Product Description
Percy, the park keeper, always feeds the animals in the park where he lives. But on a very cold winter night his animal friends require more of him than just food. One by one they appear, shivering on his doorstep, asking for shelter. Soon there is no room in the bed for Percy. This, the first Percy story, introduces us to an endearing and endurable character whose relationship to his animal friends is like that of a tolerant parent to mischievous children. The expressive colour illustrations perfectly complement the humorous and easy-to-read text to create the perfect book to share with young children. (Ages 2 to 6)

Love it!, 01 May 2008
It is winter and it is snowing. All through the evening, Percy gets knocks from various different animals and they all want to share the bed. The problem is the bed is too small for them all. How will all of the animals and Percy get through the night? Find out in this book... I really, really, really like Percy the Park Keeper adventures (and have got four of the books) and would definitely and positively rate this book 8/ 10. I would absolutely strongly recommend it to everyone who likes Percy the Parker as well! Nick Butterworth has done a great job with all of the books - so I look forward to read and review other of his books!
One Snowy Night is a brilliant book!, 14 Mar 2008
I like this book because it is cold and all of the animals come to Percy's house.
A truly magical story, 30 Aug 2007
What can I say about this truly wonderful and magical book that has not already been said. It is wonderfully written and beautifully illustrated and just the right length for a snuggly bedtime story. My son is now 4 years old and still loves to hear the stories about Percy the Park Keeper. We even purchased the DVD (which is truly wonderful too).
I personally love to read this story and have even been known to suggest it to my son for bedtime reading. If you don't already own this book, then don't hesitate to buy it today, you will not regret it.
One Snowy Night (Nick Butterworth), 27 May 2007
It's so fantatic to be a 39 year old toddler! This and the others in the series are simply beautifully written with unforgettable illustrations.Even if you don't have children, buy this; you will never regret it.
Rivetting to read as well as listen to., 02 Feb 2007
Lovely book to read and, for my 3 year old son, listen to. Lots of actions (knocking on doors, snuggling under blankets, budging up etc), bit of a frightener (not too much) with the noise under the shed and a spot of 'who is where?'. Even explains how the fox is allowed in with the other animals.
I'll be looking to get more in the series but we're still into this one.

A Great Calendar , 23 Nov 2008
I discovered this calendar last year whilst searching for something that had enough space for each day. I must say that I have been pleasantly surprised with how my husband has managed to actually keep track of where the kids are and what appointments are when using this calendar!! The only downside is I would like more spaces, with seven members to our family it still gets a little overcrowded, still I guess I could always invest in a second one!
Want/Need another one for 2009, 13 Oct 2008
I got one on sale last year & was a bit sceptical of the format, but have come to rely on it. With my son now in school and daughter interested in trying dance classes, it's great to keep track of every little thing that my tired brain (also have 4 mo. old) needs to keep track of. The spaces are more horizontal than vertical so have more room to write what's needed. I have a different colored marker for each of us & used the extra column for general info. or festivals or other activities we might want to do. Athough I would be picky about having a tradition format calendar that starts on Sunday, and never got the hang of those kind that have the days on the left, this one is easy to adapt to, and helps show the children how far away something is since it's linear. Weekends are highlighted & cartoons cute & cheery.

Mum's family calendar by Sandra Boynton is the best calendar i've ever had, the layout is just perfect its clearly set out and easy to read the best thing about it is its devided into five separate sections so everyone gets their own personal colum, also as well as being a calendar it has lots of other great features which makes it a great buy!

Entertaining..., 14 Nov 2008
Very much a junior book but very enjoyable and doesn't get too bogged down in making sure it gives the right 'educational' message. I finished this book with a huge smile on my face, as did my 7yr old nephew!
A simple tale, and a visual delight., 26 Oct 2008
Dennis was differnt.
Why was her different, I hear you ask?
Well, a small clue might be in the title of this book...
I'm sure David Walliams doesn't need any introduction, but in case you don't recognise the name, he's most well known for his partnership with Matt Lucas in Little Britain.
The actual book is a visual delight, both inside and out. It's illustrated by Quentin Blake, famous for his illustrations in Roald Dahl's books. An addition such as this cannot fail to add charm to a book, and it certainly works here.
The story is what you would expect, and I won't go into the details. It is basically a simple children's story, one I can imagine appalling to my nine year old daughter, and upwards. It explores, in a gentle way, the issue of being different to others, accepting yourself, and finding acceptance from others.. and for others. There is also just the right degree of humour, to make this appeal to most people.
This book will also appeal to adults.. not so much because there is some hidden depth to the book, but rather for it's simplicity, it's humour, and it's delightful illustrations. It's not an in depth commentary, but rather a simple story, with a simple message.
I'm about to hand my copy over to my previously mentioned daughter.. she has already picked it up and said it looked good, but of course the test will be how it reads! For fans of David Walliams, or even Quentin Blake, this will make a nice addition to the bookshelves.
Walliams and Blake a brilliant combo, 17 Oct 2008
This book is brilliant. Love Walliams' sense of humour, as always, and I couldn't help but wonder just how much of this was based on childhood experiences! Takes a lot of imagination to write something like this and I'm pretty sure it will capture the imagination of kids and adults alike. Add to that Quentin Blake's distinctive illustrations and you have a perfect combination of wit, humour and a story that's wonderfully entertaining. Get this for a good giggle!
Perfect, 12 Oct 2008
Funny, moving, just perfect. It's an instant classic, I can't recommend it highly enough. So much richer and deeper than 'Little Britain', and Quentin Blake's illustrations are beautiful. I now know what to buy all the children in my life for Christmas, and the some of the adults too!
Not like anything I've read before, 12 Oct 2008
I am eight years old and I really liked this book because it is funny and not like anything I have ever read before. The characters are brilliant. I like Lisa, Darvesh's mum and best of all, Dennis. I think that a boy dressing up as a french girl is a very funny idea. I would like to buy this book for all my friends at Christmas, boys and girls.

