A few flaws, 18 Sep 2008
I can see how this might work for some people, but it definitely wont work for me. I have IBS which is triggered by dairy amongst other things, and a lot of these recipes have things that I cant eat suxh as butter and cream, although they do sound tasty.
However, my main concern with this book is the misleading information. Reference to good fats in butter and double cream, in my opinion, is complete nonsense. The fats found here are saturated fats, the bad kind. The 'good fats', or fatty acids, that are an essential part of our diet are found in foods such as nuts, avocados, olive oil and oily fish, NOT butter and cream. I think Neris and India should have put a bit more research into this before misleading their readers.
That said, there are some good points in the book, their overall mission i agree with, exercise more, eat better, lose weight.
Last 'diet' book I ever buy!, 14 Sep 2008
Like most women on the diet merry-go-round, I rush to embrace any new ideas for weight loss that appear easy and fad-free. Having ploughed through the introductory chapters where the authors describe in graphic detail their own battles with flab, I eventually got to the part where they divulge their weight-loss secrets. Unfortunately, there was nothing new here; it is basically yet another 'starve yourself for a while then start eating again' regime, extended into a book which could quite easily have encompassed a leaflet. Needless to say,I didn't follow it, but joined an exercise class, starting eating sensibly and have lost almost 2 stones in weight.
Jumping on the bandwagon, 28 Aug 2008
I am another one of those people whose life has changed completely due to this book. I look at food and health very differently than I did before. Granted, it could have been any low-carb diet because it's the low-carb lifestyle in general that has won me over. But if it wasn't for the witty true-to-life writing style of this book, I would probably still be yoyo-ing on low calorie diets! Thank you India and Neris, I lost tons of weight, I am happier and healthier and I have learned so much about food and on top of all that, I've become a cook! Always thought I hated cooking but now I enjoy it!
If you have already unsuccessfully tried every other diet, please give this a chance. It may seem drastic at first but you get used to it really fast. And it is absolutely one hundred percent healthy, do your research and you will find this out for yourself.
It worked for me !, 27 Aug 2008
I am not a diet-book person or one for "faddy diets". I saw this quite by chance at the top of the bestsellers list on Amazon at the end of Jan 08. I bought it on impulse as the time was right for me to do something about being overweight.
Once I committed myself to it (with the company of a friend - which was invaluable), it took me 6 months to lose 5 stone. I have remained stable at the weight I want to be now for a month. It's early days but I feel confident that I can keep to it, and all I can say is that it worked for me !
The basis of the initial diet is very low-carb - i.e. no potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, fruit whilst the majority of the weight is lost. You can eat any meat or fish, eggs, green veg and supplement it with "good fats" on the side - olive oil, butter, cheese, double cream etc. Once you have shifted all but about a stone you then gradually re-introduce low-carb foods to adjust back. It is a sociable diet and easy to adapt to eating out and around friends' houses - think roast dinner without potatoes but butter on veg / caesar salad with dressing but no croutons / cheese (and pate !) for dessert instead of puds !
A few of my friends have done the Lighter Life diet. It was never one for me because i knew that being off food completely for a quick weight loss would then make me panic when I was supposed to re-introduce them. I believe this is sustainable and has made a fantastic difference for me.
I would recommend buying the cookbook for some simple but effective recipes that both my husband and children ate quite happily.
Good luck !
This book needs to come with a health warning!, 18 Aug 2008
While I have to admire this book for attempting to address the issues that underlay a person's overeating, there's not much else to like about it. The "diet" has been put together by two amatuers with no experience in diets or nutrition other than having been on lots of diets in the past. Not a great place to start from...
It's interesting to read that the author claims this book presents a mediterranean diet when that clearly isn't the case. What they actually advocate is cutting out an entire foodgroup (carbohydrates). For the rest of your life. Which frankly, is just plain stupid.
Carbohydrates have received a bad rap in recent years but there's many different types and the authors show their naiveity by excluding the entire group. Put very simply, highly processed, simple carbohydrates are something we should exclude from our diet as much as possible. Complex carbs (whole grains) provide much-needed energy.
The diet advocated by these two woman is quite dangerous. Losing weight safely is easy - you need to burn more calories than you consume. Eat healthily (and most of us know what that means by now) and do regular exercise. It's the only sustainable way to lose weight and keep it off long-term.
