For anyone wishing to use essential oils to treat minor ailments this book really is the one to buy. The writer gives recipes for making your own blends. There really is a wealth of information in this well-researched and well-written book.
a real must have!!!!, 18 Nov 2008
i brought this book years ago and refer to it often. It has a solution for almost any ailment, along with natural solutions for your home, your children, your mind,pets,garden,cooking....in fact this book is a real must have.If you love aromatherapy and all things natural, then you will love this book.Buy it and enjoy it,you will treasure it for years to come.
Great for beginners!, 03 Feb 2008
I'm new to the world of Aromatherapy and this is the first book I've ever bought. It's easy to follow and well-written. I can honestly say it was a brilliant buy and I've already mixed some face oil for myself, which works like a dream! It's packed with 'recipes' for everything from face oils to flea collars!
The One, The Only..., 28 May 2007
Aromatherapists I know (including myself) recommend this book highly above all others, not just for the beginner seeking some basic knowledge and starter blends, but for the seasoned pro who requires an almanac of tried and tested information.
Since getting into Aromatherapy, I've read many books on the subject, but this is the one volume I consistantly refer back to. Whenever I am going away for a while and find it necessary to pack a portable essential oil kit, this book is always packed along with it - there's everything in here anyone might need, for any occasion.
I even took this book away with me on my honeymoon!
Honestly, I cannot say enough good things about this book. If you are interested in Aromatherapy and do not own this, then shame on you! Buy yourself a copy immediately!
I recommend this book, 01 Dec 2006
The Fragrant Pharmacy is a book no home should be without. When I bought it years ago I had no idea that essential oils were so potent and could be used completely effectively for all kinds of ailments, and from starting out with a lot of scepticism, this book has converted me. I think if I had to keep only one book it would be this one. Who wants to be hanging about in doctors' waiting rooms picking up germs from the next ill person, when you can keep a stock of all the commonly used essential oils in your own home - with the added benefit of being so fragrant and pleasant to use as well. What I like even more is that my children have grown up with first hand knowledge that these natural remedies work and I'm sure they will pass them on to their children too when the time comes. When they've got a headache, cold or a sore throat, they say Mum can I have some steam please! Obviously its the oils added to the water and the vapours that do the healing. I've learned how to treat, and treated in myself minor burns, sinusitis, impetigo, herpes cold sores (these used to be the bane of my life, now I don't fear them at all) and Candida, to name but a few. In my children I've also treated chicken pox, urticaria and ringworm. My daughter stepped on her heated hair tongs with a bare foot one morning before school, burning the arch of her foot. With a foot soak in ice cold water followed by an application of lavender oil she was walking to school half an hour later. I will be buying this book as a Christmas present for my sister this year.

