I loved this book..., 14 Oct 2008
I loved this book... Fantastic photos galore as I had expected, but this book is far more than a glossy picture gallery. It gives a brilliant insight into Kate's universally admired and coveted personal style and sheds some light on the key players whose influence has helped to shape Kate Moss as a world style icon.
`Kate Moss: Style' is thoroughly researched, readable and inspirational. Buy this book!
Excellent and inspiring, 01 Oct 2008
Excellent balance between text and pics with loads of facts and bits of interviews I have never read before as well as pictures never seen before to my knowledge.
The author did a really thorough job at finding out about Kate's style which is basically all about having an eye for things and integrating them to make them your own. And that's what great style is about.
Brilliant
A beautiful book - and a surprisingly great read!, 30 Sep 2008
I was given this book as a gift by a friend who is much more into fashion than I am. I LOVED the look of the book but was expecting it to be your typical coffee table book - lots of great pics, but give the text a miss! I was also expecting to feel a little intimidated by all the fashion talk that is all a bit foreign to me.
But, I read the whole book from cover to cover. And it was not only a great read, it has completely changed my outlook on clothes and shopping. There is something infectious about Kates love of clothes - not clothes for clothes sake, but textures and shapes and the way clothes make you feel.
The book doesn't set out to tell you how to dress like Kate, but it did a brilliant job of conveying the mind-set of Kate. And its one I plan to adopt!
I have just ordered another copy for a friend who I know will get as much out of it as I did. You just can't go wrong with this one.

Being Jordan - I loved it!, 26 Nov 2007
This was the first book of katie's that i read and i really enjoyed it. She is very forward about everything she says and isn't afraid to speak what's on her mind! Thats what i love about it, it's just about her. It's a great read and i would recommend anyone to get it, it would be money well spent! :)
Extremely Enjoyable Reading, 08 Aug 2007
I've never been a huge Jordan fan, but I must admit that after watching their documentary series on ITV, I did revise my opinion of Katie and Peter - they seem to be much more normal than I had previously given them credit for. This book confirms that while Katie is a smart, well sussed business woman who knows exactly what she is doing, she is also a very loving wife and mother.
Her story is written in an easy to read style and I suspect that many women will relate to her early relationship experiences. She tells her story frankly and openly, and even if you think that her behaviour at times is questionable, you have to admire her honesty. As most of the story was written just before her jungle experience and therefore pre-Peter, it's definitely part one of her journey to marriage and motherhood.
I enjoyed this book and bought the second instalment immediately.
A Good Book, 23 Jul 2007
This Book is great!
Its covers starting a successful modelling career and you see pictures that work. And she shares idea's.
Her Boob sugery and the process and recovery etc. Everything.
Her Three week stay at the Playboy Mansion and her shoot with them and her promotion a year later.
Alot about Harvey, her family which you love to hear about.
It sounds like she is truly talking to you and an easy reader.
The 'feud' with Posh spice covered.
And many relationships such as Dane Bowers, Gareth Gates, Dwight (Harverys Dad) and more.
I gave it a four because because I think it went on ALOT about relationships. I wanted to know about her, not so much every detail of her relationship. E.g. 'I came home and he was watching TV' sort of stuff, details like that are cropping up alot.
Interesting book. Read it I say. Perfect for girls into Glamour modelling, Boobs jobs, Playboy and of course Katie herself. I love that stuff and I loved the book.
I love Jordan, 09 Jun 2007
This is my favourite ever book! I love her. She is funny, honest, clever and a wonderful mother to Harvey and Junior.
I am not a regular reader I tend to start a book and finish it 3 months later however in 4 evenings I finished this book. You can't stop turning pages to see an insight into what is often thought of as her "fake, easy life and nothing more than a lassie who gets her assets out!" This could not be further from the truth. Katie clearly works as hard as us if not harder and she has put up with a lot of hassle from relationships which humbled me in a way to see that even someone as gorgeous, witty and itteligent as her puts up with a lot of nonesense in order to be loved. My heart went out to her.
By the end of the book I felt I knew her inside and out, good and bad points about her unlike other celebs who choose to tell you what they want you to believe. There is no holding Jordan back in this book.
I passed this round friends of all ages (20 - 62 years of age) most of which were sceptical about reading it "that glamour models book" however every one of the enjoyed and and went on to read her next one "A Whole New World"
I am now looking forward to her third one due out next year.
Buy this book, sit down with a chocolate bar, relax and before you know it the pages won't stop turning!!!
Given this a 5 star rating but that doesn't even come close to how good this book is!!
An enjoyable read, 29 Apr 2007
Before reading this, I met a man who claimed Paula Radcliffe was gutless and that Jordan was nowt but a tart. Me and three other women argued the podgy sod down about these women, citing strength, determination, and them having the makings of feminist icons as to why he was so wrong.
After reading this, I have to say I'm even more glad i stuck up for Jordan/Katie.
Whilst her attention to detail about men is flawless (be it about willy size or what clothes they wore on her first date) reading this, it's amazing how much she's fit into her years (some good and a lot of bad poor thing), and it's no surprise it's a bestseller as it's written in an easy to read, endearing style that reminds me of a big sister who used to lend you her copy of 'Forever' by Judy Blume, with the rude bits highlighted.

