Read it and then take ACTION!, 03 Sep 2008
If you read this book with an open mind and actually take action and DO some of the things it suggests... you cannot fail to see the difference in your life. I've created my own sucessful company and what I learned in this book has been crucial to it's growth and sucess. Beyond Chocolate: How to Stop Yo-yo Dieting and Lose Weight for Good
A good introduction to the law of attraction, 30 Aug 2008
This is basically the movie transcribed. The intro is annoying as they babble on about 'The Secret' for far too long before getting to what it actually is.
Once it gets going it covers the topic well, but is a bitty as it jumps from contributor to contributor.
For me this was my introduction to Esther Hicks, who after reading her books changed my life. So i do owe The Secret a debt of gratitude as it opened my eyes, and showed me the way, even if it didn't change my life on it's own. But do what it says and research some of the avatars quoted in there and see whose writings work or you.
For me it was Esther Hicks, for my Mum it was Napoleon Hill, and for my friend it was Bob Proctor. But we all were introduced to these writers through this book.
Only positive things to gain here...., 29 Aug 2008
I would reccommend people read this book, there is only positive things to gain from it. If you have read other books on the subject then it's likely you have read this and if this is your first it's a good place to start! The book has proved to provide 'the secret' for rhonda byrne, those featured in it and there is absolutely no reason why you cant join them in the success you desire too.
Dangerous, 28 Aug 2008
This books claims that if you truly believe then the universe will provide everything you need. It is based on some pseudo theory that positive thoughts create a kind of positive feedback that will benefit everyone. That's basically the message but the book repeats it over and over in a hundred different ways.
I think the book is dangerous and I wonder how many people who bought it went on to over-commit themselves financially in the belief that the universe would provide...
We live in a world of SCARCITY, not unlimited abundance..., 28 Aug 2008
There is much merit in anything self-helpy.
If you have taken the time to pick up a book like "The Secret" at least you are taking positive steps to improve your life.
This alone marks you out as part of a tiny minority of people who are more likely than the crowd to achieve their dreams.
The Secret is moderately useful in reminding you to use positive thinking but there are much better books out there for same.
That said, one thing this whole movement gets TOTALLY wrong, however, is the notion that "the universe" is limitlessly abundant and, as a result, we can all manifest everything we want.
This is very dangerous and very untrue.
At the world's current population and level of Ecomomic development we are already bumping up against some very serious ecological glass ceilings.
In order for every African, Chinese, South American and Indian (for eg) to have the standard of living of an AVERAGE western European or North American we would need approximately EIGHT MORE PLANETS of Oil, Gold, Iron Ore, Agricultural land, fresh water, fish etc... etc...
If everyone in the world were to be able to manifest their multi-millionaire dream existence as this book would have you believe you'll have nine billion people by 2020 flying to their super yachts in private jets.
This is quite clearly utterly impossible. There isn't enough metal to build them, let alone enough oil to fuel them.
Those of us lucky to live an affluent first world existence do so on the backs of most of the world's population living on a $ a day and having a life expectancy of roughly half of ours.
Only a very, very tiny minority of the earth's population can ever hope to have a $4.5m house (as described gushingly in the book by one of the contributors) and no "secret" is ever going to change that I'm afraid.
This book will, however, be helpful for those of us in the first world who, by luck of birth, DO have a chance of getting all the material trappings we want (note I didn't say NEED here).
The people responsible for this book need to do some serious reading outside of their evidently narrow world view.
I would suggest they start with Jeffrey Sach's most recent "Economics of a Crowded Planet" and Jared Diamond's "Collapse".

