Gordon Ramsay's Fast Food, 12 Aug 2008
Don't buy this book uness you're sure you like Gordon's style. As with most fast food stuff, it doesn't present a realistic timescale which can cover everything you need to put into a meal. I don't usually eat my carbo stuff separately from the rest, but find eg spuds are presented as a separate recipe. Most of the recipes need contstant attention to the main ingredients to get quick timing. Unless you're going for size 0 this is normal length cookery.
Great Tasting fast food, 28 May 2008
This is the book to turn to after a long day at work, but you want something tasty for dinner.Put away the takeaway menus, almost all the dishes in this book are quicker and tastier. Not to mention a whole lot better for you.Stock up with a few essentials, follow the recipies, and you can have great food on the table, and still have time to "play".
Excellent
Great book, 04 May 2008
I bought this book and received the Silverspoon as a gift.
I ended up making more from this one and sold the Silverspoon.
It's a great book. I tried many recipes and they are really tasty, easy to make (no exotic ingredients difficult to find as in others book) and overall quick. Believe me, I am italian and food must be tasty for me.
I went from starters to pudding and all was up to expectations. I recommend this book to anyone and will buy more from Gordon. He's is the n.1 in UK.
Buon appettito!
Fast Food, 02 Feb 2008
This is a great book with loads of recipes as featured in 'The F Word'. They are all easy to make and can be prepared and cooked in under 30 minutes, and the selected menu ideas can be put together in about 45 minutes. The recipes are easy to follow and are very clear, i've tried other book and got lost at times, but you get none of that with this book. The photography is great and really shows the food well. You occasionally get pictures of the food in it's pre and post cooked state so that you can see how it should look before and after and acts as a great guide. I've used this book (as well as Jamie Oliver's latest) to help me try some new recipes and to add some new ideas to my usual selection of meals I make on a routine basis. This is perfect for that goal, as each recipe is perfectly timed to get it prepared and cooked when i've got in from a busy day at work. The food tastes great as well, what more can you ask for? Well worth a try to expand your cooking skills and recipe knowledge.
Excellent book, 02 Feb 2008
I found the recipes easy to follow and the results are fabulous. There quite a lot of fish recipes in here which makes a pleasant change. Great stuff Gordon write some more books!

The only cook book you really need, 02 Sep 2008
All the reveiws can't be wrong....and they aren't. This simple book is truly fab. So many different recipes packed in between its pages. Easy to follow and lots of tips in addition to the recipes. It will now be the cornerstone of my kitchen.
The BEST cookery book EVER, 13 Aug 2008
I just received my new book (above title) and am positively drooling at the mouth.
The recipes seem extremely easy and very tasty and I cant wait to try it, especially the meal planner bit.
Extremely useful book, 23 Jul 2008
This is a great book for people who need to feed a family and are running low on inspiration. There are lots of dinner recipes in here (including a veggie section) and a selection of "quick fix meals" for when you are in a hurry. The book would be useful to a beginning cook because the recipes are very simple and not at all intimidating, but would also be useful to an experienced cook because of the sheer number of ideas. A more experienced cook could easily adapt the basic recipes with herbs and spices to make them a bit more sophisticated and exciting. I think this is a book that I'll be using a lot.
AMAZING, 26 May 2008
this is an incredibly good book for everyone; I'm a vegetarian but there were plenty of recipes for me anyway.
A very good buy which I highly recommend.
I can cook!!!, 22 May 2008
I have very little money, a tiny kitchen, a few saucepans (that have lost all their non-stick!) and no fancy gadgets, I don't even have a garlic press! So this book could have been written for my family. Its excellant, plenty of fantastic tips and no nonsence recipes that my boys loved and didn't leave behind a mountain of washing up!
This is great book for anyone who already loves cooking, but especially for those who think its easier to shove some turkey twizzlers in the oven!

excellent for fish & chicken, 04 Jun 2008
I recived this book as a present and have enjoyed using this for quick and easy fish dishes.
Also, unlike Real Fast Food there are good chicken dishes here particularyl of the curry and Moroccan variety.
The most used cookbook I own, 25 Apr 2008
I absolutely love this book and recommend it all my friends. The recipes are simpled and uncomplicated. The ingredients are easily sourced and the results are fantastic. I own a number of cook books - this is the one I enjoy cooking from the most. Its perfect for everyday cooking, nothing takes too long and the instructions are easy to follow.
Never Mind Delia's How to cheat, this is THE book for quick nutritious meals, 21 Feb 2008
This is the book for anyone who needs/wants a meal in a hurry. The idea is not to follow the recipies slavishly, but cook to your taste. Most dishes can be made @ 30 -35 minutes, which can be cut down if you follow the suggestions for storecupboard items. Also, note that there are no suggestions for frozen mashed potato, or any other supermarket brand ready "food",all are made using fresh ingredients.
Quick and Easy, 02 Oct 2007
Unlike one of the previous reviewers I haven't found any recipe in this book that takes more than 30 minutes, and I wouldn't say I was an especially acomplished cook.
This is a great book for working people. Most of the stuff you'll have in your cupboard and all most of the recipes need are the addition of a handful of fresh ingredients. Nigel Slater has an easy no-nonsense style and, apart from a few typos, the recipes are all easier to follow and give better results than Nigella or Delia.
Great to inspire when there's not much in to cook with, 01 May 2007
I loved this book. I had one of his other books, Real Fast Food and loved his writing style and you get a keen idea of his likes and dislikes. The recipes are simply written (I hate having to trawl through loads of text just to get to the point) and they work. Whilst I think his storecupboard ingredients are quite adventurous for most people (bearing in mind it was first published in 1996) these days it isn't too difficult to get them. I personally dislike spending hours in the kitchen only for the food to be wolfed down in less than 10 minutes, so if you are like me you will love this book.

