Brilliant!, 07 Jan 2009
This book just arrived this morning and I can't put it down! I love the idea for making slippers for guests - I have hard floors and so it always feels unreasonable to ask guests to take off their shoes but now I will be able to offer slippers for them to wear.
This book will offer lots of new stimulating patterns/ideas for the experienced sewer (I was worried that I may have similar patterns in other books) as well as guiding the beginner. The photo's offer loads of inspiration too!
This book is perfect for gift ideas as well as making over rooms to turn a house into a home. Another great feature is that the patterns are full size. Only a couple need to be enlarged which is easily done with a photocopier.
Beautiful!, 26 Oct 2008
I ordered this book after already having the christmas addition but this one is certainly the best from the collection.
The ideas are inspiring and the photogrophy is gorgeous. I love it. Ive made a few items and the instructions are clear and straightforward.
Highly Recommended.
A real feast...but beware beginners!, 17 Oct 2008
Definitively a truly inspiring book, I have had the book for 3 weeks already made 2 projects out of it...but not quite for beginners as there are not many details provided for each project. Also, for the second project I had to make adjustments as the pattern provided (jumper for the teddy was just never going to fit!)was just not quite right.
Nevetheless, it made me sew again after a 5 year gap...
..., 21 Sep 2008
Best book bought for a long time...., 14 Sep 2008
The moment i received this book i could barely put it down for days, beautiful pictures and easy to follow, all the projects are items you would want to make! Have already tried two projects from the book and have not been disappointed with the result.

Refreshing!, 19 Dec 2008
Most books of this nature are targeted at either the beginner covering just the basics or they are quite advanced with complex patterns that require competent understanding. This book is great because it's a complete course in crochet! It assumes you are a beginner so it takes you through the basics and then gradually takes you through intermediate and more advanced patterns. I've known how to knit since I was a child but I've never tried crochet - it's a completely different craft and this book has been invaluable!
The book is modern, accessible and most importantly, easy to follow!! It's quite substantial and gives you a broad range of fashionable patterns to try out ranging from little projects (brooches, scarves, small bags ) to bigger ones (shrugs, sweaters, blankets). Start with one of the little projects - this book is great value and is sure to get you crocheting in no time! :)
Crochet Queen!, 17 Nov 2008
This was my first attempt at crocheting and I'm definately not a natural (took me a long time to pick it up and I'm still not great) but this book is excellent, the illustrations and descriptions are really clear. The designs are brilliant and really gave me the motivation to carry on with it (even when I was making a complete hash of it!) Would definately recommend this book to anyone wanting to take up the craft!
The Best!!, 08 Oct 2008
If you want to start crochet then this is the book to get. Every step explained clearly, instructions are simple yet comprehensive. Nothing boring though, as the writer's got a great sense of humour ! Also nice projects to practice your new skills
BRILLIANT!!!, 30 Jul 2008
I bought this after a recommendation from a friend. I had never ever crocheted before in my life and from buying the book on a thursday I was creating my first grannie square by tuesday.
If you read through the instructions slowly, you will soon pick up the knack of this fantastic craft - Im about to start the pattern for a flower scarf (only a week ago I thought Id never understand all the lingo and the diagrams, but again, Debbie makes it very easy to pick it all up).
Im totally obsessed by it now and would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn from the beginning.
One thing - if you read a paragraph and dont totally understand it, re-read it and just take your time with the detail and it soon falls into place and starts to make sense.
Great for beginners, 04 Jun 2008
This is a terrific book for beginners, Debbie goes through all the basics in a easy and inspiring way. Some books presume that you already know which way to insert the hook, or pull through etc. Debbie takes you through all that like it's a piece of cake! I absolutley loved the book and still use it as a reference guide. Viva le DIY!

