Stunning, 04 Nov 2008
Wow,this is a book that you will look at time and time again. The photographs are stunning and beautiful at the same time. What will Tim be photographing next?
Equus, 30 Oct 2008
This is a beautiful book by photographer Tim Flach with stunning and unusual photographs of horses (and some other animals in the equus family). Everyone who has seen my book has loved it. It would make a very good present for people who are interested in horses or photography. It is a large book approximately 37cm wide x
29cm. It has photographs of everything from an embryo to horses photographed all over the world. It seems very good value for a book of this quality and size.
Stunning, 15 Oct 2008
Stunning photographic images of the horse whether in their natural environment or under human influence. A true masterpiece which will last a lifetime.

I just adore this book, 17 Nov 2008
I'll keep this simple. Basically this is one of my absolute favourite books. The quality of the book itself is fantastic, the images inside the book are top notch and its quite hefty so it will impress friends and family when they visit your house lol. But seriously its a fantastic book that will not dissapoint one bit. But be warned, as with this type of photography there is a little nudity. Tastefully done ofcourse

buy this book now!!!, 22 Aug 2008
I have just bought this book and can honestly say it is now my absolutely favourite book. Tim Walker's photographs are so imaginative, wacky and beautifully shot, that this book is guaranteed to inspire you. If you have been considering buying this book but perhaps are hesitating over its price as I did, (although there is a considerable discount if you buy it on amazon) I would urge you to buy it now as it is worth every penny. The only problem with it is that it is so huge that I have no idea where I am going to keep it, but no doubt I shall make a space for it somewhere in a prominent position where I can look at it every day!
If you do buy it I hope you enjoy and love it as much as I do.
Such stuff as dreams are made on, 20 Jul 2008
A sumptuous feast of a book - already a fan of Tim Walker's work, I could not believe just how much this tome does it justice! It's huge in size and heavy in weight, so you can't just flick through it - you are aware of the effort of turning each page. And each page produces a new surprise or delight. Ballerinas pirouetting under a dome of animal skulls. A brook babbling through a baroque bedroom. An enormous cardboard swan, lit with lanterns, washed up on a windswept beach. None of this has been electronically manipulated - it's all 'real'.
This volume should deight artists, designers, photographers, fashionistas, theatrical folk and all those who love fairytales. Walker is generous with the pages of his scrapbooks - it's fascinating to trace his creativity through the sources of his inspiration. A terrific buy.

Glossy but flawed, 15 Nov 2008
This is a lovely item for the Madonna collector or fan, but I honestly don't see anybody else buying it. The blurb cites exclusive never seen before pics, but really that boils down to about 2 backstage shots, the majority of the book being filled with endless permutations of live shots we all saw when she was on tour.
I'm quite disappointed with how soft focus & airbrushed 99% of the pics are. The whole Madonna Live experience is about raw energy, not fluffy perfection! On top of that a lot of the shots are just plain out of focus! This whole thing feels a lot like a vanity project for Guy Oseary who knows 'the fans' will snap it up no matter how good or bad it actually is!

Fabulous, 30 Dec 2007
A fascinating, inspirational book, beautifully and simply presented. There is a just a little relevant text, but the photographs are generally left to speak for themselves, with just a note of the location and date. The images are large enough for the reader to appreciate both the scene that has been photographed, and the concept of Ansel Adams zone system, making the book appeal to both photographers and non-photographers. The chronological order is also interesting, allowing the reader to follow the development of both the artist and the photographic technology of his time.
Truly Beautiful, 28 Dec 2007
This is a sizable volume of Ansel Adams work, the book is a couple of inches thick. The photographs are truly beautiful - this would make a great gift for anyone who's interested in photography, California or Yosemite National Park.

Bill's artful snapshots, 08 Apr 2003
William Eggleston's photos grow on you. Look through this book for the first time and the contents seem a bit like ordinary snapshots but look again and then again and with each viewing the images become more familiar (still with something fresh to discover each time) but now they start to blend together seamlessly. One reason for this, I think, is that the photos capture the everyday and the ordinary. Taken around Eggleston's hometown of Memphis and in the Deep South, they show some of his relations, street scenes, interiors, buildings and more, though the captions only state the locations. John Szarkowski says in the books introduction "..today's most radical and suggestive colour photography derives much of its vigor from commonplace models" This capturing of the everyday and in colour divided the critics in 1976 when the Museum of Modern Art used seventy-five of Egglestons's images for their first exhibition of colour photography. The 'Guide' unfortunately only shows forty-eight from the show.
Art photography until this exhibition was in black and white and had been for years, colour photos were mostly for ads, commercial print and snapshots. Thankfully the Museum's curator of photography, Szarkowski, had the good sense to allow the public to see something new and fresh. I think the 'Guide' is a good introduction to Eggleston and if you like his creative vision, as I do, have a look at these two books of his work:The Democratic Forest and Ancient & Modern. Both are full of wonderful colour photos of the American everyday.

