An enjoyable tale of a Werewolf and a Vet, 26 Jun 2007
"My sister is a Werewolf" initially appears to be one of the slightly humorous paranormals that are so popular at the moment. However this book doesn't have any particular humour but it does have a very well-written tale of two people with lots of baggage falling in love and carving out a future together. It's a follow-up to three other books about the heroine's brothers but this book works fine as a standalone novel and any relevant backstory is given.
Elizabeth Young isn't quite what she seems - a research scientist living in a quiet backwater. Yes, she is those things, but she also has a secret life as a Werewolf and her research aims to 'cure' herself of lycanthropy. She has broken away from her pack and is living on her own but she has a 'mate', Brody, so her life is not her own, even though she has run away from him.
Jensen Adler is the local veterinarian and little else. Since his fiancée Katie died he hasn't dated any other women and isn't really living much of a life, just looking after his grandfather and working. When some friends arrange a blind date for him he finds himself completely knocked sideways by a woman - unfortunately not his date. The woman seems to respond to him and they end up leaving the bar together.
The relationship in this book is rather backwards - sex first, getting to know each other later - but there's a reason for it which becomes clear in due course. However Jensen finds himself with a woman who seems to either try to seduce him or to run away. Her behaviour appears in some ways outrageous but he is also aware that this isn't her normal nature. Jensen notes there are some strange things about Elizabeth, and her brothers are also a bit odd, and yet he continues to try to have a relationship with her and to put up with her vacillations about whether they should see each other.
Most of this book focuses on the relationship between Jensen and Elizabeth. The couple appear on almost every page and even the return of Brody and the potential harm he could cause Jensen doesn't intrude too much into the plot. This story is about characters getting to knew each other and finding out each others' history, even though much has to be kept in the dark.
The writing style in this book was very good and it was an easy read with excellent pacing. Despite the fact that the plot is actually rather thin, it felt like a satisfying book to read and was never boring. I wondered if the author could have made more of the threat from Brody, especially as the final denouement happened very quickly and was solved in a rather facile way, but it was still a worthwhile read.

Really Good!, 30 Dec 2006
This was a good story, it had vodoo, werewolves, romance and a hero who is a bit on the shady side. The heroine is a woman with a past, which puts a different side to this book. This was fun to read and am looking forward to the authors next book.
Every Book as Gripping as the Last..., 28 Sep 2006
A direct follow on from Crescent Moon, Midnight moon is set around Voodoo and the search for a cure for the curse on Luc and his son Adam.
Brilliant Storyline, great characters and as always great creatures and bad guys.
If you have never read Lori Handeland then start at the begining it's much more fun that way.

I'm not going to outline the plot, as a fellow reader of One Dark Night as already done so brilliantly.
I just need to put across my experience while reading this fantastic novel.
Having never read anything from Jaid Black before, I didn't have any expectation as to what this novel would entail. When I say I was consumed in this story...I actually mean exactly that!
I read this book from 9pm untill 2am (long time I know, but I read sloooow)...I just couldn't put the book down!
Jaid creates the story so well and I become engrossed in Nikki's tale...and as for the sexual chemistry from the word Go between Nikki and Detective Cavanah!!! The sex encouters are constructed amazingly! I'm just waitin to meet my own Thomas Cavanah!!!!
This is one of the best books I have ever read, and I will continue to read more from this author. A great balance between sex, disturbing fantasies of Lucifer and rekindling of relationships...I thoroughly recommend this book to everyone!!
Thanks

Great storytelling ability... great story. This is the first book I have read by this author, and definitely not the last. A Dark, Sexy Thriller, 15 Nov 2004
Dr Nicole Adenike (Nikki) is a respected trauma surgeon, a commanding force in the operating room with a secret wish to be totally submissive in her bedroom. Drawn to a particular website which advertises dominant men, she responds to Richard's advert and begins to reveal her dark sexual secrets to him, desires she has never before expressed to anyone, including her best friend, a millionairess psychic named Kim. Over the course of the month she develops feelings for Richard, and taking courage she agrees to finally meet him in person - after his police check comes back fine of course (smart lass!). Richard is unfortunately not ther Master in Shining Armour Nikki is looking for. Dubbed Lucifer by the police, he is a clever man who over the last nine years has brutally violated and murdered highly career minded professional women. Each crime scene is the same, with the victim seemingly willingly tied up before being tortured, sometimes for days. It is not until Nikki escapes from Lucifer with the help of Kim who foresaw the attack in a vision that Detective Thomas Cavanah finally gets a lead on the case. He has been a ruthlessly obssessed individual since Lucifer murdered his beloved Amy nearly nine years ago and wants nothing more than to see this psycho dead. As part of his investigation, Thomas has access to all the steamy emails exchanged between Nikki and Richard and finds himself in an intense state of arousal and jealousy. Having wanted Nikki for himself since meeting her, he is exactly the dominating sort of man Nikki secretly longs for. As both struggle to accept their growing feelings for each other, tensions are strained as Lucifer continues to contact Nikki and taunt Thomas with further murders. This is another great contemporary novel by JB. It doesn't have the multiple sexual scenes described in The Possession, but the few encounters between Nikki and Thomas are sizzling - I would recommend that you don't read this book on public transport as I did!!! Although the identity of Lucifer was fairly obvious despite the several suspects written into the plot, this book was still a great read with a beautiful ending. Thomas' proposal had me in stitches and to quote the incomparable Ms Black ...... "I'm going to marry you. Thought you might want to know in case you need to buy a dress or something"...... Where can I get a Detective Cavanah???

Skilled and Masterful, 20 Oct 2008
This is the kind of book that you would read it at one go because you simply couldn't put it down and while reading it, you're dreading the ending closing in because you don't want it to be finished.
And of course, after you finished it, you'd ask "when's the next book coming out, please?"
Book 4 from the the brilliant Adrien English mystery series, "Death of a Pirate King" can be read as a stand-alone mystery novel, but readers who have read the previous 3 books first would have a bigger emotional ride out of it. It is because those readers will be more invested in the characters, and characterization - that's one of Josh Lanyon's strongest points.
So, if you haven't read any previous book from the series, you can start still with this one, and I am sure you'll go back and all of them afterwards.
While the romance element in this book is strong, the mystery itself never takes a back seat. The brilliant thing about Lanyone's writing (and his plot) is that he make these two elements go hand in hand together. And the mystery is not solved until the readers finally see the true colours of the characters. The sex scene is never just there for the sake of it, it says so much about the characters and the impact of their actions.
I cannot recommend this book higher. Read this series, you won't regret it.
