Yawn, 26 Oct 2008
I could say that this is a "Whirlwind of a book, transporting the reader into a world of action and adventure"... however I'd be lying.
You buy this book because you have to. However, if you do need to know what the laws and regulations pertaining to water really are, this is your book - and God have mercy on your soul.
Everything you need to know is in here but its layout leaves a huge amount to be desired and it can take eons to actually find the section you want.
Once you have found the relevant section you have to decipher the text, which was definitely influenced by members of the legal profession and as such occasionally makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
Excellent course book for BPEC Water Regualtions, 28 Jun 2006
We recommended this book for students taking our BPEC Water Regaulations Certifcate here at PPL Plumbing Training in York. The book complements the BPEC course and has clear and helpful digrams. Backflow prevention is well documented and clearly explained - a first class book!
An Excellent And Beautifully Presented Book, 06 Oct 2004
I whole heartedly agree with the previous reviewer. This book is a must for anyone following either the C&G 6129 or NVQ2/3 track. The book very clearly and thoroughly explains the UK water regulations and Scottish (2000) byelaws with superb diagrams in full colour and no legal jargon. This book is a credit to the WRAS scheme, truly excellent.
An essential read for any one studying NVQ level 2 Plumbing., 23 Nov 2001
An informative book and a must have for any body taking NVQ level 2 Plumbing and any plumber in general that wants to keep upto date with the latest Water Regulations.
A comprehensive guide to the Companies Act 1985, 05 Dec 2001
This textbook gives a comprehensive guide to the relevant acts with regards to Company Law. It includes the Company Act 1985 as well as the relevant statutory instruments. However, the print is extremely small and quite difficult to read. It does however provide an excellent addition to more comprehensive company law texts and personally i have found it extremely valuable. For law students a statutes book well worth getting at a decent price.
A good starting point, 13 Sep 2008
This text was recommended by my course leader for Contract Law. It was recommended on the advise to use it as a starting-point for further reading, and I'm glad I was given that advice. The book lacks stimulation. It is by no means critical. And to some degree, its content and reasoning on points of law is unreliable.
Half the size & weight of my other law books!, 19 Nov 2007
I have this book and Law of Contract by Richards. This book is great to take when I'm travelling on the train, unlike all my other law books it isn't very big and is light. I do find Richards book easier to read but the cases are very clear in this book.
Not bad, 23 Dec 2006
A concise book that will get you through most of the hard parts. Great for general reading and an overall view of the subject, but perhaps not the best book out there in this area. Very technical at parts, but useful all the same.
First Year Law, 09 Sep 2006
A pretty good text book. A little heavy going, but goes into a lot of the technicalities and cases which are useful for applying to caselaw exams.
very useful, 23 Jan 2004
I really enjoyed reading this book which was my first contact with English private law. In my opinion this book is perfect for foreigners who need an introduction to UK law, especially students with a civil law background. A really clear, concise, structured and interesting first approach to CONTRACT LAW.
Excellent publication if you plan undertake mooting, 05 Aug 2008
This is an excellent book for anyone who is considering participating in a Mooting Competition or contest, or wishes to learn about the skills needed for mooting. At Strode's College, we hold an annual Mooting Competition for A-Level Law students. I consider this publication a valuable tool for developing mooting skills. Highly recommended.
Relevance and clarity, 12 Jan 2008
What I very much liked about the book was that it is written in an engaging, clear, friendly literary style but is also broken up into logical sections with headings that make it easy to go back and find what you want. It is very practical in its approach and comprehensive. Although directed at mooting it would be of great value in giving presentations at Tribunals or any other adversarial setting both for the professional or the lay person giving evidence on their own behalf.
Incredibly useful, 05 Dec 2007
I run at mooting competition and this book has been invaluable over the past few months. There are other textbooks on mooting around, but this goes beyond the usual fare. It has practical advice on how to moot and how to run a competition, even giving sample posters for advertising the competition.
I have recommended this to all my students and highly recommend it to anyone involved in mooting in any capacity.
Not a book at all, 29 Oct 2006
To me a (academic) book is a collection of reasoning thoughts that helps the reader to understand the subject matter. This book is really just a collection of cases and quotes that are quite difficult to read. The authors, if you can call them that (because they simply quote others most of the time) really do very little writing at all. The is almost no analysis in this book. It is just a collection of other people's writings.
I wasted about 6 hours of my life trying to read this rubbish. This book was a required reading on my course, but I sent it back.
I can only assume this is a case of academics recommending other people's books. It get's 2 stars because it does contain a lot of cases on the subject... but you have to make your own analysis.
Simply rubbish.
Wish I had read it sooner!, 30 May 2003
I have just done my exam in this subject and only really started using the book a couple of weeks before and just wished I had opened it sooner!
CASES: There are loads of relevant cases in here. They contain sections of the speeches, commentary by the authors and also, something that is incredibly useful- if an important statute is mentioned in the case it gives you that too! Instead of having to read all the case then try and find the statute then find the section of the statute relevant to the case! Obviously, the cases are not printed in full but the sections it gives you are the most relevant.
STATUTES etc: As said earlier, these sometimes appear with cases. What I wanted to point out here was that this book contains the Articles of the European Convention on Human Rights and the Human Rights Act, obviously very useful!
ARTICLES: These are great for getting that extra depth of understanding.
STRUCTURE: This book is presented in sections. In each section are the relevant cases, articles etc. This makes life a lot easier when preparing for tutorials or revising to have one topic completely presented to you.
Excellent book!
