Clear Your Clutter!, 15 Apr 2008
This is a terrific book for people who need to be motivated to clear their clutter! Clutter removal is essential to rid your home or office of unwanted negative, stagnate energies. I'm a huge proponent of clearing clutter (and organizing the rest.)
Once your home or office is free from clutter, the next step--creating a sanctuary in your home and manifesting your desires--is easy.
So, if you overwhelmed with clutter, allow Karen to guide you!
Author of award winning book, Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify and Energize Your Life, Your Home and Your Planet Not much information, 02 Dec 2007
After the glowing reviews others have left, I thought this book would be worth it's weight in gold, but was disappointed.
The main ideas can be summarised as follows:
1) Clutter drains your energy-- so you'd feel more energised if you didn't have clutter.
2) Things that you don't like or are ambivalent about also drain energy, so you should get rid of them without feeling bad about it.
3) All things that you own have an energy relationship with you, so the more unwanted stuff you have, the less energised you'll feel.
4) Clutter in your home can influence different areas of your life (Feng Shui Bagua) so if your work is going badly you should look at how the corresponding area looks in your house.
The rest of the book is just filler, where the author gives plenty of examples of how people have been inspired and how it has helped them change their lives. We also hear about the author's life in Bali, her colonics (one should also clear one's body and mind of unnecessary clutter), and how her handbag was the neatest a kid had seen when he rummaged through it.
Seemed a bit holier-than-thou.
In short: the booked is high on filler material and very low in actual content. It doesn't give any proper plan or encouragement or even information. The book seemed more like an advertisement for her other work with workshops, then the actual end product.
And to not clutter up my house more, I will happily give this book to the local charity shop.
I'm sorry but it didn't inspire me, 04 Jul 2007
I bought this book following on from all the rave reviews it got. Granted it gives practical advice and reasons for clearing clutter, it is well written and a convenient size so worthy of 4 stars, however, unlike the other reviewers, it did not inspire me to start clearing clutter which was the main reason I had bought this book in the first place.
Months later it is on my bookshelf along with How Clean is Your House, Life Laundry etc. Like most people who live in clutter I want to change and in desperation I searched Amazon for something that would actually inspire me and came across 'Sink Reflections'. Whilst the writing (very American) and references to God breezes can be a bit syrupy, the content actually works. After reading the opening chapters I got up and started clearing clutter with amazing results. Whilst Clearing Clutter with Feng Shui no doubt works for the vast majority, I found the quirky Sink Reflections gave me better inspiration and dramatic results in a short space of time. 100% wisdom, 23 Jun 2006
I bought this book after reading other reviews. I also bought the book Conquering Chronic Disorganization by Judith Kolberg. Judith's book has some very practical tips for organizing things. But Karen Kingston's book actually GETS you to get up and start sorting out your life.
My room was cluttered with things. I didn't even realise the effect it was having on me. Neither could I make the distinction between 'clutter' and items which I thought made my space look 'homely'. Now I have the perfect balance. I actually felt lighter after cleaning out my space. It took more courage than I thought to get rid of things which were no longer useful - but that courage will hopefully translate into an ability to do that in my every day life. You realise that holiding onto the past is only hiding the emptiness you have in your life.
This is also a topic Karen addresses - as she talks about clearing emotional and physical clutter towards the end of the book. Getting rid of flaky friends. Taking care of your body.
It's a truly all-encompassing book, which was refreshingly insightful. I am hesitant to lend it to anyone since I have read it several times already! Should Be On Prescription, 04 Jan 2005
I have only had this book for a couple of days, but it's already made a big impact on my thinking. I am an habitual clutterer and my family and friends gave up hope years ago! People could tell me 'til they were blue in the face that I should be tidier, but, somehow, I just couldn't do anything about it; it was like the change had to come from within me somewhere. I bought this book after seeing Ann Maurice reccommend it to a fellow hoarder on 'House Doctor', and I'm so glad that I did. With each chapter I've read, my inspiration has grown, and I've learnt a lot about myself through facing the reasons why I create clutter. Yesturday, I went to a charity shop and got three bags to fill up with clothes, and I know that this is just the beginning of a long process for me that I hope will free me from the past and allow health and happiness back into my life. I am a changed woman, and if you're a chronic clutter who panics everytime they even think about having a clear-out, buy this book and realise that you owe it to yourself.

