Brilliant!, 28 Nov 2008
When I went through the book I could remember the movie played with Renee...Miss Potter. How magicals are drawings and how creative is the story, so easy to get into it! I really recommend this book for kids but also grown-ups. Nice present for Christmas eve I guess.
Regarding the way how tales are presented, this is quite genius as well as everything is merged into just only one book, a good quality about the cover. Nice choice.
Beautiful, 12 Oct 2008
Absolutely beautiful! A gorgeous hardbacked book with box. All the illustrations are exactly how you would remember them. Stories are perfectly laid out. There are even a few extras.
Truely wonderful, I will be buying more for friends children in the very near future
Beatrix Potter - the Complete Tales: The 23 Original Tales, 08 Aug 2008
This is a single boxed book which is truly beautifully presented. The original pictures and stories in all their splendour are laid out with loving care. If like me, you do not have room for the 23 little books in a boxed set, this is simply a wonderful alternative. It would be a fantastic present or a perfect book that will make a great impact on your bookshelves. I maybe 50 and have never read a Beatrix Potter story before, but this has certainly caught my attention and made my day!

Product Description
Winnie the Pooh: The Complete Collection of Stories and Poems was originally published in 1994, but this beautifully produced slip-cased edition has been specially created to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the publication of the very first stories about Winnie the Pooh. It consists of the classic, well-loved, tried-and-tested stories by AA Milne, from "Winnie the Pooh" (1926), "The House at Pooh Corner" (1928) and the poetry from "When We Were Very Young" (1924) and "Now We Are Six" (1927). Here is Edward Bear coming downstairs now, bump, bump, bump, on the back of his head, behind Christopher Robin. It is, as far as he knows, the only way of coming downstairs, but sometimes he feels that there really is another way, if only he could stop bumping for a moment and think of it. And then he feels that perhaps there isn't. Anyhow, here he is at the bottom, and ready to be introduced to you. Winnie-the-Pooh. So begins the opening sentences of chapter one of this wonderful book "in which we are introduced to Winnie-the-Pooh... and the stories begin". Although the stories are aimed at young children, older children (i.e.,adults!) of all ages will be able to recapture the wonderful Pooh stories of their childhood, remembering once again playing at Pooh sticks, reading about Hundred Acre Wood and finding out why Edward Bear is called Winnie-the-Pooh. Was he really named after a swan? The poems are not as well-known as the Pooh stories, but nevertheless some of them are ones to which children can still relate today, even though they were written 75 years ago when, in some circles, nannies and nurseries were commonplace. Half Way Down Half way down the stairs Is a stair Where I sit There isn't any Other stair Quite Like It I'm not at the bottom I'm not at the top So this is the stair Where I always Stop This exquisite book will make an excellent gift for young and old alike. -- Susan Naylor

A Classic that every home should have..., 23 Feb 2008
Ahhh Winnie the Pooh! One of the GREATEST classics of our time. When i was young, my mum gave me her old collection of Winnie The Pooh stories. I never put it down. Until the age of 17 I continued to read the same book. Now at 18, when i saw that they had released this...i was over the moon. I still read it whenever i can and never get bored of it. This is defiantly a classic that every house should have a copy of...my copy will be handed down to my kids/neices and nephews. :)
Wonderful book, 26 Nov 2007
My daughter is 2 and I will not allow her to have any of the Disney Winnie the Pooh books, toys etc, so I was delighted when she was given this book for her birthday yesterday. We sat down last night after her bath and read the first few pages - it brought back wonderful memories of my own childhood.
The colour pictures bring the stories very much to life, although I agree with a previous reviewer that the book is a bit heavy for a younger child to read on their own, but that will only encourage me to read this with my daughter which can only be a good thing!
Beautifully presented in the sleeve. A truly thoughtful present. Thanks Grandad!
Very nice book to own, 10 Jan 2005
Whether you have been brought up on Pooh or not it's good to have all the stories you knew, and even some you didn't, in one book. Nice and big and good bedtime reading, maybe a bit heavy for kids to take to bed, but I'd say if you wanted to get Mum or Dad a present for having read them to you a few years ago, this nicely presented book with it's solid slide-in box cover would be perfect!

Brilliant Book for Babies and Young Children, 04 Jul 2008
I bought this book for my twin grand daughters when they were four months old. They loved the pictures and quickly picked up the repetition and loved hearing all the animal noises. By six months of age, they wiggled with delight every time they saw me pick up the book. They now try to push the sound buttons for themselves and never tire of having it read to them. Definitely the best book so far that I have bought for them.

My little girl adores this book. She loves to press the buttons and especially the 'cow' one! Thoroughly recommend.

