A Good Guide to British Stamps, 22 Nov 2008
As always, this guide is clearly laid out, and shows pictures of most of the issues since 1840. The only downside is that the values generally tend to be over inflated, and the stamps can be bought much cheaper at other locations. Overall, it's a good reference guide, and gives a rough indication of prices.

Very Informative, 10 Nov 2007
Highly recommend this book, packed full of useful data about Silver Hall marks along with the history of Hallmarks.Clear and comprehensive. An ideal purchase for collectors of Silver.
Great guide to silver, 21 Apr 2005
If you need to know anything about silver hallmanks then this is the book for you. Only just received book but flicking through tells you in plain English what is collectable what marks to look for. Great communication from the seller I will deffinately be looking out for other titles.
Highly Recommended, 12 Sep 2003
An absolute must for any collector from dealers to the novice interested in silverware. This book is laid out in very easy to use format making hallmark reference somewhat idiot proof and includes invaluable information on Makers and their marks. The only downside of this book is that, whilst it covers a good few centuries, hallmarks for the last 12 years are not shown (only relevant for those interested in modern pieces).

this collection or memory is amazing it has incredible art and so much information that it is so worth keeping forever
Very good but it is a little fragile, 23 Apr 2008
This book really is a joy. Every Marvelite who gets one will love it. It contains lots of stuff that old time fans will possibly already know about but this is the first time I have seem so many photos of Marvel and Timely staff members in one book. This book is as much about the company as it is the characters and is all the better for that. I love all the reproduction pencil sketches, stamps and cards etc they are very realistic replicas. As a Brit we never really got chance to see any of those things in real life so to actually hold them in my hand is a bit of a thrill. I feel this book will mostly appeal to older comic fans between the ages of 30 and 50 looking for a bit of nostalgia rather than small boys or young fans of superhero films and cartoons. I would go so far as to say that this book is actually due to the ring binding to fragile to handle for any child under 10 (it needs to be handled with a lot of care and only opened on a flat surface. Because of this I almost dropped a star in my rating and I would have given this book four stars. Since it has been discounted so heavily by Amazon though (at the time of writing this) It now has to in my opinion have the full five.
Excellent gift for a Marvel Fan, 11 Jan 2008
I bought this for my husband as a gift and he loves it. I am not really into the whole Marvel thing myself, but found myself interested enough to read it from cover to cover. Excellent and a great price on Amazon.
Marvel Vault - Fantastic but flawed, 02 Nov 2007
I agree in what has already been written about how good the book is. However, there is a major flaw in the book that needs pointing out. The pages are held in place by a metal ring binding. Even with careful use the pages are going to pull againt this binding and are going to tear and fall out. I could already see slight wear after looking through the book once - Be warned especally considering the price.
Like opening a Marvel time capsule, 26 Sep 2007
Roy Thomas and Peter Sanderson have gathered together in this book not only a history of Marvel from Marvel Comics # 1 (1939) up to 2006, which is impressive enough but a whole host of extras from Marvel's past make it a superb collector's item.
From reproductions of sketches of Marvel's WW2 heroes, especially the Sub-Mariner, Marvel's longest lasting continual character, the original Torch being an android. There's a reproduction MMMS membership card (I was a member of FOOM in the 1970's), the no-prize book, Marvel value stamps and many more items, it's a nostalgics dream. There are also truly personal items like Bill Everett's postcards.
Marvel fans are an intrinsic part of the Marvel extended family and although like most families, there are the odd breakdowns by and large Marvel has kept a large and loyal fan-base. It does not gloss over the collapse of Marvel and the comic industry in the 1990's due to corporate over-reach (greed) and the eventual rebirth, through to Heroes Reborn, and the recent spate of blockbuster movies.
Reading through it the names of the people who made Marvel great, Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Roy Thomas himself, John Buscema, John Romita and countless others appear and invoke great memories. I was a Marvelite in the 1970's and 1980's and am now catching up on both the stories I read first time round and many I missed out on. This book is full of absolutely wonderful art reproductions that cover almost 70 years and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone, 'nuff said.

