I run a pre school for 3 & 4 year old children and was looking for a nativity play. This book was fabulous. All of the song tunes are nursery rhymes so the children are familiar with them already and they learn't them very quicly. It was really easy to follow, had photocopiable pages for you to send home for the kids and music for my piano player! The children really enjoyed doing it and the parents were amazed. A great buy I would thoroughly recommend.

We first heard about this book when we heard a story from it read aloud in an all-age worship service. Our four year old suddenly stopped wriggling and sat up and listened intently to the whole reading. We looked at each other and mouthed 'buy it'! Although it has a colour picture to go with each Bible story, it is really for kids who can listen to a story being read aloud. The stories are beautifully re-written, often letting me hear them in a new way, and the language accessible for kids. The day after we bought it, our four year old invited our neighbours' kids in to read it to him! We really like this book. And one story is never enough...

As a nursery supervisor I have viewed many books, all of which relate to similar story lines. However, I have found this book to be extremely useful as it is user friendly due to the fact that, the main introduction explains how to use the book clearly.
This book also offers step-by-step instructions of how to organise the formation of the play on a week-by-week basis. I believe the book is realistic due to time constraints of organising the play around everyday activities that take place within nursery hours. In addition to these factors the book also offers three individual plays, which relate to varying ages of children.
Some major benefits in this book is that a background story is provided which is useful in a way that the children can relate to and learn in meaningful concepts. An exact script is also provided which is appropriate for the age ranges shown.
Other beneficial factors include; photocopiable sheets that are provided which aids the build up to the actual play and the fact that an actual stage plan is shown which is useful for first time organisers. Having had children perform this at school, I can vouch for it containing some of the best songs you'll have heard in a school musical. The strong lyrics, humour and thoughtful plot make it suitable for junior school or older. Young Mary has potential single-parent status, smug angels are shocked at the thought of a low-born child about to be important in heaven and Joseph is wondering how to cope with life not being as straightforward as he hoped. An advantage of such strong music and rhythms is that whilst it works on a small scale, it can work equally well when large numbers of children are involved. The children will be singing the tunes ages after Christmas is over..........

I read this book a few years ago and I thought that it was really good. It has a short biography on quite a few female missionaries. It was v. good and v. inspiring.

Ten lives to spark a young girls interest in how some have changed what 'might have been' for many, all over the world (China, Britain, India, Africa, Hong Kong, USA + worldwide).
This book tells of Isobel Kuhn, Elizabeth Fry, Amy Carmichael, Gladys Aylward, Mary Slessor, Catherine Booth, Jackie Pullinger,
Evelyn Brand, Joni Eareckson Tada, and Corrie Ten Boom by starting with each as a child and telling briefly the stories of their lives. The parts majored on are not necessarily what an adult would be most interested in - I think the author does a fairly good job of seeing what would be of interest in a child's eyes. I wish though that the author had included the part Joni Eareckson Tada has played in the world of the disabled instead of just her writing, painting and suviving without bitterness! A good feature is the succinct double page at the end of each chapter that gives facts about the time in which the girl lived in such a way as to help the child relate to their world and have a little food for thought. However, I'm not sure that the way the largeness of the world in the 19th and early 20th century made separation between parents and children in some parts of the world necessary, if they were to have an education, is handled sensitively enough. Only 2 of the 10 are contemporary, but then the point of the book is to appreciate those who have gone before us. There is a sequel I haven't seen 'Ten girls who made a difference' - it would be good if that one followed up with some more contemporary lives. Altogether this is an enjoyable book that I think my 9 year old niece will like and follow up with questions about our own lifestyle.
