Loved it!, 16 Nov 2008
I really loved this book as I do all of Jill Mansell's books. It was really funny and had be laughing lots throughout the book. Can't wait for the next one!
Amazing!, 04 Nov 2008
I really enjoy chic lit any way so I may be a little biased when saying this book is amazing but I've read a lot of chic lit and this comes virtually at the top of my list.
I recommend ths book to any one who enjoys reading about a good romance. If you like stories where boy meets girl, girl meets boy, their relationship grows; you'll love this book. The clever twist at the beginning makes the whole book exciting and it's really easy to relate to the main character as she is realistic and down to earth. It's the kind of story where you're willing the main characters to fall in love througout (though I won't spoil the ending!)
Any one wanting to read a romantic comedy novel need look no further. This book is 5/5 and I really recommend it!
brilliant!, 28 Oct 2008
I loved this book, and since reading it I have discovered how great an author Jill Mansell is and am now busy reading her back list!
This is a great book! Its realistic chick lit and written very well. Its not at the mills and boon end of romance but its definitely either a beach or stay in at home with a book read!
Not bad...but not fantastic, 21 Oct 2008
I read the back of the book and thought it sounded interesting, but lo and behold it wasn't. It is not bad, but personally, I found the main character (Lola) to be irritating and I could not sympathise or empathise with her, even from the very beginning.
Her love interest Dougie, came across as stand-offish and a bit stuck up, which isn't really a surprise. However this grated after a while as Lola fantasied about them getting back together and how fantastic he was.
There are too many storylines, and none of them really get enough said about them, just dipped in and out of. I personally would have liked to have known more about Lola's dad. And the storyline with the flatmates was tied up too neatly and tidily for my tastes. The idea that Lola judged people solely on appearances ws touched on very briefly but not really explored.
Despite what I have said it isn't bad to read, and once you have figured out what is going to happen you can sit back and find out if you are right.
Another good read, 22 Sep 2008
This is the second book of Jill mansell's that I have read. While I did find the main male character a little un-likeable due to his snobbishness and unforgiving nature, and the fact that they reunite on the last 3 pages was a little disappointing.
However, I found the book refreshing and witty and a nice change from the last 4 chick lit books I have read. (I can't believe they got published).
I am now going to search for another of Jill Mansell's books and hope it is just as much fun to read as this one was.

Not good, 03 May 2008
Not half as good as her other novels - i only read half. Gina is so dull and Izzy is not likeable. its very slow and just not involving. you just dont care about anyone in the story.
The queen of chick lit, 05 Apr 2008
Maybe she does not write literary masterpieces, but Jill Mansell is my number one writer when I am looking for relaxed unadulterated pleasure. Her characters, as usual, are full of life. Her stories are fun and I love knowing beforehand that everybody will live happily ever after. A great pick-me-up for any occasion.
Great read!, 11 Dec 2007
This is one of Jill Mansells great books.
It centres around Izzy and Gina after Gina knocks Izzy off her motorbike. There's lots of unexpected twists and turns in this romantic comedy. Mansell makes the characters real and you will end up caring for them and what happens to them. Izzy's teenage daughter seems a real sweetheart but she makes some unexpected mistakes. And its interesting to watch Izzy find out being famous isn't all she thought it would be...
For a good read, definately pick this one up!
Jill's most enjoyable book so far, 17 Mar 2002
An hilariously funny and touching tale of the ups and downs of the optimistic Izzy, her long suffering daughter Kat, their friends and their love lives. I found it hard to put down. The best Jill Mansell book I have read so far.
Another winner from Mansell, 22 Oct 2001
Izzy isn't the most loveable Mansell heroine, but she grows on you (as she does on the other characters in the book). In fact, this book is a collection of some real oddballs - Izzy (aspiring singer and full-time flake), Gina (if there was anyone less appropriately named in fiction - she's definitely not a "Gina"!), Vivienne (never-take-no-for-an-answer Ex of our hero, Sam), Marcy (who breaks up Gina's marriage with an untimely pregnancy), Tash (a classic jerk in sheep's clothing), Kat (who at 17 appears to be the mature one, but proves she's not quite that grown up after all), Andrew (Gina's husband, you almost come to feel sorry for him!), Simon (future hero in the making), and Sam - our perfect hero. You can see - another cast of thousands, a Mansell trademark. I have to admit - although I liked this book a lot (stayed up late last night to finish it), I don't love it the way I have loved previous Mansell novels. It's very good - but Good at Games, Head Over Heels, Millie's Fling, Sheer Mischief, Perfect Timing are all loads better. I've got Mixed Doubles to finish up, then it's a long dry spell until the next one hits the shelf! Keep turning them out Jill, we love them!