Very old fashioned styles of clothes and not enough home accessories, 14 Apr 2008
I was looking for a good all round sewing reference book with ideas of things to make for the home. This book has only a handful of home accessories - none of which i would want to make. The majority of the book is clothing which i found to be very dated styles. It does cover all the different sewing techniques though which is the only good thing.
Only if you need outdated outerwear, 25 Dec 2007
I would not recommend this book to anyone who wanted to sew modern up to date clothing. It seems to think that nobody wears underwear so simply excludes it entirely.
Dry in tone and presentation and completely lacking in inspiration and flair.
If you want to know the nuts and bolts of sewing outerwear, this is great, anything else, look elsewhere.
An excellent reference book, 18 May 2007
Contrary to what other reviewers have said, I wouldn't recommend this book for total beginners - it assumes that you already know the basics of setting up and using a sewing machine, cutting out a pattern, pinning things together, etc. These things may sound obvious, but they certainly weren't to me at first! If you really are starting from scratch and would like a book that'll hold your hand with that sort of thing, this isn't the one for you yet. However, if you're already OK with the absolute basics (or aren't afraid to ask the internet!) and are looking to make the move from practising with cushion covers to making clothes, then this book is a must-have.
Although I can't imagine ever sitting down and reading the whole thing, I've found it absolutely invaluable for looking up particular techniques or bits of jargon when I'm dealing with less-than-clear patterns. The instructions and diagrams are clear and useful, and I particularly appreciate the alternative techniques that it suggests for certain fiddly or complicated bits. And it's not just good for sewing techniques - the book is full of other useful stuff, including a guide to different fabrics and what they are used for and a fantastic section on altering patterns to fit your shape.
All in all, this book thoroughly deserves five stars. Admittedly, the sewing patterns that it comes with aren't much cop and you'll probably never need to use some sections, but the quality of the instructions and the thoroughness of the descriptive sections can't be beat. It's a great investment, and you'll be referring to this book for years to come.
Essential if you sew!, 15 Jan 2007
I bought this as a reference after starting to sew again after a 15 year break. I can't rate this highly enough, it has everything beginners and more advanced dressmakers need, easy to understand and well illustated. Just perfect!
EXCELLENT, 15 Oct 2006
This complete guide is a must for any new or old sewer.
My wife was so pleased to get rid of her old book she has had for 18 years which was second hand to start off.
After 5 years gap from dress making, she has started again with the help of this book and already gained in confidence.
Highly recommended.

This truly is the only book you'll need to make (amongst other things) gorgeous jewellery, the technique descriptions are clear and easy to follow with both photographs, diagrams and written instructions.
Highly recommended! Great introduction to beading techniques, 23 Aug 2007
I bought this book as an intermediate beader after hearing many good words about it. And I do find it's a great book for beginners to learn new techniques from stringing to seed beading and wire crochet. Not a book for people looking for different projects, but exactly what it claims to be: an encyclopedia to use as reference for learing. A starting point for new beaders that I would recommend. Fantastic introduction, 07 Aug 2007
This was my first book about beading, and it gave me the courage to try the vast range of techniques shown. The information is set out clearly, and is well illustrated.
An inspirational gallery is included at the back - it will make you want to create something just as beautiful.
An absolute must for anyone wanting to know how and where to start with a few beads. Buy it. An Introduction to beading , 30 Apr 2007
Excellent general introduction to the many ways you can use beads.
Although the book covers a lot of different techniques, the instructions and illustrations are clear and easy to follow.
So if you are venturing into the field of beads, but not yet sure what you enjoy doing, you can experiment with the various techniques and then if you want to concentrate on just one, such as embroidery, you can go ahead and buy a more specific book.
It certainly helped me decide what I prefer doing. Great Book, 10 Mar 2006
Fab book. Shows you everything from textiles surface embellishment to jewellery design. Shows you all the equipment you need and gives you ideas for things you can do with a detailed step by step guide. Brilliant

