Burlesque and the Art of the Teese / Fetish and the Art of the Teese , 11 Oct 2008
'Burlesque and the Art of the Teese / Fetish and the Art of the Teese' is a stunning look at the history of both Burlesque and Fetish from the point of view of one of the most famous models and Burlesque dancers of today, Dita Von Teese. It has stunning imagery and is well presented, without being lascivious or in poor taste. This book is class all the way. The various sections focusing on the history of both arts are fascinating, with information you would never have considered and you can tell Dita is both knowledgeable and passionate about her art. If you're a fan of Dita or just interested in Burlesque or Fetish then this is an excellent place to go, and though slightly unorthodox, this would make a wonderful coffee table book.
Stunning and Beautiful, 18 Jan 2008
I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book when it came out and it's only now that I am writing my own review.
I love every page of this book and recently I went to her only british book signing at Waterstones and I could not decide which page I wanted her to sign! (She is even more beautiful and amazing in person!!!) Buy it and then treasure this book forever, if you love Dita, Burlesque, old movie star glamour, lingerie....anything girly!
Stunning photography if a little sparse, 12 Jan 2008
I adore Dita, I'd love to kidnap her and keep her under my bed but alas it is not to be.
I loved that this book came in two parts, the front has dita in softer, artistic glamour poses, and the back more fetish and burlesque glamour. The book is a little basic, with bullet points which does give off a little "dummies guide" kind of feel...but over all its worth the money.
lovely, 01 Nov 2007
A great book, beautiful photographs and a real inspiration. Well worth having. Dita is a real officianado of everything glamourous and i really enjoy looking through this book whenever i need a boost of self belief and confidence to really express myself. vive le nouveux burlesque revolution!
Overpriced , Overrated and the same goes for the book as well, 29 Sep 2007
Overpriced calendar. I love burlesque , which can be witty , alluring , sexy and creative. This is a bunch of pictures with hollow commentary. If you want pictures to gawk at well there you go this book is perfect for you. If you're getting this book because you want to know more about Dita von Teese well it's pretty vacuous so are Dita's live perfomances.

WOW! Full on, in your face record of the male penis., 12 Nov 2008
An excellent art book of photography of men and the male penis with some truly jaw dropping pics. Though all the photographs appear to be dated from the 50's to the early 80s it just adds to the theme and design of this compilation of penises. A suberb art/coffee table book - it definitely always becomes a conversation piece.
Wow, 23 May 2008
A beautifully put together book which includes some amazing pictures of very well endowed men. Most of the pictures are from the 1970's and pictures are grouped by photographer/studio. There is some interesting information contained within the text of the book, although this text does not feature heavily with the pictures doing the talking. Some interesting mini-bios of the models are included, written by the photographers. If you are interested in the male body, erotic photography or just want to see some massive you-know-whats this is the book for you. Well worth investing in!

wot a bargain., 07 Oct 2003
This book is worth every penny, but it is similar too 'Girlie Magazines' again by Taschen, but different enough to be worth buying both. The content is hundreds of magazine icons of the fifties i dont know their names but they are remembered here in their glory. The pages (original's) are cropped some of the adverts are there in their weirdness and so cheap then. Cover art from magazines is how they where when bought, but i was a baby then so how would i know but if an adult then no doubt i would have bought them. So top shelf from the fifties and excelent value, it will take ages to read or look at. Very good binding so should last for years. Buy it and you will not be dissapointed.
Never reveal everything, 17 Nov 2002
The contents of Robert Harrison's pulp girlie titles, Beauty Parade, Eyeful, Titter, Wink, Whisper and Flirt form the contents of this book They were published between 1942 and 1958 and they mostly showed black and white photos of scantily clad ladies (Harrison did not approve of nudity) in slapstick situations, with copy written to accompany the photos as puerile and clichéd ridden as you will ever read. These photos are all very tame by today's standards. The book reproduces covers and spreads (and some of the down-market ads) from these magazines.
The contents of these titles are basically trash but they do have one thing of interest, their covers, these were paintings rather than photos. Pin-up artist Peter Driben painted hundreds of covers for the six titles and dozens are shown in this book, some other pin-up artists are included as well.
Before you rush out and buy the book you need to know that all the covers and the spreads have been sized slightly bigger than the book. This does not matter too much with the reproduced spreads but all the covers have been ruined because of this enlargement, the title logos and coverlines run of the side of the page.
Two better Taschen cheesecake titles are 'The Rottenberg Collection', seven hundred pages of American pin-ups (mostly nudes) from the forties to the sixties from the collection of Mark Rottenberg. European pin-ups are covered in 'Serge Jacques' by Gilles Neret. Both these titles are far superior to '1000 Pin-Ups' BTW, the book was originally published under the title of 'The Best of American Girlie Magazines' by the same author.
1000 pin ups, 14 Aug 2002
A nice little hard back book full of bright and colorful pictures and photographs from archives of old pin up magazines. One for the collectors, but well worth the price if you enjoy this kind of art.

