Must have item, 10 Oct 2008
This is a must have item for anyone with candida. The recipes are a life-saver. The easy part is figuring out what you can't have but i really needed help with what i can have & this was it. 5 stars.
Really helpful., 15 Aug 2008
A great book to help beat candida. When I've tried the suggestions then I've really been helped.Well written and easily understood, this is a brilliant book for anyone suffering from candida effects.
Erica White's Beat Candida Cookbook, 23 Feb 2007
This is the best money I have ever spent. Having suffered for years with a yeast infection which over the counter drugs have no impact on, I was desperate! This diet is NOT for the faint hearted! For the first two week I was suicidal (well almost) but now five weeks down the line I can feel the benefit. It's working and as an added bonus I have lost a stone in weight already. The hard work is not over for me yet but I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel. The book takes you through a four point plan, you MUST follow this to the letter. Everything is explained thoroughly and you learn what certain foods do and how your body reacts to them. Supplements are recommended and there is information at the back for suppliers. The recipes are great and helped me get more inventive with the ingredients I was able to eat. You have to forgo a lot: all types of sugar fructose, lactose etc so no milk or fruit, no cheese, mushrooms, bread other than soda bread, tea or coffee the list goes on but don't despair you can live and have tasty food. If you suffer with a yeast/candida infection this book will definitely help, it is a must have.
Super, so helpful, 22 Feb 2007
Thank you, Erika White, for producing a book that gives all the necessary and useful information on what Candida is and how to beat it in an easily accessible, compact form, great to read first time as well as over again, and to dip into for double-checking and reference. Since this is written by a nutritionist who also suffered from Candidiasis herself, I felt I was in most competent and understanding hands - very much needed with a tricky and upsetting problem like Candida. This book is a true companion on the road to recovery, to lean on in the beginning, which can be tough, and along the way. It helps me understand what is going on in my body, to recognise and handle the symptoms I am experiencing, both before and during the diet and treatment program.
The best part for me is the recipe section. The pure and simple facts could be retrieved from other books (even though many of them are not written as concisely) but the main question I needed an answer to was, "So how do I still feed myself?", especially as I have to live a particularly restricting diet (no gluten, no dairy). Erika White has considered all of these problems and gives wonderfully practical solutions which enable the sufferer to still make their foods taste good.
Simply invaluable to me: A bread recipe free of ingredients that contain gluten or dairy. I've been hunting for this for years, a true life saver! My heartfelt thanks to the author.

Brilliant. Easy to follow, simple recipies that make you forget that it's a diet at all.

If you've just been diagnosed check out other books BEFORE you buy this one. This is a great book but it's quite complex and off-putting by the sheer size alone.
There are 3 parts to the book (with 12 chapters in total): nutritional healing for PCOS, tackling your problems and prepare for success.
Whilst it is a great book my life wouldn't have been missing anything if I hadn't have bought it. The appendix is extremely useful as it summarises a lot of information that is available on the internet. Likewise, the suggested reading also provides useful material.
don't buy both the PCOS handbook and the diet book, 05 Aug 2007
The "Ultimate PCOS Handbook" and the PCOS diet book by the same authors contain very similar content so it is a real waste of money to buy both. Buy one or the other (I think I like the handbook a little better than the diet book but they are so similar that there is not much to choose between them), but don't bother buying both.
Very Helpful, 26 Feb 2007
I found this book very helpful and informative and it definitely helped me control my PCOS symptoms even long enough to successfully fall pregnant.
wonderful, 20 Dec 2006
Basically, I was only diagnosed with PCOS a few months ago and I didn't really act on it, my doctor didn't even really know anything about it and he gave me a couple of sheets that he had about PCOS, I went back to the doctors and he did refer me to a specialist, she was a gynecologist but she actually specialised in PCOS. They gave me a few pointers on how I should be eating a low GI diet, gave me the option of going on the pill (which I declined) blah blah blah, but really I don't tend to actually eat very unhealthily anyway and I do a reasonable amount of excercise, but yet I am about a stone and a half over weight, for a anyone else, the diet I eat and the exercise I do, they would be a go0d weight I would imagine, as all of my friends eat worse than i do and don't do anywhere near as much exercise yet they are all like a size 8. I bought this bo0k and another bo0k by colette harris and dr adam carey which was just about PCOS because I felt that what the professionals had told me and what I had found on the internet wasn't quite enough, and both of the bo0ks really helped with my understanding of what PCOS actually is, and how I can work on it. Things are lo0king up at last!
so yes it is a must have for anyone experiencing PCOS because this bo0k will help to combat the symptoms so it will help you fight against acne, obesity, irregular periods, excess hair, hair loss all that jazz.
Brilliant book, buy it now!, 01 Mar 2005
A really helpful, informative and surprising book. Very practical with useful explanations of what works and why. Unlike some other PCOS diet books, it doesn't demand rapid and difficult lifestyle changes; the message seems to be "everything in moderation", which is very encouraging. Altogether a brilliant buy and an invaluable tool in the ongoing battle with PCOS.