A good starter, 10 Jun 2006
This book is a good starter but there are many printing errors (wrong instructions, missing instructions) so beware. It also assumes that you are familiar with some pattern cutting techniques. If you are an absolute beginner it would be useful to have someone in the know to ask as at times it is possible to become absolutely stuck. If you are studying pattern cutting this would be a really useful book to have. If you are learning by yourself, you may find this book to be a little frustrating.
Worth the learning curve, 28 Nov 2002
I found this book difficult to use at first, being used to commercial pre-printed patterns, but with a bit of perseverance I was able to produce some well-fitted pieces that I was quite pleased with. I particularly liked the section on dealing with bodies of different shapes (sloping shoulders, long backs etc). I would recommend this book to anyone wanting the flexibility to design their own clothes.

i am currently in the process of gaining my diploma in fashion and textiles at the nelson polytechnic NEW ZEALAND this tome will aid you in designing fashion garments while realising that pattern cutting is an artform.
This book simplyfies and demystifies patterncutting., 06 Jul 1999
.... This book is easy to understand and is recommended for professionals and lay people alike. Even if you have never patterncut before, this book provides you with all you need to go and do it for your own wardrobe or professionally. It has helped me many a times as a reference tool. I know many patterncutters would recommend this book ,as my teacher did to me. Drawings are clear and explanatory in themselves. And a great efford is made to keep language, jargon and mathmatics at a bearable minimum. It comes in a nice hardcover so that it survives the rough handling of many a designroom. CUT CUT AWAY

Another great book from Maggie, 26 Jul 2008
Just bought this - an excellent purchase. Full of inspiring examples, great ideas to try out, and hints and tips - all illustrated with clear colour photos. Recommended for anyone doing City & Guilds - especially the "Creative Computing into Textiles" course.

Really Helpful Starting Point, 14 Oct 2008
I totally get that not everyone will like Trinny & Susannah, but I think they really know what they're talking about. Unless you fit one of the shapes absolutely, you will probably need to read the shapes you might be, try on the clothes for each shape and review how you look dressed as they recommend for each shape. It's not a quick thing, but once you have clear in your head which shape you are, you then start to understand why clothes you have always liked have never fitted.
Good Advice But A Little Confusing, 01 Sep 2008
Feel Fab at 50
Body shape is crucial to finding clothes that flatter, as they determine the fabrics and styles that will move with you and not add on pounds. I think that S&T, though I am a fan, have moved away from the traditional image shapes such as pear and apple and come up with many more, probably unnecessarily. You really only need to understand where the curves or straight lines of your silhoutte appear and dress them accordingly. So a straight hipped woman with no bum would look great in a straight skirt in a stiff fabric. Curves need drape to skim. It's really quite simple. It was good to see proportions addressed and the photo's were also good. Is it the best book on the subject - not really - but it's a start for someone who isn't able to see a professional. What would have improved it is if other pieces of the image jigsaw were included such as personality and style preference, as this is why many make over programmes fail in the long term.
Helpful in parts, 02 Mar 2008
As a fan of T and S i bought this hoping it would advise me of the right styles for my shape which i must say that it did however the book is heavily padded out with other info which is not at all helpful if your not that shape. the part relevent to your own shape is only about 5 pages long and then the majority of the rest of the book is about all the other shapes. I'd recommend either borrowing this from the library and scanning the pages relevant to your shape for future ref or buying it from amazon then selling it on. it won't be a classic
A very very disappointed fan, 30 Dec 2007
I have been a T&S fan since they 've appeared on the horizon, and purchased all their upcoming books. HOWEVER this one is a total failure! Not only is confusing the 12 bodyshapes -none of my friends are able to identify themselves by it- but the advice given is wrong as well sometimes. They suggest wearing puffy sleeves /long shapeless knitted tunics with big boobes etc.Although there are more bodytypes identified nobody can fit in only one ! I can't even be bothered to look through the book! Don't waste your money ...
great advice if you fall neatly into a category, 26 Dec 2007
I really liked this book, the advice on what to wear and what to avoid is invaluable. The best part is the celebrity examples used, as you can copy them season after season, in the knowledge that what suits their body is likely to suit yours.
On the downside, I found myself to be difficult to categorise, (I'm either an hourglass, cello or skittle), and each body shape has different and sometimes conflicting advice so you cannot just blend the advice of several body shapes. (just in case your wondering.. broad shoulders, medium to large chest, small waist, big round bum, big hips, chunky thighs, shapely calves ? )

