A very useful book to think about management, 23 Oct 2000
This book, refers to previous Deming's book "Out of the Crisis". In it, the author explains his theory of management. In it, there are basic concepts about management: The System, the System of Profound Knowledge, Leadership, and other topics about management. This was the last book written by Deming, his spiritual testament.

ISO 9001:2000 Audit Procedures So - they've told you that you're the internal auditor for ISO 9001:2000. Don't panic, buy this book. It sets out the background to ISO 9001:2000 and to quality audits and then goes on to tell you everything you - and your colleagues - need to know and do to carry out management reviews and quality audits. There are some excellent checklists and forms which you can use or adapt for your own organisation. These are also available on a CD which, like the book, you will find is worth its weight in gold.
ISO9001:2000 Audit Procedures, 07 Aug 2002
I have found this book to be an excellent resource when helping clients structure, plan and compile audits. In my experience I have found the book to be particularly useful where an organisation is undergoing transition from ISO 9001:1994 to ISO9001:2000; specifically the checklists in the book which show comparisons between the two standards including explanations and likely sources of documentation. The checklists are available separately at a small cost on a CD rom. These will you save you hours of time !
ISO 9001:2000 AUDIT PROCEDURES AUTHOR: RAY TRICKER, 30 Jan 2002
This book must be the bargain of the year for any small business to use as a template for succesful auditing to the international standard. In addition the sample documents are meticulously presented and are easy to follow. Consequently it enables both the layman and the experet to develop a comprehensive audit plan, checklists and audit reports. The contents enable current ISO 9001:1994 sytem users to easily transfer to the new standard. As a professional trainer I have fould the book to be an invaluable aid to support training programmes. Any company purchasing the book will save thousands in consultancy fees...

Attending Sheffield Hallam University where K.Dutton and B.Barraclough teach I must say that the book is very well structured. Having been taught by the two gentlemen I can say that the book is a very much needed part of there course's. But it is a good tool for exam revision and indeed a good teaching tool.

A must read for new and experienced auditors, 30 Dec 2008
This is a great read. Complete with "top tips" all auditors - new and experienced - will benefit from the valuable guidance and expert tuition in this book.
As an experienced auditor reading the book I found myself identifying areas of my work that could do with a refresher - and as such believe my auditing has now improved.
Highly recommended.
A great read for current and prospective HSEQ auditors, 18 Jan 2008
Some years ago, I met Steve Asbury at a seminar where he was a guest speaker. I liked him from when I first talked with him after his session, and his passion for protecting people in workplaces astonished me. He told me he was writing a book about compelling continuous improvement in health, safety and environmental performance. I have been waiting to read it....
I bought this book recently, and it has done nothing to dint my impressions of the man. The book is beautifully written and illustrated -clear from cover to cover. If reading a full book is too much for you, the appendix at the back which summarises the 70 main points (Asbury Factors) made in the test is worth twice the cover price alone - compelling reading indeed.
When I did my HSE degree, this book would have helped a lot. I spent much time reading around, and here you have a source which "covers it all". I do recommend this title to you - indeed it sits as one of my all-time top 10 books on health and safety (etc) - look at my "Listmania" list for the balance.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
what a great book, 30 Nov 2007
OK, a book on Auditing isn't going to slip into your shopping trolley for bedtime reading. The authors know who their target market is and have produced a book to meet the exacting requirements of those involved in HSEQ auditing, or those who need to get up to speed pdq
This book is very well reasearched and put together. It has a logical flow that makes it easy to follow. It starts with a compelling case for the rise and rise of auditing in the modern world. Public and private sectors must find ways of proving they are working towards excellence. The profile of HSQE auditing has never been higher
After an interetsing section on economics (which is, incidentally, explained much more clearly than in the textbooks that accompanied my degree in Economics...I wish I had this book back then!), the authors move on to the 'how to' section. The real value of this book lies in its simplicity. It has managed to grapple with an inherently complex topic and portray the key principles in an accessible way. This is quite a feat, as most technical books manage to tangle me in big words. There's even a place for humour, so, come on, anyone who can bring a smile or two to the world of H&S deserves top marks.
The book finishes nicely with some of the people and team aspects of auditing. The process is quite technical, but it's important that auditors have the right set of people skills to influence and gain rapport.
All in all, a very satisfactory book. I feel as though I've learned a great deal. It might not be a bedtime read, but it's a very informative one. Wholeheartedly recommended