IF YOU LOVE BIG BREASTS BUY THIS, 17 Aug 2008
This book does exactly what it says it is the BIG BOOK OF BREASTS . This is an excellent book . Dian Hanson has done an amazing job as usual and created the perfect book .The pictures are beautiful and the printing is top quality . It feels like a £100 book it is so gorgeous . If you like breasts you must buy this book . I cannot think of any way of improving this only bigger and more breasts.
Highly recommended you won't be dissapointed.
A Massive Collection of Big Beautiful Breasts!, 06 May 2008
This is the ultimate coffee table book! A big, beautiful book of big, beautiful, all-natural breasts. This giant collection of nudes (420 pages!!!) runs the gamut from 1940's cheesecake to 1980's glamour. And every model is all-natural and silicone-free. This book is an unabashed celebration of curvaceous beauty that almost anyone will enjoy, but connoisseurs of well endowed women will absolutely love. Fans of historical erotica and vintage photography will also love this collection. But do not think that this is just for old-timers. The high quality images and beautiful women that are featured here will astound both young and old alike.
titillating, 14 Apr 2008
I guess it would get good reviews from the blokes!...but it is actually a wonderful top heavy volume of great photos and wobbly bits.
not sleazy, just cheeky, and gorgeous.
Wonderfull !, 21 Feb 2008
What a book.I had this book for Christmas and must say that it was my favourite present.I have been a lifelong fan of breasts and undoubtedly this is the best book I have ever seen on the subject.Anyone buying this book will not be disappointed.
Lady bumps, 28 Sep 2007
An appropriately large (check out the Product Detail dimensions) book for a large subject. Dian Hanson does all blokes a favour by presenting the most memorable large ladies of yesteryear. As the book is basically nostalgia she mostly ignores the silicone rush of the last few years so no Chelsea Charms or Lolo Ferrari for example. Her introduction covers all the usual bases, Freud, war time pin-ups, Jane Russell in the Outlaw, burlesque strippers and most importantly the arrival of the pictorial men's magazine. Without these this book wouldn't exist.
All the photos relate to the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies so the majority are black and white (beautifully designed and printed in 175dpi on quality paper) and impressively large on the page, too. Despite a rather niche part of the overall publishing market the magazines that these models appeared in must have been seen by millions of men and the softcore poses are now sufficiently dated to seem sweetly seductive. Unfortunately there isn't an index so you can't flip immediately to your favorites and not everybody is included anyway (I can't seem to find Busty Russell anywhere) but interestingly there are several models shown, who despite appearing in dozens of titles, are captioned as unknown.
Amongst the dozens of models included, nine (Storm, Barr, Wilkinson, Angelo, Digard, Samples, Natividad, Kane and Stitz) get feature interviews (plus extra photos) and typically they come across as good hearted but sometimes rather naïve in allowing themselves to be ripped-off in a male world and there is hardly a mention about whether any of them made any money from their endowments. The last lady in the book is Guinness Record holder Norma Stitz (though I expect fans of European Karola might query Norma's title) and she is a fitting climax to a wonderful book of visual male fantasies.

Gorgeous,Beautiful,Glamorous,Very Sexy Lady, 20 Oct 2008
Dita is A gorgeous, Beautiful,Very Glamorous and Very sexy Lady, (She is a class of her own)I have been a fan for many years and this book of fantastic Pictures By the one and Only Peter W.czernich is a must have for any Dita fan, fetish clothing but tasteful posed and photographed if you have bought Dita`s book You`ll just Love this one, this book is all of the above so go and buy it
Boys will be Boys, & they know European Women Rule..., 18 Jul 2008
I ordered this book on the promise that the cover picture would be in indication of the book's contents. I was not disappointed. It is refreshing to see regular "normal" women, without make up and airbrushing.
The cover model's photos, especially those on page 255 are worth the price of the book by themselves.
BONUS: For those of us who admire CSI Miami Detective Calleigh Duquesne,
check out the blonde on page 34 to 43. They say everyone has a
double; so this is what this CSI Officer looks like sans clothes !

