Worth every penny for the look on my friend's face..., 26 Nov 2001
I bought this book for my friend on his 26th birthday. Normally a verbose and witty chap, he was left utterly speechless upon its receipt. Marvellous. Do be ware though. This book has explicit pictures, and is rather shocking. Select your gift receiver wisely. Also, the book is unlikely to be read again - most likely it will cause a stir, receive much amusement, and then be shelved away (very away) from accidental finding. With these caveats in mind, I recommend the book.
totally brillient..., 03 Jun 2001
I went to see the show and it was great, you quickly forget there are 2 naked men on stage and apprieciate the art! The book brings lots of entertainment, especially at parties! Deffinately a must have!
Sexism at its worst., 17 Apr 2001
The Feminists have triumphed;Female genitalia equals pornography while male genitalia equals entertainment.Women can do hamburgers much better but we will never get to see it in our lifetimes.
Brilliant harmless fun for anyone who likes penises. Yeahhh!, 29 Mar 2001
This is glorious fun for anyone who likes penises. Which almost all sexually healthy people do. It's not obscene - just happy. My 65-year-old housekeeper had tears running down her face. My brother fell over when I read the instructions and had to be revived with a cold flannel. And if you give it as a present you can be sure that they'll have seen nothing like it before. Enjoy!!
Ideal present for the open-minded man, 20 Jan 2001
Having seen the show at Whitehall Theatre, without my husband, I just had to buy the book. It was so funny my whole body ached the next day!! I never thought I could see a man's bits perform so many tricks. I also felt so sorry for the girl on her hen-night who had to go on stage and help with the ''Fruit-Bat''.I tried to explain what my friends and I saw but I don't think he believed me. Hopefully the book will explain more!! Thanks lads for the funniest night I've had in years.

I don't trouble reviewing books but I love this one - so thought it was worth doing. It takes the process of stop-motion animation and lays out ways to approach it in clear language with good photographs to accompany the written text. Demystifying and inspiring. If you're trying stop motion, this book will help.

This book is a helpful reference to get some robes as well as detailing on cultural applications of shadow puppetry, i'm following some ideas presented and does start on how you can use photoshop software with any filming.

Simple, original and fun!, 27 Feb 2008
Puppet Planet is a interesting puppet construction book. I brought it to give me ideas for the construction of a basic puppet with a low budget and I am glad to say it was very helpful. With methods and ideas that are easy, cheap to make and look great as the end result. I would say the book isn't really meant for people that are looking for the 'Professional Way' to make puppets (kitchen spoons of all things!) but the simple layout and original ideas seem a great/fun way to create what you want and any beginner that was looking to be creative would find plenty of ideas to have fun with! Or in my case, save the day for someone needing desperate inspiration.

I am an amatuer in the field of puppetry, but a very dedicated one. This book satisfies my every need so far. Beautiful, inspirational photoes; great ideas and a stunning attention to detail. Very helpful - I avoided many beginner's mistakes simply by reading suggestions from this book. If you want to keep it simple of if you want to build elaborate marionettes and stages, most likely you'll find hints, ideas and detailed instructions that will be useful to you
A great Book covering Puppet making/puppet theatre, 08 Feb 2001
A nice book, that shows you tricks and techniques for all aspects of Puppet theatre. It contains some excellant photos and diagrams both of How to build puppets, and the history of puppetry. An excellent Book.

Yo-ho, yo-ho a Pirates book for you ..., 21 Aug 2006
As a fan of both Theme Parks & Blockbuster movies this comprehensive volume massively appealed to me. The author's follow-up to his previous book which focused on Disney's Haunted Mansion had me licking my lips in anticipation and it didn't fail to deliver.
Following on in the same format as the Haunted Mansion book, this edition traces the complete story of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" from Walt Disney's original concept of the attraction being a walk-through wax museum through to it's eventual apperance as an iconic boat ride and most recently the smash-hit movies. It's a highly detailed account of a hugely successful "franchise" and contains brilliant photographs & artwork to complement the superbly researched text. Each page contains a number of treats for the reader, be it a rare sketch or interesting tale and after reading this you'd be hard-pushed to un-earth any further information about the ride in particular.
The book was published prior to the release of the 2nd installment of the popular movie series so there's only a relatively small section covering "Dead Man's Chest". There's a decent size chapter focusing on the original movie but fans of only the films could be a little dissapointed to find the majority of the book covers the ride.
In summary this book is quite simply as-good-as-it-gets in terms of behind-the-scenes material so if you're a fan of Captain Jack & friends or even more-so, a fan of the Disney Theme Parks then this is a brilliant buy

Quick and well written reading on becoming a ventriloquist, 13 Dec 1998
A handy guide to learn ventriloquism complete with tips and some great scripts. I enjoyed that it wasn't too long making it easier to use for reference and easy to take along and read anywhere. A good find.

A big disappointment., 13 Dec 2004
I made the dreaded mistake of buying this book by judging it by it's cover. The puppet's that you are shown how to make in the book are not as professional as they appear on the cover. My intention was to purchase a book that would show me how to make more professional puppet's and this book does not do that, despite the look of the cover! As for the actual contents of the book it is basically a child's book, showing how to make puppet's using socks, paper plates and toilet roll tubes. The most professional looking one on the cover, is actually only a small puppet, made using a polystyrene dish and a sponge. If you are looking for a simple project book for your kids to make puppet's using items from around the house, then this is perfect. BUT, for the professional out there, do not buy this book it is rubbish and not worth wasting your money!

Clear and accessible , 09 Aug 2008
I don't trouble reviewing books but I love this one - so thought it was worth doing. It takes the process of stop-motion animation and lays out ways to approach it in clear language with good photographs to accompany the written text. Demystifying and inspiring. If you're trying stop motion, this book will help.
Quite helpful, 17 Jul 2008
A wonderful book!, 12 Feb 2007

Detailed, informative, challenging, 29 Jul 2004
I used this book to form the basis of a project with special needs and learning disabled children abroad, with the idea of working visually rather then verbally. There are detailed and clear illustrations showing how to make and use puppets, suggestions of exercises to do with them and ideas on building a story and both a sense and reality of performance, as well as sections on the use of puppetry in therapy. This is a fantastic resource - inspiring creativity whilst providing grounded, honest and experienced advice and reflection. My project went really well - better than I could have hoped - and its success was entirely down to the response of the kids to the puppets and the way they were presented, something we could so easily have got wrong. They, and I, have this book to thank!