If you don't know this story, it's about a couple of skeletons and a dog skeleton that live in a dark, dark cellar and venture out to scare people during the dead of night.
Not a very good story for a bedtime reader you might think!
In fact, the story is very funny and not at all scary and so makes an excellent bedtime reader. It also makes an excellent early reader, because as well as the story narrative, the skeletons engage in some very funny dialogue and jokes in the pictures. These can only be appreciated by older readers.
A brilliant book. Very highly recommended Sun Class, 04 Mar 2008
Mrs. Hillman read this book to our class. All of the Funnybones books start in dark, dark places. We particularly enjoyed singing the song and our highlights included the part where the dog breaks into pieces. This is a very funny book which we all enjoyed. FUNNYBONES, 04 Feb 2005
This book has been around a long time, a favourite when i was a child, and now my own children since they were tiny. No kids bookshelf should be without this book, they'll love it!! Six stars, and even that won't be enough!!!!, 14 Oct 2004
It's AMAZING! The dramatic plot twists are archetypal of the children's adventure genre. In short, IT ROCKS! I think this book will appeal to the child in all of us. A great way for kids to learn as it juxtaposes humour and biological science as it intergrates to bone structure. The dramatic irony of the mishaps of the midnight trip keeps the audience in suspense and anticipation as to the story's climax. The typical genre conventions such as the full moon, the dark dark house, and the dark dark street, are the epitome of child ghost stories. READ IT! TJ. It is sure to become a best-loved book on the book shelf., 03 Aug 2001
This children's classic centres on the adventures of a big skeleton, a little skeleton and a dog skeleton. They venture out from their dark dark cellar in the hope of finding someone to scare. However, since everyone is asleep in bed, they have to make do with scaring themselves. The results of which are hilarious! One of the great things about this book is that the repetitive nature of the language ("On a dark dark hill, there was a dark dark town. In the dark dark town there was a dark dark street") means children (both readers and non-readers) can easily join in with the rhythm. It is great fun to read the story one-to-one or with a group of children. It is sure to become a best-loved book on the book shelf. Whilst the story is funny and has great accompanying illustrations, be warned that for children younger than say four, the style and nature of the book may be a little menacing!

How to encourage a 9 year old to read!, 15 Jul 2006
My 9 year old son was a very reluctant reader, it was painful trying to encouage him. Until his teacher introduced him to these books. Within a couple of days I was being begged to buy him the set. He has since gone on to read loads of goosebumps and other similar books - he rarely has his nose out of one. The secret is a mixture of toilet humour, vivid cartoon style text and a sending up of school staff. The only problem is the us spellings but the advantages outweigh this.
His problem is when are they going to produce more?
Full Wedgie Power - good fun for preteen boys, 15 Feb 2006
When we had run out of the excellent 'Astrosaurs' books to read, I bought this paperback book set for my son (9) who is a poor reader. I read him a few pages when in the bath or at bedtime, and we are really enjoying the stories. They are very American (the headmaster is a Principal) but any kid used to the better US Sitcoms like 'Jimmy Neutron', ' Neds survival guide' or 'Phil of the future' wouldn't even need the odd translation. The books are an easy read and are very witty (I think my son gets all of the jokes). The stories revolve around the two main rather naughty boy characters invented comic book hero 'Captain Underpants' and the odd occasions where their imagination merges with reality. The stories aren't anywhere near as puerile as the titles suggest, although they are accurate descriptions of the key plot elements.
This boxed collection contains the first five Capt Underpants books: The adventures of Capt Underpants, The attack of the killer toilets, The invasion of the incredibly naughty cafeteria ladies from outer space, The perilous plot of Professor Poopypants, and The wrath of the wicked wedgie woman. They are great stories for preteen boys, probably from around 5 upwards, and should be read in order. It might be best to save them for when 8 or so though as if they are good readers they can read them for themselves. The books have lots of clever comic style drawings as well. The only minor downside is the odd spelling for those practising their reading (it's US American with preteen schoolboy phonetic in the 'comics'). There are surprisingly few good books aimed squarely at young boys about, so highly recommended. Also try 'The tentacled terror', 'Horrid Henry', 'Seriously silly stories' and the 'Astrosaurs', with `The Demon Headmaster' for older preteens.
The kids love them & so do I, 20 Feb 2005
Certainly made me laugh reading them to my two boys (6 & 9). The eldest reads them all the time. My personal favourite is the professor poopypants name changer, same vein as horrid henry but boys everything is much sillier!
Absolutely brilliant box of books., 14 Jan 2004
It is a great collection of the amazing and fabulous adventure story books and they very funny aswell so buy them if you really like the sound of the book from this or any other review because it is absolutely brilliant.
Captain Underpants Collection, 09 Dec 2002
The set of books kept my seven year old son occupied for hours. This was amazing considering he is a child who usually refuses to pick up a book! The collection is particulalry aimed at young boys and the topics that will grab their attention with characters such as 'Professor Poopypants' a 'Talking toilet' and a superhero that operates on 'wedgie power'. The only down side to this book is the american spelling. However, if you have a young boy that is refusing to read, try this!