A great intro to the natural, healthy world of beauty, 13 Sep 2008
If you're a time poor person who wants to lead a more ethical life then Janey Lee Grace's Imperfectly Natural Woman is the book for you!
Janey has taken the guess work out of the products that work, so that all you have to do is read, inform yourself and choose what's best for you.
There are thousands of natural, eco products out there, all promising to make our lives greener, easier or more ethical. It can be daunting at best and paralysing at worst.
But don't worry; with the help of Janey's book you will be able to find your way through the maze of greenwashing and get straight to the products that deliver what they promise.
You'll find tips to help you look 10 years younger and not everything requires a second mortgage! Often one great multi purpose product is all it takes and with my personal interest of reducing waste and saving space, this approach gets the thumbs up from me.
With products to nourish your skin and make your hair shine, you'll find all you need to look young and beautiful without a toxic chemical in sight. In Imperfectly Natural Woman you'll discover which one product is a superfood AND can be applied topically to prevent stretch marks or combed through the hair as an intensive conditioner!
You'll find recommendations for hair dyes, sunscreen, make up and deodorant - areas where there can be a lot of confusion over what is safe or not. This ensures you can maintain your beauty routine whilst greening your life. Who said going green was all about unkempt hair and a bare face?
The book is peppered with 'real life' interviews. It's clear from the success of fly-on-the-wall documentaries that we love to hear about other's lives. By talking to 'ordinary people', Janey reveals some of their favourite products and philosophies on life.
This book isn't just about looking good on the outside, however. Janey takes a holistic mind-body-soul attitude towards food, exercise and ways to balance the mind and soothe the soul.
In addition, you'll find natural cures for common ailments such as cough, colds, sore throats and digestive upsets. Find out the best essential oil for ear infections and which herbal tea can ease a tummy ache.
As well as keeping yourself healthy, you'll discover how to clean your home with household ingredients - not a chemical in sight. Discover how to unblock your drains with one safe ingredient and which fruit you can add to your dishwasher to bring sparkle and shine to your cutlery. Find out which nut will successfully clean your laundry. Yes, really!
Throughout the book you'll see beautiful photographs of Janey who is living proof that an 'Imperfectly Natural Woman' can look gorgeous, healthy and full of vitality. She really is a great advert for all that she endorses; she looks sensational!
If you or someone in your life wants to green up their life but doesn't know where to start, then this book will help. You'll be able to find out what really works, which will save you time and money so that you can get on and enjoy a more natural and eco friendly lifestyle. Buy it for youself and your girlfriends.
Easy to read but lacking, 19 Jun 2008
I liked this book but was disappointed.
I liked the fact that it didn't make you feel like a failure if you still prefer to wash your undies in Fairy. I also liked how for much of the book it was about easy changes you can make. She also come accross as human and admitted she takes short cuts sometimes. The discussion on child birth was really interesting and raised some valid points which I wil definately consider if I have kids.
However I was also very conscious that a lot of what the book talks about simply isn't available to people either on a limited income, outside of London or who don't have the time to spend hours a week being massaged. I also diliked how it glossed over some of the the whys eg she stuck a magnet on the back of her mobile after being horrified by the electromagnetic field it was creating but did the magnet change this? She doesn't say. I also found myself getting incredibly infuriated when the book started to dictate what birth control women should use. Whilst I agree that pumping women's bodies full of chemicals isn't good she fails to acknowledge that for some women it is the only practical option they have. SHe also implies that the methods she suggest are 100% reliable. They are not. The other thing which made me a bit mad was the sunscreen discussions. Her book is very misleading with regards to this discussion and fails to address to real issues and otehr possible reasons for the link between sunscreen and health.
I like listening to Janey Lee Grace on the radio. I think she talks a lot of sense most of the time. I also appreicate it must have been hard for her not to rant in this book! I just wish it was a bit more balanced and acknowlegded that some of the theories in the book are just that; theories and that there are other theories too.
Highly recommend, 22 Mar 2008
I highly recommend this book, It is jam packed full of natural, simple and probably much cheaper alternatives to shop bought chemically laden un-natural cleaning and toiletry products. I love the 'imperfect' part which summarises the books ethos of doing the best we can and being 'good enough'. This is a book is one you can return to time and again, and pass round friends and family too! Janey writes with wit and sense of humour and you know she has been there before you- and writes from experience.
excellent reference book for a natural life, 08 Jan 2008
Really full of tips and sources for buying and using natural products. Not too jugemental!!
Probably won't save you money, 08 Dec 2007
This is a good read - the style is friendly and accessible, and I found the subject matter really interesting. Lots of her tips would make sense for most people; such as a lot of the stuff on diet and what I found encouraging was that Janie Lee Grace isn't a Gillian Mckeith type zealot. However, switching all your cosmetics / skin care / cleaning products to chemical free alternatives is going to work out much more expensive. The toothpaste she recomends is several times the cost of a 'normal' supermarket one, for example, and this is before you factor in the cost of juicers, water purifiers, aromatherapy sessions, feng shui practitioners and the rest. A lot of people would like to cut out the chemicals, but might be put off by the cost implications, which is a shame. I would recommend this book nevertheless - people can take the bits of advice that seem sensible to them, and ignore the rest.

This is an East Asian approach to nutrition; don't let that put you off though. Give this book a chance and you will not regret it. I have many books on nutrition both in the western and eastern view and this one I always refer back too.
Eastern approach to nutrition breaks away from the western idea that one diet suits everyone. Follow the guide to your constitution and optimum health will follow. Uses the five element theory.
I could never understand why I was always so tired, lethargic and mucusy until I followed the advice in this book and cut out eating dairy and consumed more bitter flavoured foods recomended for "damp" bodies. My hair/ Skin/ fitness and general zest-for-life have all seen a vast improvement.
If i could i would give this book more that five stars, Still completely in awe of this book and the effect it has had on my life.
The best book for Naturopathic Nutritionists, 10 Nov 2007
This book is the staple textbook for any student naturopathic nutritionist. It combines Asian Traditions and modern nutrition into one text. It is a large book with 753 pages which covers every aspect of this facinating subject. It is a indispensible guide for nutrition studies and much of the work is translatable into practice. As an added bonus it gives the properties and energetics of wholefoods and list recipes for using food as medicine. This book will undoubtably be used for many years to come. Everyone should have this book, 17 Jul 2007
In my opinion, two of the major determinants of health today are food and attitude. It's true that, 'you are what you eat,' but it must also be said that to a great extent, `you are what you think.'
This book covers the first par excellence and the second comes across in the gentle and enlightened manner of the author. It is a most detailed source book on planning and preparing an optimal diet, giving a really good understanding about the science, eastern and western, and beneficial life habits underlying healthy eating and lifestyle, and aside from that it is just plain fascinating. It is very large, you can dip into it and read the sections that most interest you (all of them) and it has recipes. The section on children's nutrition and upbringing is first rate as well as delightful - read the last sentence. This book will change the way you look at food forever even if you don't take up all of the suggestions.
Every doctor, healer and therapist should recommend it as part of their treatment
Excellent book - well written, 26 Mar 2001
I have read many books on nutrition and health over the years, but this book is one of the best I have seen to date. Paul Pitchford knows his subject matter and he has had many years of practise as a healer. He has vast knowledge in many areas of Oriental and Indian (Ayurvedic) healing and it comes through in his book. What astounded me was the length of the bibliography at the back of his book. I could safely say that 'Healing with Whole Foods' is like an encyclopaedia! I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who is on a macrobiotic diet and wants to know more about healing through diet, or anyone who wants to really understand the fine art of healing through food
Can you have a 10 star category for truely exceptional books, 20 Aug 1999
This book is absolutely necessary reading for everyone. I wish they taught courses with this book in our public schools. It is easy to read and comprehend, yet contains a wealth of indespensible information. When you read this book you will gain an understanding of food and its relation to your body that will change your view of the world. Fully worth the asking price and more. I would reccomend the hard back because you will be using this book regularly for years to come.

