Partial success in 'moon' gardening, 01 Nov 2008
I found the whole subject fascinating with some success and some failures. My sweet peas were magnificent with really long stems and a very long flowering season (Jun - Sep) and runner beans equally as good and very prolific. Unfortunately the carrot root fly had not read the book and despite sowing 2 packets of french beans nothing came up at all. I suppose it's a case of 'you win some, you lose some'
I shall certainly use the system this year and at present my toilet roll middles are filled and in the propagator waiting for the right day to sow
Gardening by the moon, 30 Oct 2007
Whilst I found this book interesting I would have preferred more charts and diagrams to enable me to easily see what I should be doing when. Nick seems to totally miss out on the fact that there is more to moon growing than just the waxing and waining of the moon, for example, whether the moon is ascending or descending can make a considerable difference in the growth of certain crops. Cheap, easy and revolutionary, 29 May 2005
I was introduced to this by a man that tiled our kitchen floor. We all know the influence of the sun, but did you know that the moon is just as powerful? There is a hefty explanation, that gets rather technical at times, but basically plants are divided into four categories. Flower, root, leaf and fruit. The lunar calendar guides you to the most auspicious days for sowing, tending and harvesting. The whole concept is fantastic and cheaper than a carton of tomato ripe. A serious and very informative book on the moon's influence., 25 Oct 2001
I have a serious interest in the Moon's behaviour. Thus, catastrophic events take place at the First and Last Quarters of the Moon's orbit. The Californian earthquakes of 1st October 1987 and the 19th January 1984, each followed two weeks later by the Great British Hurricane on the 15th October 1987 and the Irish Sea Hurricane on the 3rd February 1984. These events are separated by the long lunar cycle of 6 solar years and 111 days. Saturn is the planetary twin of the Earth, being captured by the Sun at the same time. This is why their perihelions are very similar. The author presents many other behavioural patterns of the Moon which are of interest to those who research lunar phenomena. That said, in applying this knowledge to the growing of plants the author has shouldered a very difficult task and has succeeded in giving us an annual diary that is most invaluable. I heartily recommend this book.

A 'Life Bible'... Priceless, 16 Oct 2008
Every time I'm having a difficult patch in my relationship I turn to this book - and time and time again there are my problems articulated through an inherent understanding of the character traits of myself and my loved one... and how or why we might be misunderstanding each other.
This isn't just a book for helping you understand your intimate relationships.. it helps to illuminate what drives different star sign characters, and how they each relate to every other sign.
I sometimes find the use of examples excessive and distracting, particularly when reading to a sceptic, as they can sound airy fairy.
However, this is a 'Life Bible' you are likely to turn to again and again as you try to learn about yourself, grow as a person and become more tolerant of others... particularly those closest to you, or with whom interaction is challenging. It certainly helps me with its myriad astonishing insights.
Bags of information. A very "deep" book!, 11 Apr 2007
This is an extremely informative book with loads of information about star sign combinations.
When you first see it, you'll notice how THICK it is. This is because Linda Goodman has taken the time to write an in depth analysis of each star sign relationship. She first starts off with an intro of what each sign means and goes on to how they "are" together.
For those of you that want a "light read" you WON'T get it here. This is a very PRECISE book and if you're not interested in the nitty gritty, you may find that there's a lot of irrelevant information. So if you just want to know the bare bones, "Are Libras compatible with Tauruses???" you'll find yourself flicking through pages and pages to find the paragraph you're after.
I recommend this book to people who are interested in exploring the astrological LOGIC behind why some star signs are attracted to each other and want to learn more about their own or their partner's characteristics in depth.
If you're after something fun and easy then I recommend "Sexual Astrology", but definately go for "Love Signs" if you have a burning interest into the laws of attraction.
Highly recommended!
an absolute gem, 10 Jan 2007
I first read this book probably 15 years ago and practically inhaled the contents, reading it felt like winning the lottery as it seemed to so well explain so many of my relationships. Granted the caveats about moon sign stuff are warranted that would be an absolutely herculean task. If you are thinking of buying this then do, I even went to visit the author in cripple creek in 1995 as a homage to the value it has added to my life but unfortunately she had passed on.
Love Signs,THEonly guide to relationships you will ever need, 14 May 2004
I first bought my copy of Love Signs in April 1993. LInda put her heart and soul into this book! It is guidance and insight into our relationships and very sensitively and tenderly written. I've found the advice within to be generally very accurate with my personal relationships. I read and kept re-reading this book, or just parts of it over the years and came to value Linda's insight a great deal. I unfortunately lost my copy, when I loaned it to a friend (we ceased being friends and she put my book in a charity shop, after hanging onto it for months!) So...a warning there , don't lend your copy to anyone! I'm a definite fan of Linda's now and was very sorry to hear of her passing.
The Best Guide to People, 04 Jan 2004
Amazing book... it truly does explain how and why people are the way they are. I found it helped in understanding family members, colleagues and why people react the way they do. Forget horoscopes in the daily papers, this is the only guide you need to understand the human race. Quite fantastic.

