An indispensible guide for level 2 Beauty Therapy, 14 Sep 2008
As a Lecturer of Beauty Therapy I have found this book indispensible as a reference both for planning lessons and for my students for City and Guilds NVQ2 Beauty Therapy. I have met Lorraine Nordmann (an External Verifier for City and Guilds) whilst I was assessing students; and found her to be both exacting and knowledgeable. This book matches the teaching standards perfectly and so is ideal for students and Lecturers alike. There are clear learning objectives in all sections; and the book is easy for students to read too. qualified beauty therapist/nail technician/makeup artist, 12 Nov 2006
as a professional i must say that this book is fantastic!
this is a must for all beauty therapy students, colour pictures really help too
this book really does cover everything from skin disorders to nail extensions
i will definately recommend this book Beauty therapy the Foundations NVQ Level 2, 11 Jan 2005
great book a must for anyone in the industry. No wonder my college lecturers use it as a "beauty bible"!!!, 30 Jan 2002
Clear, easy to digest guidance on all aspects of beauty procedures. Beautifully illustrated, excellent step-by-step photography. Covers everything from making appointments to detailed anatomy. Can't wait for Level 3 !!! Essential to get you through your NVQ 2, 22 Feb 2001
This book contains all the knowledge and information you need in order to pass your NVQ 2 Beauty Therapy successfully. In my opinion it is the most concise and well illustrated of the NVQ Beauty Therapy books. I especially liked the simple step by step diagrams which helped with the more complicated areas of the syllabus. The content covers the syllbus fully but without going into too much detail on areas where in depth knowledge is not required. I also liked the real photos featured which show a true to life illustration of what cn be achieved by beauty therapy treatments, this is also inspiring as it shows you what you the outcomes of the skill you will have learnt by the end of the course. This book provides excellent revision material (there are short self assessments at the end of each section) and will act as an invaulable reference guide during and after you have finished your beauty therapy NVQ 2.

8 out of 10 ITEC A&P students preferred it, 17 Jun 2008
I teach the ITEC A&P qualification and know only too well how difficult it is to find a text book written at the level required to support the course and syllabus (A level).
I have used the Louise Tucker book for the last four years but it lacks decent illustrations and contains a shocking number of mistakes, even after a trillion editions - its biggest critism.
However I aim to use this book for the next academic year, after I discovered it too late for this year's students. It is written in a simple easy-to-read manner with plenty of activities such as labelling diagrams, which may seem a bit 'play school' to some, but are a proven technique to successful learning and retention of information. It may not fully support the ITEC syllabus but neither does any other text book.
A useful book for anyone studying ITEC or wishing to self-educate on the workings of the human body.
Great book - a good foundation for your A&P library, 31 Mar 2007
I am studying Aromatherapy and Massage and found this book helped me get through the A&P modules successfully. It is clear, concise with very helpful diagrams and 'colouring' workpages to reinforce information you have just read. I found it invaluable as a reference point and it made it much easier to approach other more 'technical' A&P textbooks as it gives you a basic but solid understanding. Well worth adding to the library, particularly if you are studying holistic therapies.
A&P guide, 31 Jan 2007
This is a good book for Holistic therapists. I use it in conjunction with Louise Tucker: An Intor to A & P and Ross & Wilson 10th Ed A&P and Tortora "the Bible" on A & P with online interactive flash test etc. Half way through the course and have read every book so far and use them all in conjunction in order to get the best overview of A & P as some aspects are not covered in as much detail in Francesca Gould's book as others. Worth buying to add to the library!
Not for the mature student, 12 Jan 2007
I am a mature student and was advised that I would have to have this book for my course of study. Whilst the book appears to be fairly correct when compared to other more professional text books, I'm afraid to say I found the presentation and style was a bit too 'babyish'. I would consider myself to be an intelligent woman capable of learning from a book designed for adult study, but unfortunately felt like I was studying from a book designed more for children than an adult. In all I would have to say it's not the book I would chose, given the choice again. The book is ok but better suited for school children.
Another Great Book!, 30 Jan 2006
Extremely glad I purchased this book from Amazon. I am studying beauty therapy and was not looking forward to the A&P part, a lot of books that I have looked at buying were very long winded, technical and make you want to put them down! This is simple, clear, and tells you the basic facts without too much detail, but I feel that it covers the essentials. There are some parts of the book that offer you "revision" by crosswords and questions, which I haven't done, but a good of way of learning if it works for you! Very good author and very good book!

A solid foundation of holistic massage for beauty therapy students!, 08 Nov 2008
Francesca Gould writes in her own very informative style. As with many other books written by her; such as her book: Aromatherapy for Holistic Therapists; this book is again written with great expertise and sound knowledge of the subject area she is writing about. As with all her books they provide the foundation for the subject and are useful for tutors to plan lessons and also for students taking courses of beauty therapy and holistic therapies. First class instruction!

A thorough and knowledgeable reference guide for Level 3 Beauty Therapy, 14 Sep 2008
As a Lecturer of Beauty Therapy I can highly recommend this book as a thorough and knowledgeable reference guide both for planning lessons and for students following the City and Guilds NVQ3 Beauty Therapy path. I have met Lorraine Nordmann (an External Verifier for City and Guilds) whilst I was assessing students; and found her to be both exacting and well-informed. As with the Level 2 Beauty Therapy book written by the same author; this book matches the teaching standards perfectly and so is ideal for students and Lecturers alike. Again, there are clear learning objectives in all sections; and one particular outstanding feature is the `expanded treatment advice' to make the most of retail opportunities and the `timings of treatments' guidelines. Any lecturer of Beauty Therapy will understand that the importance of timing treatments; and that it is usually one of the hardest skills for students to initially master; but one that is essential to overcome if salon treatments are to become commercially viable and profitable.