Great Book, 09 Jul 2006
This book was one of the first books I read on Cancer which I found to be extremely helpful.
The book is well-structured giving concise and coherent information. For those of you who have received devasting news about Cancer and are trying to find out about it, then this book is a must read.
The First Section explains in detail how your body works, what Cancer is, how it begins and how minerals etc balance the body and fight against Cancer.
The Second Section explains what type of side effects you may experience during your treatment and how your body reacts to the treatment and suggests practical ways to combat them.
The Third Section suggests how eating the right foods can provide maximum benefits for combatting Cancer and the side effects of your treatment and provides solutions to dealing with Underweight/Overweight problems during treatment. This book provides meal suggestions and a comprehensive list of which types of foods are essential to eat and avoid. These are foods which are easy to buy and are not overly expensive. It's also very easy to incorporate into your daily diet.
Overall the book provides a greater understanding of the body and how the right Nutrition can aid the body to fight against Cancer.
Before I read this book I felt as the world had just collapsed on top of me and I had so many questions and fears. However, after reading this book I had a clearer picture of how to move on in a more positive approach.
I give this book 5 stars as I truely believe that this book is essential for anyone with Cancer.

Non-preaching, eye opening and encouraging., 23 Sep 2008
Have to be honest, it's rare I'll even bother to write a book review but feel compelled to here. After being a veggie for 20 years, I'm toying with the idea of becoming a vegan. I'm not one for being preached at and most 'activists' irritate me beyond description. Also, I'm not one for overblown American in your face type writing, so I was a little apprehensive about buying this. I needn't have been. It's superb. Honest, humorous, non preachy and debunks many myths including several perpetuated by vegans themselves. The authors include links for further info and resources which adds to the value too. If you're considering becoming a vegan or even just flirting with the idea, buy this book.
Amazing, informative and fun., 05 Nov 2007
This book is a wonderful guide for new Vegans, or soon to be Vegans, but I also think it would be great for long time Vegans.
It's well written and informative.......although not a book for people wanting information on the actual diet, this deals more with how to BE Vegan.
I loved this book it was great to read and fun. I also now listen to the authors Podcast. There's a link on their website.
Thanks Bob and Jenna for this wonderful book.
Good opener, 07 May 2007
I've been a vegetarian for about 20 years and i have been rethinking the reasons why i became a vegy. As time has gone by i have realised that i am not the 17 year old angry activist willing to burn down the nearest slaughter house anymore. This book has re opened my eyes and re fueled the fire within, i am now going through the 21 days without animal products, and i am finding it suprisingly easy (even with no cheese). The book has an obvious american slant but don't let that put you off. If you are toying with the idea of becoming a vegan or just want to discover how or why, then you could do a lot worse than buying this book.
An essential read for fence-sitters!, 05 Mar 2007
Straight-forward, plain talking, with plenty of practical advice, this book is a must-read for anyone thinking of going vegan, or newly vegan. It really helped me clarify my own thinking, and gave me useful strategies to deal with the daily practicalities of being vegan in a largely carnivorous world. Although many of the specific products mentioned are for the American market, the advice is invaluable, and the extensive referencing gives plenty of scope for further, more detailed personal research.
As a new vegan, I would have been lost without this book, but it has consolidated my resolve, and my belief that my choice has been the right one for me. I would also recommend this book if someone you know has just gone vegan, and you want to understand why.
Tofu power!
easily the best introduction to veganism/vegetarianism, 26 Sep 2006
This book is easily the best, although shortest, book I have read on vegetarianism (and I'd like to think I've read a lot!!). I was quite unsure about buying it, but I read lots of good reviews and as it turned out I couldn't put it down! On many many occasions I was caught laughing out loud, even to the extent of crying!! These authors are so funny :) . They put into words everything that I have felt, and experienced as a vegetarian and then vegan. It's definately the best way to sum up why anyone would be vegan, and how best to go about it too, I'm currently passing my copy around my friends! There are also loads of websites and recommended reading if you're interested further! A must-have if you're a veggie, vegan or know anyone who is!

