Excellent!, 06 Dec 2005
This is a wonderfully easy to follow self-help book from the founder of TFT. The approach is demonstrated with confidence and the examples seem pretty convincing. One wonders why the scientific and therapy community are so low key about taking this method up. It inspired me to undertake a training in Thought Field Therapy, and I have found it to be a very inspiring book!
The right book at the right time, 25 Jan 2001
Bearing in mind that Dr. Callahan made his discovery over 20 years ago this book has been a long time in coming! However, I expect the majority of readers (and users) will not be disappointed. Concise, well written and more accessible to the general reader than his earlier and more theoretical book "Stop the Nightmares of Trauma", Dr. Callahan details his work from its tentative beginnings to some astounding recent findings. Also well presented are step-by-step treatment procedures that Dr. Callahan says will lead to a cure in 75-80% of those who use them correctly. Of course, this will be a grave disappointment for the 20-25% on whom these basic procedures will fail to work. Nevertheless, Dr. Callahan even throws out a lifeline for these people, with a section on troubleshooting the treatments and an invitation for those with more complex problems to contact him directly for advice. I expect few people will do this though - it's so much easier to be satisfied with failure and blame the "driver" than pick oneself up from despair and grab an opportunity that's too good to miss. The more curious and scientifically minded would do well to buy "Stop the Nightmares of Trauma" to get the bigger picture.
This book is excellent, 25 Jan 2001
I have read this book and I have to say it is extremely well-written. The scientific evidence is particularly compelling. It' difficult to argue with HRV results, rouleaux, etc. I have tried the algorithms mentioned in the book on myself, family and friends and we are delighted with the successes. I hope this book will give Dr. Callahan and his work with Thought Field Therapy the recognition it truly deserves.
WHO SAY'S IT WORKS, 01 Jan 2001
I waited for this book to come out,and now that i have read it twice and used the practical instructions i don't believe it does what it claims. The lay out is good, the way the author speaks is very positive but alas thiers to many if and buts i speak from experience as i suffer from panic attacks and i have tried all the theory's in this book but none of them seam to work.maybe this not the type of review people would like to read i wish it was different too.

Excellent presentation of a complex art, 23 Mar 1999
In seeking supplemental therapy for my infant son, I came across Jin Shin Jyutsu. This volume presents so much valuable info that it makes your head swim. Mary Burmeister is quoted in the book as saying " If you are confused, then you are beginning to understand." Simple finger holds and energy release points are shown. Many examples of uses for the therapy are included. My son has cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder. One of the signs of an approaching seizure is flushed cheeks. Both my wife and I applied a simple hold on his index finger, and the flushed color left his cheeks, and he avoided a seizure. If this is the only result from this book, it is worth 10 times the cost.
An Alternative to painful and many times useless therapy, 26 Oct 1998
I found Mary Burmeister's teachings of Jin Shin enlightening. The books can teach you easy pratical holds that you can do on yourself to reduce tension, stress and other problems. The simple holds I performed on myselft were so effective that I sought out a practisioner of Jin Shin who has been so effective in helping me with back pain from a long ago accident to the point I have been able to return to work

a logical and systematic textbook., 23 May 2002
Shiatsu-The Complete Guide is well laid out and informative, with particularly clear line drawn illustrations to elucidate technique. The section on Oriental Medicine theory is concise, whilst maintaining an interesting poetic nuance. Overall, this book is a very interesting read as well as a source reference. The appendix on pont function is the best of type I have seen.
Essential for all students of shiatsu, 29 Dec 1999
excellent book that is incredibly useful for first timers and seasoned practitioners. This is one of those rare books that seems to have more in it each time you read it and as you get further with your studies then the book seems to be even more useful that it did at the start of the course.

