Gorgeous, 02 Jul 2001
An absolutely gorgeous collection of illuminated initials, arranged alphabetically. Lots of styles, from very ornamented to relatively plain. Some initials take up the whole page. Absolutely the kind of book I was hoping it would be. If you like illuminations its a great little book.

fantastic book, 16 Nov 2008
I have owned this book for many years and it is still in my top three favourites for inspiration. The black and white drawings, mostly of microscopic marine life, are incredibly detailed and are absolutely beautiful, they will make you wish you were a marine biologist,or a science fiction film set and alien designer(probably).I would have them as wallpaper, but I may be in the minority on that one.If you are interested in art, marine biology or if,like me,you just like looking at pretty pictures,I truly believe you will love this book.
Art Forms in Nature, 30 May 2007
A beautiful book for creative inspiration. However, the cover is misleading as all the prints are in black and white.

Can you find beauty in a map?, 07 Jul 2006
If your answer to the above question is 'yes' then this book is for you. A 'Look Inside' function would have been handy for this book's amazon page to see some examples, but the whole book is essentially a collection of old / rare / eccentric / unusual maps, of cities, regions, countries and the world, all beautifully reproduced in colour. It's a lovely book to browse and dip in to.
The maps themselves seem to have been chosen and presented more from a design point of view than because they carry any weighty significance, but this just makes the collection more diverse.... and curious. Overall, this book is a quirky oddity and anyone (like me) who likes to pore over maps will probably enjoy it.

Chinese Designs, 22 May 2008
Has many inspiring designs! Honestly, I bought this book because I wanted some chinese tattoo ideas and Chinese art is sometimes harder to find than Japanese because they are more popular. I wish the pages have colour like the cover, but overall I'm pretty happy with the designs and it inspired me to create my own.

Where's my review?, 23 Feb 2005
I have already written a glowing review of this inspirational book, which I have owned and used for ten years. I don't know what has happened to the review, but I repeat here that this is the best book I have seen for the serious collage artist, bar none. My copy is so well used and battered that I am considering buying a new one - and tearing the other one up for collage!