Drawing for the Artistically Undiscovered, 14 Oct 2008
My daughter (age 13) bought this book twice, the second time with her own money (!), because she enjoyed doing it so much. This and Watercolours for the Artistically Undiscovered are quite brilliant.Drawing for the Artistically Undiscovered (Klutz)
Excellent, 25 Aug 2008
Quite possibly the best "how-to-draw" book ever written! Got me restarted on art after an absence of many years. And Quentin Blake is just a genius!
Don't be fooled into thinking this is a kid's book as I almost was. Kids can already draw like this, it's only adults who have forgotten how.
I buy this book as a gift for all my friends and they all love it.
Great Fun but..., 05 Jul 2008
Drawing for the artistically Undiscovered is a fascinating book with many pages on how to draw things which are tricky to put down on paper. But the two pencils they provide are quite tricky to sharpen. So it would be good to have a good quality sharpener on hand.
GOOD FUN AND A GREAT CONFIDENCE BUILDER, 05 Jan 2007
I brought this for my daughter for Christmas. She decided to take Art at GCSE level but was finding it a bit of hard work, mainly due to a lack of confidence in her own ability. However, within a few days of Christmas and a few pages of this book later, we now have sketches all over the house and she is really enthusiastic about going back to school and showing off her new talent and belief in herself! I might even have a go myself!
Quite simply a lot of fun, 21 Mar 2006
I bought this book to share with my 12 year old daughter who is much better at drawing than me. I love the inspirational introduction, which informs us that there’s no such thing as a mistake, and quickly builds up confidence. Before you know it, you’re just drawing for fun. A great book to share, and see who can come up with the most imaginative sketches.

wonderfully warming entertainment, 27 Apr 2007
Years ago when my children were all young their grandad enjoyed reading to them all of Percy's exploits. No matter how many times he visited, the favourite bed time story was always 'One Snowy night' which he read with such exuberance that it had them all up until well passed their bedtimes!
Lovely stories, 21 Feb 2007
The Percy the Park Keeper stories were always my favourite when I was little. They are lovely, short stories with very good illustrations.

Product Description
The Enchanted Wood is one of Enid Blyton's most memorable and truly imaginative stories, capturing a world where almost anything can happen if you just believe in the magic of nature and its creatures. Many adults will have fond memories of discovering the world of The Enchanted Wood: from the delightfully gentle Silky the Fairy, to the wonderfully bizarre but terminally jolly Moon-Face who along with a host of strange and mysterious characters live among the branches of The Magic Faraway Tree. Kate Winslet, the award-winning actress, was captivated by the stories at an early age and during her pregnancy approached the company who own the rights to the Enid Blyton name to ask them if they would be interested in having her record these magical stories on tape. The result is stunning. Winslet, with her gentle, singsong voice, captures the pure joy of these unforgettable stories from the moment the tale begins, and Joe, Beth and Fanny--the three young children who move from the city with their family to the country house surrounded by the Enchanted Wood--are captured as the wide-eyed and open-minded children they really are, eager to become involved in all manner of adventure and never once questioning that this strange world they have entered might not be quite, well, normal. Probably the most memorable and certainly the most magical Enid Blyton stories of all are here brought to life with aplomb, with Winslet's enthusiasm for the tales she tells on this five-hour collection shining through. This recording of The Enchanted Wood is set to become a classic, and would make a fantastic gift for the young, while providing an enchanting trip down memory lane for the adult who has never quite let go of the magic. (Ages 4 and over) --Susan Harrison