Not overly impressed, 17 Aug 2008
I must say I was disappointed with this book. I thought it was going to be better. There isn't actually that many 'recipes' and what there is isn't too exciting anyway. My daughter likes one or two of them, but unfortunately it's just not a great book.
I, 22 May 2008
I was struggling to think up new finger food ideas for my 11 month old son. My sister watches my son 1 day a week and finds it hard to feed him and her 5 month old daughter at the same time. The recipes in this book allow her to feed her daughter and leave my son to feed himself. Although the book was written by a vegetarian, there are some meat recipes included. The vegetarian slant meant that there are some recipes with ingredients that I wouldn't have normally used (lentils, polenta).
The book is well laid out and beautifully illustrated. There is useful nutritional and storage information. I would say that the recipes are suitable for the older baby and there are still some recipes I won't be using until my son is a bit older.
There are "treat" recipes included and the blueberry muffins are great - a low sugar option and birthday treat for my son who loves blueberries!
Not very helpful, 09 May 2008
I did Baby-led weaning and found this book to be unhelpful for this approach. I thought as it was entitled finger foods for babies and toddlers it would be ideal. The book seemed to be geared more towards one year olds and up. I wouldn't recommend putting salt in any food for a child who was under one. I wasn't overly keen on most of the recipes anyway. I have to say it is sitting on the shelf unused.
Great ideas for finger foods, 05 Feb 2008
This book has lots of fantastic ideas on finger foods and quick meals at teatime. Which is great when you are in a hurry and want to prepare a quick healthy meal. Everyone I have bought this book for also thought it was great.
pretty much perfect for what I wanted, 31 Dec 2007
I'm really pleased with this book. The recipes all use items which I've heard of and are easily to get hold of, and don't involve spending the whole day preparing. My 20 month old also enjoys "helping" me make some of the more treat-like recipes, which goes a long way to pursuading her to eat occasionally. My favourite thing about the book however is that most if not all of them have a veggie alternative, which means we can cook one meal which everyone in the family will eat. I would say however that if you fancy yourself as a bit of a Delia in the kitchen it's not necessarily for you as simplicity seems to be the name of the game. For me however, a working Mum with good intentions, it's just great.

Product Description
Blink and there's another Ainsley Harriott book out, this incarnation is Low Fat Meals in Minutes. The target audience this time is the weight-watching home-maker, struggling to fit those healthy lifestyle changes into a busy schedule; and perhaps also keeping an eye on the kids' fat intake. You really have to hand it to Harriott: he's very good at what he does. Low Fat Meals in Minutes presents 80 fresh, interesting, tasty, low-fat recipes, none of which takes more than an hour to prepare and cook (and most a lot less), and each of which is accompanied by a clear colour photograph--so you know exactly what it's supposed to look like--and nutrition notes. What could be simpler or more encouraging? In the usual Harriott manner, inspiration ranges all over, with a preference for the flavours of Latin America, the Mediterranean and South-East Asia. So Prawn, Mushroom and Bean Sprout Noodles sits cheek-by-jowl with Jalapeno Tiger-Prawn Ginger Skewers; while not far away is Roast Lemon Bay-Scented Cod. Cajun and Jamaican jerk seasonings are also used to good effect, for example in the Louisiana Blue Cheese and Chicken Sandwich and Jamaican Jerk Chicken. Puddings are strong on fruit: a particularly happy invention is the "Live and Kicking" Lemon and Chilli Sorbet. A handy collection, therefore, of speedy, waistline-friendly recipe ideas, which might prove something of a primer in expanding culinary horizons. The drawback, for some, will be Harriott himself. You don't have to be a toffee-nosed Elizabeth-David-or-nothing purist to find his manner grating ("Slap 'em on the barbie" "Dee-lish!" "Wowee"). But he's nothing if not friendly. --Robin Davidson

