Disappointing lack of information, 24 Oct 2007
Maybe because I had picked up a fair bit of info from free articles on the net, but I was expecting a lot more info from this book. General theme seems to be a lack of direction, qualified by statements to the effect of "check manufacturer's advice for specific guidance". My advice, unfortunately would be to do just that, as plenty of info can be gleaned from stockists and manufacturers for free. In it's defence the book goes into more high-tech preceedures such as resin transfer moulding, but these may be of little or no use if you are looking to go low-tech in your garage! In summary, for the average guy starting from no knowledge, but wishing to do a good low-tech hands on job- pick up the fre info and put down this book
Very interesting, 04 Mar 2007
A fascinating read, covered absolutely everything I needed to know about use of reinforced plastics. Would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone in the fibreglass industry.

Great book, 10 Sep 2007
This is exactly what I needed for for my class of students.
Amazon has listed this book as a hard cover by mistake. It is the paperback, which is better anyway!
Thank you

Technology for the crafty type, 23 Sep 2008
Fashioning Technology is a manual to combing technology and practical arts to create funky and interactive pieces of wearable or crafty geek chic. The book itself splits neatly into two sections so I will deal with it in that way.
The first section (chapters one and two) are the real gem of the book. The first chapter covers the materials, electronic components and tools that you may come across. The materials section covers a range of smart and conductive materials, some of which will be fairly familiar to most DIY-ers and crafters but some will be distinctly new - up until reading this book I didn't know you could get conductive Velcro! Each material has a brief overview outlining its composition, function and potential uses. Following the materials section is an introduction to various electronic components, switches and sensors. Each component has a physical description, an overview of the component's function and operating parameters. Each overview is concise but very informative and should give the reader a reasonable understanding of where they would be used and why. The final part of this introduction to materials is a brief overview of the tools you may need to work with electronics and smart materials. The second chapter comprises a number of technical tutorials covering a wide range of topics. These cover two broad areas, basic electronics and craft techniques. The electronics tutorials cover such topics as working with L.E.D.s, prototyping circuits and soldering. The craft techniques tutorials are rather more varied covering topics as diverse as the basics of screen printing and producing soft circuits.
The remainder of the book is given over to examples of crafted technology with chapters on wearables, homewares and interactive toys. Each chapter has a number of worked examples. I'm not entirely convinced that anyone will be buying the book to make any of these items but each one does cover the problems likely to be faces with a specific project.
All in all, although it's value as a set of "to do" projects is rather limited I would highly recommend Fashioning Technology for anyone who wants to integrate technology with their craftwork and doesn't mind doing a bit of work of their own to build on the information in the book.

Possible mistake?, 02 Jan 2009
This book has a good selection of different pattern blocks to use for your own designs, with tips on how to adapt them. However, i have been using the instructions to draft a bodice block to adapt into a pattern for a bra and there seems to be an error when drafting according to size 8 measurements- either there is a typo in the drafting instructions, a mistake in the measurement tables or size 8s are just resigned to a very strangely shaped bodice block! I have double and tripled checked my steps, calculations and measurements and can't seem to resolve the problem so i can only deduce that the problem must lie with the publication. Has anyone else had this problem?
Some more clear indication of seam allowances (which aren't included) and finishings such as bindings, ties etc. would have been a great help. It is a good reference book for the advanced user.
A great book, 22 Oct 2008
A great book with all the basic blocks and shapes you will need for lingerie pattern cutting an additional book for inspiration is recommended!
Good book, 27 Jun 2008
This book is for the person that really knows their stuff. It is informative but not for the beginner. Also some of the styles of the garments are a bit old fashioned and not something that I would make. Would be quite a good book to get some basic tips from if you could expand and add your own designs in.