THE BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN, 16 Oct 2007
When I read other peoples reviews I thought I would be reading the best book ever written. Half way through Sun Signs written by Goodman I have come to realise that this is not the case.
She claims that we are all influenced and controled by our time of birth and have no control over this. In other words living beings do not have control over their lives only assume they do. Yet on the other hand she criticises a person's past behavior making out that this is not the case, it is just the person who is down right bad. Make your mind up Goodman Which one is it?
Excellent, 21 May 2004
I found this book in a friends house many years ago and everytime I meet someone new, I use this as an insight into their character .. some people end up thinking I have pyshic powers when I start telling them what they are like! This has become my Bible.
Brilliant!!!!!, 20 Jul 2003
I picked up a copy of this book at a friends house and was captivated- i could not put it down. Reading the chapter on my sunsign was unbelievable-it was like she had written it about my life.Absoloutly amazing- i cant emphisize how accurate this book is!

Scarily accurate..., 29 Apr 2003
I first came across this at work - one of the typists had an ancient battered copy and it did the rounds in the office. I've never believed in this before but I do now - and I'm not just saying that for effect. Gasps of 'oh my god, that is SO true' could be heard all around as each of us read our respective chapters in turn. Brilliant.

Avoid!!!!!!, 16 Apr 2008
I bought this book expecting it to provide useful information on living in tune with the lunar cycle. I was very dissapointed. From the out-set it launches attacks on modern medicine and how doctors could benifit if they followed the methods in this book. Now, I'm a pagan, organic gardener and use alternative remedies all the time but this book really got my back up. The information is presented as fact, throughout the book, with little to back up the theory. This book IS NOT about, 'The Art Of Harmony With Nature & Lunar cycles' as it claims. It is, yet another, book about new age theory mixed with medieval astrological diagnosis. If you want useless advice such as you snore becuase you're afraid letting go etc, etc then this is the book for you.
The author not content with attacking the medical profession later attacks your pet cat. 'Cats do not belong in bed, among other things because they are carriers of worms.' CLAP TRAP. Ms Paungger clearly doesn't like cats as much as doctors. My cat has slept on my bed for 18 years and not once have I contracted worms. According to this book wherever your cat sleeps is full of negative energy and radiation. She has clearly never owned a cat. I have 2 cats & they'll sleep where it's warm & safe, my whole house and garden must be filled with radiation.
The worst thing about this is it has hardly anything to do with the moon. There's even a chapter on biorhythms, which are calculated by your birth date and have little to do with the moon.
Ultimately I really regret buying this book. I'm donating it to oxfam at the first chance, perhaps it may give someone, somewhere a good laugh.
a kind book, 09 Jan 2008
worthwhile reading - very good, sensible advice. besides the valuable information the writing is coherent and full of common sense, kind and understanding, unpretentious. a good companion for reflexion and (self)care. very down-to-earth and yet so spiritually elevated. good and simple argumentation. lacks nonsense.
changed my life, 16 Feb 2007
This is one of the most interesting books i have ever read with regards to natural health. I regularly use this book as a reference, when to go to the dentist, when to have new windows fitted, when to paint the living room, even when to cut my nails! It is fascinating and informative and i highly recommend it.
Indispensible, 20 Mar 2005
This wonderful book has such a wealth of information on the Moon, her passage through the skies (and constellations) and how this effects us on Earth. It goes into great detail when describing each moon sign (not as a personality profile) and how it affects our bodies, eating habits, weight, health, the weather, decisions, healing. Such important knowledge, yet we've let it almost disappear.
When I first got this book I flicked through and found a passage that stated filing or cutting your nails on a friday night after sunset makes them grow healthy and strong. Having never had a fingernail last longer than an hour, I immediately decided to try this out. And it works! Even the authors say they can't explain it, but my nails are so strong and durable and white. People think they're false. It convinced me this book had secrets of our universe that I could learn about, but probably never fully comprehend. I knew it could teach me some real truths (more far-reaching than fingernails).
It also includes times for collecting and growing herbs and when to do certain household jobs like fix the roof. I know for certain other Moon books have used this as a source for their information. Forget the rest and just invest in this great volume. It teaches so much about the magic of Nature, in a very down-to-Earth and reverent way.
It also has extensive information on bio-rhythms and how to calculate your own. It takes a bit of maths, but the self-knowledge you gain is truly indispensable. I now understand my own energy peaks and troughs and don't over-exert myself at particular times of the month.
I would say it is an absolute must for any Pagans, but also for anyone else who just wishes to be more in harmony with the world around them. It is so important we are in rhythm with Nature. We have so many artificial time-keepers and influences, lets remember and harmonize with the most original and ancient- our Moon.
Try it., 03 Nov 2004
I am not a very alternative person by nature but for a while my whole family has planned everything possible according to this book. I do believe it gives confidence and reassurance that you sometimes need when planning a date for something.

