Simply Stunning, 08 Jan 2009
It is easy to be short and to the point about this book.....it is simply stunning. That, unfortunately, is a cliche all too often used and abused...but not here. I own 2 horses and am a keen semi pro photographer, and thus was attracted to this book when I saw a review. No review can do it justice.....you have to experience the book, feel the book. I would love to spend a week with this guy , seeing how he achieved such light conditions

Truly Beautiful, 31 Dec 2008
This book is a true masterpiece that can be enjoyed by anyone, not just horse lovers. The photographs are just stunning, beautifully composed and with a simplicity that belies the talent of Tim Flach, the subjects are varied, detailed and they will stir something in the soul of everyone. It is extremely good value for the money and makes a wonderful affordable gift, especially for those who appreciate horse form. 5 stars and highly recommended.
Stunning!, 29 Dec 2008
Bought this for my daughter for Christmas and we both love it. Quite different to any other horse book and a beautiful one to own - can't recommend it enough!
Superb, 27 Dec 2008
I truly loved this book, the way the equine was portrayed so naturally and with the influence of man without him being here was magnificent. I often collect a variety of equine photography but this is most greatly one of the best I have come across
Superb interest blend of photography through horses, 23 Dec 2008
I saw a review of this book a month or so ago in the Daily Express and was delighted to find it available at a very reasonable price on Amazon, as a Christmas present for a friend. It arrived quickly and I unpacked it to look at it myself. It is an amazing book, of interest both to those who love horses, and those who appreciate the intricacies of excellent photography alike. For those who go ahead and purchase this book, it is worth noting that there are great little snippets of information alongside the thumbnail pictures towards the end of the book that refer to the full size photos within the book, so well worth keeping a thumb in at the back so you can read those notes while appreciating the pictures. I know my friend is going to love this book when she opens it on Christmas Day, and that other family members of hers will be equally impressed by it. Great value; great quality book. Love it!

This book was written with a true depth of emotion. It showed great love for a horse---a feeling I believe you can only experience if you have a horse of your own with a strong connection. When Lay Me Down was finally put to rest it brought tears to my eyes.
I would recommend this book to anyone with or without horses, it brings out the true feelings of love towards horses and what they can do for people.

I cannot rave about this book enough - it gives tips on training both young and older horses and goes through the basics of Parelli, Kelly Marks etc ... I found it invaluable for groundwork, and this has created a very special bond and respect between me and my horse. And Im glad I did as she's a 18hh 5 year old shire! It tells you all about gaining their respect and visa versa and I cannot stress enough how EVERY SINGLE RIDER/OWNER in the UK should have this book.
If you are having problems with your horse, having a crisis of confidence, or simply want to get that bond of trust and respect between you and your horse, then this is the book for you. ANY FORWARD THINKING RIDER/OWNER SHOULD BUY THIS BOOK.

Reading this book, made me smile from start to finish. It felt like the author was having a casual conversation with you, yet reawakening the intuitive part of the brain where we go for gut feeling. I loved his decriptions of his own horse buck! a bond many of use strive for. I was engrosed with the passion and compassion for Buck and the other horses. A light read but packed with feeling. Horses do Try to please us this book showed me humans need to Try to please too.

Excellent book that makes you rethink the way you interact evryday with your horse. Mark writes in a way that is easy to read and understand. This book gives you many real life ecounters of rider/horse situations that Mark has experienced in his life and the way he learnt to overcome any problems. Very thought provoking as well as an enjoyable read.

If I was a horse I would rate this with 5 stars., 15 Dec 2003
I could not put this book down. The thoughts and actions of Mark Rashid and how he interacts with horses just inspired me to completly alter the way I would like to be around my horse. The format was so easy to read yet you learn so much. Brilliant
Mark Rashid's Horses Never Lie, 26 Sep 2002
Wonderful! This is a necessity for all horse crazy people who really care about the way they care for, train, treat, and ride horses. Mark Rashid writes in a completely captivating manner and once you've started you wont want to put it down. He explains everything through short stories of his own experiences both good and bad and you really feel as though you are right there beside him, laughing and crying, it is breathtaking. This is definitely one to read for the equine enthusiast. You will possibly even recognise some of your own experiences through Mark's words and get an idea of how to put things right for yourself. I could not wait to read Mark's other two books.