GREAT BOOK, 12 Jun 2007
Really enjoyed reading this. Made sense and added to my interest in design. Simon Brown brings another dimension to the home environment. Clearly written with lots of good imagery. Found the ideas easier to understand than I imagined and my home feels a lot better for the suble re-arrangement after my first reading.
Great book if you want to understand and use feng shui.
The best feng shui book yet, 04 Jun 2007
I have read many feng shui books and been on a few courses and this is the best yet. It focusses on the energy or chi of feng shui and keeps the emphasis on how the atmosphere of a room can change our lives. True the author has left out the superstitious stuff and some of the more negative ideas about houses but to me the book is better for it.
Otherwise it seems complete with a great quick reference astrology chart. I would recommend this book for anyone who is coming into feng shui from a healing, humanistic angle and wants the authentic feng shui explained clearly.
Great illustrations and nicely laid out.
a good book, but lacking in some information, 12 Apr 2007
This is a fairly good book, but it lacks information on certain areas of feng shui because of the way it is laid out. It is a good tomb to keep handy though, and the illustrations are very good.
Wonderful Resource of a Book, 21 Jul 2006
This book is a great find and man is it comprehensive.
I read the entire book front to back and was completly blown away with the simplicity and usefulness of Simon's set up.
After I took action on this information wonderful surprises began showing up in my life. I attracted a huge business deal.
This book helped me put myself over the top in my career and professional life. It helped me create my purpose and hone my craft.
If you want to cause big changes in your life, GET STARTED NOW.
I highly recommend it.

At last a real feng shui book, 16 Apr 2006
Feng Shui Bible breaks through all the superstition and explores the real feng shui of working with human emotional energy. Brown show you how to set up your home to feel better rather than mess around with Chinese toads etc.
The easy to use practical approach makes it easy to use. I turned my bed to face a new direction and found I slept better and noticed a lift in my mood and attitude in life.
I have have readnumerous feng shui books and been on courses, so far this is the best.

A good start to change your life, 21 Nov 2007
For some people, Feng Shui is sort of a superstition. Frankly speaking, I had been rather dubious whether Feng Shui can do any good for human beings. After reading this book, I feel that Feng Shui in itself is more like art than like a superstition. That all depends on the way how you apply it to our life. And indeed, some extremists apply Feng Shui to their life in an irrational way. That's why we might from time to time hold a negative image of Feng Shui.
Now, I am convinced that Feng Shui teaches you how to live a better life. You don't have to challenge why and how it works. But you may follow some of the tips that make sense to you and put into practice. For example, I have learned to always close the door of my toilet room after using it, which is a small step but a big positive change for my life. This book is really worth reading.
Simply the best, 30 Jun 2007
This book manages to simplify a very complex subject and offers simple practical tips on how to easily incorporate the principles into the home you live in. In the chapter on each room it briefly mentions the best areas for each room so useful to know if you are looking for a new place too. Also offers tips on which areas to work on to improve different aspects of life from finances to depression or even fertility! I've recommended this book to many people who have an interest in Feng Shui but were too confused to apply it or felt the changes they made didn't help them.... now they understand what they need to know and all of them thanked me for the tip and have noticed positive changes in the areas they concentrated on. Simply the best Feng Shui book for practical application I've read and I will go on recommending it. Thanks Paul!
Feng shui readily available to all!, 18 Jun 2007
This is truly a little masterpiece by Paul! I have many and varied books on feng shui in my collection but this one has got to be one of my favourites! It's just what you need to get to grips with feng shui in a very attractive and extremely portable little book so that you can take it anywhere to look at anytime you feel the need and believe me, you'll want to dip in time and time again!. It's just what it says it is, "an easy-to-follow handbook"! Well done Paul!
Excellent book, 01 Jun 2007
I have been interested in Feng Shui for many years and am finding this book to be a great tool. Paul deals with practical tips and a no nonsence approach rather than mumbo jumbo, this is a book you can use to change your life in practical ways - I love it!
I Love This Book! , 04 May 2007
It rquires skill to take the enormous subject of Feng Shui and distil it into into a concise practical book which is accessible to all. Yet Paul Darby has done just that with this book. The illustrations, layout and design of the book add to its readability and I just love dipping into it to glean yet another idea on how to better organise my home, nay my life! Congratulations Paul, any fool can write reams and reams on a subject, but it takes a master of a subject such as you to pull out what's truly important. Paul also goes on to suggest further reading in case you get hooked on the Feng Shui bug. Oh well, must dash, I'm off to get a few pebbles. Why? See page 084!

