helpful. Oh and there are extra score sheets in the back if you mess up or want to practise more. If you want more practise without the answer explanations.
Highly Recommended, 12 Jan 2006
Don’t normally write a review but seeing the comments from A Reader, I felt compelled to post one. I found this book EXTREMELY useful because I knew that the questions were truly representative of the actual test questions, unlike those contained in other study guides. In my opinion the Official Guide is essential for GMAT preparation, and crucial for maximising your score – I managed a 720 score mainly thanks to this book.
WHAT A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, 01 Jan 2006
This book will give u a NIGHTMARE just like the thought of taking the exam will. I was hoping that being the OFFICIAL book of the GMAT it will be my best option for studying for the exam. The explanations for the Math problems are so vague and long without taking consideration of time constraints. I now have to shell out another £20 to buy Kaplan's book; at least it will give me indepth explanations and time friendly strategies. If u need a lot of questions to practice with, then u can buy this book. Otherwise ITS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!

Great Start to Studying for the SAT, 27 Jan 2005
"The Official SAT Study Guide: For the New SAT (TM) (Official Sat Study Guide)" by the College Board is where studying starts for the famous American high school exam. It is their test, and so it is important to see their prep materials. Stop with that, and you'll sell yourself short. However, if you skip this book, you will miss out on the insiders version. What Good Is This Book? The College Board version presents their bias. That's good because they know what is coming up in the next exam. The practice tests are so important. The College Board gives you eight of them, but try to take more. Again, start with this book, and move onward. What's missing? The good stuff. More exams. Other voices. The reality is, the playing field for this test is not level. Those taking courses on SAT test taking have an advantage, as do those plowing through Kaplan books, or those published by the Princeton Review. Skip those options, and expect a lower score than you could otherwise have received. What's really missing? The hardcore strategies. The College Board isn't intending to make the test easy. They want it fair, and to be an exam of true gained knowledge. While this noble desire eventually will be the real indicator of collegiate success, the point of most students for taking it isn't about potential success. It is about money, and/or acceptance to the school of their choice. Get into that incredible college, and continue the same effort in your courses, and the world is yours. It starts with getting accepted. Who Needs To Buy a Book? The SAT is coming up. If you're bright, you'll do well. Doing well isn't good enough. If getting into the local state college is your goal, consider it done. Get something above a 'C' GPA, and something above 1,000 or 1,100 and you meet your goal. If scholarships, or acceptance at a better school are important to you, then you need to study. Good students study. Great students study a lot. "The Official SAT Study Guide: For the New SAT (TM) (Official Sat Study Guide)" is part of that studying. I fully recommend "The Official SAT Study Guide: For the New SAT (TM) (Official Sat Study Guide)" by the College Board. Anthony Trendl

Kaplan GMAT 800, 07 Apr 2008
I think this is a great book to practice for the GMAT, especially for those who think they can get over 700-730. It has some quite difficult questions and some quite detailed answers. I was especially dreading the sentence correction section of the GMAT and found the study section in this book invaluable.
Even though the book looks quite thick -beware that there are lengthy explanations -so there are quite so many questions in here. However, it is good in that it stops you from getting complacent as there will definitely be some questions here that you will get wrong.

Valuable set of maths practice papers, 21 Jun 2006
This folder provides six full sets of KS2 maths practice papers. In three papers calculators are allowed, in three they are not allowed. A separate answer book are provided, so you can check how you are doing. The questions are clear, the graphics well printed, and each paper comes with a table where you can compare your scores if you take the test more than once.
Conclusion: an excellent-value set of maths practice papers for children preparing to take Key Stage 2 maths exams.
11+ Maths, 30 Jan 2006
This book is the first in a series of six. They are not just excercises... they are a complete teaching course and children find them very easy to follow. The author also publishes Verbal reasoning, Spelling & Vocabulary and non-verbal reasoning. Everything a child needs to guide them through SATS, 11+ EXCELLENT

An excellent set of papers to prepare for KS2 English SATs, 05 Jun 2006
This folder provides two full sets of KS2 English practice papers, each comprising a reading test (45 minutes); a long and a short writing test (45 and 20 minutes) and a spelling test. The answer book is particularly good, providing a clear explanation of how to assess results against SATs levels. The question booklets are nicely printed and feel just like a real set of exams. Each one comes with a table where you can compare your scores if you take a paper more than once.
Conclusion: an excellent-value set of practice papers for children preparing to take Key Stage 2 English SATs exams.
Brilliant!, 25 Feb 2006
This pack is easy to understand and implement in the relaxing environment of your home. It gives a first rate opportunity for your child to practice the 'dreaded' SAT's without worry or fear of making an idiot of themselves. Boosts confidence and highlights areas that need to be worked on. Recommended for all children about to do KS2 SAT's. (10-11 years).