Add this book to the enormous pile of faddy, dangerous diet books.

Rosemary does it again, 25 Nov 2008
I have taken a bit of stick in the past for my reviews about Rosemary Conley products simply because I spout off about how gorgeous I think she is.Quite a few people have objected to my ravings about her and told me off for not commenting enough about her products.Well, she is still an absolute stunner,a dream of a woman but this time I will concentrate solely about this simply excellent cookbook.
This is one of her best books to date.It takes a short while to get to her recipes as Rosemary spends the first few pages talking specificly about diet. But when we do get around to the actual recipes they are absolutely mouth watering. What I particularly like about this book is that Rosemary caters for every taste bud with a section on puddings which is a very welcome addition. The recipes are beautifully presented and they do look relatively easy to follow even to a beginner like myself. The whole package smacks of quality.
This fabulous book would make a great present and I have no hesitation in recommending it.It really is presented in a very professional way and it will definitely impress anyone that uses it.Then there is the woman herself. If this book and it's recipes can make you look as good as Rosemary then you are onto a winner.Oops, here I go again, best quit while I'm ahead.Seriously though, this is a great and helpful cookbook and fully deserving of five stars for the extremely delicious recipes.
SIMPLY MOUTH WATERING, 30 Sep 2008
I have just spent my lunchtime pouring over this book, and I cannot wait to try the recipes out. Rosemary starts out with her usual splurg about dieting, and then explains about the Slim to Win Diet. There is a fat attack to start your diet, or you can simply personalise your own diet, and after looking through the book, you cannot fail by personalising. There are starters, lunches, recipes for meat eaters, fish eaters and vegetarians, and whole section on roasts and also a fail free christmas menu, and for those of you who have a sweet tooth a whole section on puddings. I simply cannot recommend this enough -

A real kickstart to a healthy lifestyle, 15 Oct 2008
I followed it to the letter and lost 8lb in 7 days (I was 1.5st overweight, but otherwise fit). It required v little willpower. I didn't even crave chocolate (and I was a 2-3 bar per day girl before) and it has definately unhooked me from my unhealthy eating habits (sugar, salt, caffeine, comfort food) and given me the boost I needed.
The plan requires organisation and the ability to wash up lots (the juicer and blender) as you are making juices up to 5 times per day! Once you're in the swing of it, the juices are quick and will probably save you time compared to regular cooking.
I did feel hungry and light headed at times, despite the calorie intake, but then I am running around after 2 small children all day and rarely sit down. I also has loads of itchy "detox" spots (v unusual for me to even have 1!). The turbo plan that follows seems easier and I have felt my energy levels returning, the spots are going too.
If you are serious about doing this, then get the CD - it really helps if you get half way thro and want to give it all up (pretty normal on any plan!)
Effective but expensive endurance test, 08 Sep 2008
I really didn't like the style this book was written in. It's evangelical, repetitive and irritatingly patronising. I also hated everything being described as juicy all the time - I know it's a juice book but it got on my nerves after the tenth page. The author markets his other products in the book - the marketing is excellent and you have a huge range of products and media to choose from if you feel you need it. Personally the book was enough for me.
As for the diet it's expensive as you need a lot of fruit, supplements, a blender and a juicer but if you are planning to make a lifestyle change then it's an investment. I normally like juices but I didn't enjoy many of these recipes much, although I did get used to them. I had to cut down the supplements as they made me so nauseous and I didn't have any extra energy - quite the opposite - which was annoying as that's why I did this in the first place. Also I was hungry for most of the time, again contrary to the book. However I did lose more than 7lbs and so I think it is effective for weight loss. Note that you are instructed to weigh yourself the evening before you start and the morning after you finish the diet. As you always weigh less in the morning I think this is a bit of a trick to make you think you've lost more than you have. Also in order to maintain this weight loss you should then go on to the following regime in his next book......as I said, his marketing is excellent.
Awful !!, 09 Aug 2008
This diet is my idea of torture, I happily read the blurb and was even excited at the prospect of diet, and unfortunately this was short lived.
The first juice resembled a dark green colour, has the most awful smell, stagnant pond water is an apt description.
About half way through consuming this juice, I threw it up.