A big ego writes about ego, 12 Aug 2008
I was given this by someone who saw Oprah raving about it and bought two copies in a state of excitement. I thought that the first three pages were quite good then was extremely disappointed as the rest went no further than to rehash Buddhism. My overriding concern is Tolle's continual denigration of the ego and his attempts to persuade us that if we could just annihilate any sense of being an individual or having individual thoughts or preferences we could all acheive permanent bliss. In fact, if we all followed this advice we would all coagulate in one big splurge of mush as no one would be allowed a personality at all.
This kind of spirituality feels very uncomfortable. I have always believed that the ego is a misunderstood beast and gets very bad press in New Age circles. We each represent a shard of God, here to express and experience our uniqueness and to evolve the whole while understanding we are part of the whole to which we will return following death. In addition, Tolle's regurgitated and extreme trashing of the ego is incongruent given that he benefits from the proceeds from a whole range of products, from calendars to cards, emblazoned with his name. No ego there then!
This book feels like a quick attempt to jump on the coat tails of his previous book and, for me, offers nothing new. I am sure this will do very well for the Eckhart Tolle franchise but am concerned about the cost to anybody who adopts this philosophy without understanding that 'God' the Universe or whatever you believe in gave us the ego for a reason. It enables you to find who you are and what you stand for. There is nothing inherently spiritual about voluntary self anhihilation. Even the Dala Lama left Tibet rather than adopting a stance of staying put and being 'meek' in the presence of danger. It isn't a New Earth it is a rehash and it doesn't say what it says on the tin 'awakening to your life purpose' should read 'putting your life purpose to sleep as it doesn't exist.'
Makes You Think, 31 Jul 2008
This work not only gives you an insight in Buddhism, it really gets you thinking about life itself.
Books like this one always manage to grab our attention and hold it, as we humans are always looking for answers in our lives and the reasons for our very existence.

A spiritual guide to a better life, 29 Jul 2008
If you were to say that this book inspires a completely new way of thinking, you would be wrong. That's because new-age guru Eckhart Tolle bases his teachings on the existing concept of moving beyond thinking. He explains that you can only connect to the energy that flows through the universe only when you hush the incessant voice in your head. This book made a huge media splash early in 2008 when Oprah Winfrey selected it for her bestseller-making book club and encouraged worldwide discussion of it via live Web seminars. Readers eagerly shared their "aha moments" online, citing points in the book that ignited their "shifts in consciousness." And yet anyone who is at all familiar with Eastern philosophies will not find Tolle's messages quite so groundbreaking. For instance, the concept of ego transcendence has been part of the Eastern spiritual lexicon for centuries. getAbstract agrees that Tolle's guidance fulfills a need for current-day seekers, and recommends it to anyone who relishes the spiritual quest for authentic selfhood and inner stillness, or who is simply curious to discover what provoked all the buzz.

Product Description
Ekhart Tolle's message is simple: living in the now is the truest path to happiness and enlightenment. And while this message may not seem stunningly original or fresh, Tolle's clear writing, supportive voice and enthusiasm make this an excellent manual for anyone who's ever wondered what exactly "living in the now" means. Foremost, Tolle is a world-class teacher, able to explain complicated concepts in concrete language. More importantly, within a chapter of reading this book, readers are already holding the world in a different container--more conscious of how thoughts and emotions get in the way of their ability to live in genuine peace and happiness. Tolle packs a lot of information and inspirational ideas into The Power of Now. (Topics include the source of Chi, enlightened relationships, creative use of the mind, impermanence and the cycle of life.) Thankfully, he's added markers that symbolise "break time". This is when readers should close the book and mull over what they just read. As a result, The Power of Now reads like the highly acclaimed A Course in Miracles--a spiritual guidebook that has the potential to inspire just as many study groups and change just as many lives for the better. --Gail Hudson