Breathtaking..., 20 Apr 2008
I picked up this book as an "add on" to other biographical writing I was studying for a Creative Writing Course. During the course I didn't get chance to read it; I have seen and heard about Monty Roberts work and decided to read the book for pleasure.
It's an incredible story told simply and with great warmth. There are no pretensions - he just tells it how it is and is very generous with his description of his techniques and the highs and lows of his life's work. This is his (and his familys) story, his journey and his observations on this most noble of animals and their language. It's a mark of incredible generosity that he has put it down in words.
I have been brought up with horses and understood how you treat them with respect and care; in later life I have had very little contact with them. If I ever return to riding I shall approach it from a more gentle, more respectful perspective.
This is not good writing - it's great writing told with great humility and style. It is a privilege to have an insight into his life, passion and work; he comes across as he does in the interviews I have seen as an ordinary man with extraordinary insight, skills and judgement.
He is quite simply unique, as is this book.
Fantastic book, 08 Jan 2008
Not sure if it helps to be into horses but I loved this book. It's the first of the Monty Roberts books I have read and will now be getting the others. Hope they are just as good!
This man is fantastic!!, 26 Dec 2007
Monty Roberts is inspirational. I have admired his work for many years & since learning more about his methods he has helped change (invaluably for the better)the relationship I have with my own 'problem horse'. I could not put this book down. When you read his life story and learn how hard Monty has worked to get where he is today you`ll admire him even more! This book is essential reading for every horse owner/ lover.
Really enjoyed it!, 12 Jul 2007
I love horses anyway so i knew i would like this book before i even picked it up. I thought it was a fantastic read and i just couldn't put down!. I'm not normally into autobiographies but found this one was very well written. Rather than starting from when Monty was young until present day, he interjected other stories along the way top break it up e.g. the visit to the Queen.
The only reason i have rated 4 instead of 5 stars is because there were a couple of instances where i wasn't quite sure if what he was describing was true or poetic licence e.g. the fact his old teacher met up with him years later and remembered the assignment he had written on setting up a horse training facility. Seemed a little 'cheesy'.
On the whole however i really enjoyed it.
Fantastic and Amazing Read, 15 May 2005
I really enjoyed reading Man Who Listens to Horses, Monty Roberts' work is just amazing. I do not have my own horse but when I do I will know how to treat them better now and to understand them move. I could hardly put the book down as I just wanted to know what he done next. I highly recommend reading this book as it really is such a pleasure to read. I have also read 2 other Monty Roberts books - The Horses of my Life, and Shy boy, both are great also, hearing about his life with horses.

Mark writes in a way that is easy to read and understand. This book gives you many real life ecounters of rider/horse situations that Mark has experienced in his life and the way he learnt to overcome any problems. Very thought provoking as well as an enjoyable read.
horses never lir the heart of passive leadership, 01 Feb 2004
absolutely wonderful book couldnt put it down, explained lots of things i thought my stupid horse did which were not that stupid after all, a must for every horse owner, or someone wanting to understand their horse better.
Get Perfect Confidence in Everything You Do!, 15 Nov 2007
Another outstanding book from Kelly Marks. Every horse handler needs Perfect Manners and Perfect Partners is the next step in building that special relationship with your horse. Now Perfect Confidence completes the Perfect trilogy.
This time Kelly excels herself by showing us how to improve our self esteem and capability, whilst enabling us to set and achieve realistic goals. And if that isn't enough, the book does it in a fun, interactive and easily readable way.
As you would expect there are lots of superb photographs of Kelly's former problem pony, American Pie and some rather unexpected, particulary touching contributions from Kelly's mentor, Monty Roberts, as well as from Kelly's major influence, her father, race horse trainer Douglas Marks, who sadly died before the book went to print.
When you've read it, you can look forward to seeing a different world as things change around you, especially if that world involves a horse.
Not confined to horses, 15 Nov 2007
.... or to actual problems with confidence, this book is excellent for self awareness and facilitating realistic goal setting in all walks of life. Kelly comes across as a "real" person who is humanitarian as well as having a passion for equines. A common sense approach that less than perfect can still be OK.
Purely Perfect, 15 Nov 2007

Confidence, 17 Oct 2007
Having a young horse, and getting older it is difficult to be as confident as I once was!! Couple of falls later confidence was at an all time low. Had bought a different book of Kelly's and it was only ok. But this is very good, helpful without being insulting, and good exercises, actually jumped a very small course today on my mare and haven't jumped for months!

