Love it!, 05 Jan 2008
I got this as a Christmas present. I'm a vet student, and have found the text easy to read and very informative, my Dad who is a beef farmer, also had a flick though - and I didn't get the book back until a week later!

I got this as a Christmas present. I'm a vet student, and have found the text easy to read and very informative, my Dad who is a beef farmer, also had a flick though - and I didn't get the book back until a week later! This book is essential reading for dairy cow nutrition, 05 Dec 2000
Feeding the Dairy Cow is a well written book covering the whole subject of dairy cow nutrition from what the requirements of a dairy cow are through to how to formulate a ration for different stages of the cows life-cycle using only a simple calculator and providing all the reference data needed in simple to use tables. The book is written in a simple form that appeals to anyone involved in dairy farming ranging from agricultural students to veterinary surgeons and feed advisers. In the space of 256 pages, someone with very little knowledge about cattle nutrition, anatomy, physiology or husbandry can be taught the basics and many of the more complex issues about cattle feeding without feeling the sense of bewilderment that is often found when opening a textbook on nutrition. To top it off there is also a section on how to assess what a cow has eaten by looking at its dung-pat. A well-written and informative book.
