Good book, if slightly flawed.., 17 Mar 2008
Just received the book and built the first model (paper plane launcher).
The CAD instructions aren't as good as genuine lego - at the end of the model there were a couple of things that weren't connected properly which meant some improvisation on my part. Also had to bodge it a bit in places because I didn't have all the parts needed as per their spec. But I guess that's part of what the book aims to encourage so I shouldn't complain too much!!
As per the other reviewer's comments though it really does send the mind racing to new and unexplored possibilities.
Oh, and the PPL was an instant hit with my 4 and 1 year olds once built - hours of fun launching planes all over the place in a way that my one year old in particular would never have managed on her own if you'd tried to get her to do it manually. Fun for all the family :) Looking forward to building the other models and more inventions of my own...
This will set your mind racing, 29 Oct 2007
Excellent book, but! If you are looking for some really cool stuff to make then perhaps you'll be disappointed, there are only a few models detailed but they are covered very comprehensively. The book will set your mind racing at the possibilities LEGO provides and perhaps that is the whole point, a good buy though.

Art Attack, 20 May 2003
Is the best book for the children's creativity. It's great. Well done Neil.
great art attack stuff; fantastic - plenty to do and fun, too, 25 Jan 2002
I bought this book for my son and he promptly broke his leg after I'd ordered it. I don't know how we'd have passed the time if it hadn't been for this book. It's good fun, well explained (in pictures that help younger kids, too) and the things you make are inexpensive. I highly recommend it
A very inspirational resource for both teacher and student, 03 Feb 2000
As a visual arts teacher in Queensland State Schools, it can be difficult to find original and motivating, worthwhile and achievable tasks for learners. All of the ART ATTACK resources allow the children to achieve those outcomes set by our curriculum while enjoying, motivating and promoting art. The children find Neil a most enjoyable and enthusiastic presenter. He has a gift for what he does and he certainly relieves the pressure from teachers.THANK YOU NEIL! YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER!
excellent and very creative, 11 Sep 1999
This book was easy to follow for me and my children and kept them out of mischief during the summer holidays - strongly recommend
An excellent book full of creative and fun ideas !, 11 May 1999
This is a really creative and imaginative resource, kids of all ages (including some well past their prime !!!)have tremendous fun making the "Horror Hangers" and "Ancient Masks". Part of the enjoyment is that the book stimulates them to think up new ideas of their own... Invaluable for rainy days, long school holidays etc. etc. etc. as well as wonderful inspiration for art teachers who are fresh out of ideas !

Quentin Blake did it again, 10 Oct 2003
As a follower of Quentin Blake as a illustrator and author (I believe that Clown is a moving and funny story in images) I bought this book as a tool to teach my kids in a funny way how to appreciate fine art. The story is simple and even for someone whose mother language is not english, easy to follow. The art selected is also, at least for me not very well known, but an excellent selection, from different styles and periods. Very interesting as a teaching tool.
Child's book of children's and classic art, 19 Dec 2001
Excellent book to expose children to pictures they may have seen in picture books they own, and to paintings from the National Gallery. One picture for each letter from A to Z. Running dialogue of speculative questions to engage the child in the action and meaning of each picture/painting.
Every picture tells a story!, 10 Jul 2001
Quentin Blake and the National Gallery have combined to inspire children to read art works in an innovative way, which encourages children to look at pictures and tell stories. As a primary school teacher and art co-ordinator, this book has provided exciting stimulus in literacy hour, extended writing and art. It excites the children and makes them look at pictures in a different way, using their own imaginations to create a rich tapestry of words and ideas; and as they become familiar with the different works they want to learn more about the artists. Truly inspirational!

I bought this for my 12 year old daughter who loves the Japanese cute style. She took it and immediately made a little rabbit from it with no help from me, and then went off on a walk with a camera and took some pictures of the little rabbit having fun in the neighbourhood. This is what kids are supposed to be doing! The book is easy to use and fun. If you have sewing supplies and some felt in the house, you could not see your kids for hours!

This is a lovely book with lots of easy cute things to make but also gives hours of enjoyment just looking at the pictures. I would buy every book they have written if you are a fan of all things cute

Double Pointed Needles Needed, 30 Dec 2008
I am beginning to knit again after many years away from it. I thought I would try my hand at finger puppets for my grandchildren. Boy was I wrong. These puppets are too tiny for my beginning status. I was thinking they would be something simple but they have several color changes and are worked in the "round" with double pointed needles.
This would be a good book for a very advanced knitter. If you have made socks or done any other work in the "round" with double pointed needles, then you will have a grasp of what is needed to create these cute puppets.
The directions are not overly complicated to read IF you know the abbreviations and how to work each type of stitch. Do you know what ssk means? It is a left slant: slip, slip, knit. Even reading the directions, I didn't get how to do this stitch. There is a section on "how-to" but most of it goes over my head. The patterns are also skill rated but even the ones marked as easy are still worked in the round, rather than worked flat and sewn together.
There are over 30 different puppets to knit and they would make great gifts for children. These are especially nice when a child needs to be entertained quietly and without electrical power! Just make sure your skills match the difficulty level.