Doesn't do it for me., 31 Aug 2008
I read this book several years ago. Yes it is enthusiastic and easily accesible and very convincing BUT I don't believe it was written out of any profound knowledge nor from true enlightenment. I felt it was at best a simplified version of Krishnamurti's writings, which I may struggle with but find deeply insightful. So yes as an introduction to more sincere & profound spiritual writing it has it's place. Tolle does have a story to tell, but it is not that unique. There is a difference between simplification coming from deep wisdom and that from inexperience ( I guess the same can be said for more complicated texts too!) and knowledge truely lived and that which is just an exchange of words. Dissappointing considering all the hype, especially from circles, who in my opinion, should know better.
Intellectual snobbery, 25 Aug 2008
I purchased this on the strength of previous reviews and because I have been going through depression. Well - a great cure for my insomnia! How this writing can be described as "clear" is beyond me. I consider myself a fairly intelligent person but this book is hard hard work. Long badly constructed sentences using 20 words when 5 would have been ample, you have to read everything 3 times to get any idea of the meaning. The words used are long, difficult and unnecessary(keep a dictionary handy). I handed it to my husband to ask "is it me"? He has an M.A. from Cambridge, has practised law for 25 years and is incredibly intelligent. He read several pages at various places throughout the book and shook his head - his comment was my heading "intellectual snobbery". It means little, words put together in no format and no "real" situations explained. I would advise anyone who wants help on this subject to read CBT for Dummies - a page and a half in that book on "mindfulness" did more for me than this whole book - a waste of money and time - but as I say great cure for insomnia.
A life changing book for me., 10 Aug 2008
This book has changed my life along with Eckhart's other publications.
I was very skeptical at first, as I considered myself to be non religious and not spiritual and didn't think I could relate to this sort of stuff.
My initial 'though' could not have been more wrong. I hardly ever read books but could not put this one down. I read it at a time when I had recently moved to the other side of the world, then within a few days, I was let down badly by my girlfriend, resulting in a breakup and quit a new job in which I felt was not for me. Prior to this I suffered from ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome after an undiagnosed spinal cord injury.
After my resent disappointment I felt extremely lonely, depressed and a failure. A couple of friends had recommended the book and I went out and bought it. I read this book in less than 2 days.
The effect it had on me was overwhelming and life changing! I was able to move on from my "life story" with ease as I found presence and contentment with very few forms in my life. I realised that my life was not my thoughts and that I had been obsessed and locked in thinking for as long as I can remember, resulting in so much pain and suffering.
I have now been able to feel presence and live in happiness for the past 3 months. I no longer feel lonely, I have seen how my ego and my painbody has in the past has had such a detrimental effect on my life.
If you want to be liberaed from pain, suffering and any other kind of unhappiness then go and buy this book. Many of my friends have either borrowed my book or bought a copy and have have experienced similar liberation and freedom from their dysfunctional minds.
This book enabled me to find the off button for the thinking part of my mind. Without thinking about the past and future, there is no suffering and pain.
Thank you Eckhart.
Enlightening, 31 Jul 2008
A very enlightening read for those seeking spiritual enlightenment and wishing to attain a greater understanding of their life's purpose. Whether you believe (or have an interest) in this sort of stuff or not, there will be something to be gained from this text for everyone who reads it.

Woop dadoo, 10 Jul 2008
This book is brilliant. It has sent me on a course I am glad to be on. I can see the truth in all of it, and Know it for my self. For all those who are dubious about this, or think it's rubbish, I can sense/see the spirit force in nature, it's very hard to put into words, but I wouldn't replace that for a million quid, I find my self more interested in the nature outside the window than the tv I am watching. Really don't like TV at all now and used to lean on it like most. I sometimes ask whether it's delusional, but know it is not, you just have to experience it for yourself like so many others are. One of the best if not the most important reads of my life. Hope you can see for youself

Product Description
If you haven't seen Hay House's "Lifestyles" series of gorgeous gift books, there is no better way to acquaint yourself than with publisher/author Louise Hay's You Can Heal Your Life. A bestseller for many years, You Can Heal Your Life has been republished with bright beautiful illustrations in full living colour and exquisite typography--each and every page is a work of art by artist Joan Perrin Falquet. The timeless message of the book is that we are each responsible for our own reality and "dis-ease". Hay believes we make ourselves ill by having thoughts of self-hatred. She includes a directory of ailments and emotional causes for each with a corresponding affirmation to help overcome the illness. For example, the probable cause of multiple sclerosis is "mental hardness, hard-heartedness, iron will and inflexibility". The healing "thought pattern" would be: "By choosing loving, joyous thoughts, I created a loving joyous world. I am safe and free." --P. Randall Cohan