Interesting Predictions, 12 Aug 2005
I found that this Old Moore's is in the Guinness book of records for being the oldest annual publication (since 1697!!!!) Some of the predictions are a bit weird but bits can be quite interesting. Worth a look at if you see one in the shops

Wonderful Xmas Gift, 19 Dec 2006
I received this book as an early Christmas gift from a friend of mine with a great sense of humour.I found it VERY apt, especially for a Piscean male who as been intriguing me for some while now.Can recommend this book for its razor-sharp insight and piercing observations of the dark side of the male character.Even if you're not into horoscopes, give this book a try-it's a great laugh and will give you direction when deciding which "bastard"to go out with!
How to Spot a B*stard by his star sign, 15 Mar 2004
Hillariously funny - this was a gift for my birthday last week - I laughed when I saw the title and have been giggling ever since. My friends are queueing up to read it. Excellent read or pressie for 30 something single women. It is a great tongue in cheek look at men and their personality traits by star sign. - the lights of recognition go on quite a few times.... Am off to a singles night next week and intend to take it with me for a reference guide... ok well just to have a laugh with.
Bruisingly Funny, 06 Feb 2002
Rampant tear into the male species written with wit, style and great deal of humour. If any your man takes offence to this book, dump him immediately. I would, if I was a woman.
Very funny. And scarily accurate., 11 Nov 2000
A fine antidote to all the pleasant astrology 'every one is lovely at heart' books out there. The failings of every male, whatever his starsign, are pointed out in detail, just in case you thought men might actually have any redeeming features. It also includes a section on 'Which B*stard for Which Goddess' - which pretty thoroughly points out all us girl's weak points, too, when it comes to selecting a mate. Not for those seeking serious astrological profiles, perhaps, but a fair companion to such, and I defy anyone not to laugh out loud at some of the comments. And it'd make a fine gift for the-man-no-longer-in-your-life... It also includes a Forward by Gillian Helfgott, a professional astrologer, (made famous by the film 'Shine') affirming that there are some telling accuracies inamongst the dark humour. Well written, clever, and the only problem is that it may put you off dating for good. Read this, laugh, and wince.

Interesting Predictions, 12 Aug 2005
I found that this Old Moore's is in the Guinness book of records for being the oldest annual publication (since 1697!!!!) Some of the predictions are a bit weird but bits can be quite interesting. Worth a look at if you see one in the shops
A must read, 22 Jul 2008
This is the book that finally opened doorways for me spiritualy.Contains some much needed information and has a great must get reading list at the back. It completly blows away the charlatans like Doreen Virtue and company.
star signs, the secret codes of the universe,, 17 Sep 2007
very dissapointed with this book,i found it very American in its phrasiology and referred to the boss & employee as a he all the time.
Enjoyable, surprising - and NOT an Astrology book!, 12 Dec 2000
This book will come as something of a surprise to those who are familiar with the author's "Sun signs" and "Love signs" books of Astrology Star Signs is NOT an astrology book - it is much more broad based and esoteric than her previous works, and is an easily accessible, fun, yet serious guide to what she claims are ancient wisdoms including (and I quote): Star Signs as a guide to your career - the work you were born to do Numerology - the vital link between the power of numbers and astrology. Lexigrams - the ancient codes revealing the hidden meanings of words. Forgotten Rainbows - the power of gems and light, and how colours shape your life Some of the observations and suggestions in Star Signs may seem startling, even unbelievable. Refreshingly, you are encouraged by the author to be sceptical - but to try out her ideas for yourself before deciding whether or not to accept them (of course she believes that you will discover that all of them will work!). I have to admit to initially being doubtful, but so far, many of her suggestions DO seem to work (e.g. having your hair cut at different times of the lunar cycle depending on whether you want it to grow quickly, or slowly to save on barber's bills!) Some of the rather more far fetched ideas, I have yet to try, but I'm sure you will enjoy experimenting and making your own judgements! Whatever conclusions you come to, this is an intelligent, well-written and thoroughly enjoyable book.

I suppose it's a case of 'you win some, you lose some'
I shall certainly use the system this year and at present my toilet | | |