I did persevere, but most of the juices are disgusting.
Don't bother wasting your money on this book.
Easy, Simple, Healthy, 03 Jun 2008
I bought this book on a whim as I've only a small bit of weight to lose, but I travel quite a lot so I was interested in the detox aspect of it as well. Every body needs a tune up now and then and this is a great way to do it. If you're looking to shed a few pounds or give your system a boost, I highly recommend this book. I felt more energized, slept better, had healthier skin and was in higher spirits than usual after following this program, it's fantastic.
If you are planning to follow a juice program I very highly suggest you purchase the Phillips aluminum juicer, I love it and use it constantly. Combine a great juicer with some tasty recipes and you'll be hooked as well
effective, if expensive, 29 May 2008
Without doubt the most effective way to lose weight fast - in 10 days I have gone down a dress size; haven't once craved chocolate or tea/coffee. Radical - definitely sticking with it for a few more weeks. I didn't particularly like the writing style and lack of index makes it difficult to go back and quickly find the bit I wanted to re-read. Bought it with the Amanda Hamilton book Life Detox and found the combination of the two really helpful for making this a life change and not just a one off.
But these things do not detract from this being a good buy. My main gripe is the cost of all the powders and extras like Wheatgrass, Spirulina etc. Thought might be cheaper via their website but out of stock for the small sizes and still 50 quid, the set for this book is 80 quid. So be prepared.
Despite this highly recommended.

A juicy little book!, 07 Aug 2008
I love this book, infact I love juicing. Jason is a great inspiration and juicing certainly helped me to a healthier and trimmer body. I have tried most of the recipes and all of them taste wonderful. The vegetable ones are a great way to use up the excess stock from my allotment.
I didn't even buy this book - it came free with my juicer, now that's a bargain.
You have done the rest - now heres the best!, 08 Apr 2008
The recipes in this one of Jason's books are second to none. After doing the 7Ibs in 7 days and then turbo-charge it was nice to have a new book to turn for some difference in tastes. I just look frward to whatever he brings out because the recipes get better and better and you feel absolutely great from it.
I am a huge fan!
Huge range of recipes, 29 Feb 2008
This is a great book, with a massive range of juice and smoothie recipes. There are fruit juices, veg juices, kids juices, smoothies, and even ice cream smoothies. There is a section for sporting types & a section which suggests the best juices for various ailments. All explain why the ingredients work too. Excellent.
The most delicious I've tasted, 19 Feb 2008
A wonderful receipe book with practical and easy juice receipes. I got a juicer like the one Jason Vale used on TV and the book came with it. The receipes are delicious and very easy to follow. They don't need difficult to get hold of items, but day to day fruit and veg. My favourite is the sports hydro drink (with beetroot and cucumber) which I take to the gym with me and it really makes an excellent alternative to water.
I haven't tried a receipe I didn't like. Even my children like them as much as I do. I look forward to Jason's next juice book.
Excellent Book!, 11 Jan 2008
This is my fist juicing book, which came free with my new Phillips Aluminium Juicer. I have read it cover to cover and it is excellent. I am new to juicing and this book has given me somewhere to start from. It contains some fabulous looking recipes which I will start making the weekend once I have bought the relevant ingredients!
I am also very pleased with the Phillips Aluminium Juicer, and would recommend it - In fact, Jason Vale himself recommends this juicer.

Good luck !

Not worth the money or effort., 30 Aug 2008
Honestly, don't waste your money on this book. You can find more than what you can find in here through an internet search on google and it's easier to find as well. The first four foods I looked for in here, I couldn't find any of them. What's more, the nutrient information for thousands of foods in the UK is freely available for download from the Food Standards agency. It's called the Composition of Foods Integrated Dataset. Really, if you are wanting to lose weight, eat more healthily. or just monitor your macronutrient intake, this book is not worth the money.
Very good guide to take shopping!, 18 Apr 2008
This book is the biggest and most comprehensive calorie counter I could find on the market, and it contains pretty much everything you can buy from the big supermarkets. If you cook mostly from scratch it may not contain, or be as easy to find the calories contained in your ingredients, but as soon as you get used to the indexing system, you should find pretty much everthing you need.
