Really very helpful., 22 Jul 2008
Reading with God is a super really helpful book. The author explains in simple and effective ways the way of praying through Reading With God.
This book has brought a new prayer path into my life.
WOW, 01 Jun 2007
Having had the rare chance to spend some time at Downside Abbey and with Dom David Foster. I find this book refeshing in this now socitey.
Sitting with God, 10 Dec 2006
I never thought that monastaries held anything relevant for the modern spiritual life, yet David Foster proved me wrong.
In an engaging written style that does not assume you are an oxford university professor, Foster brings to the reader a precious spiritual discipline that has helped me draw closer to God.
He explains, in essence, that reading the Bible should not be the same process as reading any other book. The Bible is God's letter to us, and can therefore bring deep change in our hearts and lives. Lectio Divina is an ancient practice still used in monastries today. Basically, it is 'reading with God'; you let God talk to you through scripture, and then you talk back.
It isn't some strange, mystical practice that we should be weary of. In fact, its something that you begin to hope will be used more widely in the church. It can be done by anyone in any place. All you need is a bible.
This book is a solid introduction to lection divina and is really all you need in order to learn how to do it.

A GREAT AND INFORMATIVE BOOK.....THANK YOU!!! , 29 Jan 2007
"Worship is a choice we make. Whether we worship God or not, is always an act of our own will. Our will determines whether we make it our first reaction to things that happen to us - or don't happen to us - or a last resort. If we do not make it our first reaction, then we cannot possibly make it a way of life. And if we do not make praise a way of life, we will never experience all God has for us."
This book was a Christmas gift which I thoroughly enjoyed as I have never read any of the author's works. Stormie Omartian writting is incredible and she is bent on showing us how practical praising God and worshiping Him can affect all our lives. Because God dwells and inhabits the praises of His people we are sure that He is near, and as we send our praises up He sends His blessings down to us. There is no Praise that God the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit are unaware of. He empowers us and draws us closer to Him. When we are closer to Him we yearn to be just like Him and we get the very sense of the Kingdom. Stormie Omartian walks us through the many reasons why we should praise God, and she allows us to know when praise is crucial.
Another thing I loved about this book was after each chapter there was a nice long prayer of Praise, then a study to make sure we understood what we had just read, and bible verses to dwell on. This book was well laid out and well written, and can be used as a devotional if you care to. Very well done. I look forward to reading more of Stormie Omartian's work. May God continue to bless her and use her towards the honour and glory of His Kingdom. For surely we can be made better and brighter christians by following her teaching.

a little beauty, 09 Aug 2008
A lovely little book to feel and hold, it has a padded cover which makes it feel special from the start. For those who are familiar with Bradens work the message follows his other books as he continues his search for spiritual development, teaching us not to pray with words but with feelings (a spiritual take on the law of attraction). The message as ever comes straight from Bradens heart and his desire to give us the tools to create a better world for ourselves and others. However, like his other works he is very repetetive, reiterating the same points continuously which can get quite frustrating.
This really is an excellent book... suitable for all., 29 May 2008
I, too, read this book after "The Divine Matrix". There is a certain amount of "overlap" between the two books, but each is complete in itself.
"Secrets of the Lost Mode of Prayer" really is an excellent book, and can be read by anyone with an open mind (& heart)... irrespective of religious or cultural background.
Unfortunately, much has been lost (or hidden from us) over the years, and we are only just re-discovering what was "known" thousands of years ago.
Gregg Braden does an excellent job of bringing us back to "basics" in this wonderful little book... highlighting the role of human emotions in the effectiveness of prayer... and the need to be in the right state of mind (ie preparation)... and to "feel" (amongst other things) that the prayer has already been answered.
All I can say is: read the book, and try it for yourself; it could certainly change your life for the better (as well as countless others around you).
The Power of Beauty, 30 Apr 2007
I read Gregg Braden's Divine Matrix first which was published after this book, and they contain similar material. However, you will gain from reading both.
It is a delightfully packaged little book, small, red and with a padded cover. You are drawn to it before you read one word of the stunning content.
The first page tells you everything about it:
"This book is written for those in search of comfort in the presence of fear and uncertainty in our world. In those moments when life's hurts tear into the hidden places of your soul, I invite you to enter the refuge of beauty, blessing, our lost mode of prayer, and the deep wisdom that each rests upon..."
Yes, other books will claim this too, because having read dozens of books about spirituality, it is no surprise the best are all singing the same song. What makes this book different is that it is free from jargon, and puts the complex message over powerfully as five core `secrets.'
I have long used the expression `you're a beauty' [probably gleaned from Robert Lindsay's Fagin in Oliver Twist], as a term of endearment, without ever really paying attention to its deeper meaning. Braden breathes life into the word and explains how beauty, whilst subjective holds us all in its thrall.
So, when you pray feel the answer, imagine what you want has happened, learn from hurt, use the power of blessing in your life, let beauty `be the transformer' and create your own prayers.
Simple? Yes. Powerful? Incredibly. How? Get the book.

