Excellent, 19 Sep 2008
In our house it's called the Great Big Book of Everything. My son is five and we have this book for a couple of years. Thoroughly recommended. Feed Their Minds, 23 Mar 2006
It is amazing just how often we under-estimate the young mind's hunger for knowledge and their ability to understand. My 4 year old son is vey curious about the world around him, everything from planets to electricity. We now read the 'stories'in this book on a daily basis and he always insists on 'just one more'. It is easy to read with complementary graphics and is therefore a great way to introduce them to facts. I would strongly recommend it for parents who find themselves providing information to their children.

Lots of fun for my boys, 23 Oct 2006
My grandsons are into yucky things. They now have a pile of the Yuck Encyclopedia, Yuck's Fart Club, Yuck's Big Bogeys, and Gross Records - and they are in heaven. Excellent stuff for just baout eny child in my opinion.
A book you will fight your child to read!, 31 Mar 2006
This book is great. It is fully of really interesting stuff the seven year old boy inside is us all wants to know. I loved the stuff about how shrunken heads were made (I'd always wondered about that). My son loves this book too, the idea of pee being cleaner than spit has had him re-reading that page time after time. Buying this book was a great way to find out loads of vital stuff we couldn't live without. I have bought loads of copies now as this is a brilliant birthday pressie for a child aged 6-10. The book is very american in it's language and picture style but you soon get over that and it's not a problem.
Great fun-especially for boys, 24 Sep 2004
This book is great for little boys or boys of all ages. Its full of the horrible dirty things that boys find funny. I've just bought this for my 6 year old son for christmas and after looking through it,I know hes going to love it. Its factual but in a funny and filthy way if you know what I mean. Very entertaining. Well worth buying.
Perfect for Little Boys, 28 Jan 2004
I purchased this book for my nephew for Christmas over the internet and wasn't disappointed. Its around A4 size and made of non glossy pages containing lots of pictures and illustrations of things that are perfect for little boys for example what is puss and why do some farts make a noise and others don't. My nephew is a little young to read it yet but was very interested in all the grot and what he perceives to be the very naughty info it contains. On the other hand all the adults were happy to finally work out what spots are and why maggots exist and why farts smell differently (important subject with all that eating at Christmas)! The only downside is that for an english person its very american in its language and output but don't be completely put off for the money its not bad value and contains what most little boys want to know but aren't sure who to ask -
Exellent book for boys, 21 Jan 2004
My son has not put this book down since he recieved it at Christmas. It's a typical boy book full of beasties and gore but it been a delight to see him so engrossed in it and reading it over and over again. Would recommend for any little boys who need a bit of encouragement to spend time reading. I wish it was on the school ciriculum.

Absolutely Breathtaking!, 24 Apr 2008
I have just received this book from Amazon this morning and couldn't believe just how beautiful it is.So often with books I have read reviews and been slightly disappointed by the real thing-not so today. It is superbly made with stunning pop-ups and small chunks of accessible text by way of small information books -all with their own pop-ups.My children aged 7 and 4 have absolutely loved it and I am on here to order some more copies as birthday presents.A book that will be treasured!
great dinosaur book, 17 Mar 2008
we found this at our local library and just loved it and have since bought it for gifts. The pop-up creatures are amazing. My 7yr old son also got the mega-beast book, lots of interesting information on each page.
Wonderful, 17 Nov 2007
I bought this for my nephew's third birthday & it was a massive hit. I was a bit concerned as the dinosaurs are quite impressionistic but all concerned were amazed and enthralled & it's set to be a top book throughout his childhood as he grows into the different things the book has to offer.
A magical marvel, 24 Aug 2006
My 4 year old on received this spectacular book for his birthday and I have to say that it is simply wonderful. Bed time reading has never been so much fun, and we can never wait to discover what is hidden on the next page. This book is now on all of his friends wish lists and will undoubtedly grow with him.
Dinosaurs pop to life!, 01 Mar 2006
A gorgeous wonder of a book. Robert Sabauda has outdone himself this time. My five-year old adores it and feels very big and accomplished to have his very own encyclopedia! Each page has mini-pop up books. At every reading, it seems there is something new to be discovered about dinosaurs. My son loves to just stare and dream at the pop-ups. The information is fascinating as well. This book is destined to be a classic, one that our family will treasure for a long while.

