The most brilliant children's Bible, 01 Nov 2008
I have to say I agree completely with all the other 5 star reviews. This is the most amazing children's Bible I have ever seen (and with four children and their friends I have seen A LOT!). It is the Gospel, it is the tale of God's love for mankind, it is deep yet simple. The words are very well written and the pictures are simply gorgeous. In all it is thoroughly amazing. I have bought one for my family and one for a friend's family. Well worth the money; a great investment and good value.
Not just bible stories!, 16 Jul 2008
This isn't just an anthology of disconnected bible stories. It is an introduction to biblical theology, Christology, and soteriology. It is about the "Big Picture" of salvation history. After finishing this bible for the first time my five year old son exclaimed, "The whole bible is about Jesus isn't it Daddy!" What more needs to be said? This book is quite literally the best children's bible that it is possible to buy. Even the illustrations are theologically sound! I can't recommend it more highly.
Clear Gospel Presentation, 01 Mar 2008
This book is a wonderful resource for explaining God's plan for Salvation through His 'forever King' Jesus Christ. This has been thought provoking reading for our young son, prompting him to ask many questions and even be a witness for Jesus at age 2! He loves to hear the stories and look at the fantastic art work in this book. We have even noticed unsaved friends pick it up and read for themselves the simplicity of the Gospel and learn of the Love of God for them! Every family should have one, I have bought 3 already as gifts! Highly recommended if you can only buy one book for your child get this one!!
Not just cute stories!, 08 Aug 2007
This is the best book of children's Bible stories I have found so far. Rather than the usual trite tales with a slight moral bent, this clearly communicates God's plan for the salvation of mankind in a way children (and adults) can understand. What is particularly refreshing is that it doesn't gloss over unpleasant facts like man's rejection of God and God's subsequent anger which are vital to graps if anyone is to understand why they need Jesus. Despite that, the big picture of the Bible is set out in a loving, humble way with gentle challanges to make kids think rather than preaching. If anyone finds this book unpalitable, it is because the gospel is at work in them, not because the book is insensitive or cringe-making. On top of all this the book is very nicely illustrated and makes great bedtime reading.
the best bible for children!, 02 Aug 2006
Having spent many hours reading Christian books to children, this is the best book yet! The illustrations are beautiful, but most importantly this book shows children how God's plan in the Bible fits together. It shows how the whole Bible is pointing to Jesus. My 4 year old daughter wants me to read on and on, and really seems to be grasping the message. A great present , and also a great resource both in the home, and at Sunday school.

If you are going to buy that special child one book in thier life, then this has to be it. Each story is quite short but illustrated to attract the attention of children of all ages. The words used to tell the stories will bring this Bible to life for any child. A must for that special Christianing, Birthday or Christmas present or even just to tell the child you love them enough to chose such a special book. Buy and enjoy!

Pretty retellings....., 05 Sep 2008
I was mislead by the title and expected a bible (well, ok, extracts)for children. I did not expect retellings of the stories with inaccuracies thrown in. Correct me if I am wrong, but nowhere, for example, does it specify THREE Kings in the Nativity. Three gifts, yes, but not kings. Or Magi. Nit picking? Probably, but why make up details that are not in the original text?
IF the book had been titles "stories from the Bible" I would not have bought it and would have avoided disappointment.
On the plus side the illustrations are very pretty and 'tis true my children enjoy listening to the stories, even if they are read by a grumpy old pedant like me.
Dumbed down and dull, 01 Nov 2007
I am sorry to have to write such a negative review. But we were given this bible as a present for our young daughter by a well meaning Aunt. While we appreciated the idea and present - this book just has too many mis-interpretations of the original text to feel comfortable with. I do not want my child to be put of Chritianity when she realises that romanticised stories peddled by this book don't wash with the real world. The bible is a complex text whose interpretation needs serious scholarship and I am afraid this book lacks the scholarship to be able to translate the stories into a child-friendly format. The point of many stories is so skewed that it makes you wince. The glossy cover illustration is not really representative of the content. Most stories don't have illustrations - certainly not enough to hold the attention of a child. The illustrated childrens bible looks much better.
lovely childrens bed time story book, 02 Nov 2001
Having travelled to my sisters house and forgot to take any bed time reading books for my 5 year old I found this osborne childrens bible on a book shelf in her house. Emma thoroughly enjoyed the stories because they were so well writen with children in mind. The stories are easy to understand and have nice pictures on each page, also each chapter follows on from the previous one, they have some basic reference to the people in the previous stories (this was done in an easy enough way for Emma to point this out). I offered to buy Emma a new book the next day while we were in town but she asked if we could read some more from the bible book. I think this book would make a lovely christening/birthday present for a small child.