Product Description
With undertones of a Shakespearean love-romp, love's true course gets a distinctly bumpy ride in this, oddly named, fifth novel from Jill Mansell. While the action centres around the court (Bristol-based mansion) of ex-rock star and former alcoholic, Jaz Dreyfuss, his ex-wives, current bubble-head and a selection of their relatives and friends, the lead role and heroine of our tale is taken by feisty, wise-cracking, ex-wife number two, estate agent extraordinaire, Suzy. Suzy's mother, recently departed for designer-heaven (as in the sky, not Bond Street), has left Suzy and her siblings to discover a skeleton (with skin and blood still attached) leaping out of the family cupboard. While the summer bookshelves groan with an ever-growing mountain of books charting modern girl¹s search for "true lurrve", Good At Games is a well-executed example of its genre, with a bunch of characters you can actually care what happens to and a plot that, although you know exactly where it's going, makes you want to keep reading until the very last word. --Carey Green

Another Brilliant Book By My Favourite Chick-Lit Author, 26 Jun 2008
The title of this review says it all really. I loved this book. At first i wasnt sure about Suzy, i didnt think i would like her as i have other Mansell characters, but i quickly did grow to love her. And the things she got herself into, well you wouldnt believe! You will have to read for yourself to believe them, lol. I loved her friends and family too. The only characters i werent mad keen on were Celeste, Harry or Julia (although i found Julia quite funny)
Harry was a strange character for me because i wasnt sure whether he was supposed to be liked or not, but later in the book he was so childish and stupid i would of hit him. And of course my fave character was the devilish Leo! Harry's brother. I was in love with him much like i was with Ross from her book 'Solo' hehe.
Anyway, there's nothing much more i can say without giving anything away. Although i will say that unlike other reviewers, who say Jill's books are predictable, i didnt realise how this book was going to pan out till i was past half way. Maybe i was too naieve or something! But it doesnt matter if you do work things out in her books, they are still brilliant.
One of Mansells funny romcoms, 29 Dec 2007
Following Suzys mothers death, her and her siblings are left with a little suprise - a new sister they never knew about. does suzy meet her mr right in policeman Harry? or was Suzy best off with her alcoholic rock star ex-husband that lives next door? will Suzy ever get along with her ex's new girlfriend? and why does Harrys brother Leo not like her?
this is the story of quite a few characters all woven together beautifully, but who will end up with who and will it be happy endings for all?
not long enough!, 23 Oct 2005
despite being about 500 pages i read this in 2 evenings, about 300 pages in the second night, because i just couldn't put it down. i never normally get that caught up in a book! this book is hilariously funny, addictive and you just can't stop once you've started. i think it's my favourite romantic eomedy book of all time - the characters are great especially Suzy, the main character, and i guarantee you will love this.
Exellent - Ends just how you want it to., 23 Jan 2005
I thought this book was great. I love it when you read a book and it ends just how you want it to. A great romantic comedy. Go buy it.

Not one of her best, 15 Nov 2008
Not one of her best books - although parts of it were good I found some of the characters a little annoying. I've really enjoyed many of Jill Mansell's other books but just couldn't get into this one. It wasn't a bad read but I'm glad that I got this one from the library and didn't pay money for it.
Actually quite a good read, 05 Apr 2008
I picked this one up purely because i liked the look of the cover. Not the best reason to chose a book, i know, but this time i wasnt dissapointed. Although the plot was slightly formulaic, i dont think it detracted from the charm of the characters, and the honest, down to earth herione of the story captured your interest and heart straight away. Managed to read the whole thing practically in one sitting.
Great read.
Lovely, 06 Feb 2008
This book and I started off to a rocky start. I had just put down my twilight when I picked this up and I had extremely high expectations of the publication industry.
I was not dissapointed. This book was everything I wanted it to be (although it wasn't exactly a vampire love story) it was a funny, breezy chick lit with a twist here and there to keep me interested.
Groaned in frustration and some characters, laughed in hysterics at others.
Overall, I just thought iw as lovely. I got another Jill Mansell, Miranda's Big Mistake with this and I look forward to reading it!
Pleasant romp!, 28 Jan 2008
Another pleasant romp from Jill Mansell, who I think is one of the original and better modern day writers of `chick- lit'. I have been reading her novels since 1998 and she always writes in an amusing and up to date way. Hardly `brain fodder' but nonetheless a good choice for those times when you feel like reading something light and frothy.
The main character in this one is `empty nester' Ginny Holland trying to build a new life for herself now daughter Jem has gone off to university.
As always in her books there is a good mix of characters whose personalities emerge throughout the story with good development of the characters and their interesting relationships!
Brilliant read, 04 Jan 2008
This was the first Jill Mansell book Ihave read, bought as a Christmas present. Have not been able to put it down and have laughed and chuckled throughout. Really got into Ginny's character and thought it was very well written.