This is OUR planet.....amazing!, 10 Dec 2006
This is truly an amazing collection.....challenging one's prespective of the planet Earth! We truly live on an amazing planet and it is not often that we get a chance to stop, think, and appreciate all the beauty around us!
I visited the exhibition (thrice) at the Natural History Museum in London, and I strongly recommended the exhibition, and the book. An absolute must see/have!!
Wow! Do I Live Here?, 04 Oct 2006
A fantastic opportunity to see the world from a completely new perspective. Many views are unique and mystical. What a good idea! This book would definately make a lovely and unusual present for any age.
Absolutely Brilliant, 01 Jun 2006
This book opens up your eyes to a whole new world (Quite literally), through his use of brilliant arial photgraphs Yann Arthus Bertrand shows us a side of planet earth, tender, multicoloured, bright, dark and magical that in all likelihood has never been documented before. Some of these photos are truly amazing, making you yearn to visit the actual places and absorb some of the wonderous beauty that emanates through the pictures.
Personally I believe that every person that appreciates photography must own a copy, as should anyone with a passing interest in how our planet works, looks, feels and breathes.
Frankly it's a wonder that we pass much of this beauty by evryday or when on holiday.
From the densely populated cosmopolitan cities to the inner reaches of the Sahara, passing through the atoles of the pacific and the minarets of the Middle East this book will make you fly through an unimaginable landscape.
A brilliant buy.

Ingmar Bergman is quoted as saying '...for me, Tarkovsky is the greatest filmmaker' -- not bad, considering that the source is numbered among the most respected directors in the history of cinema. Tarkovsky made a 'scant' 7 films over the course of his career -- but each one of them is outstanding. His philosophy of art and spirituality pervades all of his work -- including the incredible photographs reproduced in this thoughtfully assembled, lovingly printed volume.
Tarkovsky's son along with Giovanni Chiaramonte (a wonderful Italian photographer whose comments at the end of the book show that he shared a great deal of Tarkovsky's spirit and concerns) have put together this collection -- and I have no doubt that it will not only be treasured by those who are already admirers of the director, but that it will serve as a fitting introduction to those who have as yet missed out on him. Tonino Guerro (a close friend and collaborator of the filmmaker) contributes a wonderful forward.
The strength, depth of spirituality, transcendent beauty and wisdom contained in and conveyed by the images and thoughts here are timeless. One of the driving forces in Tarkovsky's work was to 'stop time' so that the viewer might better understand not only the events depicted in his images, but also, upon reflection, better view his own soul, personality and place in the scheme of things. There are many photographs in this book that have that very time-stopping effect.
This is a collection that I will treasure -- I can't recommend it highly enough.
A Must Have For Anyone Who Loves Great Art, 06 May 2004
The Italian publication of: Instant Light: Photographs by Andrei Tarkovsky, which was released last year is great, making this English language release all the more special, especially since I've heard it will be just as good publication if not better, then it's Italian counterpart. A very special collection from one of the greatest filmmakers in history. If I could give it 10 stars I would.

Note to the author.
Great book and really enjoyed it but WHY HAVE YOU GOT THE WRONG FLAG ON THE FRONT COVER.
The flag you've put in the Union Flag and this is not ENGLAND'S FLAG. If your book was about Scotland or Wales, would you put the UNION flag on those books.
ENGLAND IS ENGLAND and IS NOT BRITAIN. gloriously kitchy & truly British, 12 Oct 2001
A real gem for the (secretly) patriotic. This book conjures up images of the traditional Old Blighty we all know from our earlier days. Brilliant! Enjoyable photo collection of all that is England, 29 Dec 2000
Martin Par casts an ironic eye over what is English. A highly enjoyable book it is a quirky tour round several towns in England. The book consists only of photos apart from a cover note by Gerry Badger and a list of were all the photos are taken. Which it's self is playful in the fact that many of the pictures betray little of there location There appears to be themes running through the book such as flora displays. By homing in on specific aspects and within those the details of life an overall impression of England is built up. I have 'read' the book several times and I find new things every time. Several images are already firm favourites of mine. I haven't read any other books of this type but I would recommend this to anyone looking for a different view from a different style of book.