Brilliant
Simply GREAT, 18 Oct 2008
I must confess I bought it only attracted by the price (at that time, almost half price) with no positive expections. When I received it, I letterally divoured it!
Great quilts, using jelly rools, but it also provides table conversions to other cuts of fabrics and quilt measurements,
It's spuring me to sew my first double-size bed quilt!
Lovely jelly rolls..., 20 Aug 2008
I just love jelly rolls, they look delicious without undoing them, so imagine how I felt unrolling my first one, and then horror at what I was going to do with it, actually I had bought 2 identical rolls. So with this book in one hand, and stroking my fabric with the other I launched into the book, and I chose a quilt to make. The instructions are very easy to follow, and the diagrams are a breeze to understand. So my first quilt is underway, thank you ladies for a fabulous book and instant inspriation!
Jelly Rolls Review, 02 Aug 2008
This is a fabulous book with plenty of ideas and alternatives using some wonderful fabrics. I can't wait to get stuck in with some of the ideas.
Lovely inspiring designs, 10 Jul 2008
I'm new to quilting but experienced at sewing. I love the fabrics you can buy from Moda in jelly rolls. ......So bought this book
No stuffy designs, inspiring photos although some instructions need reading a few times to understand (if you are new to quilting). Very little basic info on making up the "top" into a quilt.

:) Crochet Queen!, 17 Nov 2008
Also nice projects to practice your new skills BRILLIANT!!!, 30 Jul 2008
The only book you'll need, 20 Nov 2008

Buyer Beware..., 01 Nov 2008
although this book is good for learning the basics of knitting, most of the projects are for children, which was unexpected. Based on the contents page i assumed that there were SOME projects for children's clothing but that the majority would be for adults. it however turns out that the word "child's" in the titles of the projects is dropped after the first two or three projects. There are some patterns for adult clothing and home furnishings, however the majority, including all but one of the sweaters are for children aged 1-6.
If you only get one knitting book, let it be this one, 10 Jan 2008
This book is my knitting Bible. Debbie Bliss really knows what she is talking about and passes on her valuable knowledge in a simple and clear way. In easy steps, with well thought out projects along the way, she takes you from the basics of knitting, right through to designing your own knitwear. After several disastrous and unsatisfying attempts at learning to knit over the years, I bought this book to see if I could finally master knitting and I've never looked back; its a real passion now. Using this book as a guide and valuable reference, I can now knit anything that takes my fancy and I've always got a project on the go. I have been amazed at what I've achieved and I still use this book constantly. I would recommend it to anyone and if you are starting out, there can be no better foundation.
A valuable book for anyone who wants to be a competent knitter, 04 Aug 2007
I discovered this book a few years ago having previously only knitted scarfs and blankets. I found this book very informative. The instructions were very clear and demysitfyed how to follow a pattern something I had found so off putting for so long. The workshops move progressively and build your confidence in the craft. I think that Debbie Bliss has managed to "talk" you through the book quite well. I was delighted with how my garter stitch bag turned out it was a very neat and even fabric. I became comfortable with holding the needles and keeping tension. Although the written pattern is very simple it prepares you for reading other more challenging patterns in the book. I found that by reading the workshop chapters a few times I felt confident to tackle a new technique and complete another project.
I definitely feel that I have become a more confident knitter and would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn how to knit and get the most out of this throughly relaxing and addictive craft. A few years on I have found that Debbie Bliss' book is one that I refer to time and time again with affection.
Now I can knit - thanks to a very good book., 28 Mar 2005
I bought this book last autumn to begin knitting as a complete beginner. My friend (who knits) had a look at it and very soon bought her own copy as it contained more advanced patterns that she was keen to learn. This book has answered every one of my questions. It's always worth getting someone to guide you through your very first stitches, but this book takes over when you need to: - cast on/off - increase/decrease - change colour - add pattern/lace details - add twists/bobbles It supplements knitting patterns by interpreting the jargon. A single knitting book cannot teach you absolutely everything that you would ever need to know - but this one comes very close!
Ok, but..., 04 Mar 2005
While this book taught me the basics of how to knit, and i did go from not having a clue, to knitting the first project(a garter stich bag). i have since found that im having an hard time and having to ask for help. I found the pictures for showing how to increase unhelpful and didnt master that from the book, and beware many of the projects in the book is childrens jumpers or hat or baby blanket. The way the book is written keeps you interested to a certain degree but i cant help thinking you're taught the very basics and then plunged in the deep end with more complicated stuff with little explaination which is pretty pointless when its meant to be a beginners guide. i suppose its a decent enough guide but not recommended to use alone to learn how to knit.