Go buy it.
good at games, 22 Sep 2004
I would actually give this book 10 stars. I have read every single book by jill mansell and loved everyone of them but this was by far the best in my eyes. I was actually screaming at the book hoping suzy didnt end up with policeman. Thankgod she ended up with this books mr darcy. Im in love. Still cant wait for the next book due out november, ive already put an order in. Jill mansell the author that makes a day worth living.

Guilty Pleasure, 26 Nov 2007
This is one of Jill Mansells best books, it is funny, full of well rounded characters that you can't help but love (or hate) I have just finished reading this book for the 5th time in 12 years - it is like a vintage Jilly Cooper, an old friend that you can read and know that you will enjoy it again and again.
A particularly good Mansell Read!, 03 Dec 2003
I've read loads of Jill Mansell's books, but this one stays in my mind especially...don't know why, but it does! The story is clever and witty with lots of interesting characters and the plot is believable. Also, it's not too much of a slushyily romantic read - Mansell has a wickedly ironic streak too! I'm looking forward to reading more but this one is especially recommended!
Fantastic, 24 Jun 2003
This is quite easily one of the best books I have read. This was one of the first books I read by Jill Mansell(I am now on the hunt for all of them!) and was thoroughly delighted with this book. It is funny, unreal buy yet at the same time you can identify with the charcters. Although I found the ending quite predictable there were many twists and turns along the way which is always a good thing in a book. Janey, Maxine and Guy are fantastic absolutly sheer delight to read about. I loved Guy's kids they were almost as good as Guy himself (who sounds wonderful in the book) and Bruno was a charcter on his own. Fantastic... I'm now on my second read through it and still laughing at the same parts even though I know what's going to happen!
Fantastic - I Loved this!, 11 Mar 2002
I have read quite a few of Jill Mansells novels but I have to say this is by far my favourite...Catchy, intriuging, funny...un-putdownable...Janey, Maxine & Guy are some of my favourite characters yet!
Thoroughly entertaining., 25 Jan 2002
Frothy and lighthearted, but unable to put it down. Another winner from Mansell.

Alright but instantly forgettable, 22 Jan 2008
I decided in the first chapter of this book that this was going to be rubbish and was cross with myself for picking it up (have to say that I was given it by a friend in a big pile of books).
It was OK - easily readable with lots of exaggerated unlikely events.
The book was mindless and unchallenging but vaguely entertaining if you have got nothing else around to read.
Open House, 06 Dec 2003
As with all her books, I really enjoyed this one, I kind of knew where the end was going with this book, but I was still quite gripped, a good read
Not my favourite, 29 Aug 2003
I was a bit disappointed with this, I've read all of Jill Mansells books (I think, there are quite a lot!) and this one didn't stand out. Hetty seemed very familiar as a similar character (plump and abandoned by her husband) has appeared in at least one of her other novels. There was also a rather convenient death of one of the characters (I won't say who!) There wasn't much of a spark between the 'hero' Marcus and the 'heroine' Nell either. As the book is about predictions, maybe the feeling that they were bound to end up together was intentional but it would have been nice to keep us guessing just a little! I do love this author, and I enjoyed this book, its just not my favourite (that would probably be Perfect Timing).
fantastic, 04 Jun 2003
This is the second Jill Mansell book i have read and i'm equally impressed with this then "staying at Daisy's". I read this within two days because it is so easy to read but very difficult to put down. The characters are amazingly real and you begin to feel you know them, and you sympathise with their situations. It's so real you begin to wonder what you would do in their situation. The story lines and twists are also really good and a couple were unexpected. Overall this is a fantastic book. Jill Mansell is great...i've already started another book of hers! Enjoy!