Weekends are highlighted & cartoons cute & cheery. best ever, 11 Sep 2008
I would like to buy this book for all my friends at Christmas, boys and girls.
by Ottilie Blackhall Drawing for the Artistically Undiscovered, 14 Oct 2008
My daughter (age 13) bought this book twice, the second time with her own money (!), because she enjoyed doing it so much. This and Watercolours for the Artistically Undiscovered are quite brilliant.Drawing for the Artistically Undiscovered (Klutz) Excellent, 25 Aug 2008
A great book to share, and see who can come up with the most imaginative sketches. percy the park keeper, 26 Oct 2007
I have two older children that i read these books to when they were younger and thay loved them very much I know have another child who is 5 and I have just started reading the percy books and she is loving finding out how percy helps his animal friends when thay are in trouble these are great books wonderfully warming entertainment, 27 Apr 2007
Enchanted as Enchanted can be!, 13 Jan 2008
See what happens when three children, Jo, and his two sisters, Bessie and Fannie, discover their very own Enchanted Wood, and meet new friends Silky the Fairy, Moon-Face and the Saucepan Man who all live in the magical Faraway Tree. Their real adventures begin when they all climb up and discover the most thrilling and peculiar! Lands that exist beyond the clouds at the top of the tree which some are good and some rather confusing and some plain dreadful. I like most of the Lands and characters like the angry pixie, Mr Watizname and Dame Washalot.
The characters are funny and some of the lands are very exciting like the land of snow and ice where there are evil snowman and even Santa Claus.
My favourite book!!!, 22 Jul 2007
Just the title breathed excitement through me as a child. An English Teacher read it to us in junior school. I never thought about buying a copy until I had children.
Now I read it to my 3 year old girl and 7 year old boy each night and they both can't wait for the next chapter.
Apart from the excellent stories the chapters are just long enough to keep the children awake and just short enough for parents not to lose their voices!
You can also pick out any chapter at random and it will start with the children climbing the tree and end with them tucked up safely in bed.
They are great for reading to children of mixed ages.
This book is so inspiring and reminds me that playing outside with children, making up your own adventures is the best fun ever!!!!
The Wishing Chair books are also made the same way. Although my son hasn't tired of them yet I have just bought him a book from Blyton's Secret series for him to read to himself - although I will still be reading this book to them out loud - I love making up different voices for each of the characters! Just the best book series ever, 17 Nov 2006
Harry Potter is fabulous, but before JK Rowling there was Enid Blyton. I am 34 and still have copies of the Enchanted wood and Up the Faraway tree with me...my mother was having a spring clean a couple of years ago and I saved these books from being dumped because they have been intergral to my love of reading. Please do your children a favour and turn off the Playstation and Nintendo and spend time reading them Enid Blyton classics. It will be well worth your time. I thank her for her books as I think her writing has kept me a child at heart. Excellent!! Magical, exciting and enchanting, 18 Mar 2004
This is an excellent book i would recomend it 2 everyone even my mum enjoyed it.It is about joe, beth and frannie who move into a new home in the country right next 2 an enchanted wood. They find the faraway tree which is a massive tree which is higher than the clouds. They make some special new friends who live up the tree and when they climb to the top they find themselves in different magical lands. They get into misceif, have fun and have adventures. It is really exciting and magical. You feel as if you are in the book tasting the delicious sounding cakes they eat with there new friends and you have as much fun and enjoyment readind it as they do in the magical lands. They visit the land of take what you want, roundabout land,The land of ice and snow,The land of birthdays, the land of toys, rocking land and many more exciting, magical, enchanting lands. I would be here all day explaining how good it is so i will give you 1 word 2 sum this book up- EXCELLENT!!!! buy it now u will love it and have loads of fun reading it.
As Enchanting as ever!!, 12 Feb 2004
Although my 5 year old(now 6) daughter had an abundance of books, I felt an urge to read her my old taped up copy (at least 30yrs old) of The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton. Primarily nostalgia, because I remembered it so vividly, secondly,I knew it would capture her imagination. I received this book as a reward for attending'Sunday School'and,as a young girl, read it several times. My daughter was fascinated by the stories of the three children and their adventures into the unknown-and I found myself yearning to read more. This prompted me to search for more stories(which I knew existed),and I found the trilogy-even my 2 year old daughter knows of 'Moonface & Silky'now, through'The Faraway Tree'& The Folk of The Faraway Tree' If you never read another book to your child, please don't deprive them of this fantastic journey-sorry J.K, I've yet to read yours, but for me the Queen of the Imagination will always be Enid Blyton

