A brilliant buy, 17 Dec 2008
Honestly, this is brilliant. The high way code and every question and answer you need for your theory test
10/10
even my driver instructor went out and brought this when he saw mine.
Does what it says on the tin..., 29 Nov 2008
The Official DSA Theory Test for Car Drivers and The Official Highway 2008/09 Edition.
Is worth having the up to date edition. Do not settle for out of date cheaper version of last years lot.
Note: would recommend getting the complete edition (this one is book only) that also includes DVD as that will help with "Hazard Perception" and further aspects of the Theory Test.

Extremely Helpful and Insightful, 07 Jan 2009
This book belongs to my sister and despite the fact I passed my driving test before reading the book I still found it incredibly helpful when it came to car insurance. I could completely relate to what the writer experienced whilst learning to drive. The book has been passed around family and friends who all agreed the book was helpful, I have even caught my boyfriend having a sneaky peek.
A really good book for learners, very encouraging and will boost the confidence of those learning when they read that others have gone through the same things.
Essential reading for anyone learning to drive, 15 Dec 2008
As a driving instructor, I come across many books aimed at helping learner drivers. Many of them are very 'textbooky' and not very appealing to read. However, this book makes a refreshing change. It is packed full of useful information and thoroughly enjoyable to read as the author's writing style is down to earth and friendly.
So many learners feel silly asking questions that they think they should know the answer to; believe me, you will find the answer to every question you could ever think of in this little book.
This is essential reading for ANYONE learning to drive - not just the girls!

Combine this with a great instructor and you're onto a winner..., 11 Aug 2008
I've been trying to pass my test for a while now and always seem to get things cropping up that put my driving on the backseat (excuse the pun!).
However after purchasing this book I have successfully managed to take driving lessions for 2 months now and have made a lot of progress. This books tips on making time made a difference to me. Now I cannot wait to pass my driving test and use my new found skill (because driving is a skill).
This book gives you the lighthearted encouragement you know your friends want to give you but have given up on the idea of you passing your test.
I followed the tips in this book and actually got rid of my partners driving intructor (the gossip and unreliable type will NEVER get you through your test). Since then he is happily progressing with his new instructor. I also followed the tips and have found an instructor who understands I get panicky (once in a while) and doesn't shout or make me feel really small. I've even done my emergency stop without any problems-thanks to this books heads up on the situation (and of course my instructor).
This book is a must for any girl/ladee-I would even suggest it be a stample on the list of parents who have daughters turning 17 as this book will help them so much.
Seriously get this before starting lessons, 09 Jun 2008
Such a good read, i love this book, still reading it as i'm on my forth lesson. It's really funny in places, had me in tears. Teaches breathing exercises, stocking up on rescue remedy, what shoes/clothes to wear whilst driving, snippets from previous learners. Honestly get this truly inspirational.
A useful addition to any learner's bookshelf..., 05 Jan 2008
I first heard about this book a while back but I didn't actually buy it until very recently. From reading the other reviews it was obviously quite a positive sounding book to read and so I took the plunge and bought my own copy. At the moment I'm taking driving lessons and I found that this book really helped me. It has lots of useful hints and tips for us lady-drivers out there and is also clearly laid out with sections on before, during and after lessons aswell as some brief sections on buying cars and insurance. I particularly like the inclusion of other people's personal experience in driving related matters. It really gave me the idea that driving is nothing to fear, it's something to be enjoyed. This book might not be for everyone but I found it incredibly useful. Overall, a great product and it would make an ideal gift for any young learner driver out there.

Learn to Ride, 03 May 2008
I've just passed my Motorcycle Theory test and if only I had read this book earlier and I would'nt been half as nervous as I was. This book is fantastic. Ideal for the absolute beginner to the experienced rider. I would thoroughly recommend it
The only book you will need to pass your motorcycle test?, 13 Apr 2008
One word sums up this book - "thorough". The book genuinely covers everything that you will need to know to complete your CBT, pass the theory test and successfully pass your practical test.
Well presented throughout, with helpful pictures, diagrams and photos, this book is brilliant. The style of writing is pleasant, describing material in enough detail to be complete, but not so much as to become heavyweight.
The current edition of this book does now include the questions you may be asked in a 2008 theory test, as the book was revised with questions current from September 2007 onwards (at the time the number of questions in the test increased to 50). The current version (which I have) is ISBN #978-1844252206 and looks like that in the Amazon photo above.
Although you could pass the test with just this book, I would still recommend the Focus Multimedia Test Success Hazard Perception DVD-ROM and the official DSA Theory Test for Motorcyclists CD-ROM. This will ensure that you have experience of the mechanisms used to test you in the theory test.
I wouldn't recommend the DSA Theory Test for Motorcyclists book, which duplicates the questions at the back of "Learn to Ride". Nor would I recommend buying a copy of the Highway Code, as for learning purposes, you can read it on the DirectGov website.
In summary, if you can only get one book to help you pass your motorbike tests, make it this one.
Excellent book, 18 Jan 2008
This is my first review but I felt compelled to put down how good I thought this book was. I checked the other reviews before buying this and it is excellent value for money. I'm only marking it down (to 4 stars)as it refers to the pre september 2007 theory test (35 questions changed in Sept 07 to 50 questions) and i wonder if the question bank is fully up to date. Nevertheless an excellent book that helped me to sail through the theory test with less than a fortnight from ordering it to picking up my pass certificate. so many thanks.
A must read for any beginner, 12 Dec 2007
I read a friends copy of this out of boredom when i had nothing else to read and to say i was surprised was an understatement.
I have already passed my test, but still found this interesting.
it's surprising just how much of the basics you have forgotten.
It gives you everything from basic riding skills and tehniques - right up to sitting the actual test's themselves.
For once an honest book that actually delivers what it says on the cover.
I would recommend this for all beginners thinking about taking up riding and also - Motorcycle Foundation's Guide to Motorcycling Excellence: Skills, Knowledge and Strategies for Riding Right , for when you have passed :)
very informative, 31 Aug 2007
Very clearly written with detailed photos it will tell you everything you need to know about motorbiking.

