Lovely book and CD, 13 Apr 2008
This is a lovely book and CD. My baby daughter has enjoyed me singing them to her and I'm sure she'll love singing them when she's older. The rhymes are all in order as on the CD (except the first one - Here we go round the Mulberry Bush)and Mum can read the words (as I didn't remember any nursery rhymes!!!). Well recommended.
Nice book, nice music, 17 Jan 2008
The book is good quality, has some good rhymes and nice designs.
The CD is also high quality, with pleasant voices, good music and nice sound effects. My only complaint is that the CD rhyme order is completely different to the order of the rhymes in the book. This means that if someone wants to learn the rhymes they need to constantly look at the index trying to find the page of the next rhyme that comes up. It's actually very annoying and a pity such a big flaw exists in an otherwise great product.
Wonderful CD to accompany a great book, 09 Dec 2007
I've heard so many ropey CD compilations of children's nursery rhymes. This one uses only acoustic instruments and is pleasant to listen too. The illustrations in the book are great and the rhymes have my children miming the actions and singing along.

Excellent for bedtimes, 20 Aug 2007
My eldest enjoyed this from the age of about 18 months upwards. It is a nice gentle read for bedtime. The only drawback is that it has many mythical creatures, which required some explanation (Mummy, what's a ghost?).
Our favourite bedtime read, 12 Feb 2002
My 2 year old son, who never sits still, sat transfixed when this was read on children's tv. I then purchased it and in fact it has been read so often that we no longer need the book. Grandpa, Mummy and George all know it off by heart. The beautiful illustrations and wonderful rhythm of the story make this a magical read for toddlers. Mike Inkpen is a national treasure.
Great book to read, funny and easy to teach the words to, 31 Jan 2002
My two year old loves this book, and can recite some pages off after only having it read three times. It is funny, and disperses myths of horrible giants, trolls, ghosts and goblins, by adding humour and friendship to them. My daughter can remember all the animals in the wood and their noises. She will insist on singing "LullabyeLullabyeOOO" though, another very good Mick Inkpen book, he writes in a way that children understand..also read "Nothing" another excellent book
princess's bedtime story, 20 Aug 2001
my two little girls (ages 4 and 2) have a passion for all things princessy, and this makes a delightful, funny alternative to the usual collection of cinderellas and ballerinas. the little princess is very cute and curly and we all roar with laughter as we try to make snoring noises at the end. a huge hit, got it out from the library time and again and at last we have a copy of our own.
The best ever bedtime book!, 20 Aug 2001
I bought this book for my 2 year old and she loves it! The vocabulary and repeated phrases draw young children into the story. Mick Inkpen's usual exciting illustrations complete this wonderful bedtime book.

I bought this tape for my daughter who is (at time of writing) 2 yrs and 2 months old, and is already a Tweenies fan. When I listened to it myself, I was a little concerned that perhaps she might be a bit too young to appreciate it, but I needn't have worried. I've been playing it for her the last couple of evenings when she has come out of the bath and is getting dried off and into her pyjamas, and she loves it. Given her age, she can't follow all the stories and songs word for word, but that doesn't matter - they have all appeared on the TV shows, and she's familiar with all the character voices, so even though she's only 2 she joins in and laughs at the funny bits! Her favourite at the moment is "Old MacDonald's Farm" (especially going "boing" when Milo says there is a Kangaroo there). So, I can recommend this for under 3's as well as the slightly older age group this is probably aimed at, and I will certainly be purchasing one or two of the other tapes in the series, as this one has gone down so well.

All the nursery rhymes and songs that you remember as a child sung in a happy but not overpowering manner. My baby daughter loves this one and if I'm honest - well I do too!

My daughter loves this CD!, 09 May 2008
I bought my daughter (3 years 10 months)the Letterland Book and she loved it from the start, so I thought buying the CD would be a good idea. I have been playing it in the car on the way to nursery and back and she really pays attention to the words in all the songs and knows some of them now, even though she hasn't had the CD for long. She likes the CD so much, she now asks for it to be played everytime we go out in the car. As with any CD you play a few times it gets a bit boring for you as an adult if you listen to it all the time, so sometimes I just say to her I've left it at home and then play it for her again the next time. She can't get enough of it and if she's happy, I'm happy too.

The singing is BAD- but my children love the tape!!, 30 Jan 2007
The singing performed by Janet Irwin and her french colleagues is almost too bad to be true, some of the songs in French are running way too fast for my 5year old - but both my children (5 and 2) love the tape and have indeed picked up some French and can both sing 'Frere Jacques' and 'Sur le pont d'Avignon' as well as count up to 10 and remember some colours; I guess from their point of view the tape must therefore be rated a success!
Let's Sing in French, 19 Sep 2003
I can't believe that anyone has ever managed to learn a word of French from this. It's really unpleasant to listen to, the pace is much too fast and around 50% of the content is in English. My copy went in the bin after 2 days.
Let's Sing in French - could do better?, 25 Jul 2003
I found this tape extremely disappointing. The children (who usually love song tapes) were quickly bored by the very repetitive content. The style of presentation, no doubt intended to encourage, came across as rather condescending and there was altogether too much English for a French song tape.
The woman cannot sing!, 16 May 2003
Although I agree with the other reviewers that the content of this tape is satisfactory I cannot believe they are able to listen to a note. I am not a musician, but the shrill voice that leads the tape is absolutely unbearable. I am in the provess of trying to return this cassette!
QUITE GOOD, 18 Nov 2002
This tape is composed of well known french children's songs as well as guidance and teaching so it is quite easy to follow and understand what's going on and children will not get lost. The choice of songs is also good - they are melodical and with a specific topics (animals, colors, days of the weeks...) On the other half of side-2 they play only music of all the songs for children to have an opportunity to practice their singing, however, I regard this as a negative point because my kids (age 5 and 1.5) just hmmmmed for a short while and then lost interest. We had to keep skipping this part of the tape (1/4 of the tape!!) and it is such a vaste. Overall, the tape managed to 'glue' something on my kids and they enjoyed listening to this tape. Not a bad way to start learnig French.