UK brand analysis , 30 Aug 2006
Leslie de Chernatony is probably the leading guru on Brands, writing in the UK. Creating Strong Brands, alongside his other texts, contains extensive practical examples. Along with David Aaker, the leading guru from the USA, Leslie is essential reading.
Dr Alec Kellaway
A Great Toolkit for those interested in Brands, 20 Dec 2003
This update on the Professor's previous guide to understanding brand management is an excellent read. In my view, there is no better and easier to understand explanation of the difference between a product and a brand than the "product surround", which is set out in the introduction chapter. The remainder of the book is just as clear and succinct and it's packed full of useful hints and tips. Being able to simplify potentially complex concepts is a wonderful talent and on the topic of brands, no-one does it better than Lesley De Chernatonay.
Original & a refreshing read surpassing Aaker, 21 Sep 2000
This book has proved to be one of the most fulfilling theoretical reads regarding brands. de Chernatony & McDonald have manged to sum the industrial & social perspective of brands in 421 pages, ommitting nothing. It provides the reader with an intellectual & practical insight into the previously scantily covered consumer psychological needs area, as well as a comprehensive examination of the way that value added brands are fast becoming the necessity for branding managers worldwide, not of course forgetting the use of the 'Marketing checklist' summarising each chapter, reinforcing it's practicality. The authors have compiled several thought provoking, clear, yet deeply anaytical models that are constructed to ensure the reader, whether academic or practicing will get the utmost benefit from the content. Well done the authors, this truely is a dynamic publication, I'm awaiting the second!

Making the business proposition, 07 Apr 2008
As a Project Manager how many times have you delivered the 'perfect project' only to discover that the business wanted something else? All Project Managers claim to be supreme communicators but this book illustrates we have long way to go sometimes. If you are struggling to make your business case read this book and try again.
View from an Author, 28 Mar 2008
As one of the authors, I want to share comments from colleagues in industry.
Delivering technology is increasingly about delivering benefit to the business. This book provides a useful frame of reference to make you think about the benefits piece and specifically how you can establish, link and track those benefits
Client review submitted to author (client employed a team of high level career PMs who have an in-house PM Standard available), 26 Mar 2008
The following review is from a confidential client who assessed the usefulness of each of the books in the series for their team of experienced PMs (this client employed a team of high level career PMs who have an in-house PM Standard available):
This is a more in-depth view of the first and last lifecycle stages & to my mind (for our needs) is the best book of the three reviewed (the other two being Project Management Toolkit & Real Project Planning). It builds on chapters 3-6 of the Project Management Toolkit. There are a number of Handy Hints at the end of each chapter.
Chapter 1 is a general introduction taking the reader from benefits definitions, through specification & onto realisation. Chapter 2 covers organisational issues (and) a useful checklist to identify changes in the business landscape.
Chapter 3 on the benefits concept uses Fishbone & Pareto. It has a good mapping tool & stakeholder matrix. Chapter 4 on benefits specification links scope to benefits. Chapter 5 talks about hard and soft benefits & how to write a business case. Chapter 6 is on benefits realisation. There is a useful benefits tracking tool that I will try to use & a "Kano" Customer Satisfaction Analysis Tool.
Chapters 7 to 11 have a number of useful case studies.
I think this is a book that could be usefully read by all (our) PMs especially to develop their business as opposed to PM skills.
Feedback to Author, 14 Feb 2008
As one of the authors of this book I wanted to share a piece of feedback:
Bill Wilson (Programme Manager, Projects Group, Astrazeneca)

THE quality management book from the man who started it all!, 07 May 2000
Juran's Quality Handbook is THE classic text on quality management. The book has constantly been updated over the years and this latest edition covers all the latest trends in the world of quality and general management. This text is the only book any manager or quality practitioner will ever need. It covers general management issues as well as its main thrust of quality improvement based around Juran's quality trilogy model. Where many management books leave the reader dangling by giving plenty of theoretical advice without any tools to go and use, Juran's book takes you the full journey covering all the tools you could ever need to analyse problems and most importantly develop solutions. Much of Juran's advice has remained the same since the 1950's when the Japanese so successfully took his teaching to heart and whilst many companies would do well to follow this 50 year old advice, Juran also covers such new and exciting subjects as 6 sigma which Jack Welch claims has transformed GE and saved them huge sums of money. This book is massive, covers every aspect of quality engineering and management and is highly recommended. A classic in the true sense of the word, this book and its author changed the world and it appears he isn't finished yet!

Help is at hand!, 13 Nov 2002
Pure excellence, 18 Oct 1998