Product Description
James Abbe, a 1920s fashion photographer, and Zoran, the designer whose simple, monochromatic clothes were extremely popular in the 1970s, anchor the 500 entries in this massive encyclopedia of fashion. Each designer, photographer, model or icon gets a page with a large photo and informative but short caption. This has the wonderful effect of weighting each entry equally, thereby devoting the same amount of space to Charles Revson, creator of the Revlon cosmetics empire and relative makeup newcomer François Nars, pioneering clothing designer Mariano Fortuny and contemporary favourite Tom Ford. Clearly, a good set of eyes edited this book. It's a tall order to choose just one image to define the many facets of a designer, model, or photographer. The choices made here are excellent and often surprising. The indomitable Coco Chanel demonstrates the ease of movement her designs afforded women by briskly swinging her arm out to one side, while Kate Moss is shown at the height of her waifdom, likely the mode in which she will best be remembered. Model Linda Evangelista is pictured with curly locks of hair. It's obvious, too, that the editors employed the haphazard juxtaposition created by the alphabetical organization. Facing entries, no matter how seemingly incongruous, are united by a visual theme to spectacular effect. The ovals made by the either screaming or yawning mouths of Kurt Cobain and his infant daughter are mirrored in a 1937 Jean Cocteau illustration of an Elsa Schiaparelli design. A model in a 1930s outfit by John-Frederics faces a portrait of post-punk design queen Betsey Johnson, whose floral outfit echoes the flowery silhouette behind the model. A troika of Robert Lee Morris bracelets matches the arcs of a bombed-out London building in a 1941 Cecil Beaton photo of a Digby Morton design. The vibrant prints of Emilio Pucci and Lilly Pulitzer fall together naturally. The reams of fabulous images and the inventive design alone make The Fashion Book a treat at any cost, but the low price-to-size ratio (like its cousins The Art Book and The Photography Book) makes it a real bargain.

