nice and pretty accurate, 16 Mar 2005
Well nothing more to say. This book has nice standardize(not all of them)tests.
Don't buy this edition if you have the 3rd edition, 25 Apr 1999
Don't buy this edition if you have the 3rd ed., only the cover is changed from the 3rd edition, not even a single word is different (I wasted $6.00 + shipping in buying it). The book is excellent, though it could have used an additional (2nd) or a brand new IQ test in this edition
Should be made clear in discription., 17 Apr 2007
I bought this as a fun learning tool for my grandchildren. Unfortunately the questions are geared to American children and so are unsuitable for British children. I have therefore returned this item.
My 4-year old loves this!, 24 Aug 1999
Each page has 3 questions and fun illustrations, with the answers on the next page (also with fun illustrations). Covers a wide variety of Preschool level topics, from numbers and colors, to logic, patterns, shapes and thinking skills. A great item to have along anytime you need to "kill time" (like sitting in a restaurant or on an airplane). I highly recommend it!
Excellent Companion, 04 Sep 2007
It is so good that Edexcel have published this A2 follow up to their excellent AS text book produced last year. Once again this covers everything the students need to know to get a high grade. I will be able to face my students with confidence knowing I have this idea companion to hand.
Usually reliable answers to frequently asked questions, 27 Nov 2003
Richard Bewes has spent a lifetime hearing and responding to the many questions people ask about Christian faith.
Some of the questions he answers include:
Can you explain evil?
Why doesn't God intervene?
Where does Jesus fit in?
Why am I stuck with Adam?
Is faith a leap in the dark?
Is the Bible a unique authority?
Can I lose my salvation?
Why should Christians suffer?
Why are Christians a problem?
Some of the bible passages discussed include:
Genesis 1 - The six days of Creation
Genesis 22 - Why sacrifice Isaac?
Leviticus -an enjoyable read?
Numbers 22:28 -a talking donkey?
Matthew and Luke -Jesus' genealogy
Matthew 24:36 -The unknown date?
1 Peter 3:21 -Baptism saves us?
The answers given are always thought-provoking, though I do not endorse every thing he says.
But the book is well worth reading and should stimulate thought about some of the questions we all ask about the bible and Christian faith.
Highly recommended.
give it a miss, 20 Sep 2007
Im using this for finals. im all for realism with the whole slightly ambiguous question thing, but these guys are really good at it. and occassionally the answers are silly/wrong. there are better books out there that do the same thing.
Full of mistakes, 28 May 2007
I've been using this book to revise for my final MBBS. It has lots of questions in single best answer (or best of fives) and extended matching formats which given that so few books have SBA type questions, should make it a winner but it's riddled with badly written and sometimes just plain wrong questions. Some of these are just due to badly worded questions but others are either using out of date evidence or go completely against whats written in other books. One example anti dsDNA is stated as being a more sensitive test for SLE than ANA, it's not it's more sensitive. More worryingly the explanation they give quotes figures which are just plain wrong suggesting this is more than just a simple misprint.
The book is good in that the standard is set at a high level, more than most question books for final MBBS, and it has 1000 questions but it is very disconcerting when you get questions wrong and you're not sure whether to trust the answers given.
If you buy this book be careful to check your mistakes against another book to make sure they really are your mistakes, or alternatively wait for the next edition.
Useful for MCQ exams, 22 Jun 2006
Being a 3rd year medical student at Manchester, I've found this book extremely useful for the SBA/MCQ questions that come up in the 'Progress Test' - some of the questions on the exam have been identical to one's in the book! However, explanations are rarely given as to why a particular option is the correct one - this makes it less useful for last-minute cramming, but if you have the time to go throuogh each question with oxford clinical handbook/kumar/davidson etc. whilst answering them it can be a really efective way of revising