"A great book for students", 25 Oct 2008
I found this book really informative during my aromatherapy course, it has all the information you need including the history of aromatherapy, health and safety issues, plus great diagrams of the plants, and also tasks throughout the book to help you along.
I found this book easy to understand and also 'interesting' in the way it is presented.
Essential study for Level 3 Beauty Therapy students!, 14 Sep 2008
Whilst teaching Level 3 VTCT Aromatherapy; this book was an essential reference guide; providing many opportunities for creating appealing and informative lessons. I recommended this book to my students; and many of them who purchased this book found it invaluable for their studies. It is a methodical and extensive book that covers all aspects of Aromatherapy theoretical knowledge; and the illustrations are exceptionally detailed and specific. I am a particular fan of providing students with mini tests at the end of their lessons. This helps consolidate learning and provides useful feedback to the teacher. This book helps both students and Lecturers tremendously in this respect.
Great study aid!, 23 Jun 2007
I'm currently studying aromatherapy and I'm finding this book really useful! It covers all the basic aspects you need to know including the history of essential oils, health and safety, business aspects aswell as covering many essential oils and how to mix them for different ailments.
The best thing about this book is the tasks. There are spaces for you to answer questions and fill in diagrams which I find helps learn things much quicker!
Must for aromatherapy students!
Excellent, 31 Dec 2005
This is a small book, but packed with information. Although not as technical as the Salvatore Battaglia book, it contains almost all the basic information needed for VTCT Aromatherapy assignments. That, & it contains fab diagrams of the plants which can be copied for said assignments!

Very useful and informative book!, 25 Jul 2007
I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about enroling on an Indian Head Massage course. It's well laid out and easy to understand. It certainly helped me!!!
a must for any VTCT student. Fab, fab fab, 12 Nov 2006
this book fantastic
anyone who is or has done a level 3 VTCT course will know that massage movements are so much easier to learn if you have photos
the fact that this book has full colour pictures and easy to understand text makes it a must have buy
the little quizes at the end of each chapter really help you to test yourself
Excellent, excellent excellent!, 25 Jul 2006
This book is great for both students and newly qualified practioners. The step-by-step techniques are easy to follow and the clear photographs complement the written text perfectly.
The anatomy and physiology section is detailed yet comprehensible and perfect for this level of study.
The self-assessment questions are good and definatly make you think about all aspects of what you are learning. They certainly prepared me for being questioned by both tutors and clients.
The course I completed hardly mentioned chakras etc at all (which was a shame and thankfully something I covered during Reiki classes) but the information on this subject in this book was informative and easy to follow.
This book also has a good chapter on health and safety - great for reference.
A very useful and excellent book that is well worth the money.
A detailed book made easy to understand, 07 Nov 2004
This is a good quality written book about Indian Head Massage. It gives detailed information on anatomy and physiology, massage techniques, chakras and auras without confusing you with jargon. It is really easy to understand and it has quick quizzes to help you learn the information. The massage techniques are clearly explained with text and photographs from the beginning of the treatment to the end. A full 30 - 40 minute treatment. At the end of the book is a memory card of all the techniques in order, for you to easily jog your memory when doing a treatment. I have found this really helpful and it has allowed me to put the sequence to memory pretty well. The book also goes into working with energies and auras which I found really interesting. It is important when working with massage to know about energies etc, which I think all too often is missing. It also explains a lot about how to include oils in the treatment. A technique used in India. Another thing which I found really handy is that it explains about the treatment procedure, contra-indications and how to provide a professional service as a practicioner. I have just started practicing this type of massage and this book has been invaluable
An excellent book, 10 Jun 2004
This is an excellent book to be used by students and existing therapists alike. Students will find it extremely useful as it covers regulations as well as Anatomy & Physiology needed for VTCT exams

i will definately recommend this book Beauty therapy the Foundations NVQ Level 2, 11 Jan 2005
great book a must for anyone in the industry.

Early days for a total novice......, 11 Oct 2005
Bought this prior to starting a course in Reflexology, have read through quite a bit, and in humble opinion the book is great. Nice balance of history, approach, technical and application, for someone like me its prised open my skeptical mind a little more prior to actually starting the course. Recommend this to anyone looking to or wanting to consider reflexology whether on its own or part of the bigger holistic approach to healing. Really nice book, large format, clear, concise and reasonably well written, covers reflexology in a methodical and practical way without treating the reader like a total idiot.
A Teacher's review, 04 Jan 2003
I used this book as one of the text books while teaching reflexology in F.E. I found it straight forward, easy to understand and the activity's and progress checks were very useful. An excellent book for beginners or experienced alike.

Hands on Reading for a Hands on Profession!, 16 Jan 2008
A comprehensive guide to sports massage, ranging from ethics of practise and client care right through to detailed analysis of practical techniques and sports injuries.
This well laid out reference manual is ideal for students of the subject and the practising therapist alike. An absolute must for the library of anyone in the industry worth their salt.
No level 2 Beauty Therapy student should be without this book, 12 Sep 2008
It was my good fortune to study under Janet Simms (a foremost authority in Beauty Therapy) who was instrumental in inspiring many students to carry forward their beauty therapy skills in to the workplace; and responsible for passing on all the traditional technical and practical application skills necessary for the modern beauty therapist to become a skilled practitioner. All the very best techniques are covered in this practical guide; with an emphasis on quality of client care and the highest of salon treatments and standards. No level 2 Beauty Therapy student should be without this book. This is a standard text book that will be around for a very long time.
The book contained everything I needed to do my course work, 19 Oct 2000
This book is written in plain english, all the technical terms are explained fully in easy to understand terms. I have not had to look at another book. I have puchased this again after misplacing my first copy and would not attend collage without it. All the diagrams are well presented and easy to follow.