:) Crochet Queen!, 17 Nov 2008
Also nice projects to practice your new skills BRILLIANT!!!, 30 Jul 2008
The only book you'll need, 20 Nov 2008
Jeiiy Roll Quilt Fever. By Pam And Nicky Lintott, 24 May 2008
Superb book, Good for beginners or experienced Quilters. Well written with everything explained fully and diagrams leaving nothing to guess work.Plenty of choice with 17 projects and very exciting designs for the Jelly Rolls that are the rage at the moment.
Best felt book ever, 20 Oct 2008
My compliments to Gillian this is the first felting book I have owned with adequate photos and description of how to felt. I have been felting for a few years but was never quite sure if I have understood the technique, thanks to you I now do! The projects are absolutely mouthwatering, don't stop at one book - please!
Fabulous book with everything you need to know, 13 Feb 2008
This is a great introduction to the wonderful world of felting, everything is explained clearly so the beginner can understand, but there are great projects for experienced felters too. I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone interested in this tactile craft. The photography is beautiful and makes you want to start right away!
Complete Feltmaking: 10 Easy Techniques and 25 Great Projects, 19 May 2007
This is a great how to book
as a teacher of special needs groups this was really inspiring -especially for reluctant sudents
easy to follow projects lets you and them progress quickly and easily - buy it!
Easy to follow, 14 Feb 2007
Great book for ideas and for all levels of experience. The instructions are well laid out with pictures - very helpful!!
Simply fabulous!, 07 Feb 2007
I've just received the book and I've already read some pages.
It's so nice! All the projects are gorgeous and the techniques easy. All the materials are easy to find, as well.Sometimes, where I live (Faro, Algave-Portugal) it's hard to find the most simple things!:-(
I feel like I want to go home and start trying felting. I'll have to wait for the weekend when I've got the time.
Lovely book for semi newbies, 26 Jun 2008
Having got my basic skills from Happy Hooker (outstanding instructions) this book gives you plenty scope for some seriously cute animals, which you can finish in a couple of hours (pros probably go a bit quicker). Once you've got the hang of a few basic stiches (mainly crocheting rounds and increasing and decreasing), it's just a question of selecting some lovely yarn and going for it.
The book is American (as is Happy Hooker) so some UK crocheters may struggle with having to convert between the different terminology for stitches. I found it okay as I don't know the UK system anyway and all the funky amigurmi books seem to be American
Cute.. Fun.. and Easy =), 31 May 2008
I absolutely adore this book. The patterns are so simple and easy to follow. Most of them work up really fast as well.
Ana Paula Rimoli was one of my most favourite designers before I got this book and she is even more so now that I have the book!
I can't wait for her next one!
Not for beginners, 17 May 2008
I have wanted to learn to crochet for some time, and was taken in by the cute looking animals on the front of the book. I thought that this would be a good guide and easy enough to follow, due to the reviews I read.
I have been trying for some days now to teach myself to no avail. The book shows the large variety of stitches that can be used, but gives absolutely no indication of how to combine them as required in the patterns.
The book does not even show how to make a very basic square of crochet. In fact it does not even show how to finish a line and start a new one. So for a beginner it is very difficult, frustrating and very much throws you in at the deep end.
Hence I have spent much of my time, since receiving the book, trawling internet sites which teach the absolute basics before I can try the simplest of the patterns in this book.
It is still very a nice and cute book, with lots of lovely ideas, I just hope that I can pick up the skills from elsewhere to enable me to get the best from it.
Finally the wait is over, 03 Mar 2008
I have been waiting for this book to be published and finally the day has come :))
I am going to recommend it to people who already know how to crochet amis and to those who have never had a crocheting hook in their hands yet.
I have been purchasing individual crocheting patterns from Ana Paula Rimoli for a while now and I have always found them cutest, easy, well explained and so quick to make. At this stage most of my friends own something crocheted by me using
Ana's patterns and in fact I have a "presents" waiti | | |