A Great Book!, 07 Nov 2008
Dont be put off by the fact that they make a few mistakes, its obvious that this will happen in a book this size.
OK, so maybe it could be updated but this will only annoy real hardcore freaks.
My girlfriend and I are big fans of Marvel and still, almost a year on, flick through it every few day, learning something new everytime!
Great present for any comic book fan!
brill, 29 Mar 2008
wonderful book easy to read great artwork everything you need to know and didnt know wow
Excellent resource for the serious fan, 17 May 2007
I've been wanting to buy this for some time. It's relatively expensive and I didn't know if it justified the money.
One day, I bought it on a whim and all I can say is that I haven't regretted it a bit!
The book is quite extensive, covering hundreds of characters. There are some errors, but that's understandable on such wide-ranging tome. The art is great, obviously.
This made me remember characters from stories I read decades ago, that were long forgotten. Awesome.
DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS PIECE OF CRAP, 07 Oct 2006
Just bought the Marvel Encyclopedia, after reading the DC Encyclopedia and the OHOTMU and what can I say other than it was a waste of money. There are numorous inaccuracies in his book, like mistaking Captain Britain for Maelstorm and Jean Grey for Emma Frost. Most of the Marvel entries have not been updated despite the fact that some of the most important Marvel story line happend in the last year like the House of M. For example, Emma Frost's occupation is listed as Headmistress of the Massachusetts Academy. She's been with the X-Men for a considerable time now. According to the Encyclopedia, she is teaching Generation X. There is no mention of her relationship with Cyclops or the fact that she has a secondary mutation that allows her to turn to a diamond form. Anyone reading the Encyclopedia to get caught up on the Marvel U is going to be in for a surprise when they pick up the comics.
You'd be better off picking up the OHOTMU or the new updates which are out in comic stores.
Great, now I have to buy the DC Encyclopedia too!, 06 Oct 2006
I've been waiting for this to come out for quite some time and I haven't been dissappointed.
To compress very-nearly 50 years of history and continuity into a managable volume was always going to be a struggle, but I think the contributors have just about pulled it off. Granted, some of the characters' histories feel a little too compressed, with the editors obviously concentrating on the origins of each character rather than the ensuing adventures. This of course makes complete sense, unless you want the book to be 10,000 pages long!
Overall a damn fine effort that should reside on every comic book fans' coffee table.
Like the title of this review says, I now have the hankering to buy the DC edition of this series, which is probably the best review this book could have...

Good background information, 12 Oct 2008
My kids (8 and 5 year old) enjoy playing with Bionicles and have seen a couple of the films on DVD. It was difficult to follow how all the various characters were connected, that is until we got the encyclopedia. Now the whole Bionicle world makes a lot more sense and the kids enjoy playing with Bionicles even more, and creating their own stories around the "Mask of Life".
Find the Power, Live the Legend!, 12 Nov 2005
Ever wondered what a 'Mio' is? Ever wanted to know what Bionicles use as currency? If there is anything you don't know about Bionicle, this is the book for you! This detailed encyclopaedia includes everything you need to know about the mechanical world of Bionicle, from 'the Rahi' which inhabit the City of Legends, to the legendary Toa Metru. Inside you will find out what the Rahagas' past was like, and go face to face with the monstrous Zivon. The book also includes charts stating what the different Rahkshi can do as well as plenty more. Large format, 128 good quality pages, clearly laid out in alphabetical order interspersed with pictures, and includes 30 colourful stickers.

The information is fascinating as well. This book is destined to be a classic, one that our family will treasure for a long while.

OK, so maybe it could be updated but this will only annoy real hardcore freaks.
My girlfriend and I are big fans of Marvel and still, almost a year on, flick through it every few day, learning something new everytime!
Great present for any comic book fan!