Thoroughly recommend, 09 Feb 2008
This is my favourite feng shui book because it's so accessible.
Gabrielle writes as though she is with you in the room and makes it all seem so easy, straightforward and most of all achievable.
I have been able to follow and implement so many of the suggestions in the book - I can't seem to put it down!!!
There is a website you can visit too and if you do have a query you can actually ask Gabrielle a question (which does not cost the earth - a pizza costs you more). I have done this in actual fact and was most pleased with the answer.
Super super book!!!!
This book is so the AUTHOR, 29 Nov 2006
We met Gabrielle a few years back when she was beginning to write her Feng Shui book. Heck at that time she did not even have a name for her book. But we both knew Gabrielle would publish her book because, as we learned very quickly, Gabrielle lives her Feng Shui to the fullest. She also is one of the most positive people we have met in our lifetimes. That is why this book will become the best Feng Shui book ever written.
The work that she did with us on our house and land was beyond amazing. Our tree's (all 350) and plants have grown to become very healthy and stong. We attribute this blessing to Gabrielle's ability to teach us to use Feng Shui as a positive tool for our environment.
It is a special treat to be able to read her book after spending time with her in a class and at our home. We enjoyed this book because Gabrielle's personality comes alive in it. We can remember Gabrielle saying one thing over and over again when she was starting to write this book, "I want to make sure this book will be simple enough for all to understand and have fun while reading it". Well, Gabrielle you have achieved that and much more.
We needed this time to talk about the author because this book would not be available for all of us to enjoy and learn without her, so now the reveiw about the book.
1. Easy to read and understand -Simple
2. Detailed steps to follow - Even people with left brains can understand
3. Full of knowledge, laughter & entertainment - Which Gabrielle is all
about
4. Very well-written and concise
5. All positive and encouraging words not a negative word or image in
this book
6. So detailed even down to the colors that were used for the cover of
this book. KUDO'S to Gabrielle, the colors are so right on
This would be a wonderful gift for anyone, and after you read it, you will agree. Just hang on to yours and don't loan it out, because it won't return. And that is a Feng Shui tip you can count on.

