Absolutely brilliant!, 05 Dec 2008
I was a squash beginner looking for improving my game without paying for expensive lessons. This book is just what I wanted. It is beautifully written, well illustrated and very smartly points out common errors providing their rectification tips. I would recommend going through the book with patience and practice all the drills given at the end of each chapter. Your game will DEFINITELY IMPROVE!!! A detailed guideline for beginners, 29 Nov 2000
The very precise and detailed descriptions of various shots and movements on the court helped me to improve my game dramatically. However, reading once is not enough. At the beginning, you have to concentrate on each and every single details. If you take the book advices and you are not impatient the book guides you thematically to a definetly other level of squash. If you do not recognize your improvement you can find advices for all typical misstakes. You can also find the most usefull drills in the book. Now, I am coaching my partners. And it was just because of this book! Only one advice: Do not be impatient and read certain chapters several times if you do not feel really comfortable in a particular shot or game situation. Although I have read the book many times I still find new things in it! Great Read, Well Structured, Worth Every Penny !!, 10 Jun 1999
Within 30 pages, this book had made me aware of 2/3 basic problems with my game and given me an insight into how to solve them as well. Each chapter becomes a building block for successive chapters, allowing you to correct basic faults before trying any advanced techniques. At the end of every (all that I've read) chapter there is a table that lists Common errors found within the area being improved and methods to correct them - I FOUND THIS INVALUABLE! If I had to find fault, then I wish there were more pictures/drawings to explain the techniques and drills covered. However this won't detract much from my enjoyment of the book! If you play squash for fun or are a little more serious, this book will have something to help you improve. I only hope the practice goes as well as the theory!!

Learn squash from a slim version of Ron Jeremy, 07 Aug 2004
This fine book takes you from beginner level to advanced tactical play for the bargain price of ten pounds. Squash is a great way of becoming fit quickly and a great stress reliever that doesn't have to depend on fickle British weather. Your guide through photographs and text is a serious looking New Zealander with a moustache, who looks like a slimmed down version of Ron Jeremy, the notorious porn star. I love this book but don't expect to learn how to play this game properly without also receiving some coaching.

Do not buy this book, 13 Dec 2007
Very disappointing buy. The book is outdated in its references to players photos and layout. Illustrations are poor and lack clarity. For basic skills and understanding the game this book will not help you.
A must buy book, 11 May 2002
Excellent book. Just what i needed to learn more about squash. It already make me change some misconseptions about the game technique that i had. It's really a very compreensive book, with focus on every aspects of the game. The technical issues are very well explained, and easy to follow and understand, even from someone whos first language is not english (wich is my case). It has lot's of explanatory images and schemes about the matters explained, and very useful comment's about their real squash experience by famous player's like Jansher Khan and Ross Norman. All in all, a must buy book.

Pearson's retro rocket hits the target., 08 May 2005
When I picked up this book it took me straight back to the 80s - unstructured pages of text and poorly-framed black and white photos of players with knobbly knees. But then I realized that the technique in it is bang up-to-date - in fact this is the _only_ book I have found which has the exact racket grip and strokes as taught in the current English squash coaching syllabus. No surprise there - since Pearson is the head honcho in English squash coaching. But those retro photos turned out to be exactly what I needed to know so as to coach people to that standard. Maybe it is annoying that it constantly repeats 'see notes for the forehand drive' but I think that can be useful to get a consistency of preparation and stroke delivery for all the shots. So, although this may not stand out as a book for the beginner or club player, it certainly deserves space in every coach's squash bag. Like I say, the style does have a certain retro appeal for those of my generation now taking up coaching. And better getting modern technique in black-and-white than antique swings and advice tarted up with colour computer graphics.
very good book, but could have been better, 18 Apr 2004
liked the book. has sections of stroke technique, fitness, mental prep, etc. what i didn't like was the lack of detailed step-by-step diagrams or pictures explaining the verbage. photographs are quite poor and there are very few of them. same for diagrams. also, explanations are not very detailed. for example, after they explain the forehand stroke and move on to backhand stroke, the explanation goes like this: 'for the rest of the move, see forehand stroke above'. anyway, good try, but could have been better.

The best squash book ever written., 13 Mar 2000
This simply is my opinion the best squash book ever written. Hashim Khan was one of the best players the World has ever seen and his views and advice are put over in a way that is both friendly and clear to understand. If you wish improve your game at whatever standard you are this is the book for you