Arrived quickly and in good order. I bought a second hand and it looks new
Fanrtastic story, but buy the original!, 14 Mar 2008
Dame Slap, who had me under the bed covers quivering with joyful fear, as my Mum read this to me at bedtime is now called DAME SNAP! This cannot be forgiven, and sums up what is wrong with the world today. This version is too PC, if you read the original to your children you can explain how things have changed over time. The use of language can be discussed (ie the word "queer" instead of strange) and even Golliwogs can be introduced into the evenings discussion. Enid was so talented, I have only just realised how prolific she was. By the 1939 version...it is great!
It's amazing!, 10 Feb 2008
This book is just totally fab! I enjoyed it so much. I read it when i was younger and now i still read it. By myself and to my kids. It's so great and a lovely adventure! My kids are constantly playing 'Faraway Tree'
I hope you enjoy it as much as i did! It was really super-duper!
Creating memories for generations, 03 Apr 2007
When i was a little girl i loved this book so much. I used to read it and go to sleep dreaming of the wonderful lands at the top of the faraway tree. I have now just finished reading it to my[...] son and he is similarly enchanted. the combination of magic, adventure and just the kind of things children really want to hear about ( like the Land of Presents) creates a winning combination for every generation. I hope my son will read it to his children one day.
I also like the fact that the kids help their parents so much, maybe this will influence him?? i can hope...
Very, very magical, 06 Jul 2006
Every child is sure to enjoy this tale of magic, fantasy and unusual lands at the top of the Faraway Tree... I still remember with just a bit of nostalgia the Land of Birthdays...the Land of Take What You Want.. The Land of Topsy Turvy. This is a lovely, innocent book for children with an imagination and I just don't understand the rewriting of it Adults should stay away from children's world and remember that children will not think twice about words such as Dick or queer. Why not just rewrite EVERY book that has ever been written before 1990 if we insist on doing that to Enid Blyton?? 5 stars go to the original version, which is the only one my kids will be reading!

Weekends are highlighted & cartoons cute & cheery. best ever, 11 Sep 2008
I would like to buy this book for all my friends at Christmas, boys and girls.
by Ottilie Blackhall Drawing for the Artistically Undiscovered, 14 Oct 2008
My daughter (age 13) bought this book twice, the second time with her own money (!), because she enjoyed doing it so much. This and Watercolours for the Artistically Undiscovered are quite brilliant.Drawing for the Artistically Undiscovered (Klutz) Excellent, 25 Aug 2008
A great book to share, and see who can come up with the most imaginative sketches. percy the park keeper, 26 Oct 2007
I have two older children that i read these books to when they were younger and thay loved them very much I know have another child who is 5 and I have just started reading the percy books and she is loving finding out how percy helps his animal friends when thay are in trouble these are great books wonderfully warming entertainment, 27 Apr 2007
This prompted me to search for more stories(which I knew existed),and I found the trilogy-even my 2 year old daughter knows of 'Moonface & Silky'now, through'The Faraway Tree'& The Folk of The Faraway Tree' If you never read another book to your child, please don't deprive them of this fantastic journey-sorry J.K, I've yet to read yours, but for me the Queen of the Imagination will always be Enid Blyton
magic faraway tree, 26 Jun 2008
The BEST Famous Five since 1963, 03 Sep 2008
This is a fantastic book for fans and collectors of the Famous Five, whatever their age. It is a handsome book, carefully and artistically produced. It is a thick hard-backed volume, 253 pages long, in full colour, and seemingly assembled with much love and respect as well as affection towards both Enid Blyton and the Famous Five.
The book is not only packed with plenty of articles on how to survive various situations, such as shipwrecks, being lost, crossing rivers, cracking codes, climbing rocks, spotting a liar, etc, but also contains a full-length new Famous Five story about a long lost treasure. The story portion of the book is excellently illustrated in full colour, in a style very reminiscent of the original 'Fives' illustrator, Eileen Soper.
Where this book really comes into its own, however, is the fact that the narrative isnt written by an author trying to emulate the style of Enid Blyton, so the style is never uncomfortably compared to that of the originals. It is supposedly a joint effort from the four human members of the Five themselves(now grown to adulthood) who experienced this mystery/adventure way back in 1959 but, unlike their other adventures, were unable to solve it at the time.
This clever ploy on behalf of the publishers fits in perfectly with the fact that Blyton never actually produced a 'Five' book in 1959 (the only year, between 1942 and 1963 that she failed to do so)
The 'Five' offer the reader a chance to solve the mystery for themselves, supplying them with all of the clues they collected as children: maps, plans, diary extracts etc, in order to do so. There are letters to read, codes to decipher, plans and maps to follow. Sometimes the special 'book marker' de-coder needs to be used, which, when placed over various letters etc enables the reader to discover secret messages hidden within larger pieces of text. It is a very cleverly written book, and a very welcome addition to the 21 'legitimate' books already written about the Famous Five by Enid Blyton.
This book deserves to be extremely popular, and is a brilliant example of just how good a 'continuation' novel can be if time and trouble is taken over its production.
Chorion and Hodder should be loudly applauded.