A great book for anyone interested in fashion or studying it at college or university Amazing Fashion book A-Z, 08 Jul 2006
An amazing good Fashion book! A-Z of fashion icons, photographers, models, designers, etc. Everyone that is in the fashion world well known! I loved looking through the book as I didn't know every single person mentioned in it! It's a must buy if you are interested/in to fashion! The Most Ambitious Fashion Summary Ever, 25 Aug 2004
This is the Reader's Digest Condensed version of the history of fashion over the last 150 years. Unlike Reader's Digest, this book succeeds in capturing the essence in amazing kernals of elegance, curve, design, and motion. Everyone who loves fashion should have this book. There is simply no substitute for it, and you will have many hours of pleasure looking at its exciting images and reading the descriptions. The book is a great value for its price, as well, which will help make it available to more people. The book is in an unusual format, one page each for 500 icons, models, fashion and accessory designers, make-up artists, hairdressers, retailers, illustrators, and photographers done in alphabetical order. Each page typically has one person (a few have two), with one image, and one brief textual summary of the person's work. It is an amazing challenge to capture all of a person's work in one image, and some great successes occurred. Some of my favorites were Madonna, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Harry Winston, Naomi Campbell, Coco Chanel, Noel Coward, and Rudi Gernreich. On the other hand, some of the old black and white images did not reproduce well. Some of the worst examples are Antoine (a hairdresser with a photograph of Josephine Baker's hair), Maria-Louise Bruyere (a designer), Christian Dior, Max Factor, Barbara Goalen (a model), Gucci, and Hermes. In many cases, these choices appear to have been influenced by the desire to have the facing pages converse with one another. So you will see echoes of design, line, and style in these ways. I appreciate that effort (which is often quite eloquent), but it should not slight the individual whose work is being portrayed. I graded the book down one star for the compromises made here not working well in too many cases. After you have finished reading and enjoying this book many times, I suggest that you think about where else it would be helpful to have a similar work in your life. Perhaps a scrapbook containing photographs of all of your friends who have something in common would be a possibility. You could write a brief text about each. This could greatly add to your pleasure in remembering these friends, and perhaps expand their interaction when they see how you have put them together. Keep to the essence, but be bold!

Brilliant A beautiful book - and a surprisingly great read!, 30 Sep 2008
:) Extremely Enjoyable Reading, 08 Aug 2007
I would recommend this book to anyone wanting the flexibility to design their own clothes. pure guava, 19 Mar 2000
i am currently in the process of gaining my diploma in fashion and textiles at the nelson polytechnic NEW ZEALAND this tome will aid you in designing fashion garments while realising that pattern cutting is an artform.
CUT CUT AWAY Another great book from Maggie, 26 Jul 2008
Just bought this - an excellent purchase. Full of inspiring examples, great ideas to try out, and hints and tips - all illustrated with clear colour photos. Recommended for anyone doing City & Guilds - especially the "Creative Computing into Textiles" course.
I'd recommend either borrowing this from the library and scanning the pages relevant to your shape for future ref or buying it from amazon then selling it on. it won't be a classic A very very disappointed fan, 30 Dec 2007
(just in case your wondering.. broad shoulders, medium to large chest, small waist, big round bum, big hips, chunky thighs, shapely calves ? )
read it cover to cover!, 04 Oct 2008
Really inspiring, loads of great photos and excerpts from high quality sketch books. Buy it! basics fashion , 10 Dec 2007
This is a really informed and visually exciting fashion design know how book. Really easy to read and follow with great use of photography and student example work. There are also designer interviews to support the writings on research approaches and design.
Interesting, but not sure of its utility, 04 Oct 2008
This book deconstructs various styles that are hallmarks of style icons such as Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn etc. It encourages people to adopt a different style depending on their mood. While the deconstruction of the styles is interesting and well thought out, my problem with it is that to me style is not really about mood - it is about personality. Your style should reflect the person you are rather than looking like a cheap imitation of someone else. So, if someone's natural style is "gamine" nothing prevents them from dressing say "avant-garde eccentric" or "cutting edge cool", but the problem is they may also look like they are playing a part in a play rather than being themselves. This can be seen in the different "costumes" Trinny and Susannah have worn for this book. I call them "costumes" because in these clothes their own natural style (which is excellent) has been swamped and they look instead like fake Marilyn Monroe's and fake Grace Kelly's (and, I infinitely prefer the original Princess Grace and Marilyn Monroe). The book might be more helpful for those who are still trying to find their natural style.
Be Inspired, 27 Sep 2008
This book is classic Trinny and Susannah. It is fun, irreverent and full of great ideas. It will give you the confidence to explore your wardrobe and get the most out of it. Just like you eat everyday and expect something tasty on your plate, you get dressed everyday and should really enjoy the experience. This book will certainly help you with that. It also makes a great present, be it for your teenage daughter or your mother-in-law!
Who do you Want to be Today, 21 Sep 2008
This is a beautiful book, packed with fun and invetive ideas/advice for dressing differently. With the depressing economic sitauation this book is a breath of fresh fabulous fashionable air. I feel I can be my own stylist now.
Go back to the BBC., 19 Sep 2008
It seems to me that since Trinny and Susannah left the BBC the quality of their books has declined | | |