Go buy it.
good at games, 22 Sep 2004
I would actually give this book 10 stars. I have read every single book by jill mansell and loved everyone of them but this was by far the best in my eyes. I was actually screaming at the book hoping suzy didnt end up with policeman. Thankgod she ended up with this books mr darcy. Im in love. Still cant wait for the next book due out november, ive already put an order in. Jill mansell the author that makes a day worth living.

Enjoy!
open house, 03 Jun 2003
What a wonderfully written book, yet another example of Jill Mansell's excellent talent.I enjoyed every single page.
Couldn't put it down, 06 Aug 2008
This is the first Jill Mansell book I have read and I can say I love her style. I really enjoy a light-hearted, romantic story I can get lost in. The characters are fantastic and with her writing style, you feel like you are in the story sometimes. I simply couldn't put it down! Fantastic read and along with The Chocolate Lovers Club, my favourite book.
Another Jill Mansell Winner, 03 Feb 2008
I'm on a Jill Mansell mission! Over Christmas, thanks to my lovely sister, I came to own ALL of her books (apart from the very latest one which i'm waiting for in paperback). That's how much i love her writing. Anyway, about this book...
I loved it. It's the 5th one i've read. The only reason i'm not giving it 5 stars is that, to be honest the 'big mistake' didnt last long! i mean most of the book is about after the thing happens. Which isnt so bad really. Miranda was a really likeable character, infact most of them were. Apart from Greg and Daisy. Florence is a great character, and had me laughing many times. And i could totally imagine how Danny Delancey looked. Very handsome! he's one of my fave characters. and i thought the name Fenn Lomax was great for a celebrity hair dresser! Anyway i will leave it at that and please do not hesitate to buy this book or any Jill Mansell book. (despite my review for 'fast friends' but you might like it)!
lovely lovely romcom, 29 Dec 2007
This book follows Miranda and her up-and-down lovelife. just like buses, theres no men around then three come at once! watch Miranda find out her new love, Greg, pregnant wife is her new housemate. how will British racing champion, Miles Harper, fit into her life with his celebrity model/actress girlfriend? and what will Miranda do about Danny Delancy the tramp/journalist who likes to wind Miranda up?
funny funny funny, definately a book that will keep you turning the pages and loving the characters.
Not a Mistake to Read!!, 26 Nov 2007
I love this book, this one is really my favorite from Jill, it made me laugh, cry and left me feeling warm and fuzzy, not depressed. It is a warm well written enjoyable book, and I confess that I have read it quite a few times over the years. What are you waiting for, if you have not already bought, hurry up!
I've met the real Jill, 13 Nov 2007
Having met Jill recently I was naturally curious as to her work, although it had to be forced out of her as to what she did for a living!
All of the books I've read are so different, yet, as a true romantic, happily turn out right in the end, which is so heartwarming these days.
Miranda's is another classic!
You will NOT be dissappointed I assure you.

Product Description
When Millie saves bestselling novelist Orla Hart's life and loses her boyfriend in the process, one wonders if the rest of the book can be as entertaining and eventful as this dramatic opening but for Millie Brady the fun has only just begun Millie decides that a man-free summer is just what she needs but Orla, who wants Millie to be the heroine of her next novel, is determined to find her the man of her dreams. As far as Millie is concerned, the only man worth thinking about is Hugh Emerson but for Hugh, whose wife tragically died in a horse-riding accident, "dating is not on the agenda". Millie's determination not to fall in love with the young widower forms the centrepiece of the novel but Jill Mansell also delves into the shenanigans of Millie's best friend Hester and her eventful love life; Orla and her cheating husband; Millie's man-eating mother; and the leather-clad, sex-mad Lucas Kemp who runs a kiss-a-gram service. Set against the backdrop of the tranquil Cornish countryside, the story is void of coldly beautiful, career-obsessed women; gorgeous men with flash cars and flashier wallets. Instead, Mansell has created a believable and diverting cast of characters, and even dares to portray sex as something other than mind-blowing: Since carrying her into the bedroom, Lucas had stripped himself naked, launched himself at her, had sex and then rolled over with a groan of contentment. In one hundred and eighty seconds flat. Oh, and he had told her she was great. Unbelievable. This is an addictive, warm and funny read bursting with clever one-liners and sparkling dialogue. Mixed with a healthy dose of realism, the will-they-or-won't-they element will have you gripped until the end. Reading Mansell is never an idle fling; her ever-growing collection of bestsellers, including Kiss and Good at Games, demands a life-long love affair. --Amy Gallagher
