useful addition to Pilates books with very clear photographs, 08 Jan 2001
Many of us know the difficulties of trying to learn Pilates exercises from books, but this one has very clear photographs, and useful boxes of information to back up the general directions. It is good to feel this comes direct from Alan Herdman who has taught so many Pilates teachers. I found the self-assessment section useful, and the pictures of studio equipment slightly scary, but no doubt very useful if I ever manage to get to a proper Pilates studio. Interesting, effective and well worth reading., 11 Sep 2000
As an aerobics instructor I have looked at many new forms of exercise to renew my interest in sculpting my body. Having read this book and taken the time to perfect the technique I can truely say that this publication will become your bible to transforming your body and your perception of your physicaly self. Well written with excellent step by step pictures to ensure correct form for maximum effect. Can't say enough about this technique and the introduction this publication provides.
Great companion to a pilates class, 03 Jul 2000
I found the book well written and easy to understand. The demonstrations remind you what you were learning in the class room and so the book is a great companion when doing your homework!
Works wonders, 15 Mar 2000
Not only do Anna Selby and Alan Herdman know what their talking about but their models demonstate the exact movementnts that are needed for each excercise.

short reveiw of 'shinto-simple guide', 11 Mar 2008
This is a simple and easy to read introduction to Shinto. I found it to be very useful in my research on the subject. Although it's a 'simple' introductory guide, it packs in a lot of information on the subject in a small space. The book gives an historical basis, covers the meaning of the word 'shin-to', deities, paraphernalia, customs of Shinto and so on. I think its a brilliant little book and was far more useful than some other weighter tomes that I read. Straight forward, easy to read and very informative, if you've little or no knowledge of Shinto its a great place to begin learning! Very informative!
