Sorry, but homeopathy is nonsense, 22 Aug 2008
What a wonderful thing homeopathy is. Take a bit of a plant, put it in some alcohol. Dilute it with water until there is no trace of the original left. Dilute it more. And more. And more. Call this a "remedy" and sell it to people too stupid to realise it can't help them. Tell them if their symptoms go away the remedy worked. If their symptoms didn't go away they chose the wrong remedy. You have to be a very expert homeopath to know the right remedy, you know. By the way homeopathic remedies are all safe because the original substance has become so diluted it can't possibly do you any harm.
I'm going to make my own homeopathic remedy. A bit of this, a bit of that, a bit of all the substances, diluted so much it can't possibly do you any harm and then when you take it the one that will help you will fix your symptoms. "Robert's Patent Homeopathic Potency" I'll call it. I'll set up in practice, put on a white coat and charge people for my sugar water. Well, it will be easier than working.
OK as far as it goes, 13 Mar 2008
This book is well set out and easy to understand and is OK for treating basic health problems. The materia medica sections are also good and clear. However, for anyone who is a bit more experienced, they will find this book rather lacking. For a start off - consitutional treatment is not really discussed so you will need another book if you want to treat constitutionally. Secondly, asthma, eczema and other long-standing conditions are not even mentioned. As I was looking for a book that would help me treat chronic but mild eczema I found this very frustrating! This is really a basic first-aid book for acute conditions which, if you have some experience will not be enough for you.
Simply the best, 10 Apr 2006
I have several books for the lay person on homeopathy, but none come close to Miranda Castro's. And it is due to this book that we have had many wonderful results. Personally recommend it.
My Homeopathic 'Bible', 30 Jan 2005
I agree totally with everything the other positive reviews have said, particularly the reference to already owning other books which then become almost surplus once this is purchased. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

one of the best homeopathy guides for parents , 24 May 2007
As a practising homeopath I consider this is one of the best, if not the best, books to give patients with small children. It is clear and simple to understand, does not preach and really easy to use as well. This is the book all NCT and LLL and ABM libraries should have as well as every toddler group in the country. Straightforward and no messing like Tricia herself. A truly practical guide to homeopathy, you can just look up the disease/ailment/illness in the index and bob's your uncle . A fab book ...well done Trica

As a mother of two, I use this book all the time. Its great if you need an emergency remedy in the middle of the night as the information is so clearly set out and well written.
good for traveling, 06 Aug 2004
We took this book on holiday with a homeopathy kit and it helped us with our children with different minor ailments through the holiday. Clearly written, with a good index. Case studies put it into a pratical context. I would recommend this for people who would like to know more about this subject and put it into practice on a daily basis.

The key to healing the self., 15 Feb 2008
Heal thyself, a real call to his fellow man. Dr.Edward Bach, true visionary and healer, sets out in this text an introduction to his philosophical thinking. Written with feeling and humanity. I found this a moving and heartwarming glimpse into the beliefs of a man that has helped so many, myself included, with his excellent and extraordinary system of Flower Remedies.
Everything you need to know about life ....., 30 Aug 2001
Everyone in my family has a copy of this book, which is essential reading for anyone who wants to live a truly healthy life. Bach, the developer of the Bach Flower Essences, explains how the health of the soul is essential to the health of the body, and recommends steps we can take to harmonize the different aspects of our lives. If you've ever wondered why some people catch colds and others don't, he has the answer. And lots of other insights too, which will fascinate and inspire. The best little investment you can make in your health.

Super book!, 28 Jun 2008
I'm very pleased with this book (I have other titles from this range too that are also excellent) and I'm rather surprised at the low rating it has so far. I already have about 3 or 4 books on homeopathy and this is a useful addition to my collection.
I've been using homeopathic first aid rememdies at home for some time now especially arnica so I wanted books aimed at the home user to enable me to find out more - this book does exactly that.
It's nice to have a few books because then you can compare the materia medicas as some offer more complete symptom pictures than others. This is good book in that unlike alot of home user books it lists over a hundred remedies rather than just the most popular thirty or forty, which also means I can look up some that my homeopath suggests for me too.
I like the way they set out these 'Bible' ranges of books because there are always plenty of colour illustrations which makes reading it a pleasure.
It was well worth the money for me!
Not what I expected...., 25 Oct 2007
This book wasn't at what I expected and so I returned it straight back to Amazon. It doesn't go into much depth at all and frankly some of the descriptions in the book are just totally offputting. If you want an easily accessible book, go elsewhere. It is definite not a bible of any sort, more of a mini book and more like to put you off than interest you.