I have been dieting for 2 months now using the smaller Collins Gem counter, and decided to invest in a larger counter to help lose the final stone, and I don't regret it. I take it shopping with me everytime, and it is worth its weight in gold when it comes to choosing the low calorie options out there, saving me from spending hours looking at all the packets!
I highly recommend this to anyone who is watching their calorie intake, you won't find it cheaper anywhere else!
Very indepth, 17 Mar 2008
I bought this book along with the 'hugely better calorie counter' and I haven't had much use for this big book. Although it has some interesting information at the beginning I found the index of foods so indepth it was hard to use. Especially if you cook fresh food....it lists tinned foods and ready meals extensively but to work out the calories in something you're cooking from scratch is very hard using this book. I'd only recommend this if you usually buy ready made meals and packaged food.
Brilliant!, 17 Sep 2007
Bought this book four months ago and with its help have lost 2 stone. Initiallly i found it a little confusing, looking up some of the calorie values but once you get the hang of it its great. The advice at the beginning of the book is excellent. Dont join a diet club! buy this book instead!!
If you want to lose weight - this is the way to do it, 15 Jun 2007
Hi folks, i bought the 2006 version of this book last year and i have to say that it has been easy for me to lose weight using it. I lost approx 1 pound a week since January by reducing my calorie intake by 500 a day. As this wasnt a drastic amount - i found that it was quite easy to do. So i have now lost a stone in weight ( slowly ) and so far eating normally - its stayed off. I think what counting calories shows you is where you are going wrong - for me it was portion sizes of rice and pasta, irregular eating patterns leaving me hungry at certain points in the day - i could see a pattern emerging as i was doing my food diaries. So if you want to lose weight - i can recommend this book - it worked for me ,
thanks Anne-marie.

So if you want to lose weight - i can recommend this book - it worked for me ,
thanks Anne-marie.
paul mckenna is better, 16 Apr 2008
i have read this book out of intertest after loosing 2 stone with paul mckenna.i have an interest in people and our relationship with food
i like the idea of intuitive eating, but then its says you shouldnt really eat alot of this or that, surely if he says follow your instincts about what to eat, saying what you idealy shouldnt eat is a contradiction? i mean with paul mckenna there is nothing at all you should be thinking about,no sugar or dairy, meat questions.just plain simple eat what you want and let the body tell yopu, how can your body be wrong.i have lost losts of weight and i dont eat alot of any so called junk food ,but if i really fancy it,i have it. i do think he has some interesting points and my husband stopped smoking thanks to his book,so he is helping people. but as far as the weight loss goes,i think Paul mckennas methods, along side his cd and excercises helped me better. others may disagree...the prove is in the pudding? ha ha
It does exactly what it says on the tin..., 17 Feb 2008
...although if bacteria won't touch tinned food, why should you? The man had the gift of cutting through the industry c**p; he showed the way with smoking and here he explains why you are eating the way you are, highlighting what you actually already know but won't admit to. That's not to say this is painful to read; on the contrary, it is easy (suppose it would be, really)and you find yourself on the path without knowing your feet are moving. That's the strange thing... I'm now a non-smoking teetotal vegan without ever really trying to be. Good job he never wrote 'Mein Kampf - the easyway!' Do I need Allen Carr in all areas of my life? Not to worry - I've got Allen Carr's 'No More Worries' on order.
Not sure what to think, 14 Jul 2007
I read this book because i read the alcohol one and it made me stop drinking even though I had no intention of stopping as I didn't have a problem with drink. I read easyweigh twice and the reasoning in the book rang true for a few weeks but then I found myself questioning a lot of the logic. I like the fact he goes against convention and tries to rid you of brainwashing but then he puts a load more brain washing in which can be confusing. I also like the fact he said that diets don't work as I've believed that for a long time, I also believe that eating when hungry and stopping when full is the best way to maintain a healthy weight but just saying do that and actually doing it are two different things. Most people I know are overweight because they eat emotionally and it's not that easy just to stop it because someone tells you to. I think people would be better off looking into the various books out there based on intuitive eating as a lot of them cover emotional eating. What I like about the easyweigh book is that now I really enjoy a fruit salad for breakfast, I find it so much more refreshing than a bowl of cereal. In fact I think I eat even more fruit and veg than I used to, I feel like I've regained my love of fresh fruit and veg. My open mind also helped me try juice on cereal which I really like and having boiled hot water instead of tea I find so much more refreshing (before these things would've sounded crazy to me due to convention). In fact I rarely have decaf. tea or coffee now never mind caffinated. I also no longer force dairy produce down me, I am milk-fat intolerant but made myself eat dairy to be healthy now I feel strong enough to not eat as much of it, although I have started to get calcium fortified juice just in case!! I still eat dairy if i fancy it as I'm usually ok once in a while and banning things just makes me want them more. I am also now more inclined towards a vegetarian option in the restaurant, I don't feel like I have to have meat every time but I still crave meat on occassion. The one thing I really do not like about this book is that even though it stresses that diets don't work ultimately it is a diet. Although you can eat whatever you want in theory, it still says what you should eat and what foods aren't so good which will make people feel guilty when they eat those foods which keeps people stuck in the diet mentality. I'm glad I read it but I'm going to take my favorite bits then dump the rest and carry on eating intuitively.