The mother of all nutrition books, 13 Dec 2007

This really is a fabulous book full of truthful information that will really help you to take control of your health, I have done my own research into the corruption that is absolutely rampant between the medical community & the pharmaceutical industry & find that Kevin Trudeau speaks the truth, don't let the negative comments about Kevin Trudeau & this book put you off, this book covers a lot of positive ground for those open minded & intelligent enough to absorb it. Your health is your responsibility & this book by Kevin Trudeau will help you to regain control.. Some people have made derisory comments about Kevin Trudeau's character & go on to say that the claims he makes in his books are unsubstantiated & that he is not medically qualified.. It's true that he's not medically qualified in the traditional sense, but you have to remember that the people making these negative comments are also not medically qualified & that their opinion that Kevin Trudeau's claims are unsubstantiated is just that, their opinion & not fact... I repeat, it's their personal opinion & not factual... if you take the time to do your own research & don't let the blanket negativity of others towards this book & Kevin Trudeau put you off then you will find that most of what Kevin Trudeau says is actually substantiated by the Holistic Health Movement & also from within the Medical Community & from Medical research. A good place to start your research is with the relationship between acidosis of the human body & degenerative diseases, may I also suggest that you look up an Italian Oncologist by the name of Dr Simoncini.... if you care about your health & are frustrated by the lack of progress at curing diseases by Traditional Pharmacology then you owe it to yourself to read this book......

This is a self-published book by someone with no medical or biological background and the unsubstantiated content reflects it. To anyone who's thinking of spending their money, look the author up on wikipedia first.
Everyone Should Read This Book!, 13 Feb 2008
This is a book that contains vital information everyone should be aware of. It's certainly made me very aware of what I eat and even more anti-drug than I was before. It's all about the money.
How about serialising this book and showing it on prime time TV instead of Eastenders!!
good book but underated, 11 Feb 2008
This book is very good. I think that if you have an open mind you will gain a lot from it. There were a few things I was not sure about so did additional research bvut on the whole most of this makes good sense. He is not doing himself any favours by sugguesting you go to his website where you have to subscribe to but all the information you can find in other sources. His advice is very similar to that goven by Anthony Robbins in his health workshops.

I'm new to the world of Aromatherapy and this is the first book I've ever bought. It's easy to follow and well-written. Since getting into Aromatherapy, I've read many books on the subject, but this is the one volume I consistantly refer back to.
Useful, but..., 04 Oct 2004
This is a good book to have as part of a collection, but I certainly don't recommend it on its own, as it tends to suggest that fairly low dosages are as high as should be looked into. I do think it's a useful guide for understanding a lot of nutritional supplements, but would recommend it in companionship with the superb "Health Defence" by Paul Clayton and "Digestive Wellness" by Elizabeth Lipski. A useful reference tool.
The most thorough and accessible guide I've seen yet, 11 Oct 2000
This book not only tells you what various nutrients do and where to find them, it reviews recent scientific research into a whole range of nutritional therapies with a critical view. For anyone looking to improve their health naturally, I would highly recommend this easy-to-read book.
information packed and comprehensive, 01 Feb 1999
During this time of the natural healing explosion it is helpful to have a tool which keeps you from drowning in all the information. Another helpful aspect of the book is the reference section composed of an extensive bibliography, relevant phone numbers and addresses, as well as a painstakingly detailed index of conditions and pages which apply. Worth every penny you'll find youself referring to it when ever necessary and feeling empowered to make informed decisions about your health.
Comprehensive and Understandable, 16 Oct 1997
One of the few books I have found that did not make me feel as though I was do something wrong if I did not follow the author's regimen. Nor does the author dismiss physicians in the fashion that other non-traditional authors seem wont to do. Very comprehensive in its approach to treatment of symptoms and descriptions of vitamins, minerals, et al. And best of all, the author actually includes recommended dosages. A great resource.
This is essential for those interesting in improving health, 21 Jun 1997
This is an excellent reference book on vitamins and other nutritional supplements and a "must have" for those interested in learning more about improving their health naturally. It is very well laid out and chock-a-block full of useful information on the dosage, available forms and reasons why each supplement is beneficial. It makes me more confident when I'm shopping for supplements and I'm able to avoid making mistakes buying "snake oil" or empty supplements that have little nutritional value. Thank you Dr. Murray.

