The main 17th Edition book was out in Febuary.
if you are that worried, either bring it with you, or get the Amicus red book, it is more or less the on-site guide
Not yet been published, 13 Jun 2008
Been waiting since 6 april for mine to be sent ? 17 ed regs due to be complied with in july do not think its due to be published untill september 2008

You know you want it, 21 Jul 2008
I am about to order this. After reading the reviews I can't wait to get my hands on this and read it cover to cover to get all 17th,ed and ready for my next NICEIC inspection. It will be great, more regs, more questions, more trying to explain to customers. I may opt (have to) to go on a course aswell which is excellent as I was wondering where to go on holiday this year. Roll on the ammendments. There may even be a prequel and some retro bonding moments to come.
17th Edition, Great if you like poor workmanship and RCDs everywhere to cover poor workmanship!!, 12 Jul 2008
Well, after years of is the 16th overkill or under, we all had our issues with the 16th as practical installers. but my god the 17th. have done the guilds, the tutor hated it, every electrician I know and have met hate the book. New numbering to allign with the EU, wow great friggin idea that was. Oh by the way havn't the IET just issued an ammendment showing how stupid they were and highlighting how many mistakes are in this version. I would wait until they industry sees sense and makes the first published ammendemnt. £65 for a book with mistakes, bloody cheek!
beside this version is great if you a piss poor electrician and like using RCDs everywhere. what ever happend to correctly selecting, installing, inspecting and testing a circuit with good workmanship and materials so that persons, property and livestock etc are protected without the need for these 1666 ohms cheat devices which can and do seize up anyway if not maintained! (pushing the button after two years doesn't make a device relaibel, its under fault that counts!) Might as well use bloody nails. TWO WORDS COWBOYS CHARTER!!
Book for the boys, 15 May 2008
A book that is simply not written to be understood. A book that can only really be read if purchased with other guides. A book written by persons that have no idea about this industry. A black cable can now be live, existing blue cables now may be live but new blue ones will be neutrals. Persons will die because of these Regs. Written by so called experts that do not care how much it all costs. Let's put RCDs or RCBOs on everything. Why buy it, because you have to.

........What a guy! Try reading the description of the book before buying!
....My missus loves it now i'm "Mr Competant"!
Its just like the last edition, but red &......safety is beefed up.
It'd probably sell better as an audio C.D version, as a SLEEPING aid!
Maybe that'd get the price down to a reasonable cost.
Lets hope its a while before the next one, eh?
Whoa! Steady on Betty!, 03 Apr 2008
Shortly after I received my copy, my TROUSERS EXPLODED!
Its that good!

Serious value for money, 24 Jun 2008
As has been mentioned - all drivers should have a copy of this book as it lays out very simply exactly what you should and shouldn't do in most situations on the road.
So many of us drive, ride or use the roads and we need to understand the ground rules - for less than the price of a pint, you can use it to dazzle your team-mates in pub quizzes, or settle those perennial arguements (what is the speed limit for a van on a dual carraigeway anyway?).
It's an absolute bargain - so if you find yourself frustrated by modern road designs and signs, or get confused by how to deal with some of the strange new junctions - get a copy.
A must have for ALL DRIVERS!!!, 29 Oct 2007
It is evident that most drivers on the road either have lost the ability to read, or they're completely ignorant and simply cannot be bothered to be knowledgeable of the current rules and laws of the roads and road safety. Just for learners indeed! RUBBISH! If drivers simply took the time to have a look through this simple guide, people would be aware of the simple things such as when you can and cannot use a bus lane, and which lane you are supposed to be in when using a roundabout, and the list goes on.
I simply believe that ALL drivers should have a copy of The Highway Code and be up to date with road safety and the laws. Then some of these pretty pictures on grey poles on the sides of roads may actually make sense to the dim witted behind the wheel, and no longer wonder why they get nasty looks and unsociable hand signals from other drivers.
Essential for learners, 21 Oct 2007
One of the UK's top selling titles. If you are learning then this really is the only defnitive source of the current driving rules. The codes layout has improved over the years but it is still, inevitably, very dry and dull. The various interactive CDs may help you revise for your theory test but for revising on the train, in the library and elsewhere there is no substitute.