Could be better, 03 Jul 2007
I have read both Allen Carr's easyway and onlyway books ( both very helpful), so i decided to read the easyweigh book.
I think when Allen discovered his no smoking method , he was frustrated by the lack of support from the medical profession ,so i felt he used his books as a medium to project his frustrations; easyweigh being no exception.
At the end of his onlyway book he asked "if the experts are wrong about smoking , what else are they wrong about?", so this question seems to reflect his frame of mind while writing the easyweigh book. It also effects the integrity of his request to keep an "open mind" since he has already developed a negative bias towards the medical profession.
He seems to base his ideas on wild animals and evolution and assumes that both animal eating patterns and evolution are perfect. However there are plenty of counter examples , for example if wild animals are kept in zoo's they still eat instinctively but tend to become overweight if given too much food.
Observing wild animals I could argue that exercise is bad for us! Animals which don't move around as much (elephants , turtles etc) live far longer than more active animals (tigers , squirrels etc) , so I conclude that we should keep physical activity to a minimum! (would you drive longer miles in your car to keep the engine lasting longer?).
So clearly these basis are not reliable enough to produce firm conclusions, conversely Allen Carr seems to have firm belief in them.
He states that meat, milk and dairy products have devastating effects on the body , however the real evidence lies in the lives of senior citizen;
if asked , anyone healthy over the age of 70 would confirm that their daily food intake in their lives included meats and dairy products, so the effects of eating such foods cant be too devastating right ?
EVEN if all his theories are correct , is easyweigh really a practical eating plan ? Contrary to his claims most green vegetables don't contain much energy (read labels in supermarkets). So one would need around 20 standard fruits to satisfy the daily needs, that's 140 fruits per week per person, that around 500 fruits for a family per week! Supermarkets don't usually stock that much fruit. It would also be impractical to adhere to family meals at set times (the whole family would have to read the book AND agree with it).
However I have to give credit to Allen Carr for the time spent on the book. It also requires a lot of self confidence to write something this controversial and if his book has helped people achieve goals without long term complications , then the book has served its purpose.
Amusing Read, 19 Jun 2007
After reading reviews on Amazon , I decided to read this book since I am a fan of unorthodox writings .The book seems to have a lot comparisons with the way animals eat , but I feel he seems to rush to conclusions, for example: Is instinctive eating the real reason why wild animals are not overweight?
He agrees that in the wild there is not enough food , but he also states that in times of abundant food there are no overweight animals. But he fails to state that with abundance of food there is fierce competition for the food , and instead of becoming overweight animals seem to give more births which reduces the food/animal ratio and eventually leads to less food. His analogy on termites was completely wrong , termites are incapable of storing fat so they can never gain weight.
I don't think he seems to understand quite how evolution works; evolution worked to maximize survivability in a certain environment, we have moved out of that environment quite fast, and so we are not very well suited to such an abundance of food, which is also the reason why home bred animals become overweight (contrary to his claims).(in the wild storing fat is a good thing , you survive longer).
I was VERY amused when he stated that meat contains very little energy, Its a complete contradiction to what he's trying to prove. If meat contains very little energy then we can eat as much meat as we want and never gain weight!
Personally I felt the focus of the book was more orientated around contradicting "experts" rather than securing a practical weight loss solution.