Strong and Study for heavy usage., 02 Apr 2008
This is the other bible I am currently reading, this is the one I carry in my backpack. It has a very study metal shell, thus it's name, it has a magnetic clasp to keep it closed. I pretty much killed a bible about every year to year and a half by carrying it around in my backpack every day. This bible solves that problem. It is small, compact, and very durable. The metal Bible comes in a variety of colors and designs I have this green one with the dog tags and my wife had my initials engraved in the dog tag before giving it to me as a gift a few summers ago. There are currently, 2 Silver designs, black, orange, red and hot pink. The NLT - New Living Translation is also a great reading edition, both this and the TNIV are newer translations based on modern scholarship and are very accessible to today's readers.
Note: The Silver, Green and Orange are old stock and are NLT version1 the red and vlack are the NLT Second Edition. Next reprint of the others will be the revised NLT.
coolest bible ever!, 17 Oct 2004
I bought this bible for myself a few months ago and since then have had to buy 3 more for friends cos everyone loves it. The metal case is very protective and looks really nice. The NLT version is written in everyday english which is simple to understand. It is also an absolute bargain for this price and would make a great gift, Buy it!!!
The Word, in a super cool, super portable edition, 22 Apr 2004
This the cleverest design for a teenager's Bible I've ever seen. It comesin several terrific styles, like silver with the semblance of a flip-topcan embossing and "Thirsty ?" written on it, a neon apple green with aname tag embossing and "Identified", and a wonderful bright orange with a"One-Way" arrow. It has a magnetic flap, and the back and front coversare hinged; the entire package looks very sturdy and is quite light. As expected in such a slimline format, the font size is small, though I'veseen worse in Bibles of this proportion, and if you have good vision (orgood spectacles) there shouldn't be a problem; after all, this is a travelBible, not a study version. Other details to this Bible are: It doesnot have the words of Jesus in red, and the only "extras" are three handylists in the back of the volume: "Great Topics in the Bible", "GreatStories in the Bible", and "Great Verses in the Bible". This "Metal Bible" should not be limited to teens either; it would be aworthy investment for any adult who works with or teaches young people, orone that just wants a nifty stylish Bible for their briefcase or purse. The Word: Take it with you wherever you go, and look cool doing it ! The New Living Translation is ideal for young people, as it reads in thesame plain and simple language that would be used in a novel. This makesfor an excellent introduction to scripture, and one that will bring theBible to life in words that are easy to understand. Mark 10:14 New Living Translation: "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them !For the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these". King James Version: "Suffer the little children to come unto me, andforbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God" New King James Version: "Let the little children come to Me, and do notforbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God".
A canned book of Refreshing good news!, 20 Nov 2003
This relatively small bible, is a great version to carry around where ever you are. The metal case keeps it clean and prevents the pages getting dog-eared when kept in such places as school bags. Although it is small, the print is not so small that you require a magnifying glass, and the funky cover does mean its a book you won't be ashamed of on campus (or where ever)-instead it is likely to be noticed by people who will enquire about what your reading!!
the best, 17 Sep 2003
This is the best bible I have had, clear print, easy to understand, sleek looking, hard wearing case, not to heavy, fits easily into bag. Not just for teens adults will love it too.

Great bedtime book, 19 Nov 2006
My 4 year old loves this . At the end of each story , are some questions and prayers . Its also very attractive , a great bedtime book .
My Good Night Bible, 12 Apr 2003

This is a lovely, simple story for young children. The book is beautifully illustrated and I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to teach their children spanish.
Great Book, 05 Mar 2005
I highly recommend this book,it is well illustrated, with good colours to keep the kids interested, not so much text (which is large print) that they would get bored. It's a good way to introduce children to the bible in a way that will keep them interested.
A Must Have !!!!!!!, 06 Aug 1999
I highly highly recommend this book. I have been using it for close to 2 years now. I have no children of my own, but the children in the neighborhood all think they live here ! LOL -- how cute. They range in ages from 6 to 17. The older kids like to have the chance to interact with the younger ones. Reading these stories does just that. Its easy, so easy to understand. The beginning of each story sites the place in the Bible where the scripture can be found. This is excellent for people who want to make the transition with older children to their own Bibles. They can see where in the Bible their favorite stories are found. The kids in this neighborhood love it. They have me read it to them every time they are over. Its easy to understand, and is very colorful. I highly recommend this book. Its a must have !
Friendly and fun way to introduce Jesus to your kids, 19 Jun 1999
I have been reading this to my six year old for about two years now, one easy-to-read chapter each night. We've been through it now about 7 times and he still really enjoys the stories and pictures. I think Karyn and Dennas have done a great job in simplifying the Bible and making it kid-friendly. I like the simple interpretations, too!
simple, wonderful, captivates the young mind, 12 May 1999
I have been using this book every other day since 1995 during the 20 minutes worship sessions with my group of preschoolers. They understand the stories, and remember them too! From time to time, I would show them the pictures and they are able to tell me the title of the stories. It's one of their favorites at reading time when they select books and "read" for themselves. Because I realize the impact of the stories, I usually give children who are leaving their very own copy. For some, it's their first introduction to Jesus.
Short length stories, wonderful bedtime read., 06 May 1999
This has 'cute' illustrations that children love to look at and toddler-level wording that they can really understand. This has been the favorite children's book for my 2 year old for quite some time. Every bedtime it's 'I want Bible dory!!!' Worth every penny!

I liked this version of the Bible. It's got a sense of humour that would appeal to youngsters I reckon, and which, if we're honest, is rather lacking in the Original...
I collected five volumes in the series and it certainly gets me reading the story in this simplified form. Great characters, great drama and as some of us will know - a happy ending!

Cheeky Korean Christians, 16 Sep 2008
I liked this version of the Bible. It's got a sense of humour that would appeal to youngsters I reckon, and which, if we're honest, is rather lacking in the Original...
I collected five volumes in the series and it certainly gets me reading the story in this simplified form. Great characters, great drama and as some of us will know - a happy ending!
Excellent book for reading to children., 11 Dec 1998
I am a mother of three children. I have used this book for years to read at bedtime. Children ages 5-10 love to answer the questions at the end of each story. Each story is approximately 10-12 minutes long and is true to the Bible.
We love this book!, 30 Nov 1998
This Bible story book preserves as much of the Biblical language that it can while still remaining crystal-clear to children. That way when they are older and are ready to transition to their own Bibles, they will already be familiar with the language used in the Bible. We ue this book every day with our five children who range in age from 8 months to 11 years.
great for adults as well as children, 30 May 1998
The Old Testament can be laborious to read (& understand) - here it is in easy format!