Big fun book, 09 Aug 2008
I bought this for my 18 month old after having a play in a bookshop and she really loves it! It is a big chunky book and on every third page there is a different track on which you set a little wind up train off to race around it. It works amazingly well! Each track is nicely illustrated with lots of interesting things to point at along the way. There are 3 tracks in total. I haven't even read her the interspersed stories yet as she only wants me to set the train off over and over again! I suspect that eventually the train will break or get lost but I think we have already had our moneys worth! Great fun!

Truely wonderful, I will be buying more for friends children in the very near future Beatrix Potter - the Complete Tales: The 23 Original Tales, 08 Aug 2008
The mirror of us all, 23 Jul 2008
Very special book, very special bear :)
Great rendition, though I must admit, I prefer having the individual books! (Maybe one day I shall have...)
Beautifully done tho :) Pooh and You, 14 Jun 2008
This lovely collection of Pooh Bear is superbly presented and includes all things Pooh! Perfect for anyone who is a fan or wishes to read to someone who is just starting out as a pooh fan. excellent A Classic that every home should have..., 23 Feb 2008
:) Wonderful book, 26 Nov 2007
Fantastic, 21 Jul 2007
My little girl adores this book. She loves to press the buttons and especially the 'cow' one! Thoroughly recommend. Great fun, 31 May 2008
If you don't know this story, it's about a couple of skeletons and a dog skeleton that live in a dark, dark cellar and venture out to scare people during the dead of night.

I ordered this book for my son who is 5 and in-between picture books and older books that have 'no colour on them so they must be boring' books.
They really appealed to his sense of humour and had us roaring with laughter. Now he likes to read during the day as well as at bedtime and my husband and i fight over who is going to read to him. Hilarously funny and i reccommend them to any adult or child who enjoys a really good laugh.
Fantastic! A Work of Pure Genius!, 16 Nov 2004
Captain Underpants and the Big, Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy: Night of the Nasty Nostril Nuggets Pt.1 is, simply put, the greatest book written since the dawn of time. The storyline is sensational, the written style is marvellous, the enthralling quality of the book is superb, and the overall presentation of this book is spectacular. I simply cannot find enough superlatives to describe how good this book is! you'll have to buy it for yourself to know exactly how i feel, but i assure you, when your eyes glance the cover of this book, you will not be able to put it down until you have finished it, and when that moment comes, the climax will leave you with a feeling so satisfying that you will feel at one with the world. Another stroke of genius from the authorial legend that is Dav Pilkey! This book is truly amazing! This is an absolutely essential purchase for any appreciative follower of classic literature! You will find out for yourself when you have read it! I can honestly say i have never read a work of art like it and now that i have i feel my life is complete and i feel a responsibility to alert the world of the unique talent and originality of the said author.

I have no idea what this book is about - I got it and a couple of others in the series for a friends son - he spent the entire time he stayed with us reading these books and loved them - enough said!

I am assuming that the review below, copied from the `Comments' area of this item, was the original review that the other two reviews refer to - so well done to all who got it deleted from the system.
I couldn't agree more with these two reviews on this item - this is a blank baby book for parents to fill in, with photos and text, as their baby develops over those precious first 12 months.
What does puzzle me is the fact that it got a positive vote in the first place - unless the author is also guilty of voting for his own reviews which is quite possible given how his `helpful' votes whizz up - you only need to look back at the review pages to see how obtuse the subjects are and how suspicious the voting is, especially on items that have other reviews which have no votes at all?
<< Still One of the Best Children's Stories of all Time, 8 May 2007
The Tale of Peter Rabbit was written in 1900 and has stood the test of time very well. Generations of children have loved the story and treasured the books of Beatrix Potter. It is up there among the greats of children's literature with Wind in the Willows, The Water Babies, Peter Pan, Treasure Island and many others.
In these days of computer games and electronic toys of one kind or another, books sadly are sometimes not as high on the list as they were a few years ago, perhaps that is why literacy in schools is not all that it could be. Personally as a child books were always my first love and Christmas would not have been the same without a Rupert annual.
Stories that involve animals as the main characters in books always seem to fascinate young children and Peter Rabbit has always been up there with the best. Next time you have to buy a present for a child, or even want to treat one of your younger grandchildren for no particular reason. Instead of looking for the latest DVD why not buy them a book. Peter Rabbit is a good one to start with.>>

Truely wonderful, I will be buying more for friends children in the very near future Beatrix Potter - the Complete Tales: The 23 Original Tales, 08 Aug 2008
:) Wonderful book, 26 Nov 2007
They are very American (the headmaster is a Principal) but any | | |
