Great Book for any starter genealogist!!!, 11 May 1999
I truly enjoyed this book. My daughters been trying to buy it for me for quite some time. Of course that was the previous version...I didn't think I needed it AND then I hit a brick wall. I asked her to get it for me for Mother's Day, sure enough, it helped! Matthew and April, Thanks!!!

A must for the beginner, 23 Aug 2005
If you are thinking about starting your family tree then this is definatly the book for you. It explains in simple terms where you need to go to find different information and what you are looking for. Also includes a great contacts section which was really useful.
Family History researching, 25 Dec 2004
This is an excellent book for the beginner with many very helpful references and addresses. Thoroughly recommended.
An ideal introduction to tracing your family history., 27 Feb 2002
Although written by a retired professional genealogist, it is very readable and an excellent introduction to the subject. It covers not only the usual topics of what information is available and from what sources etc., but also the basics of how to keep records, how to store and file all the information you gather, exactly what to look for in old records, etc. There are also precise instructions on how to actually draw up your family tree; all very valuable guidance to beginners to the subject which is often missing in other books.

Written for the American market, not the UK one, 15 Nov 2008
I purchased this book in hope that it would assist me (based in the UK) to research in Eastern Europe. What a disappointment! It is written from an American perspective with links to the American Society of this and that, but with no UK alternatives.
Also, if your especial area of interest is the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad (which happens to be one of mine), this isn't mentioned at all - it skips from Poland to the Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia and Lithunia, completely ignoring the little bit of Russia in between Poland and the latter. It also ignores Russia as a whole, although at least part of Russia is in Eastern Europe and borders the Baltic coast (both reasons I would expected at least some coverage of the country).

Product Description
There's a good deal of scaremongering around about how the Internet creates socially-isolated individuals. What these critics forget is that the Internet is a powerful tool for bringing people together. One example is family trees. There are hundreds of sites on the Web which help trace your ancestors--and Genealogy Online arms you with all the tools you need to build your family tree in cyberspace. Besides covering Internet basics, Genealogy Online points you to the most influential chat rooms, explains how to get e-mail-based family tree newsletters, tells you where to buy commercial software which will generate surname lists with links to web pages and sources of information and lists newsgroups which might help you track down relatives. At times there is too much explanation of the basics of the Internet, and some readers might wonder why there are frequent references to Mormons. (It's a Mormon religious duty to research families, and Mormons have created many useful genealogy resources.) However if you are genuinely trying to hunt down a long-lost family member or you are a budding family historian, your detective work will be much quicker if you follow the tips and clues in this well-researched and informative book.--Justin Hunt

Adobe Premier Elements for Dummies, 21 Feb 2006
Beware-this book does not cover Elements 2, but most of it is applicable. Clearly written with a wealth of information that isn't relayed with too much in the way of 'jokey' humour that is laddled on in some of the Dummy books. Read in conjunction with the full Adobe manual supplied with the software & most of your questions will be answered.