I bought this latest book to prepare my theory test, I studied the Highway Code first and then I did all the practices on the book. And I had full marks on my theory test, thanks to this book. The content is brilliant, however, I think the design is so so, they could do better.
If you want to pass your test, buy this book and of course you have to study hard, then you should have no problem at all.

Don't let its size put you off of tackling it because it's laid out in such an easy to read manner. It includes the Highway Code as well, so there is no need to buy any other books once you have this one. In fact, all we need to buy now is a CD Rom for practising the theory test and we'll be off to a promising start. Wish us luck!

The Official DSA Complete Learner Driver Pack 2008/09 EditionThe complete learner driver pack does exactly what it says on the tin so to speak, Three books packed with lots of information on how to pass your theory and practical tests and ideal for people on a intensive driving course, and ADIs teaching people to drive, giving intensive driving lessons or a intensive driving course.
The theory test book gives every question that you might be asked and gives each with an answer and explanation located on the other side of the page. Practice elsewhere is needed to pass the hazard perception test, the full Highway Code is also provided. Which is a must for any one having driving lessons London or else where.
The other two books are part of the DSA series on teaching people how to drive. The first presents itself as a logbook helping you to get up to the standard required to pass the practical test. Which includes automatic driving lessons, in auto cars, This is good if you are being taught by a parent, as it will answer questions that they do not know and outline the standard you need to reach. Cheap driving lessons will still get you to test standard quicker, The third book provides more details of each part of driving with examples, used throughout to keep it interesting, so it will not be a driving crash course a great buy. Have a good driving week.
Three Books in One help both theory and practical tests, 02 Sep 2008
This "complete learner driver pack" does exactly what it promises to do. Three books packed with information on how to pass your theory and practical tests are ideal for learner drivers and those who are teaching people to drive.
The theory test book gives every question that you could be asked in 2008/2009 and gives each with an answer and explanation conveniently located on the other side of the page. Whilst practice elsewhere is required to pass the hazard perception, this is what got me past the multiple choice part of the test. The full highway code is also provided as a appendix for any other questions.
The other two books are also part of the DSA series on teaching people how to drive. The first presents itself as a log book helping you to get up to the "L5" standard required to pass the final practical test. This is great if you are being taught by a parent, guardian or other as it will answer questions that they have forgotten and outline the standard you need to reach. The third book provides more details of each part of driving with examples, pictures and colour used throughout to keep it interesting and fun. Overall, an excellent buy.
good but..., 28 Aug 2008
I bought this on amazon as it is way cheaper than it is on any other site and after using it for my theory test revision I found that where the multiple choice questions section was brilliant as all the questions on the actual test were on this cd-rom so if you revise with it as I did you cover all the questions and I scored 49/50. This was all well and good but when it came to the hazard perception it was a bit of a let down as there were only 10 clips to practice with when theres 14 clips on the real test. This was definately the harder part of the test and the part that needs more practice especially when theres limited free hazard clips online! so beware that is the disadvantage of this pack...
Do all the theory test exercise.., 05 Mar 2008
and you are guaranteed to pass the theory test with high score.
The hazard perception is also very useful.
However, the practical disk is not much use, it cant beat the real driving experience.
Great Book, 24 Oct 2007
I have to recommend this book. It contains all the questions you need for the test.Cool