It is as good as the previous review!, 20 May 2004
I bought this book after reading the previous review and I have to be honest this book is fantastic. Having just started a diploma in Zen Shiatsu this book not only offers clear photos illustrating the practioners body & hand position during the routine, it provides hand drawn illustrations indicating shiatsu point locations along muscles etc. This book is easy to read and understand and does a great job teaching you about anatomy and physiology. What is doesn't cover however is hara diagnosis and Kyo/Jitsu symptoms etc, instead it has a great section on treating specific pathological conditions diagrams and all. I would recommend this for all beginners in addition to S. Masunaga's 'Zen Shiatsu' & Chris jarmey's 'Complete Guide to Shiatsu'.
The Bible of shiatsu and accupressure. Buy this book., 09 Mar 1999
Take it from someone who knows; this book is exactly what any would-be practitioner of Shiatsu and accupressure needs. If your just starting out, or if you've taken years of classes on the matter as I have, Mr. Namikoshi will show you step-by-step exactly what points to hit, in what order for maximum effectiveness, and using what positioning of the body as well as the hands and fingers you are applying with. No homeopathic practitioner should be without this book; I only wish I had more stars to work with. I must emphasize that I am not acting on Mr. Namikoshi's behalf, nor do hope to see anything except more people writing reviews such as this one other than myself, for that will mean that more people have gone out and found a copy themselves. Buy this book.

Acupressure Taping, 07 Oct 2007
Most people have heard of the benefits of acupressure and acupuncture. These traditional Chinese medicine practices are becoming more and more commonly used as complimentary aspects of pain management and the healing of injuries. Based upon these techniques is acutaping.
Acutaping involves the use of bandages placed on particular areas of the body to treat pain and the healing of injuries. This is similar to another technique, Kinesio-taping, used extensively in sports medicine. The primary difference is that in kinesio-taping these tapes are attached to muscles, ligaments, or joints for treatment of pain relief whereas in acutaping the bandages are placed on the actual problem area, associated loci, or along particular median pathways to support the client in his or her unique needs.
Acupressure Taping is a particularly good introduction to acutaping. The authors summarize the basic concepts of Chinese Medicine for those who might not be knowledgeable about these aspect; make clear the similarities and differences between kinesio-taping and acutaping; and discuss the types of issues where acutaping could be useful. However, the most useful parts of this book are the well set up reference portions of the text. These sections include full color photographs showing where the bandages should be placed for various ailments. The accompanying information includes the number of tapes that should be used and where they should be placed as well as hints about how each set of muscles should be flexed to issue best fit and hints in attaching the tapes in specific areas.
I found this book fascinating. In my Reiki sessions, I often make use of median points and pathways to aid in healing and pain management. Unfortunately, many ailments require longer term work than a 30 minute or hour long energy session. Acutaping could be a very useful element to aid the healing and pain management process.

Makes Thai Massage understandable, 02 Nov 2007
I have not found another book on the subject of Thai massage and doubt I would bother to look for one now. The instructions are clear and the images show you exactly how to massage.
Good bookspace used, 04 Nov 2003
Very useful book for professional training. Clear and accesible, and much more comprehensive than basic texts. Detailed explanations of 5 phases diagnosis and treatment. Practical routines for each meridian and problems thereof and attention to points. Practical help on all aspects of treatment.

Great for experienced Reflexologists, 22 Mar 2008
This book has all the hallmarks of being a well-used member of my library. Easy to read and understand if you are already well versed with reflexology, either on the feet, hands or ears.
I find this book particularly great because I love crystals and wanted to learn how to incorporate them into my reflexology treatments. It has a wonderful selection of ailments that you can treat in a detailed but simple format.
Top notch!

Wow, What a Book!, 17 May 2006
First, the presentation. Large format - 13x10 on glossy paper, card cover. Nice. Flipping through the pages, there are numerous illustrations or photos on just about every page. Closer examination reveals how-to photos and detailed diagrams of the material that is being discussed on each page.
So, the book has lots of pictures, but once you get into the material covered, you will understand why this becomes critical. The book is a good "how-to" book on the practice of Reflexology.
The book is written by two German doctors, once of whom is a physical therapist and specializes in reflexology and the other is not just a doctor but also a medical scientific editor specializing in natural healing methods as well as other general medicines. So the book is written by not just practitioners but medical doctors using these techniques in their everyday practices.
As you go through the book, there is much information here. This is where the illustrations and photos come into play. It is sooo clear, so easy to identify and very well laid out. The whole book is put together this way, making it easy even for the beginner to understand not only the concepts, but also how it works. There are figures that are "zoned" with overlays so you can see how this system works.
But there is much more information in here. The book also shows how to work on hands, ears and head. Again, great pictures, very good instructions and well thought out and presented. The book also discusses Shiatsu. Shiatsu is a massage therapy that uses "finger pressure". It also includes stretching and movement.
If you are familiar with Reflexology and want to know more, this book will provide all you need to know. It is also a good study book for those who want to learn this healing modality. So back to my original impression of the book... Wow, what a book! boudica
