lesbian classic, 17 Jul 2008
Patience and Sarah was written many a year ago and was set in a times even further back - the 19th century to be exact! It is based on the real relationship between artist Mary Ann Wilson and her partner.
It's incredibly sweet if not overly soppy in some places but always brought a smile to my face. The two characters are unique and yet lovable in their determination and passion for each other.
The book is rather short and easy to read. I managed to finish it in a single sitting. Ergo I wouldnt fork out loads of money on it but I'd say it's worth a read. Something slightl different (more old fashion?) to the newer bog standard lesbian novels out there.
Not the greatest literature, but fun all the same, 27 May 2002
This isn't the best book I've ever read, but if you're looking for something warm and fuzzy to curl up with then you could do a lot worse. The butch/femme colouring of the lesbian relationship at the heart of the novel seems a little dated now, but is told with such sincerity and affection that it hardly matters. A really sweet book, particularly good if you like New England.
A beautiful, compelling, warm and wel written book., 05 Oct 2001
I'm not sombody who reads alot of love storys, but i am glad that i found this book. It is a beautiful, compassionate book that feeds the soul.
An excellent read, 09 Mar 2000
I liked this book becaose it kept my interest going throughout. I like the way it's loosely biographic and based closely to the life of Mary Ann Willson and her partner who lived in the 19th century.