Yummy chips , 22 Feb 2008
I love this book and the chips are to die for, I do them under the grill and they cook beautifully. All the food is easy to prepare and tasty.
Simmering, not sizzling, 15 Feb 2008
The recipes in this book were easy to make but sometimes using obscure ingredients (maybe just me, but I have never heard of wasabi paste; neither had anyone in my local Asda). The food itself is light and pleasant but not for someone, like me, who prefers more hearty food. Jamie Oliver's 'Jamie's Dinners' book is excellent for this. In summary, perfectly alright just a little fussy for me.
Fab and easy, 30 Nov 2007
Great cook book - every recipe is delicious and very easy to do, can't believe its so easy to produce healthy great food
A great book, 24 Sep 2007
Really delicious meals, lots of flavours and everything I've done has been really tasty. Some are a bit more time consuming than I was expecting, like the fishcakes, but they are well worth the effort.
Does what it says on the label., 01 Sep 2007
Simple to follow, easy to cook (even for me), tasty low fat meals. Have tried most of the recipes and haven't come across a bad one. Great for everyday meals.

Too many ingredients in some recipes. , 25 Aug 2008
I bought this book quite a while ago but have only recently got the cooking bug! A great variety of recipes, nicely separated into different chapters according to what eqipment you need to make them, e.g. one pan, 2 pans + grill, whole kitchen, etc.
A few complaints though, I would prefer some simpler recipes, needing fewer ingredients, so there is no need to buy things you would only use once or twice. Also, there are no pictures in this book, which I like to have so I know my food looks like it should, without having to rely on just the recipe instructions.
Quite good., 09 Jan 2008
A nice book, comforting to flick through and very mindful of students needs, but they are not so much recipes as suggestions and the tone of the book is a little condescending.
Toast in a Microwave......, 24 Jun 2007
This book is pretty ridiculous.
As a student myself I find it extremely condescending and at times quite dangerous. Certain recipes suggest microwaving bread for two minutes... which does not result in toast, but in flames, a burnt microwave and the whole of student halls being emptied out because the fire alarm went off.
Easy cooking, 27 Oct 2006
When I decided that it was time to forego frozen food and start cooking a bit myself - after living on my own for two years - this was one of the books I picked up. I'm not a gourmet chef. My dorm-room kitchen is definitely subpar when it comes to size and facilities. Yet, I managed to produce edible, and tasty, dishes with the help from this book.
Some of the recipes I tried were a failure - perhaps due to the fact that my Scandinavian palate wasn't accustomed to some of the more "exotic" British dishes? But the majority of them went down without a hitch, and I've found myself making the brown onion soup over and over - as it freezes and can be reheated quite easily.
My favourite part about this book, however, is actually the size of the recipes. A large number of them are meant for one, which I like, living on my own. But if I want to cook for friends, there are also several that are meant for more than one. :)
It's a pity that it is a paperback, as some of the pages of my copy came loose, from overuse. But that's the way it is.
Truly superb, 25 Sep 2006
***
This recipe book is a superb addition to anyone's culinary library - clearly not every recipe will suit every person but it is inconceivable that you would not find a significant number of useful recipes in here and even if you found just one nugget, then considering the price, it would be well worth it.
The variety of recipes in the 1000 series is simply staggering - to say you are stuck for choice is an understatement.
Ok, so there are no photographs but against that, the books don't cost a fortune either and they are compact.
You really cannot go wrong with any of these recipe books and when you consider they cost little more than 1 issue of pretty much any food magazine, well, they truly are an absolute bargain.
Buy this one, buy them all - you won't be disappointed.

My Mother in Law gave me this book for christmas as I was interested in the slimming world diet. What a fantastic book, just as it says 30 minute meals that are easy to to cook and taste delicious. As yet nothing has failed us, infact we have even tried recipes that we would not normally try. I have shown this to a few friends and thay love it and have also ordered it.
Easy to use slimming cook book, 12 Aug 2007
Bought this book and cooked several recipes from it, then bought a copy for my Mum too who also thinks it's great. If you're into Slimming World original and green days, then here is a great selection of quick and easy to make recipes which help you to keep on track. I haven't cooked a nasty tasting recipe yet - all have been quite delicious.

Enjoy entertaining, 04 Oct 2007
This takes the anxiety out of entertaining, knowing all the recipes are tried and true and you can relax and magically produce delicious food without apparent effort. Mary Berry is a must in every kitchen.
Fantastic Book, 29 Sep 2007
A friend lent me this book and I loved it so much I didn't want to give it back, so bought my own.
It has something for every occasion and everyone's tastes, simple to follow recipes and as the title says you can prepare in advance so you have more time to entertain your guests rather then being stuck in the kitchen, it also has some great easy vegetarian recipes.
I've never even looked at a Mary Berry Book before (always loved Delia) but shall certainly look at more of her books.