Interesting, 20 Jun 2008
I find this a handy reference when trying to get to grips with tricky conditions that are stubborn to overcome without aggressive drug intervention. Delving into the subconscious is a skill and not always straighforward, and the suggested thought patterns are definitely worth consideration. The statements may not totally line up for everyone with the same condition, so adjusting the phrasing may be necessary until it rings absolutely true. I see this work more from the viewpoint that more kindness and tenderness is needed in a world that is steeped in conflict and aggression, and where better then to start by being kind and tender to ourselves. I don't for a second think this book is intended to create guilt or blame for developing a serious illness, or replace other medical intervention, rather it offers a possible way forward out of many possibilities and will always work alongside traditional interventions.
buy this book and change your life!, 08 Jun 2008
I found this book the most inspiring, life-changing read.I had read 'The Secret' previous to this but it was nowhere near so wonderfully explained as Louise Hay has done for the reader. The language is so simple yet she conveys her thoughts in the most inspirational way, its like she is talking to just you. Her everyday life examples ring so true for all of us,we are all so alike and have been conditioned so. I have been going through alot of difficulties and had lost my faith along the way- not only has she has put me back on track but she has opened a whole new positive world out there for the taking! I feel totally transformed inside and know that this will stay with me forever, it is a feeling from within and though some areas of my life are still problematic-its the way that i am handling them with strength, courage and hope that makes me feel I am being looked after by someone.I also keep refering to it- i hope more people change their lives like i have and am passing this onto you just like someone told me about the book through a chance meeting. It is a wonderful read- one that we can all relate to.
Make sure to look for the right copy if you want the illustrated version!, 31 May 2008
I ordered the paperback copy with the yellow background and half of a heart picture on the cover, because on the page advertising it, it stated that it was a beautifully illustrated book, I quote the following: "has been republished with bright beautiful illustrations in full living colour and exquisite typography--each and every page is a work of art by artist Joan Perrin Falquet." Imagine my disappoinment when the book arrived and it was just a plain paperback book with no illustrations, and for some reason I felt totally unmotivated by the bits and pieces I read in the book as I quickly skimmed through. In fact it annoyed me, as it seemed to be saying that if anything at all was wrong in your life, from health problems to money worries, then it was all your own fault. I was so disgusted, I sent the book back, but ordered it again, this time making sure to get the illustrated version as I wanted to see it. When it came, eventually, after the first copy going astray in post, and had to reorder from another seller, I was very pleased with the look and feel of the book. It is, indeed, beautiful to look at, and this time I read it properly all through.
This time, the message seemed different and not at all harsh and blaming, as the first perusal (of the unillustrated book) had seemed to suggest. Rather, she is saying that it is useless to blame yourself for anything that has gone wrong, but instead to love yourself unconditionally. Also, in the first copy I received, I'm sure I read that she had contracted cancer and had an operation for it. I see in the illustrated copy, that I must have read it wrong, as she states that she did not have the operation as she cured herself of it by changing her thinking and finding out everything she could on how to cleanse her system. So, either the plain copy was misprinted, or I just read it wrong, maybe through having such a negative impression of the book through being so disappointed at not receiving the "beautifully illustrated" copy that I had sent for. I don't know, but the first viewing of it did seem like just another self help book that was blaming the reader for anything and everything that may not be right in their lives, and being blamed for having bills one is unable to pay, is a bit rich. (If you'll pardon the pun!)