An excerpt from a review in Light Magazine, 04 Feb 2008
From The Bottom Of The Pond, focuses on an aspect of Spirituality that has by enlarge remained in the closet of mainstream Christianity; the art of contemplation seems much more at home in a Buddhist monastery than in the Church Of England. That said it appears that more priests, especially the younger generation are realizing that people are in need of the spiritual nourishment that sitting in contemplation can offer.
This uplifting little book offers insight into this spiritual strand of Christianity, the side that focuses on the inner journey and personal connection, rather than the judgmental and wrathful God I remember hearing about during my childhood. This strand is `the way' of the great Christian mystics, which had been lost down the centuries, but now is re- emerging to help us still our minds. If you have forgotten how to pray, it will remind you that prayer is many-fold, and as individual as we are.
You can listen to an on-line interview with the author about this book on My Spirit Radio - Feed Your Mind, Change Your Life with June-Elleni Laine
A much-needed spiritual kick-start, 21 Jan 2008
Hurrah for a short, easily-read book that also rewards return visits with plenty to reflect on! A gentle but very effective spiritual kick-start....
Timeless, 11 Dec 2007
A very timeless philosophy - simply but succintly put by Simon Small. Helps me to realise how much I need to live in the now and quieten my mind to find the peace and contentment that passes all understanding. Very accessible - good for young people.

I have been trying to meditate for the past couple of months or so, listening to metronomes, counting my breath, trying to think of nothing at all (which I find about as hard as herding cats). But after playing this CD for 5 days I am finally experiencing moments where all of my thoughts disappear, if only for a second at a time. And it's getting better. If you are the type of person who would love to meditate but feel like you are somehow wasting your time, then this CD is definitely worth a try. It worked :-), 22 Oct 2007
All I can say is that by following the meditation a few times I was able to get in the gap and experience a state of peacefullness and relaxation. Which for someone who's normally got loads of thoughts rushing about my head and am full of distractions is truly remarkable.
Enjoy Useful if used in conjunction with other books, 03 Nov 2004
This is a good companion book and CD to Wayne Dyer's Power of Intention. My biggest criticism of The Power of Intention is that the reader is told about the usefulness of Japa meditation but unfortunately the author has not explained how to do it! This book covers all you need to know and is compact and simple enough to get to grips with the concepts quickly. I was surprised how small it was but don't be fooled it really does give you enough to get started with Japa meditation. While I would recommend this book as a concise text on how to practice Japa it is really a starting point rather than a detailed programme. If you have goals in mind and are already practicing meditation in general then you will probably find this useful.
A good meditation but not all I would expect from the title, 29 Feb 2004
This is a short but interesting book which starts well, explaining the authors philosophy which I enjoyed. However it contains only one meditation. This is a useful exercise but there are many other books at a similar price which contain many more ideas and this one may or may not suit you. It is good to have a CD with the guided meditation but there is a sound on it, repeated 18 times in the course of the dialogue, that made me giggle and I became distracted rendering the CD useless. There are two chapters at the end of the book that are really advertising a previous book and it's message. The meditation does help with finding stillness - but don't expect a better communication with God using this technique than with any other exercise.
Wonderful Meditation, 15 Jan 2004
This book and CD is a marvellous way to be still and recharge the batteries of life. It takes a little while to be able to do exactly as Wayne is seeking you to do but don't be discouraged it all falls into place