Admittedly some names have been left out but then again if all the celebs who have appeared within the pages of Playboy over the years were included the edition would have probably run into a second volume. Also some of the photos are not Playboy originals such as the famous upskirt shot of Sharon Stone and the photos of Bo Derek were apparently taken by her husband. But nevertheless, not to be missed.

interesting book, not quite as thorough as I expected, but still parts the curtains softly, after living in Japan many years there were no big secrets here for me, but still the author did the research, and it threw up some interesting factoids...the photos are not bad, sort of an Araki "light"...well worth a peep.
Loved it!, 03 Feb 2008
Stuck for ideas, I bought this book as a Valentine gift for my husband - and I'm really pleased with it! They say 'never judge a book by its cover' but its funky, neon pink, transparent pvc sleeve really does reflect the contents of this book. The photography inside is fun, cheeky, bright & colourful; the narration is in a simple magazine style format and gives an educational but fairly light hearted view of the Japanese sex trade. If you ever watched Jonathan Ross' or Graham Norton's TV series on Japanese culture, then I would describe this as being in a similar style but in book form!!
Absolutely Brilliant!, 08 May 2007
This is one of the most amazing journeys that a photographer has ever ventured upon. Joan Sinclair is a lawyer from the United States, but she is also a seeker, an artist, and so much more. Her dedication, cultural finesse, journalistic intensity, and photographic skills are simply astounding. She has accomplished the impossible here by venturing into the sexual "underground" of Japan - a world where foreigners are rarely, if ever, allowed entry. Over the course of a year she finagled her way into over 80 different sex clubs where she got to know the workers intimately (as a photographer). The massive amount of work she created and presents here is mind-blowing, and depicts a fantasy world where every sexual desire is not only catered to, but is actually embraced.
Sinclair's photography is riveting, personal, and crafted with the eye of a seasoned photojournalist. She has captured a most moving and exhilarating world that very few will ever come to know. This is truly a brilliant accomplishment and a must-have book for all collectors.
Provocative and Erotic, 17 Feb 2007
Most major Asian and European cities have well-traveled Red Light Districts frequented by wide-eyed US tourists. Locals view the sport as a mere curiosity, or humorous interlude. Sort of an Adult Disneyland. Sex is simply no big deal overseas, and why should it be? Tokyo (and Moscow) differ is this aspect. There is a whole Underground of Sex Venues and corporate brothels not accessible to Americans. Not safe to even attempt entry. Pink Box offers a rare and exclusive glimpse inside the perfumed halls of forbidden lust. Tokyo's "Fuzoku" (Sex Industry) is a multi-billion dollar industry, tightly controlled by the Yakusa (mafia). It is very public, yet strictly off-limits to gaijin. It is legal? With a 400 year tradition under their belt, all is winked at by the establishment.
As the author sets the story line, Japan's society is formal, strict and polite. With centuries of social roles and traditional uniforms, the below surface sexual desires are too enticing for them not to satisfy. The sex industry is not only a product of society, but a part of society. Expressing no opinion, Sinclair teases you into the Japanese world of naughty to unbridled perversion in toe-curling photo essays of sexcapades. Almost voyeuristic. The menu of sex club delicacies take the form of breaking these rigid societal rules, with a common theme of fondling the cleanest, purest, teenage girls in off-limits role-playing scenarios. You'll discover surreal fetishes, bondage and softcore groping in dens of sin outfitted with one-way mirrors, kinky stages and elaborate sets. Clients immerse themselves in fantasies, from fake hospitals with nurses sans panties, to submissive hentai characters, naughty stewardesses and elevator attendants, disciplining teachers, secretaries and schoolgirls...even illicit gropings in immaculate train cars stocked with frightened, willing teens in short skirts.
Obtaining just a written in-depth review of the Pink Trade would be highly praised. But for Sinclair to have such a vividly photographed document coupled with interviews is quite extraordinary. She alternates snapshots from pure innocence to peek-a-boo eroticism in close to 200 crisp, glossy photos shot in 80 different clubs. One compelling, unexpected discovery; the girls' interviews bore no resemblance to the stereotypes so reviled by feminists. While Sinclair's publisher pressed her for heart-wrenching stories, abuse, and psychological damage, she found that it simply was not there. In every discussion she encountered educated, well-balanced ladies making conscious decisions. They enjoy their work, and are quite happy with their psycho-sexual choice of employment, to the tune of a six figure income.
Sinclair's erotic Orientalia photography is tastefully raw. It's both a curiosity and a turn on. The controversial undertones make this a great purchase for any couple looking for ideas to stir up the evening. As far as the text, Sinclair is a lawyer, and thus a highly intelligent, engaging writer. Now, if you actually want to actually indulge in these wild festivities in real life around the globe, this book will not show you the how, what or where. (For that, you need Brett Tate's The Hedonist) Pink Box is quite a riveting expose into the bizarre Japanese sexual psyche. Pick up your copy, and close the blinds.
A Great Look into Japan, 09 Dec 2006
This book contains some charming photos that give us a look into Japan's booming sex industry.
Some may find them serious, personally I find some of the photos hillarious!
A brilliant book to flick through for days, to find something new every time.

Both these titles are far superior to '1000 Pin- | | |