The only maths book you will ever need, 21 Feb 2008
I have been out of education for 10 years before I started my degree so I was very apprehensive about the maths. This book works wonders especially the DVD you get with it to help problem solve. This is such a well structured book with lots of worked examples.
A must have for Engineering students
Simply outstanding..., 30 Sep 2007
This book is superb. It's the best book on mathematics I own and I have quite a few. It's exceptional because it graduates gently from one topic to another and each topic is explained clearly from start to finish through easy to follow steps. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Unrivalled; clear, concise and well written., 10 Aug 2007
This book is superb, I can only fault its size but the depth of coverage warrants such mammoth dimensions. The material covered within is done so in a structured fashion, ensuring the reader can actually grasp the material as appose to just learning the methodology. I have not had to use this book as a standalone revision tool but in conjunction with my maths notes, it is unbeatable. The exercise problems can get a bit tedious and some of the leaps in difficulty are inexplicable but a little extra searching and practice will iron out any reservations. If you are studying any engineering degree I would seriously recommend splashing the cash, you may not use it extensively at first but having it as a resource has been invaluable for me.
Got lost!, 16 Jul 2007
This is undoubtedly a good book but it put me to sleep at times as I could not see how all these calculations would be useful to me when I graduated. I assumed an Engineering Math book would have examples from Engineering cases but they were few and far between. I did find some other books that did this in the library.
This is a good book for learning by heart how to do these things but I think I remember about 20% of it now that the exam is over! I wanted to understand it not learn it by heart. :(
Stroud is massive! It has practically an entire intro to math book at the start which at best is good for a glance because, as an Engineer, my Math is OK. It is a huge big clunking book which broke my back carrying it but was useful none the less.
Brilliant! It got me through BSc and is helping me remember it as well!, 14 May 2007
I first bought Ken Stroud's book back in 1987, and found it extremely useful to help me get through my BSc (Hons) degree in microelectronics and computing.
Now I have bought the 6th edition to help me revise my maths knowledge, and it is helping me already with some post-graduate study.
The programme method really helps in self-study.
The updating has helped keep it current, and it is very readable!!
For undergraduate engineering maths study, this is the book that is a must have!

Excellent book for level 2 both 6129 and 6089, 05 Sep 2008
Here at PPL Training in York we used to use the old JTL Level 2 plumbing book for our City & Guilds NVQ level 2 courses. This lastest book combines both the NVQ side and the tech cert (6129) side, which is a good step forward as BOTH qualifications must be taken to gain a NVQ 2 in Plumbing.
The book is clearly laid out with individual chapters on the course structure. Errors from the previous versions have been corrected and along with clear colour diagrams makes this book suitable for both young and old alike. We at PPL train a mixture of age groups and find this book a very valuable reference and learning resource.
IF you are training to be a plumber either at a private college like PPL or a local FE college this is one of the books you MUST buy - excellent.

17th edition without the headache, 18 Aug 2008
This book will prove invaluable to novice and experienced electricians. It is very well set out and easy to read.

It'd probably sell better as an audio C.D version, as a SLEEPING aid!
Maybe that'd get the price down to a reasonable cost.

This is such a GOOD read! I completely understand everything about signs now! It makes it so simple and easy to understand! I truly recommend this to anyone who has a passion for road signs! I almost had a tear in my eye at the end as I finally passed my driving test after 8 fails! Great for bedtime reading and the best book you'll find in years! Thank you!
could do better, 04 Jul 2007
Surely with the resources available to the Ministry of Transport they could have produced a better planned book - I know it is only a few pounds but I wish it could have been presented in a more interesting way. Surely traffic signs are not that dull.
The best!, 03 Jun 2006
As a learning driver I have found this book full of information, lots of illustrations and simple explanations all at the price of £3. Not only it is the best for learners but also for those who have been driving for years!
Does What It Says and Value for Money, 24 Aug 2005
This book is clear, easy to understand, free of jargon and a good price. Unlike many recent DSA publications I've seen this book sticks to delivering solid, practical information and is free of blatant advertising for their other products. Plus at £3 (for a nicely bound, full colour, book) they're virtually giving it away. I'm an experienced driver (10+ years) and bought this to swot up before helping my wife to learn. The fact that it's updated from the version I had when I was learning meant I've learned quite a lot of new stuff too. So perhaps it's a good idea for ALL drivers (whether they've been doing it for a while or not) to have this book in their collection.
Good, 16 Feb 2004
Very clear signs, excellent for teaching purposes. May not be required if you have the highway code but is superbly clear as opposed to the highway code. Also good for ADIs

A definite recommend, 14 Nov 2003
This is our course text book for the Environmental Science module of my degree in Building Surveying, if you are interested in buidings (bearing in mind it is a text book) - it is still a pretty good read. For the course I'm studying it is first rate, very concise and clear, the sections we've used most are on the principles of heat, thermal insulation in buildings (U-values etc) and energy use in buildings (thermal comfort etc) it also covers acoustics, light, and water in equal depth. First rate, a definite recommend.

17th edition without the headache, 18 Aug 2008
This book will prove invaluable to novice and experienced electricians. It is very well set out and easy to read.
Suitable for a Nobel Prize!, 04 Jul 2007
Very helpful, 02 Sep 2005
This book was very helpful in the coruse im doing it covered the whole of the first year, hopefully s | | |
