Simply the best guide, 02 Mar 2002
This is quite simply the best guide on Amsterdam I have read. Each area of the City is broken down and detailed descriptions of where to eat, drink, 'smoke', party, club, stay and sightsee are detailed within each section. Listings of the best coffeeshops, bars, Grand Cafe's and restaurents are at the back. The 'Day & Night' Map is wonderfully detailed showing everything from location of bars and restaurents detailed in the main text to tram line numbers and canal boat routes. Everything you could possibly need during your stay is clearly detailed. Those who want to see the cultural side of this dazzling city would also find the guide invaluable. All the sites are listed including prices, galleries, museums, churches...you name it ! Even where the trendy shops are is listed and several 'specialist' shops are listed too. If I ever need hair extensions whilst in 'Dam I know where to go, and how much it would cost ! Sections on how to get there by train, air or water are well written and it even tells you how to use the rail ticket dispensing machines and which type of ticket is best to buy. Quite simply an invaluable, wonderfully written guide. The only gripe I would have is that the accomodation section needs to be bigger with more mid priced tourist class hotels listed.
best guide book everrrrrr!, 19 Aug 2001
loved this guide book! the maps were clear and easy to follow. the info was hip and up to the minute - and includes the "what you REALLY want to know about amsterdam" stuff that other guide books only hint at (... best coffee shops, red light district guide, designer clothes shops, 2nd hand clothes shops etc ) restaurant reviews and recommendations were spot on and i had the best weekend ever courtesy of this book. buy it!

didn't seem authoritative, 15 Dec 2007
I wondered what the author's qualifications were for writing this. I wasn't convinced he was an expert. Maybe that's why is is out of print!

most helpful, 15 Mar 2003
In my job as a coach driver showing tourists around London,it is most helpful to have a small yet full book of information. When asked for a particular restaurant or nightclub or famous sight, the guide gives me precise details of address etc.The unique day and night maps are terrific,24 hours of fun can be worked out so easily.