Great, great material, shame about the typesetting, 17 Sep 2008
This is probably *the* most valuable book out there - it literally may save your life!!! Really good material and it differentiates itself from, say, Roadcraft, by focusing on the mental processes involved in driving. As I read it I came across many, many, "wow, I hadn't thought about it like that" moments! Every driver should buy and read this book; I've been recommending it to friends and family.
However.... the typesetting of the book is absolutely dreadful, and this is a real shame because it makes the material visually quite hard to read. Ironic for a book focusing on mental processes! Hence the 4 stars but don't let this stop you buying it, because I can guarantee you'll learn a great deal from reading it.
A must read for ALL drivers of any vehicles, 28 Aug 2007
I passed my driving test 10 months ago, I bought this book within a week of passing my test. The book is certainly worth paying a few pounds for as it could really save your life or someone elses.
As a novice driver I have come across quite a lot of really bad driving already, to the point where I now think that all drivers should have some form of re-test every 10 years or at the very minimum be forced to go to and listen to a one day lecture on safer driving and thinking.
Until that time all drivers should read this book at least once, the book shows you that driving is not something you just do automatically with your limbs you should be useing your brain to THINK about your actions and that of other road users.
A good bit of advice from the book talks about driving as a team, we are all on a team even though the other drivers may change along the way, but the ultimate aim of the team is to ensure that you and your fellow team members all get home safely.
There is so much advice and so much to think about when you are driving that you will wonder why this is not part of the driving test as standard. I quite often dip into the book to refresh my thinking about certain driving aspects.
Perfect gift, 03 Nov 2006
This book (a recent birthday gift) captures superbly how to progress from a purely "functional" driver to a very "safe" one. The difference is in how much control you achieve over the dangers you are in and what happens to you. Having been in police and corporate training for over 20yrs, it shows all the things and more that I have been coaching to drivers and often struggled to fully explain.
Whether a novice just through the test or a high mileage experienced driver, it is certain to open your mind to a new level of how to keep yourself safe on the road. It is also an addictive read in itself too, and I totally recommend it.
Surprisingly Different, very easy and totally useful, 04 Oct 2006
After more than 20 years of driving I wish I had found a book like this sooner. It is both different and brilliant! It does exactly what it promises, and reveals the skills that can really keep you safe on the road. After reading this book you will know WHY it is your THINKING that must keep you safe. Then HOW it works, and HOW to use it to improve your own driving. All in one package.
It is laid out clearly and in a very logical structure, so that you can easily dip in and out of the topics. The way the skills are explained is also very easy to understand and to use. There is a constant flow of helpful tips and information on every page, from start to finish.
The foreword, by the head of the Driving Instructors Association, says, "... without question it can help reduce the huge toll of fatalities and injuries on the roads". I think I agree.
The author obviously has a passion for the subject, and the relaxed style is a 'good read' in itself too.
This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to drive more safely, and more enjoyably.
Better Thinking Skills Will Prevent Crashes, 24 Sep 2006
Excellent! The best road safety manual you'll ever read! As the title implies, this book is all about encouraging drivers to become thinking drivers; it is about cooperating with other road users; it is about managing risk, not apportioning blame; and, most importantly, it is about the one thing missing from driver training today - EDUCATION.
"...the true Education element of road safety has been given the least opportunity to contribute", says the author.
Stephen Haley presents the reader, in Skill 1 (`chapter' is replaced by the word `skill'), with a set of beliefs. For example:
"Safe driving is in my thinking. It is about actively managing risk with the decisions I make." (belief 2)
"Preventing a collision is more important than who would be to blame for it." (belief 3)
This book is for everyone:
*Teachers in schools educating the drivers of the future
*ADIs and anyone involved in driver training
*Those who drive regularly as part of their work
*Those who drive the kids to school, do the shopping and visit friends
*Those who passed their driving test long ago, whether or not they have had an accident in that time
*Confident drivers
*Timid drivers
*Advanced drivers
*Novice drivers
*Elderly drivers
Society needs this book. BUY IT! READ IT! LIVE BY IT!

BUY IT! READ IT! LIVE BY IT!
Road Craft, 06 Mar 2006
An essential guide to anyone serious about Motorcycling. Shows you how to ride quickly, smoothly and safely. Use it a skill for life. Safe Riding!
Advanced Motorcycling?, 03 Jan 2006
More of an advertisment for IAM training than a manual of guidance and techniques. True, there are a few tips here and there but not a lot for the novice m/biker (let alone an experienced m/biker who are presumably the IAM's target); for instance, no diagrams of riding lines or road positioning. Although published in 1997, specific information and the photographs need to be updated and the content beefed-up. Very disappointing.

Review written by Diane Hall, DSA(ADI),TFT-Alg., author of 'L of a way 2 Pass'.
Excellent book, I passed my theory without any problem!!!, 19 Aug 2008
I bought this latest book to prepare my theory test, I studied the Highway Code first and then I did all the practices on the book. And I had full marks on my theory test, thanks to this book. The content is brilliant, however, I think the design is so so, they could do better.
If you want to pass your test, buy this book and of course you have to study hard, then you should have no problem at all.
A massive aid to Theory Test success, 02 Jun 2008
Studying this book helped me get an almost perfect score in my Theory Test. It's incredibly easy to use, and contains every single question you could possibly be asked on the test. I would recommend it to absolutely anybody who wants to ace their Theory - it'll make you unstoppable.
Brilliant, 31 May 2008
If you are wanting to take your theory test then i would recommend that you read through this first as it really helps. It is easy to understand and contains excellent advice.
Excellent - A must Have, 29 Mar 2008
I would certainly recommend this to everyone and it will help you greatly in preparing for your Theory test. I pass my theory and hazard perception first time with the help of this book.
Informative, 14 Feb 2008
The driving school we use told us to get a copy of this book as there is no better on the market. They were correct. Everything a learner could possibly need to know is in here.