The mother of all nutrition books, 13 Dec 2007
Read This Book With An Open Mind, 29 Aug 2008
Rip off Artist, 01 Apr 2008
Dont waste your money he only tells you to pay to look at his web site and the rest of it is just his personal rant against the powers that be.
Avoid, 28 Mar 2008
Murray.
Very Good Indeed, 07 Oct 2008
This kit is a great introduction to safe and practical energy work that will gradually lift, harmonize and rebalance your systems. Anyone wanting to start healing themselves should buy it in my opinion; it's my first recommend in the field of spiritual self-healing. In terms of effectiveness, easy learnability, safety and even fun, these practices have outperformed everything else I've tried that was similar, including some forms of qigong and tai chi.
Most of the exercises given here have been very helpful to me, and a couple have practically revolutionized my existence. There were also a couple that didn't seem to do good things for me, but perhaps I should have expected that, as my energy system does behave rather oddly at times.
The presentation is excellent. There's a crystal, which I didn't use much, plus a DVD and a CD. The DVD is a recording of a workshop with Eden herself, demonstrating the techniques with a small studio audience, and the CD is her speaking directly to the listener and describing further techniques. You will have no trouble learning her ideas or methods, she communicates them perfectly.
To me the most valuable thing in the kit was the deck of cards. As opposed to putting the exercises in book format, 43 cards are provided which detail one exercise per card. This has been so useful to me. I do two meditation sessions every day; in the morning, I have a stack of cards ready with my personal group of exercises (including the basic exercises Eden says are most important). I change these every now and then, and swap cards in and out from my regular exercises according to what I need in a given week. In the evening I experiment more, thumbing through the rest of the deck and picking out more things to try. As a result I have gradually tried everything and worked out what's good for me in a very improvisational way.
Also in the kit is a slim booklet written by Eden, containing some basic energy information and autobiographical details. She is as warm, sincere and sensitive as one would expect, and she is also highly intelligent and inspiring on her subject matter.
I give this kit my warmest recommendation.
Stands by itself, 18 Jun 2008
I have many books on energy. Yet there is nothing quite like seeing the various energy techniques demonstrated, most of which are new to me.
I know I would not be doing these exercises properly if I did not see it demonstrated on the DVD. The method used here is a combination of acupressure tapping, and kinesiology method of energy testing to spot energy weaknesses. She also demonstrates the Wayne Cook posture for balancing energy. I found the Heaven rushing in exercise particularly good.
I was particularly interested to learn that there are pressure points for fight of flight response (also the freeze response), which I now use for staying clear.
In this package is a guidebook with her biography, case studies and an explanation with diagrams of the body's energy systems and a deck of easy to follow flashcards.
There is also a cut glass crystal, with a string for spinning the crystal, which can act like a pendulum. The crystal can be used for chakra cleansing, and I could certainly feel a shift in energy in the chakras as they reattuned to the higher vibration of the crystal.
There is also a cd. This package is a great value.
If you are like me, you may be wondering which I should buy first, the Energy Medicine book or this kit.
This EM kit stands by itself, and the multi media format is more user friendly than a book could be. Also, it is easier to carry around the flash cards than a book, for reference.
I highly recommend the energy medicine kit. If you were to find this review helpful, please click yes.
The Energy Medicine Kit, 10 May 2008
Wow. You have really got to buy this kit. I originally brought this kit as I had suffered from bad achne on the right side of my face for over 15 years and nothing apart from antibiotics seemed to work. I cannot tell you how awful it looked and felt. After doing the 5 minute daily routine for 2 or 3 days I found that ALL my spots just dried up and never came back. It was truly amazing. I also found that my cravings for chocolate and junk food gradually faded. I felt more confident and relaxed and I felt as if a great healing was taking place within me. My mood was happier and I felt a lot calmer around my young energtic children. If I missed a day of doing the routine I didn't feel as good. I really found myself looking forward to doing the daily exercise. I now feel balanced and energised. It also seemed to get rid of my back ache I have had since childhood. Buy it, it can really help you.

But don't worry; with the help of Janey's book you will be able to find your way through the maze | | |
