Watch out! Same book under different title!, 19 Oct 2008
Handmade Baskets (Paperback) by Susie Vaughan is a must have book, but watch out, it is the same book as 'Handmade Baskets from nature's colourful materials' (Paperback) by Susie Vaughan, also published by Search Press Ltd - Look at them both on the Look Inside facility.
Buy one or the other, but not both.

Happy basketmaking!
makes the whole process simple and "doable", 05 Sep 2008
inspires you to give it a go and very good explaination and digrams. With this book and a pair of secateurs, youll be able to make baskets. Its written with the total novice in mind and shows that you can collect all the materials for free from hedgerows and gardens. Discussion of the relative merits of various weaving woods and various techniques too.
Straightforward instructions to make beautiful baskets, 30 Oct 2005
I have seen books on basket making before, and they have been difficult to follow and uninspiring. Susie Vaughan's baskets are beautiful and interesting, as she carefully picks her materials to make decorative as well as practical containers. The instructions are all illustrated with clear photographs of real baskets, and I find this so much easier to follow than sketches. A great book, you'll be inspired!
Making use of nature's bounty., 08 Aug 1999
Having just started basket making, I was lent this book, and it has encouraged me to prune my plants more often, especially with an eye to using the materials in making a basket. This adds a twofold interest to your gardening and walks along country lanes. If you have never made a basket do read this easy guide and have a "go"

Not what I expected, 10 Jul 2008
Very thin book (almost a pamphlet) on reed/rafia type weaving, which assumes access to pre prepared materials. One or two patterns, but not what I was looking for. I was hoping for some traditional, rural, robust wicker baskets in the English style.
Probably excellent if it's what you are looking for!

Probably excellent if it's what you are looking for! All You Need to Learn to Coil, 14 Feb 2006
This is an absolutely wonderful book that does exactly what it says: You will be able to complete a basket the first time you sit down to make one. I learned everything I needed to know about pine needle coiling from this book, and have made over 50 beautiful baskets in the last two years. The instructions and illustrations in this book are so good, and easy to learn from, I have only needed to reference it a couple of times since making the first two or three baskets. The basics are taught so well, providing such a solid technique, I have been able to easily branch out to difficult projects. The book does provide information on more advanced techniques and complex baskets, but I have been able to expand my skills just with the basic information. Pine Needle Basketry also has multitudes of beautiful photographs. I believe the instructions in this book are easy enough even for kids to learn from. Judy Mallow is a true artist, and her book is a wonderful teacher. J.H. Sweet, author of The Fairy Chronicles
Good beginners book, detailed instructions and illustrations, 17 Jun 1998
This book is well written and illustrated. It provides the beginner with detailed instructions and supply lists. The line illustrations for the techniques are clear and easily followed. I especially liked the color pictures of the more advanced projects. They gave me a jumping off point to start from. The only thing I would suggest to improve the book is instead of a listing of the various genus of pines, provide color pictures of the various species to assist neophytes in locating the correct type of needle to work with.