An outstanding production, 10 Sep 2008
For over forty years the James Bond movies have thrilled audiences worldwide. The twenty-second, `Quantum in Solace', is currently being filmed with Daniel Craig, the sixth actor to don the mantle of the super-spy. This book is coffee-table size, a lavish compendium of almost everything you wanted to know about Eon Productions' James Bond films and their connection with the books that spawned them.
This encyclopedia has the official blessing of producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli and the authors were given unprecedented access to a vast library of still photographs.
There's a double-page spread on Ian Fleming and each of the actors who have played Bond, all containing interesting insights, many unfamiliar. Then there are illustrated sections on the villains, the women, the supporting cast, the vehicles, the weapons and equipment - each character or item is backed up by a full-colour photograph from the archives. Every one of the 21 movies has a double-page spread, revealing fascinating facts about the filming schedule, the directors, the music, the credits and the problems encountered. Each entry is given a detailed write-up referencing the film plot or the book.
It's fascinating to read about the continual moving with the times for the storylines. No aspect of the books is overlooked - scenes or characters may be shifted but they're invariably utilised eventually, such as the shark eating Felix Leiter, which was moved from the book `Live and Let Die' to the film `Licence to Kill'.
Complete with its description, film appearances and user, every gadget or weapon is shown - the fiendish, the clever and the exotic. Cross references are intriguing, too: the mini-breather used in `Thunderball' was absently pulled out of Bond's drawer while he wrote his resignation letter in `OHMSS'. It's that kind of minor yet interesting detail which makes this book a pleasure to read; the authors have been thorough indeed. Where there's a divergence from the book in the film, it's mentioned.
While the main villains - Oddjob, Goldfinger, Dr Kananga, Rosa Klebb, Carver, Drax, Graves, Elektra King, Largo, Le Chiffre, Sanchez, Scaramanga, Zorin, Trevelyan, Blofeld, Renard and Dr No - get full-page coverage with plenty of never-before seen pictures, all of the other villains are identified, together with their characteristics, status (living or dead!) and the actor who played them. Even small part characters get a mention, for example the `three blind mice' killers at the beginning of `Dr No.'
Not only has Bond changed with each actor bringing something fresh to the part, but also some supporting cast have undergone transformations, whether that's the seven actors who have played Felix Leiter or the three actors who have played M and Moneypenny.
It may not appear cheap, but this book is certainly value for money. If you have enjoyed the films over the years, then this is the kind of book you will find yourself dipping into time and again. An outstanding production - just like the films, really.
The James Bond Encyclopedia, 27 Jan 2008
I got this book for xmas and i have to say that it is a very good read. There are plenty of pictures and information about the character of Bond, the six actors who have played him, the women, the villains, the cars, the gadgets, it's all in here. I am a big Bond fan and there was a lot of things in the book that even i was not aware of.
On the downside, there was only a two page spread detailing each of the 21 films to date and although there was some interesting trivia, i felt as though there should have been more written on them.
If anybody reading this has only just discovered Bond or has never purchased a book on the franchise, then i would recommend this one and also the updated ESSENTIAL BOND. 4/5

Loads of information displayed in such an eye-catching interesting way, amazing attention to detail - my 9-year-old who says he "doesn't like reading" can hardly put it down and has had several later-than-usual nights because we're so busy looking through the book together; I have really enjoyed it looking at with him.
Wow - brilliant book!, 29 Sep 2008
This really is an amazing book. Loads of information displayed in such an eye-catching interesting way, amazing attention to detail - my 9-year-old who says he "doesn't like reading" can hardly put it down and has had several later-than-usual nights because we're so busy looking through the book together; I have really enjoyed it looking at with him. If you want your child to be encouraged to enjoy learning I'd thoroughly recommend this book.

A good refence book, 19 Aug 2004
Bought for my granddaughter aged 7 years. I feel it is rather large for small hands and wish the brightly coloured jacket was more durable. However the encyclopaedia itself is a source of joy and education. A very good introduction to reference books and how to use them. My granddaughter turns to it whenever she has questions, without prompting. She is constantly showing off her knowledge.