Now I'm not sure what I believe about the whole 'brought it on yourself' thing, I really don't believe that everyone is totally responsible for any misfortune that befalls them, because somewhere down the line, they have not been thinking correctly. It is altogether too glib and simplistic to hold with that viewpoint, but I do agree that to be aware of one's thoughts and to try to moniter how you think, and stop yourself from thinking too negatively is to be encouraged. So, positve thinking is the way to go, but I find it hard to believe that this alone will from thenceforth on filter out all unpleasant or unhappy experiences, wherever they may come from or in whatever form they arise. I have a lot of respect for Louise Hay and I believe she has achieved much and undoubtedly helped a lot of people and for that alone, I praise her wholeheartedly, but, I couldn't help but wonder how it came about that she got cancer in the first place when she was teaching this 'correct' thinking to people but nevertheless found herself with this affliction. But, she explained how she believed this came about and why, and yes, viewed in the light of her beliefs, this does seem to make sense and validate her ideas about why things happen the way they do; but, she later goes on to say how her husband left her, when she believed that their relationship was solid, and that she had no concept that happiness like theirs could ever be anything but everlasting. - And this is where I have a problem because this is where her argument seems to fall down, because surely, as the Law of Attraction states, whatever you believe is what you shall manifest and if you have no belief in your happiness ending, then it won't; or rather it shouldn't, but as she admits herself, in her case it did. At least in that respect when her marriage ended and she didn't see it coming and had harboured no fear that it would.
So this is where I see a question that she did not provide the answer to. Quite frankly, it should not have happened, she had no belief that her marriage should end or that her husband would want to leave her, and yet
this is what happened, so the view that 'it is done unto you as you believe' does not appear to be true at all. Yet it is the basis on which the whole Law of Attraction belief is founded. Whatever you focus on, you will attract more of. This is another belief, and yet Louise was not focusing on fear or doubt of her husband wanting to leave her, and yet it happened anyway. But according to the Law of Attraction, it should not have done.
To sum up, I do not think that mere positive thought and belief alone is enough to ensure protection for all, but obviously it is better to think in a positive way than a negative one. Even if negative people's beliefs are said to be more realistic! - Yes, this is so, if you had not heard, being pessimistic is said to be more in line with reality! - I think for personal happiness though, it is surely better to think positively? Thinking in a negative, pessimistic manner is only going to make people feel even more miserable, so having hope and faith is good in that respect, and the more optimistic one can feel, the more likeliehood there should be of things improving, if for no other reason than that your outlook is more cheerful therefore you will feel better, make less mistakes, and people will possibly treat you better because of your sunny disposition. All this should happen anyway with positive thinking, but as to whether it can somehow magically alter the course of anything in the universe is another matter, and this jury is still out on that one, though it is a pleasing concept and one that I'm sure we all would like to be true!
The main thing Louise is saying in this book though, is that you should love yourself, and that is probably the best advice that anyone can give, but you don't need a book to tell you that, but nevermind, this is a beautiful book to own, as long as you get the illustrated version, the pictures in it and the colours make you feel more cheerful anyway and that alone is a good reason to have it to draw inspiration from if you are the kind of person who can be pleasantly affected by pleasant visuals and pleasing touch of a book that is as nice to feel as it is to look at.
hits a very very very low note, 06 Apr 2008
adding guilt to the burden of an ill persons distress with poisonous glib positive thinking, essentially blaming a person for their illness - before they lose their fight with cancer because they just were not thinking positively enough - why not try crystal therapy while your at it