Incredible book, 02 Feb 2008
This book is an amazing overview of the function of the liver, the symptoms of a bad liver and how a diet can help you to improve your liver function.
Reading it answered many questions i had about why i had been feeling certain ways throughout my life. I didnt really know what the liver did before i read this but you soon find out it is essential to look after it.
There are many reasons to read this book, not just losing weight, i recommend it to anyone interested in their own well being.
Something to consider, 26 May 2006
If you feel sick after ingesting foods that are not balanced then this is something to read for you. It will help you realize how much additives, preservatives, hormones, etc, is contained by the processed foods we eat.
The Liver-Cleansing Diet will help you adapt proper, healthy diet which not only will cleanse your liver, but it will also help you lose weight. Most importantly, it will add many years to your live. Not to be missed is another book that in addition to liver cleansing offers also treatments to cleanse your other organs (kidneys, intestines, blood, lymph, and more). The title is "Can We Live 150" and it is an absolute must for anyone concerned with healthy living and longevity.
This diet changed my life, 07 Jul 2003
I had to finish work about 18 months before trying this diet, because of poor health. Lots of visits to the doctor with no real help. Then I visited a friend who had been extremely ill with an auto immune disease and after talking to her and hearing how much she had benefited from the Liver Diet I decided to try it myself. I have lost over 2 stone in weight but even if I had not lost an ounce, it would be worth it. I feel absolutely marvellous, my health is great and I have not had so much energy for years. I have also bought Dr Cabot's The Healthy Liver and Bowel Book and find that after going on the 8 week diet the recipes in this are a good alternative and I now use the meals from this book to maintain my good health and to stabilise my weight.
Believe the hype, 01 May 2003
I don't normally review books but in this case I have to make an exception. My father was diagnosed recently of being in need of a heart bi-pass. He decided to take control of his health and started this diet. Two months later, he went back to the specialist and they decided that he didn't need the operation after all! Now my mother, sister and myself have done it. We all feel great! I can highly recommend this for general health as well as those that want to lose weight.
Great read & great feeling!, 25 Apr 2003
I found this to be fantastic..I have never had so much energy and I have changed my lifestyle accordingly since doing this diet. My skin looked great and I had more energy that I have ever had doing this diet. I have also read a couple other Sandra Cabot's books and found them all to be full of interesting and nutritional information. Would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to feel more alive!!

Erica White's Beat Candida Cookbook, 08 Jan 2006
Brilliant. Easy to follow, simple recipies that make you forget that it's a diet at all. Check out other books first, 19 Dec 2007

After having crippling pain and terrible constipation I really didnt know what to do. I went onto her Heathers website and she gave me tips on what to do immediately.. peppermint tea which worked so well and the other foods to take when you dont have no disire to eat anything as the uncomfortableness is so bad. The book arrived in two days and I feel so happy now the bloated ness has gone ... I had no idea about insoluble and soluble foods and thought I was eating a healthy diet... I was, but eating the wrong way. It's made an incredible difference to my whole attitide about food and my body .... thank you so much. Wish I had read the review before i bought the books as Healthy eating for Ibs and healthy cooking for Ibs are the same books ... different covers. Hope this helps someone. IBS, 26 Oct 2002
This book is good however if you live in the UK you will have to adapt the ingrediants as they are very american! The information on IBS is very good, it answers many questions that people have and I understand the disorder more now. A good read just a shame the ingrediants are not easy to get hold of! Revolutionary diets with imagination and inspiration -WOW!, 29 Jan 2001
"Eating for IBS"gives a new revolutionary diet for managing Irritable Bowel disease. It also has dietary advice for sufferers of Lactose Intolerance,Chrohns disease,Ulcerative colitis and other digestive disorders. The basic strategy is to develop "a new way of eating and "a new way to live".All the recipes have a nutritional analysis per serving of calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat.The food ingredients do tend to be "Americanised"but I`m sure can be found or adapted if necessary.I like the explanation of speciality ingredients- mirin and pepitas. Some of my favourite recipes are- Jamaican Chicken with ginger chutney,Strawberry daiquiris, sweet Cinnamon,Zucchini bread and Cloud lemon Angel food cake.Recipes include beverages, snacks, breakfasts, breads, main courses mainly with chicken and lovely desserts. One bonus is a sample weeks menu to try whilst making your mind up what else to try. It is a lovely book and the cover really says it all.It is a joy to use.The writer is a food writer specialising in recipes for people with bowel disorders. Thanks Heather
Excellent and very usefull book, 25 Jan 2001

Would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to feel more alive!! thank you Heather, 07 Nov 2007

Erica White's Beat Candida Cookbook, 08 Jan 2006
Brilliant. Easy to follow, simple recipies that make you forget that it's a diet at all.
Check out other books first, 19 Dec 2007