Coin of the Realm, 04 May 2008
Well presented, good value and well worth the purchase. Unlike some books on the subject it's not stuffy, pretentious or academically challenged. Give it a try. I believe the author does a good book on Roman coins as well e-books.
Collectors' Coins Great Britain 2008 (with free coin), 05 Nov 2007
A fantastic coffee table reference book,in an excellent size. All you need to know about British coinage for the last 200 years. It is in an easy to understand format for expert or beginner.Highly recommended.
Collectors' Coins Great Britain 2007, 06 Oct 2007
Fantastic book.Tells you everything you could possibly want to know about GB coins whether new to the hobby or an old hand.Very clear and precise pictures and descriptions.Am looking forward to publication of the new 2008 edition next week.Don't waste money on inferior publications this is all you need!
Excellent Information, 30 Aug 2007
I can only agree with the previous reviewer. The book fills a gap in the market as far as British coins are concerned. Many of the books on the subject are extremely short of both information and also adequate identification tools, be they drawings or photographs.
This book tells you virtually everything you need to know on the subject. It also gives you the values for coins in their different states of preservation, something the new collector does not always grasp. As with most things, both old and new, condition is everything. There are literally thousands of relatively old coins that can be purchased quite cheaply and that is simply because of their poor condition.
The book is a must for every collector and could save you quite a bit of money in the long run through making the wrong purchases.
A find of rare quality, 10 May 2007
In my opinion, a must have reference book for both experienced and amateur collector's. Covering the values of British coins from 1797 in ascending order of face value, saving a great deal of time and frustration when trying to evaluate a series of coins covering more than one Monarch. The addition of the coin denomination at the top of each page adds to ease of use. A great deal of well researched information is given throughout, very useful when trying to identify grades and rarity. Of added interest is the information given on mintage, size, weight and metal with full colour imaging throughout.
In my experience of coin collecting (spanning over 50 years) this book is like a breath of fresh air. A marvelous companion when attending auctions or coin fairs due to it's handy size. The information contained within this book makes it worthy of a space on any coin collector's shelf.
I would highly recommend this book. F. McKernan (independent numismatist).

EVERYTHING you wanted to know about Star Wars (and probably more than you need to), 23 Sep 2007
As I already own a lot of Star Wars books it now takes something pretty special to entice me to purchase something new - most SW-related topics have been exhaustively covered & even though I never thought I'd say it - I'm pretty much "all-Star-Wars'ed-out". That said, this "ultimate" edition looked a pretty neat addition to my collection and at around £10 looked good-value-for-money. What with it also being a DK release ,you always know you will get a quality product. Whether it be a travel book, film/tv tie-in or kids book - they're a quality publisher.
This particular book is a total study of EVERYTHING Star Wars, from the history of the universe, the events featured in the 6 films, the expanded universe (books, comics, games, etc) behind-the-scenes stuff & also pages dedictaed to the fans, the toys, it's success, etc. I'd find it hard to lay out the sheer volume of info contained in this book but Ryder Windham does so extremely well. It's beautifully laid out, full of great pictures, sketches & photo's and the accompanying text will be of interest whether you're a young fan or die-hard geek.
I wasn't sure whether to award the book 4 or 5 Stars simply because it's a topic that's so dear to my heart but eventually decided that you simply couldn't cram more into 160 pages for a RRP £15 & gave it top marks. Great purchase for any young fan or to simply add to the collection.
6-year-old's dream book!, 21 Aug 2007
My 6-year-old son loves this book, pouring over it for hours on end and memorising facts and figures, story-line nuances, etc. I thoroughly recommend it!

Basically the same as Collect British Stamps, but with more realistic prices, 24 Oct 2008
This is a very useful guide which gives you up to date MARKET prices, not SG's over inflated prices. So in that respect, a very good purchase. The only downside I've found so far is the lack of pictures of the issues so it's unless you knew the stamp it was refering to, you might have to refer to Collect British Stamps. On the whole though, very good.

The only downside of this book is that, whilst it covers a good few centuries, hallmarks for the last 12 years are not shown (only relevant for those interested in modern pieces).
amazing, 18 Sep 2008
this collection or memory is amazing it has incredible art and so much information that it is so worth keeping forever

Bushido: Legacies Of The Japanese Tattoo, 13 Jan 2008
This was a fantastic book, with some very interesting viewpoints and information. I found the relationship between the samurai honour system and traditional japanese tattooing particularly intreguing, and the photography and sketches provided a great insight to the visual elements described in this book. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to know a bit more!
Stunning, 08 Jul 2007
An excellent resource, full of the very best, older-style Japanese tattoos. Loads of colour photographs, excellent, informative texts.
Bushido Legacies Of The Japanese Tattoo, 11 Aug 2002
An all round excellent book with many fine pictures, and lots of interesting and well wrote information on the history and origins of janpanese tattooing. Well worth the asking price.

A delight to own and read, 15 Jan 2008
I am reading this cover to cover, as there is a wealth of useful and fascinating information in a very well presented hardback, with excellent photography. A must for watch lovers!
THE SWEET SMELL OF NEW KICKS, 06 Feb 2006
Cracking little book, well designed with great photography to drool over. Only one small point, not enough type on collectors and collecting.Other than that worth double. CLASSY.

The only downside of this book is that, whilst it covers a good few centuries, hallmarks for the last 12 years are not shown (only relevant for those interested in modern pieces).
amazing, 18 Sep 2008
this collection or memory is amazing it has incredible art and so much information that it is so worth keeping forever
I would go so far as to say that | | |