User friendly, 30 Jul 2008
If you have sewing supplies and some felt in the house, you could not see your kids for hours! unbearably cute, 19 Jul 2008
This is a lovely book with lots of easy cute things to make but also gives hours of enjoyment just looking at the pictures. I would buy every book they have written if you are a fan of all things cute cute indeed, 22 Jul 2007
for what it is, it's great. simple instructions to make small toys and lots of nice pictures. very cute and funny. excellent, 03 Sep 2008
I firmly believe that all childrens art should be sustainable and incorporate recycled materials where possible. to this end i gave the book as a gift to family and it kept them entertained all summer. It keeps costs down and when funds are low these projects are a great way to spend some family time Excellent resource for many fascinating projects., 07 Oct 1998
This book is filled with explicit instructions on many facinating projects. It is clear, concise and easy to understand. Excellent resource for children and teachers. Practical instruction and insightful comments-Super!!!!, 28 Apr 1998
Laurie, I just finished this book and I really appreciated it. My daughter is soon to be three and I have been wanting to learn more about environmentally friendly ways to teach her about life and our world. This is a super resource for me. Thank you so much!!
Fantastic!, 28 Nov 2008
this book is absolutely BRILLIANT! I bought this for my 8 year old daughter. She has made some beautiful pieces of fimo and learned lots of new techniques.

oooooh, the pictures in this book are gorgeous, inspirational. The photography just brings the book to life. It really sets it apart from so many others. Lots of projects and a story too - in rhyme. You really will adore this book if you love whimsy dragons, fairies, elves, snakes, flowers, butterflies, etc.
Lots of colour mixing, tips, what to make with leftovers.
My children love this book - but its mine! It's just sooo lovely. Even more superb characters to make inside the book, 11 Jul 2003
The characters inside this book are beautiful. You think the characters on the front cover are cute you wait until you see inside there are even more. Animals, teddy bears, pixies and reptiles all with very easy step by step instructions on how to make them. Each instruction is accompanied by a photo so you can see exactly what you are supposed to be making. Book starts with how to handle polymer clay. Then how to make basic shapes, how to use the basic shapes to make the characters, how to mix new colours and how to bake your characters including how to support them so they don't sag when they are in the oven. I expected the characters on the front cover to be the best ones in the book but the ones inside are just as cute. An excellent book and one I would highly recommend.

I highly recommend it A very inspirational resource for both teacher and student, 03 Feb 2000
This book was easy to follow for me and my children and kept them out of mischief during the summer holidays - strongly recommend An excellent book full of creative and fun ideas !, 11 May 1999
This is a really creative and imaginative resource, kids of all ages (including some well past their prime !!!)have tremendous fun making the "Horror Hangers" and "Ancient Masks".
NOT suitable for kids!, 24 Oct 2007
My son is mad keen on LEGO and so I naturally thought that this book was going to be perfect for him. Wrong! This book is only suitable for "grown up kids" i.e. adults. The few pictures that you find in the book are in black and white and the type face is very plain.
Best keep your money for the "Official" LEGO products.
Fantastic book for master builders in the making, 01 Nov 2005
I've visited Lego Land several times and am constantly impressed by the creativity of the models on display, and have always come away wondering how I could go about designing a model from scratch like the professional builders do. The LEGO Builders Guide gives you a step by step guide from starting at the very beginning with choosing your subject, planning using handy templates, building techniques, and presentation. This book will help you - Build super size models - Build micro scale models - Build Lego Mosaics - Build Building and people at Mini-Land scale - Build Geometric shapes (e.g. Lego sphere) - Organise you Lego bricks I purchased this book with one specific project in mind, but reading it has given me a hundred more ideas Great Lego Book and a very good price!

I expected the characters on the front cover to be the best ones in the book but the ones inside are just as cute. An excellent book and one I would highly recommend.
Love this lots, 24 Oct 2008
Pretty pictures and cute ideas. The projects are fun and mostly aimed at older children but I can see a few bits to do, even with my 4 year old. And you wouldn't mind the finished pieces appearing in your home!

I found this book really inspiring for my art work, it has many different techniques for you to learn as well as the images, as the books states its all about nature, although you can apply these methods within other forms of journal/book making ideas, i own quite a few collage based books now, and i find this one is definitely one of my favorites!
