I've picked up a number of books on framing recently as I'm hoping to use bespoke framing to supplement my photography business. I found this one particularly useful, for two main reasons; it's up-to-date and it's written by a British author for a British audience. Not that I have anything against our American cousins, but it makes a very pleasant change to have a framing book use local terminology and link to local suppliers. It's not particularly in-depth, rather giving a fairly high-level view of quite a few aspects, but I learned something from every page.

Beautifully written and illustrated. A pleasure to read with loads of tips from someone who clearly takes enormous pride in their work. Covers framing from basics to more professional tooling - you couldn't ask for more - and all from a British point of view.

Feel a bit fed up about this purchase. The photographs are mostly in black and white and hopelessly outdated. There are a stupid number of useless photgraphs, that don't seem to have a point (making it confusing and time consuming to wade through) all are from the 1970's, and they're so dark and unclear, it's difficult to see what it is that you're meant to be looking at.
I am pretty sure (from researching on the net) that there are tools and equipment used for framing now that don't get a mention in this book....which is a bit of a shame for me because it was these things that I was looking to find out more about. If you're serious about attempting framing yourself, I think you're better off with something more recent or going on a course. I am utterly uninspired.
I'm so glad I found this one., 13 Mar 2001
This is a very comprehensive book. It has more ways to join a frame than I knew which equips you with being able to deal with all kinds and sizes of jobs. Similarly comprehenive in matting and mounting and many other techniques, how to deal with a wide variety of things to frame including fabrics and objects. This isn't just a few ideas put toghether to sell a book, this is a life experience given away. A very good and useful book.
This book contains everything I wanted to know!, 10 Aug 1999
Ken Oberrecht not only gives good clear instructions on the how to's of framing but also what tools and supplies you will need and where to find them. I hit gold of the first try. Thanks Mr. Oberrecht and Amazon.com. Grace M.
Great resource for a beginner., 25 Jan 1999
This book gives the reader a lot of good information so they can start framing their own art work with little or no prior experience. The author gives lots of specific examples of tools and materials. He tells you where to get them and which ones work the best.

A very inspiring well planned and wriiten book, 13 Mar 2001
I own a number of framing books and have also seen others in book shops and libraries. This is my favourite of all. I find it very inspiring, it makes me want to create some frames and put them up in my living room whether I find something to put in them or not. It does not contain the tiresome waffle that so many books try to fill themselves with. What it does say is very clear and makes understanding of the how-to-do easier. The pictographical complimentation to the text is a master coreographpy making need for text more economic. This ergonomic and graphically beautiful book is one for both amateur and professional framer to keep on the coffe table, to brose through over and over. This gives you the craft side of framing you need to compliment and diversify away from from basic joinery of mass manuractured mouldings and techniques.