If you read this book with an open mind and actually take action and DO some of the things it suggests... you cannot fail to see the difference in your life.

The main thing Louise is saying in this book though, is that you should love yourself, and that is probably the best advice that anyone can give, but you don't need a book to tell you that, but nevermind, this is a beautiful book to own, as long as you get the illustrated version, the pictures in it and the colours make you feel more cheerful anyway and that alone is a good reason to have it to draw inspiration from if you are the kind of person who can be pleasantly affected by pleasant visuals and pleasing touch of a book that is as nice to feel as it is to look at.
hits a very very very low note, 06 Apr 2008
adding guilt to the burden of an ill persons distress with poisonous glib positive thinking, essentially blaming a person for their illness - before they lose their fight with cancer because they just were not thinking positively enough - why not try crystal therapy while your at it
A bit disappointing, 22 Aug 2008
Considering the title and all the 5 star reviews, I was a bit disappointed with the book. It's the first sex book I ever bought and I decided on this one because of the positive reviews, however I found a lot of the advice fairly common sense and certainly not 'revoluntionary' as the author likes to claim. The first 50 pages deal with 'sex symtoms' and other more general advice but it's really not rocket science to work out by yourself that being stressed at work, drinking too much etc can lead to less sexual desire!
The tips on 'before play', foreplay and oral sex are ok and left me feeling quite happy with myself, have apparently done some things right in the past! There are some positions explained that were new to me but I would have found pictures or sketches helpful, maybe I am thick, but I had to read a couple of them a few times to understand how to do it.
Overall, I had the impression that the author believed that most adults still have pretty outdated and stereotypical views about sexual roles of men and women what I found a bit patronising.
I would recommend this book to younger people who haven't had many sexual experiences or longer-term relationships. But I think most educated people in their thirties or older probably won't need it.
All about sex, through and through. , 20 Sep 2007
I've read the "Sinful Sex", the first book Dr. Pam had and was really, really into it. This followup is all about sex, through and has lots of new materail. She also goes into some detail about "problems" and how to overcome them. A great read for anyone interested in improving their sex life. I also liked "Sex Machine"--Kane and would recommend it along with this one.
SENSATIONAL!, 12 Jul 2007
I LOVED this book! Got this not knowing what to expect but the cover looked hot. It proved to be as hot inside. I'm absolutely impressed with all the tips and ideas. I had no idea there were so many things to try with my partner! And on the thought provoking side I LOVED the idea that sex problems usually have little to do with sex. The one I had with my ex was more about our lifestyle, too stressed for enjoying each other.
Buy this book for loads of fun!
saved my sex life!!, 14 Jun 2007
this book saved my sex life, dr pam has a style of writing uncomparable to anyone else - she takes the taboo out of having 'sex problems' and makes you realise you are worthy of good sex (and how to have it!!) she provides practical tips but with a friendly tone and boosts your sexual confidence..i can't recommend this book highly enough - whether you are having sex problems, or just want to spice up your sex life this is the kind of book that can benefit anyone. dr pam, i salute you!!
FANTASTIC BOOK!, 21 May 2007
I read this when my girlfriend bought it and I completely recommend it. We had some problems in the bedroom so she bought it as a source of info. Not only did it give us a new perspective on what we were going through but also an enormous number of techniques to try. Some quite frankly were real eye openers! Buy this book if you want to learn useful things about your sexlife and have enough very sexy things to try for the next two years.

Great one for the spiritual sceptics , stick with it there is something for everyone in here . Personally reccomended to a few friends something in here for everyone but if your reading it you probably dont need it , if your in doubt go check out the "is that so" chapter at the book store
Books like this one always manage to grab our attention and hold it, as we humans are always looking for answers in our lives and the reasons for our very existence.

very insightful, 30 Jul 2008
I read this book and listened to the oprah show chapter by chapter at the same time (free to download on itunes). It was very useful, very insightful and rich. No matter how many times I will go back to this book, there will always be something new to discover. recommemded.

A life changing book, 03 Sep 2008
I CANNOT SPEAK HIGHLY ENOUGH OF THIS BOOK. THIS TRULY IS A LIFE CHANGING BOOK!
I have read many books on spirituality but this book is still my favourite.
My advice - If you are new to the concepts introduced in this book then, please just be patient and openminded to explore a different belief system. Then see what it can do for you :)
Thank you Louise Hay for helping me to go within!
