A comprehensive guide to the Companies Act 1985, 05 Dec 2001
This textbook gives a comprehensive guide to the relevant acts with regards to Company Law. It includes the Company Act 1985 as well as the relevant statutory instruments. However, the print is extremely small and quite difficult to read. It does however provide an excellent addition to more comprehensive company law texts and personally i have found it extremely valuable. For law students a statutes book well worth getting at a decent price.

Excellent and handy, 11 Mar 2007
Very well written, a lot of useful information, explains all you would like to know about all these details. I wasn't aware of all these things you should know when you run a limited company until I read this book. It is rather not a detailed guide to your paper work or documents you would need to write. It is more like a reference manual to different aspects of the organization. If you need to know some details about secretaries, shares, owners, board of directors, etc, you jast open the book and it is there.
A good primer for fulfilling company secretary obligations, 09 Feb 2002
Having used this book for over a year now I have found it an accessible text for provision of legal obligations when setting up and running a limited company in the UK. The book lends itself to the typical scenario where one individual fulfils the role of company secretary, accountant and managing director. It has a good index, and has proved particularly useful with (1) holding and minuting official company meetings; (2) Basic company accounts preparation. However, it does not pretend to be an accounting book, and it is recommended that the purchaser also acquire a text on basic company book-keeping - do these yourself and minimise unavoidable accounting fees!

An absolute must for anyone studying Company Law at LLB level, 15 Oct 2006
This book is one of the easiest to read and understand. If you are studying Company Law on the LLB, I would highly recommend you purchase this book. Divided logically into neat chapters with self-explanatory headings, this book will take you through the maze of company law and teach you to enjoy its intricacies.
The book contains useful summaries of key cases and explains them alongside the legal principles involved so that you can easily recall and refer to them in exams.
Alone the book is not enough - you will need an additional casebook. However, if you are new to company law, then this is a good starting point. A relatively slim volume that is far cry from the daunting lengths of some legal text books, the book clearly defines the essential principles of its topic, without clouding the issue with thousands of footnotes and judgment extracts.
Highly recommended.

Goodes book "Commercial law" 2nd Edition is quite interesting. It encapsulates the basics of the commercial law transaction,if not the whole of it. As a Postgraduate student of Commercial Law in the University of Wales Swansea,i use the book extensively and the clarity and ease with which i could understand the book greatly helps. I find the chapters on Money and Payments equally interesting. As a Lawyer,i am not quite knowledgeable in the legal characteristics of money but Using Prof Goode`s book has greatly enhanced my understanding of the concept. Particularly i want to commend the author and the publishers for the clarity in production. As a Postgradute Student in a foreign land,i can say that Goode`s book is sine qua non amongst the commercial law textbooks i have come across in England. Keep up the good work,Prof.

The most up-to-date book on the market for exam use in Company Law, 07 Mar 2008
I pre-ordered this book for my Company exam in Jan 2008, it arrived the morning on the day of the exam and I have to say it was well worth the express delivery charge as this is the best book on the market for Company law, even better then the text books!
As ever this series offers students the opportunity to look at real exam questions and also provides a full answer to each question. The book covers all the modules one would expect to find on the LLB Company Law module.
The best thing about this book is that the questions incorporate the Companies Act 2006 fully into each answer and thats why this book sits ahead on its competitors.
A must for any Company law student!

One of the most comprehensive Employment Law texts, 20 Dec 2008
I am currently at university reading employment law at postgraduate level, and this book is one of the set texts for my course. Unlike one of the other reviewers, I think this book is extremely accessible in its style and, also, comprehensive in its coverage of the subject matter. If you're studying employment law at postgraduate level, this is one of the few employment law textbooks that is written for Master's level students. (Another excellent text is Deakin & Morris Labour Law, however a new edition is desperately needed as the most recent (4th) edition was published in 2005). Therefore, Smith & Thomas is a more up-to-date choice and contains chapters on the new TUPE Regs 2006 and Age Regs 2006.
Excellent, would recommend to all employment law students, 14 Jul 2008
Smith & wood's employment law is well written, interesting and not at all boring as the other review would suggest.
I used this book and only this book in my degree and got a 2.1. Some areas of employment law can be quite dry but that is no fault of the book. To gain the high grades you have to be prepared to do the reading and this book is extremely thorough, the writers' passion for the subject really shines through and makes it an interesting read.
The subjects are set out clearly. But if you are someone who likes bulletpoints and pretty diagrams etc then buy a nutshells book, but dont expect to get a good degree!
I will also be using this book for my masters degree in employment law.
Truly the most inaccessible law text book , 07 Jun 2008
Everything about this book is designed to make learning employment law a chore. From the poor layout and structure to the unengaging style of writing, this is certainly a text to avoid. I have yet to meet a single student with anything positive to say about this book and I can in no way recommend it. It seems I have paid £30 for something that will end up as a door stop.

Absolutely Wonderful., 15 Oct 2003
A good point of reference., 28 Mar 2004
This book covers much of the information, required on today's LL.B and LL.M courses. The references to the case law are very good and questions asked at the end of each reference point, draw the reader to the fact that there is more to do than just 'reading' the text. The cases are well summarised and often, it is not always necessary to read the full case, as the relevant points and judgments are all clearly marked. A very well laid out book, with ample commentary, obviously written in a modern context.
