The Marquetry Course, 28 Aug 2003
I enjoyed reading this publication very much. The easy to follow instruction lead you through the illustrations and the various tasks, to perform either elementry or proffesional aspects of marquetry or parquetry. The way that the book is written clearly defines the experience of the authers as both teachers and craftsmen. I have already been sucesfull in producing some of the more straight forward tasks and I look forward to one day being able to complete some of the more adventurous aspects of the book. -- Conclusion, very impressed.

Excellent History and Methods of Marquetry, 14 Jun 2008
I am studying Furniture Restoration at college and this book was in the library. An excellent book even for a beginner, well worth the money. The book starts with the History of Marquetry from the 14th Century to the modern day with many photographs, drawings and explanations. The book covers materials used in marquetry such as tortoiseshell, horn, mother of pearl, bone, ivory, metals, plastic, straw, stone etc. There are precise instructions on dyeing veneer, what veneer to use for dyeing and how to dry it. Chapters on drawings for marquetry, preparation of materials, the procedures and a detailed section on Frisage and Jeux de Fond methods. The book also covers all the traditional tools and machines that have been used over the Centuries. It is the only book that has precise measurements and plans of a "donkey" - a traditional marquetry fretsaw machine. There are many plans for various jigsaws including using a sewing machine mounted upside down on a table! A very informative book.