Nothing compares
Love it!
Chosen By a Horse, 29 Jun 2008
This book was written with a true depth of emotion. It showed great love for a horse---a feeling I believe you can only experience if you have a horse of your own with a strong connection. When Lay Me Down was finally put to rest it brought tears to my eyes.
I would recommend this book to anyone with or without horses, it brings out the true feelings of love towards horses and what they can do for people.
Beautifully written , 08 Apr 2008
This is one of the best books I've ever read and the only book ever to make me cry!
It was like reading a diary that you had no right to be reading.

A MUST READ FOR ALL ANIMAL OWNERS, 06 May 2007
What a moving book this was to read and fun too, couldn,t put it down.at times i felt that i was part of this woman and horse's journey together, having my own horse and a horse healer myself. there was tears and laughter while reading this book. the chapter of the foal with it's first encounter with the wheelbarrow made me chuckle to myself and thought how true that can be.cried and sobbed too.wont spoil why though, you must read the book to find out why!
For any horse lover out there!, 29 Jan 2007
What a beautifully written and heartfelt book - I can't recommend it highly enough for anyone who has ever owned a horse, or who just loves horses. Written with such emotion that I couldn't put it down and read it in just one day. Terrific!! You have to read it - you won't be sorry.
Fantastic Book! Buy it!, 01 Sep 2006

A must read!, 08 May 2008

Simply Stunning, 08 Jan 2009
It is easy to be short and to the point about this book.....it is simply stunning. That, unfortunately, is a cliche all too often used and abused...but not here. I own 2 horses and am a keen semi pro photographer, and thus was attracted to this book when I saw a review. No review can do it justice.....you have to experience the book, feel the book. I would love to spend a week with this guy , seeing how he achieved such light conditions
Nothing compares
Couldn't put it down..a truly great read.
Worthy Title, 26 Jun 2008
Reading this book, made me smile from start to finish. It felt like the author was having a casual conversation with you, yet reawakening the intuitive part of the brain where we go for gut feeling. I loved his decriptions of his own horse buck! a bond many of use strive for. I was engrosed with the passion and compassion for Buck and the other horses. A light read but packed with feeling. Horses do Try to please us this book showed me humans need to Try to please too.
Horses Never Lie, 22 Jan 2005
Excellent book that makes you rethink the way you interact evryday with your horse. Mark writes in a way that is easy to read and understand. This book gives you many real life ecounters of rider/horse situations that Mark has experienced in his life and the way he learnt to overcome any problems. Very thought provoking as well as an enjoyable read.
horses never lir the heart of passive leadership, 01 Feb 2004
absolutely wonderful book couldnt put it down, explained lots of things i thought my stupid horse did which were not that stupid after all, a must for every horse owner, or someone wanting to understand their horse better.
An absolutely fantastic, special piece of literature from a really talented lady.
Definately recommended to everyone - those horsey, those not, those with confidence issuses, those without. Everyone can learn something and enjoy this book.

long winded, 10 May 2008
This too makes a lovely reading book BUT its not easy to use, mixing facts with anacdotes, poetry, quotes from philosophers -slightly jumbled
I found it very frustrating.
Full credit to anyone who spreads the word about this fantastic technique though.
Fantastic, 27 Nov 2006
A super book that guides you through getting a better relationship with your horse. If you want to communicate with your horse this is the book for you. The exercises are great and the case studies really benefical
Perfect Manners, 15 Sep 2005
An excellent book. Once you start the first page, you are hooked. A fascinating insight and understanding of how your horse thinks and how your own actions have such an effect on your relationship. Uncomplicated, well illustrated. If you love horses, this book is a must.
The best book detailing modern horse training methods, 03 May 2004
Kelly Marks is an extraordinary horsewoman. She communicates simply, succinctly and with a sense of humour, how to set about training your horse. I have followed the methodology she has proposed and find that it illuminates an otherwise treacherously dim path. I could not recommend a better book anywhere. I've worn mine out completely.
Fantastic, 13 Jan 2004
A fantastic book that is a good length with plenty of pics, gives you lots to think about and is realistic