You can listen to an on-line interview with the author about this book on My Spirit Radio - Feed Your Mind, Change Your Life with June-Elleni Laine A much-needed spiritual kick-start, 21 Jan 2008
Can't recommend this too highly. Buy it NOW!! At last!, 24 Jan 2008

This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. It gives a whole new perspective on praise and prayer. Thomas Merton's love of God, and the wonders of nature He created, flows from every page. At first, reading the introduction seemed long and "wordy", but as I read the "hours" I found a need to look back to the introduction, firstly for guidance, but also for more insight into Merton the man, who penned such breathtaking poetry. A book for any one wishing to deepen their own spirituality.

This is an excellent book for it helps to understand the reason behind prayer and how to make it enjoyable and a way of life. The book deals with many aspects of the human psyche and teaches one the importance of the heart center(where we receive and give love assisting in healing). As only when we truly deepens our spiritual life, life can truly become a joy and any setbacks can be viewed with an understanding through the power of prayer we will overcome and be stronger through love.

Brilliant for those who want to get closer to God, 11 Mar 2002
I read this book when I was 15 years old, now I am 16 years old and I still find this book inspiring. I used to be a 'casual christian' but I am glad to say that I feel that I am moving on to greater hights. I never knew that the simple yet quite difficult act (for me) of fasting and praying could yield such astounding results in a person's life as well as other people's lives. I recommend this book to Christians who want to move away from 'Christianity as a religion' to a Christianity as a way of life. It will change your perspective on Christianity as a religion to Christianity as a dynamic journey to know God more and more each day. God has not just left us to face dangers, he has given us tools to break the most strongest of strongholds. This book will show how to do that. Mahesh life experiences are also extrodinary.(Also read Only Love Can Make A Miracle that is a remarkable book.)
Brilliant!, 21 Feb 2002
OK, Bought it, read it, tried it and.......WOW IT WORKS! This guy knows his stuff, it opens up a whole new realm of your prayer life which you didn't know was there (and yes I do know how to pray...and every day). Prayers are sharper and more defined and you actually feel (without wishing to sound at all hairy fairy pie in the sky etc.,) more 'connected' and closer to God and His will. If you are thinking about buying this book, don't think BUY IT! Oh yeah, next time you thank God for your food after you've fasted believe me you'll really mean it!
Excellent!, 26 Jul 1999
Mahesh speaks from experience and NOT theory. I have known Mahesh for over 5 1/2 years and he is for real. Read his life story, Only Love Can Make A Miracle... it is his life story. Great book.

You can listen to an on-line interview with the author about this book on My Spirit Radio - Feed Your Mind, Change Your Life with June-Elleni Laine A much-needed spiritual kick-start, 21 Jan 2008
Can't recommend this too highly. Buy it NOW!! At last!, 24 Jan 2008
It takes a little while to be able to do exactly as Wayne is seeking you to do but don't be discouraged it all falls into place
highly recommended, 27 Oct 2007
This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. It gives a whole new perspective on praise and prayer. Thomas Merton's love of God, and the wonders of nature He created, flows from every page. At first, reading the introduction seemed long and "wordy", but as I read the "hours" I found a need to look back to the introduction, firstly for guidance, but also for more insight into Merton the man, who penned such breathtaking poetry. A book for any one wishing to deepen their own spirituality.
Simple in Approach, 31 Oct 2007
Great book.