the only Freng Shui book you'll ever need, 21 Nov 2006
I bought "Feng Shui for the rest of us" because the title amused me, I am so glad I did. For many years I have been interested by Feng Shui , bought a few books and got discouraged trying to understand the bagua and all the things you have to do to improve your house.
I started to read Gabrielle Alizay book and it was like a revelation, I could "do" Feng Shui. I was so impressed by the book that I went to buy 3 more copies to give to friends.
Gabrielle Alizay writing style is easy to read and very entertaining. She walks you through all the different steps of improving your surroundings with ease and humor. She guides you through changing your home or office which will change your life for the best. The concept of intention that was new to me is fascinating and so powerful.
This is a book you will keep on your night table. Buy the book now and and you will be in for a wonderful treat that will transform you.
Finally, my search for the best Feng Shui book is over!, 17 Nov 2006
For the last two decades I bought many Feng Shui books in different sizes, shapes and colors. Although all these books were very colorful, had fancy pictures and designs, they all gave me the impression that my house is not Feng Shui friendly and that I am doomed to have bad luck. All the books led me to dream that I needed an architect to completely redesign my house and property and/or dream that my next house would be Feng Shui friendly. These books were less than helpful and ended up unused on my book case, addding to the clutter in my home.
I thank the Universe for leading me to Gabrielle Alizay's book "Feng Shui for the Rest of Us". Finally, my search for the best Feng Shui book is over. I can now relate to the expression "you've seen the rest, but this is the best".
Reading Gabrielle's book feels like she takes your hand and guides you to understand how Feng Shui changes one's Life Values. She is so down to earth, concise and detailed in her explanations and I enjoy her way of presenting the Feng Shui Basics using humor and lots of wisdom. I am amazed how easy and simple it is to follow the Feng Shui principles. I found Gabrielle's book very inspiring and effective. Her explanations all made sense and was so interesting I did not want to put the book down. In fact, this book travels with me constantly. I was so impressed that I immediately implemented many of the Feng Shui principles and cures within few days of reading a few chapters of the book. Gabrielle has cures for every imperfection in my house including my sloping backyard. Now I love my house and property - and even my clutter, which has been greatly reduced, does not bother me, as I have a Feng Shui cure for it.
I like the fact that Gabrielle continually reminds us of the importance of intentions for each Feng Shui principle or cure - training our subconscious to the Law of Attraction's thought patterns. My house and property feels purified and empowered, even my plants became very healthy, green and upright since I implemented the Feng Shui principles in the book. Feng Shui did not disappoint - it definitely changed my cosmos and perspective. My left brained husband is now reading this book as he felt a positive change in his cosmos too.
My thanks to Gabrielle to the new wealth of understanding and knowledge she has provided. I highly recemmend this book to all who wish to gain a greater understanding of what Feng Shui is and how it can be applied to provide positive enhancement in one's life.
PS - I also opted for a phone consultation with Gabrielle - who tied all the Feng Shui principles in her book together and to remind me to get in the habit of using Feng Shui principles daily to put my life into proactive status and to then expect more abundance, miracles and blessings!

Handy Guide for everyone, 21 Nov 2007
You cant help but be inspired to get tidy with this gem of a book. Some tips are satisfyingly easy to achieve, others take a bit more effort. What I like is that there is an encouragement for everyone in the household to take responsibility.
The missing dimension of Feng Shui, 14 Dec 2007
For me this book filled in many gaps in my knowledge of how best to make Feng Shui work. Karen's method of explanation and her anecdotes are brilliant. They are clear, understandable and you can relate to them. The art of placement can be utterly overwhelming but with the dimension of Space Clearing things become, well, clearer! There is a vision in this book that many people can benefit from. It's not just about how it affects the aesthetics of your home but how it makes you feel about your life on a daily basis. She has skill in relating the practical to the emotional. In such a hair-raising outdoor world, I want to make my home an oasis of calm and peace. Reading this book was the first step in my journey to make this happen.
The Art of Sacred Space, 10 Dec 2006
This is a really excellent book from a lady who is a great teacher and who is passionate about the work that she does. If you want to make changes in your life by enhancing your home this is a great place to start.

Seeing is believing, 23 Jun 2006
I bought this book after reading 'Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui' by the same author. Clear Your Clutter was a fantastic book, which I rated five stars. I rated it so highly because you do not have to be into Feng Shui at all to benefit hugely from all the wisdom in the book. It is as practical as it is psychological or spiritual, which is why it's so effective.
This book however, was less useful to me. The same pages on clearing clutter are reproduced in her second book, so there was nothing new on that topic here. I don't believe that there are energies floating around in the corners of my room or anything of the sort, so in the end I took much of what is in this book with a huge pinch of salt.
Ultimately, I have to believe that something is there in the first place for me to clear it. Unlike Karen, I don't even have an ability to sense those energies in the first place.
I'd recommend her other book much more highly, especially if you don't have a deep belief in the mysticism behind Feng Shui.
Creating space with Feung Shui by Karen Kingston, 25 May 2003
I have been studying and using Feung Shui for over 8 years and have found this book excellent. The book uses the balinese style of Feung Shui which does not use compases. (not at this level anyway?) The book is simple and practical in it's approach an excellent buy. Feung Shui has been around over 2000 years, it's real, strange, fascinating and it works!
Creating sacred space with Feung Shui. by Karen Kingston, 25 May 2003
I have now been studying and using Feung Shui for over 8 years and found this book to be excellent, it has helped me a great deal and still offers me inspiration. It uses a simple style of Feung Shui without the use of compases. This book is simple, practical and easy to get on with. Feung Shui has been around for over 2000 years, it's strange, it's facinating and it works. Peter