Easy beginners book and good reference guide, 25 Apr 2007
This book is written in an easy to understand manner and is in fact one of the mandatory books on the Bach training course at Mount Vernon where Dr Bach lived and the Nelson Bach remedies are still made to his exact standards.
Judy Howard is one of the Trustees at the centre and is a splendid guardian of the system founded by Dr Bach. She shows a great love for the concept and the remedies in this book and is a natural teacher, imparting all of her knowledge with joy.
This is a good book if you want to know more about how the system of 38 remedies work and how to use them in your everyday life. And it may inspire you to study further.

how up to date is this book?, 12 Mar 2007
Of the many and varied tomes I buy via your website I have never felt strongly enough to openly criticise a book. This book describes itself as the 'safe form of medicine for the future' but I have my doubts, as the entry on 'autism' (for example) is way out of date and refers to theories of autism which were outmoded and discredited decades ago. In the interests of brevity and clarity it has sacrificed accuracy in my opinion. This makes me wonder how sound the rest of the medical information is? As diagnostic rates of autism increase across the world due to better understanding and diagnosis, it is worrying that such a well-known book should be so short on current knowledge and thinking!
Everyone home should have one, 09 Feb 2007
I have used this over the years for children and adults - excellent, detailed, clear recommendations for the lay person. If you are new to homeopathy do not be overwhelmed by the strange names; just put it by your bed to leaf through and gradually acquaint yourself with the homeopathic approach. I have successfully avoided antibiotics, steroid creams and even a hospital treatment for my family using this comprehensive bible. Dr Lockie never puts you at risk and always advocates the safest option.
An excellent reference book, 06 Jun 2001
I have been borrowing my friends copy whilst eagerly awaiting my own copy. The book is divided into section dealing with What is Homeopathy; Prevention is better than cure; First Aid; Ailments and Diseases; Nutritional Supplements and Special Diets. I have often been concerned that when reading other Homeopathy books the reader may feel over confident and that they no longer need to seek medical advice for anything! This book written, by a GP, gives clear indication that the lay person should not think that by following this book they can dispense with professionally trained help. Dr Lockie gives warnings when help should be sought. He also suggests that if possible one should consult a medically qualified homeopathic physician. If this is not possible one should then consult a qualified homoepath but under the continuing observation of ones GP. I believe that The Family Guide to Homeopathy by Andrew Lockie is an excellent reference book.
Excellent book. Recomended as a quick and safe reference., 18 Apr 2001
I first used this book, when I discovered that I had an infection (abscess) on my hand that was infected and solen. I followed carefully the instructions in this book, and as if by miracle, I managed not to take antibiotics, which was the suggestion of all "classical" doctors I visited. Ever since I have tried it a few more times, having always the best results and very fast. I recomended it as a book that should be in every library as a first aid book.

Largest amount of homoepathic psychology available per penny. Very good value. Fascinating read for homoeopaths and non honoeopaths alike - in fact for anyone who lives with human beings. Remedy pictures are helped by being given examples of well know figures who display those personalities. Anecdotes are great.
Fascinating and perceptive, 20 Nov 2001
This is a fantastic book which gives a real insight into psychological 'types', lacking in most homoeopathic textbooks, which generally hardly scratch the surface. It is useful for interested amateurs (like me) as well as people in professional training. If I had to criticise something, it would be the proofreading which has left lots of typos (sometimes several per page) and also some very idiosyncratic punctuation.
Excellent picture of Homeopathic medicines and their power, 11 Aug 2000
As a student of classical homeopathy I support PM Bailey's summary of how some of our top remedies cure the effects that our modern world can have on the emotional well being of us all. I think it should be compulsory reading for everyone!

Excellent. Easy to understand covering many ailments., 07 Sep 2001
This is my first book on homeopathy for dogs, and it is comprehensive, easy to understand and very informative. It covers many ailments, common and rare, and also introduces alternatives for flea treatment, boosters and allergies. There are full listing of all homeopathic drugs, including the origins and usages. It has become my dog owners bible, and hopefully will cut down visits to the vets and expensive vet bills. Well worth investing in a copy, natural solutions have been around for so many years, they should be used more often.

Excellent, 08 Dec 2004
Correction, 07 Jul 2004
Just a point of clarification regarding the review from Greece. Homeopathic remedies are not the same as herbal preparations. Any homeopathic remedy above a 12 potency will contain no physical trace of the original material. Therefore, poisonous substances, such as Aconite, Hellebore or even Arsenicum, are not toxic in the higher homeopathic potencies.
This book should be used with caution., 10 Feb 2001
This is a very detailed book for homeopathic remedies for cats. Each substance is well described and explained with detail. However, unless you have already used homeopathy on yourself, I'd advise against handling herbs as aconite, hemlock and hellebore. Explore homeopathy in depth before using these on you cat.
Useful if you have some prior knowledge of diagnosis, 06 Jan 2001
This book has an excellent index and content page making it easy to use. The remedies are clearly explained. If you already have a diagnosis of the cat's condition, it is a straightforward matter to find the remedy and use the guidelines for dosage and administration. Medical terminology is used throughout and there are no guidelines for making a diagnosis as this is the work of the vet.

A fab book ...well done Trica

excellent, 11 Mar 2005
